Graydon Buchleiter I don’t. Because in my opinion it compromises the principle. Not Doing it because it’s helps our planet and it’s beneficial financially, physiologically and mentally but because it’s hip and cool to do zero waste a certain way. Like carrying around a fashionable tote bag as a status symbol not because you don’t need to use a million plastic bags to bag your 5 groceries. Or buying the super expensive “hydro flask” (hip and trendy therma bottle made from California) not because using plastic is harmful and pointless but because it’s a status symbol to own that specific brand of water bottle. And lastly because trends don’t last, they come and go and it’s be nice to see a more gradual, intentional, widespread change in attitude and practices from the entire general public. But hey a trend is better than nothing I suppose.
piotr monn sometimes because they do it for the wrong reasons then end up doing it wrong; so the end result is subverted anyways. That was the point I’m trying to make. If you don’t know why you’re using a reusable bag, you end up buying more just for the high fashion which defeats the environmental purpose in the first place. If you don’t know why it’s important to have a reusable water bottle. You end up buying whatever’s trendy like the Californian brand hydro flask. And then discarding it moments later for another one. Or you shop thrift stores because the aesthetic is cool. But you still binge and trash these clothes excessively coz they’re practically free; which again, defeats the purpose. Or they understand plastic material is bad but they don’t recycle their steel, aluminum, metal, and glass containers properly and end up throwing it in the trash anyways and it all ends up in landfill. Those who don’t do it for the right reasons are less likely to understand why they even do what they do, and run the risk of just making things worse. In my opinion. Of course no matter the intentions I’m glad it’s being done either way, trendy or not, but people really can make it worse by doing it for the wrong reasons because they simply don’t understand why. Edit: although on the other hand, the trend can be a gateway for deposed exploration into the movement. It could go either way I guess. Although imo, the 1st thing I mentioned has a higher risk
Guys, stop the thought that living zero waste is expensive. No one wants you to buy lovely mason jars, just reuse jars you have from honey, jams, mayo etc!
I really like your approach of focusing on doing your best instead of putting down people who aren't doing the same thing as you. A lot of greater good movements like sustainability and animal rights lose traction bc of folks who bash people who don't know any better. It's better to say "I do xyz because I want the small things I do to be good for the world" instead of "you use plastic water bottles? You eat meat? You're disgusting"
I think a lot of videos about zero waste have this same approach. People who respond like you do often times feel guilty that they don’t do anything or feel like any video about changing your ways is an insult to them somehow.Every vegan, zero waste, environmentally conscious videos have a post exactly like this.
I was going to comment the same thing but you said it perfectly! I’m trying to live more sustainably, but I’m so nervous about getting involved with new people because I’ve had some really bad experiences. It’s so important to remember that every little bit helps.
I really feel like the government should implement this zero waste lifestyle idea so much more so we can save the world together and make zero waste life so much more accessible ❤️🤠
kbisthebest mychannelisfunny yes but in my country the older generation is stubborn as hell and never stops using plastic I am just in awe EVERYTIME :(
YES! yes to ecosia and yes to spreading awareness about reducing waste!!! 'zero waste' is just this ultimate goal that isn't really attainable in todays consumerist society .without removing yourself from it, so making small changes and just reducing the use of single use items like plastic bags can shift the way we think about waste and make it a general discussion instead of a tiny youtube 'zero waste' niche.
Jade Evens yes! It’s not easy to go completely zero waste, but ANY effort towards reducing waste helps a ton if we all work together at it! I’m a fan of “go slow and you will go far” - I still create waste but I’m learning to be more mindful of it!
umm a lot of people can't go zero waste due to health issues and needing life saving medicine that comes in plastic. Such as diabetes supplies, asthma medication for nebulizers and if you have to use a vaporizer you have to buy distilled water so you don't get that hard water dust if you live in an area where you have hard water.
unicorn I was thinking about this but actually my pharmacy reused my bottle after I spoke to them about it. Also the asthma inhalers have metal tanks that can be interchanged. And lastly, a lot of distilled water bottles can be refilled. So we can reuse plastic as well. It's all up to the agencies, facilities and places around us to support people who are trying to use less waste :)
That's cool that the pharmacy reused the medicine bottle. Asthma medicine for nebulizer's come in plastic vials that the measured dosage is stored in until use after putting the liquid medicine in the plastic vial is tossed not everyone can use inhalers. And hospitals and urgent care can't re use the tubing or the plastic mouth piece due to sanitary reasons it's so sad that many life saving things are made from plastic that can't be recycled. :( As for Distilled water bottles those can be recycled if your area recycles that type of plastic the number that's printed on the bottom. I hope you have a merry holiday season and a happy new year :)
I'm a teen and trying to be as zero waste and environmentally friendly as I can! I just ordered my first set of bamboo utensils including chopsticks, a straw, and a baggie to hold it all! Thanks for the video, very helpful, I'll continue trying to do the most I can at this time in my life
as a 60-year old beginner, this was fab! Your lack of judgementalism (that sure-fire way of turning would-be converts into adversaries) made me subscribe to yr channel. Well done... and folks - it's never too late!
Some tips from an ex Whole Foods employee (me haha): Please use the shopping carts or baskets made available to you and not your reusable bag to carry unpaid for goods while shopping. Using reusable produce bags is totally cool but full-sized shopping bags is how a lot of people shop lift so it's best to avoid it while shopping and save them for when you have paid for your items. When you use reusable produce bags and jars for items it will save you a lot of time if you record the tare of each item. You can go to the front the first time us use a reusable item and get the tare number from a cashier and label it. That will save you and the cashier so much time when it comes to future trips!
I find that comment a little silly. I worked in retail myself for a full year and use reusable bags when shopping. Not only is it (to some extent) partly our job as a cashier to spot shoplifters at the register but it is above all security's job to lookout for potential shoplifters and check them out on the cameras if possible. We might not catch shoplifters after their first steals but we usually do the next times as we saw them do it before on camera after the fact. Ultimately, if a shoplifter is never caught, we will most likely never even notice it as it will not drastically impact the store's revenue. And to be honest, A a huge majority of shoplifters I've encountered aren't the eco friendly type and do not even use eco friendly bags: they try hiding stuff in their bagpacks, pockets or even in the store's trolly.
@@format_jpeg its also an easy way to make sure that i dont buy too much and need a plastic bag! i mean im not trying to steal but rather make sure i dont buy too much that wont fit in my bag
And if you have books you don't want, have a book sale or give them away to your friends, family and neighbourd. Second hand stores also take in things if you just go to them
I wanted to add: Cloth pads or period panties are also great swaps for traditional pads & tampons!! I mentioned the menstrual cup because I prefer that way but I understand it's not for everybody :) Here's a video where I talked about period products everyone should know → bit.ly/2yTIIOi Here are more playlists you might enjoy: → Minimalism Playlist | bit.ly/1QH2U9s → Ideas & Inspiration Playlist | bit.ly/2sA4rbN Thanks everyone!!
I'm so glad you mentioned this in the comments! I had tried menstrual cups, but I just couldn't do it. I also had NO idea about tooth brushes never degrading. I feel horrible about all of my toothbrushes over the year. Thanks for a great video, I'm so glad I found this!
I love how you are not judgmental at all. I have been kind of scared to get into this community, being a beginner and only becoming aware recently, since many people from this community can be really judgmental and things are very black and white for many. So thank you
As far as books go, using your local library is great! Not only are you supporting your library, but Libraries always have tons of copies of books and they want people to check them out!
It's_Ty aren't the usual time periods one to two months. Do you need longer? But yeah, most of the time you can prolong the time online so you'll have more time to read.
i wish this was the case but my library has a horrible selection. not books that id wanna read lol. also doesnt help that i prefer my books in english and majority of the books arent in english since its not the first language in my country
This is exactly what I do. I live at my local libraries (one near my home, one near my work). Think of how much $$ you save by getting stuff from the library (which you have to return...less clutter).
This is what I do too! I love the feel of a paper book in my hand for relaxing, and I've always been a fan of my local library - but I go paperless for my textbooks whenever possible. My notes become much easier to manage and I can’t bring myself to mark a physical book, so I can digitally highlight important passages. It's usually way cheaper too.
Russian, French, Portuguese, Turkish, Ukranian, Chinese, and Finnish subtitles are available! Click "CC" and check the video settings 💕 Thank you to the contributors listed in the description!
A bunch of places are switching from plastic straws, which is great, but they are replacing them with paper straws which is degradable but also speeds up deforestation which is another massive problem, so I think while the change is a step forward it’s also a step back, and as she said there are other straw options
Definitely. I met this guy in Seattle last month who’s making glass straws. I bought one and I use it quite a lot. It also has a lifetime guarantee which is always nice.
honestly I dont get the straw problem. they're not necessary at all for most of the population except disabled people, who can just buy a reutilizable straw.

maybe because of the beewax. Like I read in one of my science papers (it is on researchgate and on a few other places) that the beewax is a problem. It is not normal waste but chemical waste and they don't know what to do with them. We even talked about it in our chemistry classes since we all are engineers/scientists. Kinda complicated to explain my school xD
@@nomoredream7689 I totally was concerned about that. Thanks- so many better alternatives- just use glass containers/silicone lids; no ned to be perfect but this has had such a huge reach we need to examine even the seemingly better choices- critical to do so.
@@Ambrosha385 Yeah, I've been concerned about beeswax as well, so I just put my leftover food in other containers I have lying around. No need to buy beeswax when you have all these old pasta/honey/coconut oil glass jars chilling in the pantry hah.
I really struggle to enjoy ebooks, however I've been buying second hand books instead of new ones, which is not only great in terms of reusing, but is so much cheaper than buying from the bookstore!
You can also use reusable pads! They aren't icky like I thought they would be, and they're actually cleaner and more comfortable than disposable ones in my opinion.
I know this is a year later, but I use Tree Hugger Cloth Pads. It’s a family owned business in Canada (the mom started it in her home because she was allergic/sensitive to something in disposable pads I believe) and her husband joined her when it started growing and they’re fantastic. They have multiple materials (cotton, bamboo, and minky) and sizes and colors to choose from, and they plant a tree with every single pad they sell. They also sell more natural laundry stuff too. I highly recommend!! Much better to support a small business rather than an amazon company I don’t know about, in my opinion:)
I loved this! I've just recently been getting into zero waste, so all your tips were super helpful! And I'm excited to start using Ecosia, thanks so much for sharing
I’m 13 and I finally convinced my mom to get me 6 metal straws. It’s all I can do right now, since my mom is annoying and thinks the earth is “gOnnA Be fInE”
At least you are aware or our environment and the fact that Earth is in danger. I'm very sad to see adults avoiding this issue, but they grew up like that and they were taught to do so by society...which is sad... But at least we now have a new promising generation that will hopefully realize that Earth is the only planet we have 🙏
Right? But I’ll buy my favorites. Cause books are literally one of the most sustainable things ever, they can stay in a household over multiple generations, almost as long as it takes an actual tree to grow, yet are so easy to recycle.
thank you for this video. It wasnt precisely what it was aimed for, but I'm quite depressed and I mostly don't get to clean my room. I finally picked up all the trash that's just been laying around for months and threw it out (and sorted them all in the right bins of course) it's so silly but this was really motivational, thank you
Marie Verlinden I’m right there with you. Clutter makes me crazy. There is something soothing about seeing a room after you purged, neatened up, and cleaned (much easier when there’s nothing on the flat surfaces). Marie, look into Victoria Moran. Her books are wonderful.

Lavendaire Hey 👋😊 Personal question, I bought the menstrual cup and I've been struggling to put in on lol Even though it comes with steps what to do...just idk if I'm doing it right
Lavendaire loved your positivity and love for nature. Keep doing this service of spreading this awareness. Mother earth and nature will bless you.👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I love all the tips, except the book one, because as a book lover, books aren't waste at all. If I buy a book, it will be cherished for decades so I don't really count that as a waste. I understand if you say this about magazines tho
I have ebooks, but I still love real books to hold. Most of my books I own are second handed. If I buy a magazine it as a craft. Yeah I love my books lol
Coffee cups are another one! They can’t be recycled so they go into waste after one use. I love using my glass keepcup instead 😊 thanks aileen for spreading the eco message!
Something I’ve noticed people don’t seem to think of: If you’re flying somewhere, you can get an empty water bottle through the security check and fill it up in a water fountain afterwards. Saves money and plastic.
That would only work if your water bottle has a filtre built in. I would never drink water from a random sink, and water fountains are (unfortunately) quite hard to find nowadays
Emma Link I agree! I added it to my computer and I will soon to my phone, and I find it incredible how just by searching for a couple of things, your making a good impact on the Earth !! 🌏

I just stumble on your channel and love your ideas. I try my part in going zero waste and will definately check out the search engine you recommend. I do have a question about the bees wax wrappers. According to my knowlege it take the bees 7 times the amount of nectar to make one kilogram of wax to one kilogram of honey. It just seems unfair to the hard working bees that's already in a struggle for survival. Why nog rather go for glass containers?
In regards to bringing your own jar, be careful: in the grocery store i worked at, we had predetermined tare weights built into the software of the cash register. MEANING, the cashier may not be able to accommodate for your heavy jar because its weight is not in the system. So, you may be overcharged for product. This is especially costly when picking up nuts and spices.
I really enjoyed your tips!! Another tip is to buy secondhand products such as used cars, used clothes, etc. Buying new clothes and buying into fast fashion creates so much waste especially when trends go out of style so quickly. so buying things that have already been used (of course this doesn’t apply to every thing) is another tip that is great for the environment!
"The best thing you can do is just be a living example of what you want to see in the world, and let your actions speak louder than your words. It all begins with awareness and let this awareness seep into your actions and then others will see what you're doing and then they'll be inspired to follow along." 6:26 I hope I can always remind myself these words.
Great advice! I keep putting off learning to reduce cause the idea of "zero waste" sounds so daunting. I realize that any little changes I can make right now matter!
I really want to create less waste in my everyday life but I am only young (14) also I live in a place where all the supermarkets sell produce only in plastic. do you have any advice. also I subbed
there are a lot of ways to reduce your waste outside of your food consumption. Start with making your own products like tooth paste and deodorant. Do what you can for now (:
making your products is much cheaper than buying premade. This will not only reduce your waste, but also save you money. I have to assume your are already purchasing this like DO and toothpaste. Instead, make your own out of regular household items.
Since you're still young and likely living at home with your parents, try and take them on this journey with you. Get your family involved in being aware of the waste they create, and together you can all work on making less of it. Maybe your family can start recycling or con posting as a household, or you can remind your parents to bring in the reusable bags every time they go grocery shopping. You can also request certain sustainable items as gifts for your birthday or whenever, or instead of other things. Ask for a sustainable toothbrush next time yours needs replacing, ask for a menstrual cup or a reusable water bottle or a kindle for your birthday. Plus all the little things you can do. Bring bring a metal fork or spoon from home to eat at school instead of using the plastic stuff, refuse plastic straws whenever you eat out, try to avoid things that are single-use or individually packaged. A little bit goes a long way. Just be conscious and do your best, and maybe your family will join you :)
When i was your age i started going out to eat a lot with friends at fast food places, so if you start doing that maybe bring your own reusable cup/utensils. When you go shopping bring a purse/bag that will fit what you bought in it (if you're just buying something for yourself). Also when i was younger I got my parents to stop buying water bottles for a while (they started to again but I can't stop them, they're my parents)
I suggest a 6th R (not sure where on that list it should go)...RESIST! Contact your city/county/state representatives and tell them you support initiatives to reduce single use plastics and biodegradable alternatives. You can also talk to your local grocery stores about offering less/no plastic in their packaging.
I LOVE how you stress that you don’t always need a swap (just drink without a straw), use up what you have begore buying new (plastic drinkbottle) and to take it one step at a time. Great video!
For books, i personally love the feeling of traditional books and with e-books I can't relax to the same level, so what I do is go to a local library and just read there, you really don't have to buy the books or you can just rent them for a period of time and when they are no longer famous (in some places, not my case though) they normally donate them to charity or children.
I started using Ecosia I think about 6 months now, and it’s really great! It’s just so, productive, convenient and you just know that you are doing something for the environment AND live a normal life. 100% would recommend x
i love your positive message about easing into reducing your waste and creating a non-judgmental community. so often people think it has to be all or nothing and demean others because of that. 💙
I really love zero waste videos bc it inspires me to use less and less trash everyday when I become an adult and move out I want to live a zero waste lifestyle #saveourplanet Edit - Omg she hearted my comment!!!! Thank you so much 😊
Miriam Campos I wish I could. The nearest library is pretty far from where I live (in the middle of nowhere 🙃). And I've always loved owning books and just always being able to have them there. I get them from a store that's also far away, but I don't have to return them.
My school library/public library never has books I like and I’m too young to take a book out and my school doesn’t allow kindles or reading on your phone so it’s hard for me that way
Thank you Lavendaire. I came across this video 2 years back and have been using Ecosia since then. Now I have planted around 50 trees. Thank you for enlightening me.
this couldn't have come at a better time! i've been thinking a lot about this especially the whole pads thing. i have been looking into diva cups but i just reallt don't feel comfortable using those things, but i recently found like reusable pads that you can just wash. i know it sounds a bit grim but i guess it's better than contributing to all that waste. 😊
I haven't tried these myself yet (I really want to) but I have seen a lot of videos on them! They have different types for different flows but I say try out what you can get and see how it goes!
I've tried most of the original series! I don't feel comfortable using the heavy ones on their own for my heaviest days, but they're wonderful on light days and for preventing leaks in general. They are absolutely worth a shot, even if you end up needing to use them with cups/tampons etc.
Thank you for introducing us to Ecosia and sharing these amazing tips❤ I'm always up for sustainable practices that help the environment! Although, I'm still uneasy and those menstrual cups 😨😥
Siobhan Smith I used to use menstrual cups and I loved it but felt nervous every time I changed it, so I switched to thinx period panties that Aileen mentioned in her period products video. Very easy, stress free, and surprisingly comfortable! I have three and hand wash and rotate every morning and night...
jarix3 See, that nervousness will overcome me just the same. But the thinx panties; I'll consider giving those a go now that you've mentioned them. I appreciate your reply. Thank you 😊
This was such a wonderful, thoughtful and relatable video! Thank you for using your huge platform to talk about something that is so so important!! Also thank you for referencing my channel in your info, so kind of you :) xx Immy
Sustainably Vegan ! I watch your videos almost every day. Your channel is what caused me to start transitioning to a more zero waste lifestyle. I've already made so many changes. Always nice to see my favorite youtubers comment on other videos that pop in my feed! 😙
I loved this video! I really try my best to inform my family and friends on zero waste, because it's such a small but easy way to help our environment! Thanks for spreading the word!! ❤️
I have been vegan for about year (mainly for the animals but also because of the environment), but it doesn't feel like enough. I know plastic is bad but my mind just ignores how bad it truly is, same as it was with animal agriculture before I went plant based. Now I want to start and reduce my plastic waste as well. This was very helpful, so thank you :) 💕
I have been environment concious all my life because my parents are too. I would like to add some points 1. while switching to sustainable products we often end up buying such products which often come in low grade plastic wraps. So please make sure that the packaging is eco-friendly too. 2. Do not throw away your old plastic things- only switch when you have to. If you already have them keep using them until they are worn out. Simply throwing them away is also creating plastic waste 3. We usually end up buying sustainable products online- which takes a lot of packaging and transportation. Instead shop at local market or maybe make some out of the home items we already have. Or opt for dedicated websites which also take care that the packaging is eco-friendly too. It might be a little expensive than it normally would be but spending a few bucks shouldn't matter if the thought is in the right direction. 4. Not all products sold on amazon or such websites are eco-friendly as they claim. Yes the product might be eco-friendly but the process of making them might not be. And the sellers dupe people into thinking it's eco friendly because people will buy it. 5. One option for cereals/grains if you do not want to carry bulky glass jars is making small cloth pouches out of old clothes at home. These are also light weight and will also save you from the hassle of weighing the jars. Thank you. I hope someone finds it to be useful. :)
@@lobarshovkatova8578 One simple solution would be to order reusable cotton bags! You can order them on Amazon I believe. My family uses them and there very convenient - you can just put them in your bigger bag that you also bring to the store ❤️ I hope I helped
Successfully downloaded Ecosia. I have replaced safari in the most important bar on my phone with Ecosia and I will suggest to my friends.

Number 10 is a huge mistake, that kind of e-readers are more polluting than books because of the components, the COLTAN, the bateries... Is much better use paper books because paper is the easiest recycling material and one of the most recycled in the world 😄
a lot of people already have phones/iPads though, so it would make sense to use what they have to cut back on books being printed but it is true that they cause more pollution just when people have them already! :)
However, if you count how many books you can read in one of those devices throughout its life, I bet it is worth it. Not everyone has a good library close by and recycling also consumes resources.
@@robertagomesrp actually ebooks vs books has ben researcher about, "Books from an environmental perspective" by ,Åsa Moberg, Clara Borggren & Göran Finnveden, and whilst ebooks can be less consuming, it is only if you use it often, have it in a low setting and it is produced with enviroment-friendly components. Wht is the biggest fault in printed books were actually transportation of the books, so if you walk instead to drive to the library it is still a valid option:)

There are a bunch of low-waste period alternatives: menstrual cups, menstrual underwear, reusable menstrual pads, biodegradable tampons (sans plastic applicator). There's something for everyone!
This inspired me to purchase my first metal straws! 🥺 I’m only 12 but I’m doing the best that I can to allow animals and people of the future generations to live well. 💗
Yeah this was amazing! I have started to watch all your old videos too. All i do is making myself a cup of green tea and relax while watching your videos. ♡♡♡♡ cause they're so helpful, beatiful, amazing and so relaxing!
its easy to say all this stuff like "get jars, get bags, wooden toothbrushes, technology over books" but they are all so much more expensive! The economically viable one is the cheapest to make, and worst for the environment, so this all really isnt our fault. Companies and govements should be innovating new ideas to make essintial products more viaable, but great for the enviroment too.
Ali Bunny Companies won’t change until we do, if they see we keep purchasing from them they will just continue selling, if we stope, they will see a decrease in sales and try doing things that the consumers want.
initially when you get started, maybe. but you end up saving a bunch of money in the long run! as long as you’re willing to give these companies your money just because it’s “cheaper”, they won’t change because they have no reason to. it’s like buying any good quality item: it may be a bit more up front but it’ll last so much longer and save you more money in the long run, since you aren’t wasting your money on cheap, disposable things CONSTANTLY. save money and the environment ☺️
By the time you spend let’s say five bucks a month on straws, one or two metal ones can last forever! So it really is cheaper to go zero waste. And companies won’t stop until people stop buying them.
Watching this with my sister, when we got to the pad and tampon section she said “just use a diva cup!”. I am not a woman and I know that a diva cup is not for everyone, but it is definitely an alternative to consider!
Toto Jaede I know they can be intimidating or difficult to use for a lot of people, so another good option is washable cotton sanitary pads. Places like Etsy sell them and they come in all sizes and colours.
lia la Fun fact, sometimes people recycle ♻️ things incorrectly! Some states only recycle some plastics ( you can see a number on the product that will tell you). Also, some yogurt 🍦 cups are recyclable but it’s contaminated because some people didn’t wash the product out. And the #1 reason why waste ends up in the ocean 🌊 is Littering! So if you see waste(even if it wasn’t yours) try and put in the correct area!
@@ciarahbrookes9521 you dont need to put it there, it will end up there, according strong nature, wind, rain etc it end up in ocean anyway, or its just washed from the beach to hte seas...
Hi. I'm an English teacher in South Korea. I love your video about reducing trash, so can I share it with my students? If you don't mind, I'd like to use it in my class. They will learn greatly from you video. Thanks.
As someone who has suffered the burden of environmental waste and house gutting due to Hurricane Harvey, I’ve decided to be more environmentally aware of my community (no one else believes in biodegradable products and recycling around here) because the amount of trash and debris in the ditches and fields have really bummed me out. The ditches have grown algae and all kinds of bacteria and the city has absolutely no care for the well being of not only its tax payers but also its newcomers. I’ve decided to take it into my own hands and do shit myself. This was a great video, I enjoyed it.
Just a tiny tip regarding toothbrushes; for those who don't want to buy the bamboo ones or can't get them anywhere, Curaprox accepts used toothbrushes of their brand so basically they recycle what you buy from them!
Also get yourself a good travel mug for takeaway coffee etc. make sure you look for one locally so you don't have to add to the packaging with shipping and everything
Altoid Bazingá (I know this was posted a while ago but...) as someone who actually works at Panera, I know that many coffee places/restaurants will lower the cost for people who bring in their own travel mug. It’s actually pretty common, and a lot of places (like Starbucks) actually sell those mugs to invite people to do so.
when you order your coffee you just say "can you put it in this please?" and hand them your mug and they'll do it most of the time. the brand KeepCups makes ones that are the standard coffee sizes and fit under most professional coffee machines
Altoid Bazingá whereabouts in Europe? It's a super popular idea in the UK, and on lots of university campuses you get a discount on every drink you put in your own cup
Altoid Bazingá I live in germany and i know many places do this however it's not too common, unless you're a student. maybe just ask at favorite cafes. Technically it's actually better for them as well because they don't have to pay for paper cups.

But hey a trend is better than nothing I suppose.
Finally a decent trend...
It just keeps getting trendier and trendier, but being trendy isn’t always a good thing. Trends die off
@@leilanidru7506 it really doesnt matter for what reason people are doing it, it's the end result that counts
piotr monn sometimes because they do it for the wrong reasons then end up doing it wrong; so the end result is subverted anyways.
Denisa Rossmüllerová exactly 👌🏼
AMEN!
yes
Yessss
Well said
I really like your approach of focusing on doing your best instead of putting down people who aren't doing the same thing as you. A lot of greater good movements like sustainability and animal rights lose traction bc of folks who bash people who don't know any better. It's better to say "I do xyz because I want the small things I do to be good for the world" instead of "you use plastic water bottles? You eat meat? You're disgusting"
YES YES YES. Start with yourself before judging others!
agree! I'm not zero waste but I do know I'd always try my best to reduce it :D
Alex
I really feel like the government should implement this zero waste lifestyle idea so much more so we can save the world together and make zero waste life so much more accessible ❤️🤠
They should teach them at school
kbisthebest mychannelisfunny yes but in my country the older generation is stubborn as hell and never stops using plastic I am just in awe EVERYTIME :(
Shandy Leng I think it’s because they are not familiar and unaware what are the things doing to our planet.
In Australia, they have banned plastic bags at all grocery stores so you have to pay to get a reusable bag
I like your profile picture of the “Mania” album cover :)
YES! yes to ecosia and yes to spreading awareness about reducing waste!!!
Yaaa !! Absolutely crrct 💚🍃
umm a lot of people can't go zero waste due to health issues and needing life saving medicine that comes in plastic.
Anna Carey that's great to hear it's never to late to go vegan . I hope you are 💖
Ur not 60 and on UA-cam.
That’s why you wash them before eating/cooking them :)
I always put my items in my reusable bags in the store.
@@format_jpeg its also an easy way to make sure that i dont buy too much and need a plastic bag! i mean im not trying to steal but rather make sure i dont buy too much that wont fit in my bag
Just let me steal bro
The idea behind Ecosia is gold thank you for recommending it 💛
Mary Ven Cossid 💛💛
If you really want paper books, the public library is perfect because every book is technically being reused over and over again.
Or buy second hand, wither from charity shops or online
Elsa Abraham I have a cafe near me and they take books so if you have a book you don't want they willre use it and other people can read your books
And if you have books you don't want, have a book sale or give them away to your friends, family and neighbourd. Second hand stores also take in things if you just go to them
I love using books from the library and also getting books from goodwill 😆
Bookcrossing works also
I wanted to add: Cloth pads or period panties are also great swaps for traditional pads & tampons!! I mentioned the menstrual cup because I prefer that way but I understand it's not for everybody :) Here's a video where I talked about period products everyone should know → bit.ly/2yTIIOi
Here are more playlists you might enjoy:

Thanks everyone!!
Lavendaire there are also fabric pads. I use them myself and they work really good.
I switched to an IUD, I love it and highly recommend :)
Luna pads is an awesome company to get the reusable pads, period underwear and a menstrual cup. Especially in Canada 🍁
Try reusable bamboo straws for even less of a carbon footprint 😁
Catherine Saavedra I would but I'm a slow reader so I have to take my time when reading a book. I get super paranoid about due dates too
You could always delay the due date online! Most public libraries offer this service :)
If you prefer reading paper books you could go to a library and only buy the books you really really like! (This is what works for me.)
I do the same and then donate the books I don’t need or give them as a gift
Yes and try to buy used books! They have more character anyway.
This is exactly what I do. I live at my local libraries (one near my home, one near my work). Think of how much $$ you save by getting stuff from the library (which you have to return...less clutter).
@@SkySpiral8 .

It also has a lifetime guarantee which is always nice.
are bamboo straws better? i heard that they grow super fast. maybe a bamboo farm would be beneficial :)
Bamboo or hemp paper would be good solutions.
I have seen pasta straws!
honestly I dont get the straw problem. they're not necessary at all for most of the population except disabled people, who can just buy a reutilizable straw.
THIS VIDEO DESERVES TO BE SEEN BY EVERYONE
Totally agree.

Lavendaire but how can I prove that the trees are really planted?
Where'd you get that eating utensils kit?? I wanna buy one!
I’m currently practising zero waste habits and Glad to find this video 😊👍🏼
Im getting through making ecosia the standard search engine in my school :D
AMAZING!!!!!
It gives viruses 🦠
Wow that's awesome~ ^^
That's awesome!!! Did it go through??
Nice!
Why would anyone dislike this? Like, “What? BEING KIND TO THE PLANET? EEww!!” Haha.
maybe because of the beewax.
😂😂😂😂
@@Ambrosha385 Yeah, I've been concerned about beeswax as well, so I just put my leftover food in other containers I have lying around. No need to buy beeswax when you have all these old pasta/honey/coconut oil glass jars chilling in the pantry hah.
@BitterVoid i'm sorry but i was explaining the beewax part so what does that have to do with change?
I really struggle to enjoy ebooks, however I've been buying second hand books instead of new ones, which is not only great in terms of reusing, but is so much cheaper than buying from the bookstore!
Kat Zaremba plus your book will give you many years of pleasure, can be passed on, and eventually can be recycled. Books are not a major issue.
How about library xd
This is the first time I have EVER supported a sponsorship. I have now made the app as my default search engien. THANK YOU ❤
I am trying to be more zero waste, i am 12 and already boight my first steel straws!
That is so awesome. Keep it up.
yay!! i hope you will continue to live a waste free life. it's never too young to start
i wish when i was your age i knew about this so go you!
Keep going babe!! You're doing amazing, thank you for helping our generation look towards an exciting and healthy future. 💕
you shouldn’t use metal straws because they can kill you. ( look it up) i personally use silicon straws from amazon. :)
You can also use reusable pads! They aren't icky like I thought they would be, and they're actually cleaner and more comfortable than disposable ones in my opinion.
Kyra The Tree Pixie I’ve seen a ton of brands doing that! Which ones do you recommend??
No specific brand. Honestly I just bought a random set off of amazon and they're fine.
Kyra The Tree Pixie how do you wash them?
Jordan Clark there’s nothing I love more than seeing one of my favorite youtubers comment on another one of my favorite youtubers’ video 😆
Natalie Croxton honestly, same! hiii Jordan! 💖

Thank you Jordan! 😊💕
I've been noticing the amount of trash I've been producing recently and I'm ashamed to say it's a ton. This helps so much, thank you!
Wow! I really didn't know that toothbrushes NEVER break down! Thank you for that info. I think when I can I will get a bamboo toothbrush.
I’m 13 and I finally convinced my mom to get me 6 metal straws. It’s all I can do right now, since my mom is annoying and thinks the earth is “gOnnA Be fInE”
At least you're aware of the environment and what's going on and also doing something to help our earth. Even if it's small changes. 😊
At least you are aware or our environment and the fact that Earth is in danger. I'm very sad to see adults avoiding this issue, but they grew up like that and they were taught to do so by society...which is sad... But at least we now have a new promising generation that will hopefully realize that Earth is the only planet we have 🙏
if ur mom let you to buy that, ur parents are far better than mine, they'd taunt me very bad even if i try to tell them
My mother is the same
Athalie the Witch As someone born in 2001, I was never taught environmentalism at school. I’m trying to figure it out by myself right now
I think utilizing your local library is a great way to get the wonderful book experience without having extra waste as that falls under "reuse" :D
Libraries are AWESOME!
I agree! I love using the library!
Yessss I practically live at the library
Right? But I’ll buy my favorites. Cause books are literally one of the most sustainable things ever, they can stay in a household over multiple generations, almost as long as it takes an actual tree to grow, yet are so easy to recycle.
"be a living example of what you want to see in the world" well said
thank you for this video. It wasnt precisely what it was aimed for, but I'm quite depressed and I mostly don't get to clean my room. I finally picked up all the trash that's just been laying around for months and threw it out (and sorted them all in the right bins of course)
it's so silly but this was really motivational, thank you
Marie Verlinden I’m right there with you. Clutter makes me crazy. There is something soothing about seeing a room after you purged, neatened up, and cleaned (much easier when there’s nothing on the flat surfaces).
Marie, look into Victoria Moran. Her books are wonderful.

Lavendaire loved your positivity and love for nature. Keep doing this service of spreading this awareness. Mother earth and nature will bless you.👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Emily Midnight buy it from eBay
I love all the tips, except the book one, because as a book lover, books aren't waste at all. If I buy a book, it will be cherished for decades so I don't really count that as a waste. I understand if you say this about magazines tho
Crazy Kimby Magazines are important too. It can be used for school projects and journal making.
ofc books arent a waste but books are made of paper. which comes from trees. so basically using ebooks can stop deforestation
Muntaha Rahman you can also buy second-hand or use your local library
I have ebooks, but I still love real books to hold. Most of my books I own are second handed. If I buy a magazine it as a craft. Yeah I love my books lol
Moon Luna the idea is more about e-books to save on paper waste
kinda wanna start reducing my waste but holy hell school gives us SO MANH PAPERS

Charlotte Peacock mine is too!
Why don’t they at least print double sided?
Yes!

Coffee cups are another one! They can’t be recycled so they go into waste after one use. I love using my glass keepcup instead 😊 thanks aileen for spreading the eco message!
emfazz96 ooh that’s a good one! Thanks for sharing!
You can get compostable ones now called vegware. This is in the UK but not all places use them unfortunately
emfazz96 👍very nice idea❗thanks fr sharing💜
u mean coffee cups that are made of glass? they are not bio degradable? I didn't know that
Yes I love my keep cup!!
Something I’ve noticed people don’t seem to think of: If you’re flying somewhere, you can get an empty water bottle through the security check and fill it up in a water fountain afterwards. Saves money and plastic.
Great idea. Thanks so much.
That would only work if your water bottle has a filtre built in. I would never drink water from a random sink, and water fountains are (unfortunately) quite hard to find nowadays
It only 'saves' plastic IF you bring your own little bottle.
Ecosia is amazing !!! I wished more people would know about it
Emma Link I agree!

Glass jars add extra weight. Look around on shopping site for reusable food safe bags.
C J reusable bags are still heavier than plastics ones :/
@@BeBeautifulAndHappy not if you find the right bag
Alyssa Buy string or mesh bags! They won’t add to weight and are reusable
Maybe you can use a plastic peanut butter jar?
I really enjoyed your tips!! Another tip is to buy secondhand products such as used cars, used clothes, etc. Buying new clothes and buying into fast fashion creates so much waste especially when trends go out of style so quickly. so buying things that have already been used (of course this doesn’t apply to every thing) is another tip that is great for the environment!
Lizette that’s a good tip!!
Lizette but be careful to secondhanded clothes. i mean.. it is from other ppl. soo maybe it contains some disease
"The best thing you can do is just be a living example of what you want to see in the world, and let your actions speak louder than your words.
It all begins with awareness and let this awareness seep into your actions and then others will see what you're doing and then they'll be inspired to follow along." 6:26
I hope I can always remind myself these words.
Shelbizleee thanks but I don't really have any money but maybe I could start by recycling I dunno
making your products is much cheaper than buying premade.
Also when i was younger I got my parents to stop buying water bottles for a while (they started to again but I can't stop them, they're my parents)
why am i watching this when I myself is trash
Jelly López dont think like that of your self
Same thou.

Jana S Oh that was unkind :(
At least she trying. ✌️
I love how you wrap the vegetables like the “traditional” candy 🍭 😊
I love how you share this content even though you are also not completely zero-waste!!!
I love how welcoming and non-judgemental you are.
Loving the ecosia search engine. Great content thanks.
So strange that people bag their bananas

I started using Ecosia I think about 6 months now, and it’s really great! It’s just so, productive, convenient and you just know that you are doing something for the environment AND live a normal life.
100% would recommend x
i love your positive message about easing into reducing your waste and creating a non-judgmental community. so often people think it has to be all or nothing and demean others because of that. 💙
For paper books, if you can't stand the digital ones, borrow them (lend them to your friends too) or buy second-hand books.
Using the library is a great option for borrowing both physical and digital books!
That’s a good idea too!
Thriftbooks is a great place to get secondhand books online!
pikachuiswatchingyou i definitely love 2nd hand book shopping. I know that i won't be able to part with my favs.

Miriam Campos ugh but there’s something about buying books and owning books 😩good idea though. we should all have a library card!
Miriam Campos I wish I could. The nearest library is pretty far from where I live (in the middle of nowhere 🙃). And I've always loved owning books and just always being able to have them there. I get them from a store that's also far away, but I don't have to return them.
Miriam Campos
I get my books from the library. It's not a waste so it's a win win
My school library/public library never has books I like and I’m too young to take a book out and my school doesn’t allow kindles or reading on your phone so it’s hard for me that way
Nope, some people like owning a new or old book.
Library's don't also have the book you want
I love this! Definitely going to start making some changes to reduce the amount of waste I’m contributing 💛
Check out THINX underwear, too!!
Life of Millie oh my gosh thank you!! i will definitely purchase! is this good for heavy flow too or would i need the reusable pads just in case?
I haven't tried these myself yet (I really want to) but I have seen a lot of videos on them! They have different types for different flows but I say try out what you can get and see how it goes!
I've tried most of the original series! I don't feel comfortable using the heavy ones on their own for my heaviest days, but they're wonderful on light days and for preventing leaks in general. They are absolutely worth a shot, even if you end up needing to use them with cups/tampons etc.
Oh yeah I’ve tried thinx but it wasn’t for me. Reusable cloth pads are another good option too!

Thank you 😊
Yes, I’ve made a period products video that’s in the description! Thinx panties and reusable cloth pads are a good alternative :)
Lavendaire Thank you. I'll be sure to check it out.
Siobhan Smith I was too but I finally tried it. My advice is to first use it when you are home on your period and do use a pad or liner.
I didn't even realize I'm doing a lot of these steps. Yay! My next step is grocery bags, and I was researching the food wrap.

i love this video, the editing is so clean and aesthetic.
I started using Ecosia almost 2 years ago and I’ve planted over 60 trees!!! Highly recommend.
I really liked this video. Zero waste is a journey but a good one to take.
I loved this video! I really try my best to inform my family and friends on zero waste, because it's such a small but easy way to help our environment! Thanks for spreading the word!! ❤️
A very inspiring video. I've never commented before on UA-cam, which goes to show you how much you inspired me.
I would like to add some points
1. while switching to sustainable products we often end up buying such products which often come in low grade plastic wraps. So please make sure that the packaging is eco-friendly too.
2. Do not throw away your old plastic things- only switch when you have to. If you already have them keep using them until they are worn out. Simply throwing them away is also creating plastic waste
thank you, have been recently encouraging my family to live zero-waste and this video helped a lot.
The 4 easiest ones:
Stop plastic bags
Use reusable water bottles
Read online books only when ever possible
Use LED light bulbs
Fdccggyyggtbxrg7374o3oeowepoko9e9oekeo2io,
What would u use rather than plastic bags? For like potatoes and tomatoes and other veg/fruits that have to be weighted at the cash register?
@@lobarshovkatova8578 One simple solution would be to order reusable cotton bags! You can order them on Amazon I believe. My family uses them and there very convenient - you can just put them in your bigger bag that you also bring to the store ❤️ I hope I helped
@@lobarshovkatova8578 Here is a link to one place that you can order them from - www.ecobags.com
@@lobarshovkatova8578 There are reusable produce bags available for sale at most grocery stores :)
The best way is just to borrow in the library. But imagine the queue.
However, if you count how many books you can read in one of those devices throughout its life, I bet it is worth it. Not everyone has a good library close by and recycling also consumes resources.
that’s why you don’t throw phones and tablets in general waste
@@robertagomesrp actually ebooks vs books has ben researcher about, "Books from an environmental perspective" by ,Åsa Moberg, Clara Borggren & Göran Finnveden, and whilst ebooks can be less consuming, it is only if you use it often, have it in a low setting and it is produced with enviroment-friendly components.
Wht is the biggest fault in printed books were actually transportation of the books, so if you walk instead to drive to the library it is still a valid option:)

#9 Try cotton pads if a diva cup isn't for you!
I'm trying to move all my family into a sustainable lifestyle and this video was very helpfull, thank you for sharing this :D
Yeah this was amazing! I have started to watch all your old videos too. All i do is making myself a cup of green tea and relax while watching your videos. ♡♡♡♡ cause they're so helpful, beatiful, amazing and so relaxing!
Dea Hasanaj aww so wonderful. Thanks Dea!
Aw thank ,you!!!♡♡♡
Kirstie Kelly hahaha
Why did I not know about ecosia until now !?!?!
Gavin Burnes That is what I was thinking!!! 😂
I’ve been using ECOSIA for a year now, and so far I’ve helped plant THOUSANDS of trees where they’re most needed! 😌💕
I’m definitely signing up for ecocia, and I’m also gonna for sure use the tooth brush and grocery bag tip. Thanks!!
its easy to say all this stuff like "get jars, get bags, wooden toothbrushes, technology over books" but they are all so much more expensive!
I found this a problem as well, so I went on wish and it was super cheap and I bought some of the items
initially when you get started, maybe. but you end up saving a bunch of money in the long run! as long as you’re willing to give these companies your money just because it’s “cheaper”, they won’t change because they have no reason to.
it’s like buying any good quality item: it may be a bit more up front but it’ll last so much longer and save you more money in the long run, since you aren’t wasting your money on cheap, disposable things CONSTANTLY. save money and the environment ☺️
By the time you spend let’s say five bucks a month on straws, one or two metal ones can last forever! So it really is cheaper to go zero waste. And companies won’t stop until people stop buying them.
That's true, but not everyone has the money to pay upfront. It's a bit sad that we have to demand for something that should be obvious, really.
I love ecosia and you partnered up with them! Like like like!
Emily V
Usually, I start to fall asleep during sponsorship parts of videos.. but yours always get me hooked, and I always end up trying the product/site!
Reduce Reuse Recycle Rihanna.
😂
Sebastian Vargas XD
The true R’s😂
🤣😂
Sebastian Vargas is that an alliteration I see?
Watching this with my sister, when we got to the pad and tampon section she said “just use a diva cup!”. I am not a woman and I know that a diva cup is not for everyone, but it is definitely an alternative to consider!
Toto Jaede I know they can be intimidating or difficult to use for a lot of people, so another good option is washable cotton sanitary pads. Places like Etsy sell them and they come in all sizes and colours.
why does the waste end up in the ocean in the first place?
lia la it's terrible. There are didn't islands of trash in the ocean. Mostly plastic :(
lia la
Fun fact, sometimes people recycle ♻️ things incorrectly! Some states only recycle some plastics ( you can see a number on the product that will tell you). Also, some yogurt 🍦 cups are recyclable but it’s contaminated because some people didn’t wash the product out. And the #1 reason why waste ends up in the ocean 🌊 is
Littering! So if you see waste(even if it wasn’t yours) try and put in the correct area!
lia la
Because people put it there. 😢
@@ciarahbrookes9521 you dont need to put it there, it will end up there, according strong nature, wind, rain etc it end up in ocean anyway, or its just washed from the beach to hte seas...
Umm...because trash won't disappear into nothing...??
I'm very happy about Ecosia! You don't even have to do that much! Just one search can make a huge difference. Thank you for sharing! ❤
