I used to be very messy when I lived with my parents, but I moved away to college and I changed almost overnight. I think it has to do with having ownership over my new home. Now I m very tidy, I absolutely hate clutter, and I LOVE to clean! In fact, my mom gets annoyed when she visits my apartment at school because I never kept my room at home so clean. Tidying up at night has been a really lovely way to wind down. I do the dishes first thing, because I hate doing dishes. Then I light some candles, put on some relaxing music and straighten out the living room, fold the throw blankets and straighen the pillows and the coffee table. Then I move to my room, pick up all my clothes and papers and books. Waking up in the morning to a perfectly clean home is the best feeling. Especially since it's fall now and the sunlight comes in through the windows and I can see all the orange and red and yellow trees :) Who knew cleaning could have such an impact on my life?
Key point: the less you own, the easier it is to keep track of and care for yourself and your things. Thank you, Madeleine! I love that you remind people these are videos and real life gets messy!
I really resonate with the 'later' mentality. I always see clutter and mess as a visual/physical representation of my procrastination. My paper and receipts pile reflects this and is something I seriously need to tackle! xx
I have always been naturally tidy haha! Having it messy irritates me, I need to have things tidy around me to relax and focus on other things. Hot tip: if it takes less than 1-2 minutes, just do it right away when you notice the mess! Like bringing your clothes to the wash, putting the plates in the dishwasher right away or making the bed 😋
I am an organised person in a messy person's body! I'm trying really hard to keep things tidy, and doing the one in one out system. Fingers crossed for sustained progress! Thanks for this video, makes me want to tidy more.
@@janinagabriel3973 Thanks, I will try that. I think my main problem is that my flat is too small for all of my stuff. If things don't have a place to live, they're always going to be untidy. I think I just need to keep gradually sorting stuff and getting rid of some. Or lots..
My Poppy always says 'Don't leave until tomorrow what you can do today". This pops up in my mind when I feel like leaving something for a not-good-enough reason :)
literally started THIS week with working towards minimalism!:) my house is always severely cluttered (unlivable-y so) related to my mental health issues. I am so hopeful and excited to do this and see how it helps me!i spent 8 hours yesterday cleaning and decluttering. your videos have been so helpful and make me excited instead of scared. thank you!!!
I was the messiest person ever up until I changed my room around and realised just how much stuff I had. I had 2 junk draws, the last thing I sorted out was my wardrobe, you would not believe the amount I threw away. I gave it all to charity and to some girls that my mum child minds. I’m still in the process of getting rid of clothes and just finished getting rid of makeup and accessories that I never wear. Thanks to you, I realised I did not need makeup or the biggest, craziest wardrobe ever. I don’t waste my money anymore. Xxxx
I love how you always say that this is a set up and that it is messy too in your life or home.. you have made me have a lovely lovely home and a tidy life
Girl everything you said has hit home! I love to shop, I leave little trails of messes and I have too much stuff. I'm trying to purge as much as I can, replace multi clothes I don't use with one special item but also get a handle on my shopping, and become more minimalist to be happy with myself instead of through things! Keep up the amazing videos xx
Your videos have helped me a lot! I’ve been trying to live more minimally and as a side benefit I noticed how much easier it is to keep things tidy. My bedroom has never been this consistently clean before!
I feel like I’m an organized person for the most part, but that junk drawer is the bane of my existence 🤦🏼♀️. Thanks for the tips! Also, I LOVED your Spain pictures 😘
Thank you for this!! You immediately inspired me to get up and get things done so I speed cleaned the apartment for almost 10 minutes while listening to your advices. 💕
I totally feel you on the ditching the later mentality. It feels soo liberating to act upon things in the present. Hope all is well with everyone watching this vid! 💜
I was a messy shop a holic and I started getting into sustainable living a few months ago and now minimalism! I’ve been purging a lot of my stuff and have been making some nice changes. My problem right now is my boyfriend that I live with. He’s a bit of a hoarder (no where near as bad as my ex but still pretty bad. He has more clothes than I ever did) and he’s been fighting me on getting rid of anything. He’s also really smart so he has projects going all over the house, he makes his own beer, distills his own whiskey, has a 3D printer, a welding set up, and is really into the hobby side of vaping. So these “stations” are set up all over my house and it’s making me stressed out
You should give him a dedicated spot that he can work in so that it isn't all over the place. If he wants to work on the next hobby, then he needs to put away the last hobby. Don't tell him what to declutter that will only make him backlash focus on you and eventually he will see the benefits.
I'm a very unorganized person. About a year ago, I started being interested in minimalism, but I never actually did something. A few weeks ago your Videos made me eventually tackle it! I still have a long way to go, as a working single mom it all takes longer, but I know one day I will be done. And it's about progress, not perfection, right?!
Loved these practical tips! My number one struggle is decluttering with kids! I have four vegan kiddos, ALL BOYS, and they love toys with lot of pieces like Lego, cars, and other building materials like magnet sets. So even though we only keep quality toys around the house, they add up!
When I was younger I was pretty much a perfectionist and super neat, then broke that because people got annoyed with me. Now, I have an organised mess :/ I know where things are even if it is untidy looking. Not ideal, so I do little things to get my old mindset back to a degree. Thank you for this video - am sure it is never too late :)
I loved this video - all of the tips sound really easy and obvious but sometimes you just need someone to tell you these things! Going to implement some of these tips this afternoon. One of my biggest issues is that I have tonnes I want to donate/put on ebay but it never happens and is now a big cardboard box in the living room! I'm really bad at this minimalism thing...
I was messy until I became a minimalist. I still have to deal with all the paper that comes into the house. Thinking of getting a scanner and going at the filing cabinet.
Hi Maddy, we enjoyed your video I've always considered myself an organized person but we do have a junk drawer. I also do straighten up the house before we go to bed.
You should watch clutterbug ^^ she categorizes people in four types and each does organization in a different way :) As you say Alex leaves things in piles but you don't like that, so maybe find a basket so that his piles are not visual clutter but still suitable to his mind ;) Anyway great advice in this video! Have a good day ^^
I can get really messy if I let myself be that person, but when I am that messy person then I dont feel like myself. I need to start a good a´habbit and clean my space in my apartment :)
My main struggle now, after dealing with mountains of clothes, is sentimental miscellaneous things. At the moment I put them in 3 medium sized boxes under my bed because they are things of value to me but I don’t use them. I’d really appreciate anyone’s input on how to deal with this better? (If there is a better way)
I was messy until I went to college and started living with roommates! Seeing other people's mess really made me reevaluate mine.

Very professional yet personal video, love it! xx
Ditching the later mentality is HUGE! 🙌🏽 Thank you for for the inspo Maddie 😊xx
Procrastinator: I'll ditch that mentality.
Tomorrow

Much love girlie 💚💚

I "just" found your channel! I'm only a couple of videos in, but I'm really loving the stuff you make. Keep up the good work!

I’m so messy! But I’m trying to get better and I’m loving it thanks to you and your videos :D I’m so excited for the future xxx
You’re such a beautiful and inspirational person 💕 your videos are great
I was messy until I became a minimalist. I still have to deal with all the paper that comes into the house. Thinking of getting a scanner and going at the filing cabinet.
There are scanner apps for mobile phones! I use camscanner and it really helps me :)
Hi Maddy, we enjoyed your video I've always considered myself an organized person but we do have a junk drawer. I also do straighten up the house before we go to bed.
Loving the background for this!
I really appreciate your videos Madeleine, Thank you!
I'm just about to do another bedroom purge, so this came at perfect timing!
Love your videos❤️. The areas that I struggle with is paperwork or junkmail clutter and the bathroom counters. 🙈
Time to get stuck in to some of those areas! You can do this! 💪🏻
So excited for a new video! You always inspire me
Awesome tips - another great video! Thanks Maddie 🙌🏻
I have a bad habit of procrastinating so this was definitely helpful.
I love your videos❤ they are so inspirational❤❤

Haha that sounds great in practice but if I have him a basket for his piles that basket would fill up, overflow and never get sorted 😂
@@MadeleineOlivia 😋 maybe have a schedule for dealing with his pile in the basket 😂like every two weeks he sits down and deals with it? 😇
One step at a time. Always good advice xx

Sunflowers!! So pretty 😊
Thanks, great video!! Just found your channel 😍xxxx
Great video, do you think you’ll do another clothing / accessories you have, one soon? Thank you 😁😁😁
Will you do a house tour?😊
Great video!! I’m an all or nothing person for sure... could you do a possible house tour? :)
You have a beautiful plant. I just found out someone stole my plants 😭 I put them outside for some sunlight and now they are gone.. I feel so sad
Omg, I feel so sad for you :(
Sorry to hear that 😥
