John, there are places around LA like this. You have to look for them. Lots of odd lots in hilly areas, old zoning areas, etc. Odd spaces everywhere. There are lots of hillsides in Eagle Rock, for example, that could use farming. Places in old LA. There are terraces with citrus trees and olive trees. These two might want to try some exotic citrus trees, especially considering one is a chef. The other terraces I know of are just home gardeners. Some people have expansive decks with tomatoes and other food for themselves. Walk around like Echo Park, Korea Town, any older parts and you will see passionfruit vines, gardens, citrus trees, etc. I also remember an older apartment complex with banana trees in the back strip and lots of pots along the stairways and walkways full of potted plants, some with herbs and edibles.
I’d like to take a moment to say that I live down the street from this farm and sometimes I could see it from my house and I have to say it’s one cool looking farm.
A lot of us are trying this considering it's all we have left. Self sufficiency is paramount. I hate the watering. Want so much to get the swales, harvesting and rills sorted.
4:41 Germination Station, what's your location? If I were their neighbor, I would ask how much would it cost me to shop weekly from their farm. That is a dream.
Awesome vid! I thought you had recently recorded this, I was about to say, wearing a beanie and jacket in late May in LA?? What a gem of a home they have.
Hi John, great having you in LA! Do you recommend any places in or near LA for compost or woodchips? Watched your Griffith park video discussing biosolids which left me wondering where to go. New to gardening and planted 8 trees this year. very excited and trying to keep them alive!
Hey, Mr.kohler can I buy some purple Malabar spinach seeds ? I remember you saying to get the purple variety in one of you videos and the one that has it is you.
John, I've been following you since you had 10k followers. Why are you being so silent about what's happening around the US? With your white privilege, all your followers need to hear how you are feeling right now and need to hear from your side. Alot of people watch your videos, with that kind platform you should spread a positive message that can make a difference in someone's life.
reco, im latino, and i am glad he isnt saying stuff about politics. blck and latinos and poor whites and homeless have been harssd by cops, agree. but with so much on blm amd police, humans need time to spend on nature. without making it political. its a good breather. what he could do is visit farmers of color. but we dont need to suck everyone into this crap. but these owners r pretty fortunate. i agree we dont always have this opp. but i grow what i can. i hate the division. anyways i respct u bro, and i get what u mean.

A virtual tour of these places would be nice using Google maps or other mapping apps.

You can often find those free or low cost on Craigslist. Make sure to ask to make sure there are no herbicides or harmful chemicals.
