  • A triple threat G-Machine! The Engine Power team takes an almost pristine '73 Split-Bumper Chevy Camaro and turns it into a triple threat car. It has to be competitive on the road course, the autocross, and the drag strip. To do all that it has to make big power, have an aggressive look, and handle like it's on rails. This is one car that will do it all.

    This project is special to me. I've been building and autocrossing these 70-73 Camaro's for nearly 50 years now, starting right out of college (where I bought my 1st 71 in 1974). I have never heard of Street Rod Garage in Grant Alabama, although I live almost rock throwing distance from that town (Huntsville Alabama). I'll have to drive over there one day and check those guys out! Thank you for highlighting and promoting them.

    I get starting with a clean car, but that thing was museum grade. Now it’s going to do the same thing but without the ability to say “look kid, that’s how it used to be”. I seriously doubt that it ever goes to get anything more than ice cream, let alone a time slip

    I was loving this build right up to the point we were told there would be no power steering, with those wide front tires and no front cowling you will need the incredible Hulk to drive that car on a road course or circle track. Put that car on a circle track with the setup you have now will make it a wall magnet. Hope you'll rethink this option.

    • @spdcrzy
      @spdcrzy 23 дні тому +2

      Every single one of these builds is the same. Nine inch rear end, LS, manual everything. It's stupid, and it's overdone. I feel like Pro Touring has reached a point in recent years where everybody is copying each other's work. Then they put a hundred grand into the bodywork just to make it look unique, as if that will make it drive, ride, or handle any differently.

  • @hawkdsl

    The Carbon Fiber parts are really incredible. Not a fan of CF, but it really woke up the look in this case. Even the wheels are amazing. Love that pattern. As far as hacking up a true survivor, well... that was hideous. Sorry, but that was nonsense. GM made millions of these, and you could have gotten one that was already gutted for way less money, and ended up with the same car. Great build, but the hack job gets a thumbs down. Shame on thee.

When I started building cars, we called them cars now they are called old cars. I am so sad that you found this absolutely perfect survivor and you are doing this to it. I respect the idea but there is a special place in hell waiting for you for what you have done to this beautiful piece of history. You couldn't find a junker to do this to? Well, I guess I will see you in the super-hot place. But I won't be there for doing this to such a nice car. Oh well I will just keep watching thank you for so much entertainment.

    Good job, guys! Way to build a $100k car one infomercial at a time! All while cutting up a near-perfect original early 2nd-gen Camaro!
    How many are left in this condition and THAT original (before you started hacking it apart)??? The answer.......one less! Literally the ONLY original parts you mentioned were being saved were the seats!
    It must be nice doing a build using the best of everything, including a shop and tools any DIY hot-rodder would die for! Even one of the more diminutive pieces of shop equipment (the Trajan 125 band saw) comes in at $850.
    Great for advertising products, which obviously gets you free tools, equipment, and parts in exchange, but that's not how it works in the real world.
    I'm about 1/2 way thru this long video and have seen enough. Nothing innovative or terribly unique, just an unlimited budget. It's no surprise shows like this are waning in popularity. On the other hand, channels that show what DIYers can PRACTICALLY and AFFORDABLY do, like VGG for example, are exploding!
    I'm sure the car turns out awesome! How could it not??? If it isn't NEAR perfect, I would consider this build an EPIC fail given the money, parts, and top of the line tools used!
    But good luck on your next corporate-sponsored, no practical budget build! I'm sure it will be great too! Go ahead and hack up an original muscle car in amazing condition while you are at it! But if you are going to put together another Camaro, make it something MORE rare next time, like destroying an original YENKO!

    Ive always liked this show but i gotta say I’m actually sick to my stomach watching them hack away at a classic in that solid of condition. They even addressed this and made it sound like they werent foing anything that severe. Terribly disappointed in seeing this. Why couldnt they have found something similar that wasnt in such hood shape.

    You don't need all those aftermarket goodies to have a restomod camaro, that full frame is overkill and you can see it peaking under the car, looks nasty actually LMAO just waiting to catch the smallest bump and there goes that powdercoat😂 carburetor and jetting is out sorry, fuel injection is superior and to bolt in a mechanical fuel pump?😆 too much money wasted on unnecessary things when it could have gone to repairing the rusted fenders and other hidden spots. I know it is a show to advertise products and tools but it sure carries people away to the illusion that they need to spend all that money on overpriced unnecessary parts to have a cool camaro. By the way, another opinion of mine is to remove that viny top because almost sure there is severe rust underneath. Should have dropped an LT4 and called it a day😂

    You guys know better than this... With the direction the automotive industry is going cars this rare need to be saved at all costs... there are so many CHEAPER cars out there that you could have used as your starting point, since your only reasoning for using this particular car was since "you guys aren't body guys" you needed something you didn't have to do body and paint work to which I understand but as a said get a cheaper starter car and use the 15-20k you saved to pay for body and paint work because obviously the chassis doesn't matter if its nothing but rust because you put a new one piece chassis under it.... I could keep going because this stuff fires me up... I'm going to go cry myself to sleep now.

      Yeah the many front wheel drive turds would be great candidates to convert them to correct wheel drive race cars. You do realize they're pricing most people out of this hobby by making race cars out of classic cars ruining them. The more race cars they make out of the classic and antique cars the less of them are available for the general public to enjoy the hobby with.
      The old cars already did there race car duties. So many of them turned to junk from being raced. It's the later models turn to do race car duty. Cull those cars not the classic and antique ones.🤷
      If this is pro touring build, then I'm good with that if it will get driven. But if it's a trailer queen to compete on a track against other cars with the chance of being totaled, I'm not good with that, how about you?🤷😎👍

    • @stringsattached67
      @stringsattached67 25 днів тому

      @@itseithergonnaworkoritaint7852 yeah but what they're doing right here isn't turning a car to junk if anything it's making a classic car better reliable more dependable faster I don't see anything wrong with that.

    • @itseithergonnaworkoritaint7852

      That depends on what they use it for. If they're going to trailer it to roundy round racing with other cars on the track, those kind of cars usually have a short life.🤷
