    When you hear stuff walking around outside. Classic. Thanks for your insights on hot tents.

    I’ve only used my Megahorn III five times, because I can stay reasonably warm in my hammock with a 3-season underquilt and a Thermarest of some sort. But I like the hot-tent, and have a trip planned with a son-in-law in January. I use a steel (Winnerwell) stove, because though the extra weight requires a sled, its mass is such that it does stay warm for some time, even if the fire goes out. There is a special charm to being out in wintry conditions, yet warm in a hot-tent, isn’t it? Thank you for sharing your memory with us; I hope you will have many more. Stay safe; and enjoy the forest.

      Thanks for your perspective. There's definitely a special charm about camping in the snow. It's taken me awhile to dial in the right conditions for the hot tent, but I still really enjoy it. I usually don't have extravagant meals while backpacking, but when I have the hot tent I like to indulge in good food.

    Anything to prevent the Condensation from building up so bad other than venting like crazy?

      Yeah, it doesn't rain down at all, but if you rub against the side you'll know it. When you get the fire going, it does start to evaporate the condensation a little bit, but as long as there's snow on the ground and wet gear, you'll have condensation. The bathtub floors they sell help keep it down. If you're on bare ground- either rocks, sand, or dirt, you won't get any condensation, but you still have to vent a bit. I normally vent about a square foot of opening on the side and don't notice a cold draft at all. It still traps the heat really well, and as long as you keep it to 1-2 people with gear, brushing the sides of the tent doesn't happen often. Thanks for watching!

    What is a hot tent exactly

    • @RUTired
      @RUTired  2 роки тому

      It's a tent with a stove jack and no floor. The idea is basically to have a fire inside your tent without all the smoke. Thanks for watching!
