Cannot stress enough how difficult this series is to binge. It’s absolutely my favorite fiction ever but take your time and do not rush into it because of praise for the second half. It’s fully about the journey
"Knuckles" being nominated for "Best Adaptation" is funny as heck considering how most Sonic fans hated it, while the critics loved it, and shows the biggest divide between the two. For starters, Knuckles (the titular character, mind you) is a SIDE character after like the first two episodes.
I think both audiences would have been happier about Shadow Dark Beginnings being chosen instead. But I doubt TGA cares enough to research a 15 minute animation that has more thought put into it than the Knuckles show. This year honestly felt like Sonic had the most genuine shot at being nominated. Shadow Generations is well made enough to qualify for Best Family nomination.
I agree with Metaphor winning for best narrative, specially because it's a completely original story and Rebirth is incomplete as you mentioned, but i don't think that having an amazing narrative should be sufficient to grant GOTY for any game, it doesn't matter how amazing the narrative may be, the GOTY should be the game that does better when you sum all of it's parts, and in that regard i definetely believe FF7 Rebirth to be the best game to come out this year, it's the most vast and complex, it has high quality graphics and animations, incredible cutscenes, the game has some of the best cutscenes i've ever seen in a triple A game, fantastic dialogue, great level design losing only to Astro and Erdtree, and amazing music, with it's music integrated as a way to develop the characters and story, i'll be pretty disappointed if Rebirth doesn't win any major awards like Direction and/or GOTY, Hamaguchi definetely deserves to win something for his amazing direction
As a Chinese viewer, I've been following Max for many years. I really enjoy the atmosphere he creates on his channel and admire his love and passion for action games. That's why I was eagerly anticipating Max's thoughts on Black Myth: Wukong. Unfortunately, it seems that Max didn't really enjoy the game and didn’t even finish it. Perhaps the Buddhist cultural elements and storytelling are too complex or obscure for Western audiences, which I completely understand. Still, it’s a bit disappointing-I was really hoping to see Max take on Erlang Shen and the Broken Body of Wukong.
There needs to be a Best Expansion category and best Games As A Service category, since Phantom Liberty was put there last year and thats where Erdtree would of been withiut the rule change
I would love for Max and the guys to play Space Marine 2. It’s absolutely perfect for them, plus imagine how hilarious would it be to see them panic as they’re overwhelmed by hundreds of enemies.
Honestly, so long as Rebirth wins best Soundtrack, best VA for Bri, and either Game Direction, Best RPG, or GoTY, I’d be very happy. But if Rebirth doesn’t win anything it got nominated for, I’d be genuinely disappointed

I just want rebirth to win it so bad man. I’m studying game dev and nobody in my program even knew the game came out this year :/ The game deserves so much more respect imo, best gameplay, music and characters I’ve ever seen in an rpg.
I think it’s because for him, and many of us, Game of The Year shouldn’t be based on popularity, but rather on how good from top down a game is. If the Game Awards were based solely on popularity, Wukong or Endtree would literally sweep all of the categories they were in. Rebirth, Metaphor, and all the others wouldn’t stand a chance. And if Wukong and Shadow end up taking everything they’re nominated for, it would confirm the awards really are nothing but a popularity contest. Wukong is a good game, but to me, I’d put it right next to Stellar Blade. Great game. But nothing earth-shattering that leaves its mark on you
its now the lowest rated game on metacritic to be nominated for goty. Since, the same critic publications are the ones who nominate games for the game awards, it was surprising for him.

I heard sponsors like IGN, NPR, LA Times are picking what games are the best of the year like the players vote counts for only 10% of the decision. What a joke.
Asking for 4-5 fighting games a year is a high order. They are trying to create interests in this event. They just have to understand some categories are going to be small.
Regarding Multiversus, if I remember correctly, MK11 was nominated for best fighting game for two consecutive years (vanilla in 2019; then ultimate edition in 2020). SFV has been nominated 3 times (vanilla in 2016, Arcade in 18, Champ edition in 2020). I think it would be fairer if there were separate categories for best expansion, best remake, best remaster, best collection, etc; and keep the main categories as best *new* rpg, fighting game, action game, etc. Probably won't happen though.
Helldivers 2 did a complete 360 this year: it came out and was beloved and popular, they patched several nerfs over the subsequent months and the player base got pissed, and then they basically reverted everything and buffed it instead and everyone loves the game again
Most of the playerbase moved on. I don't know what kind of a braniac top dev thought to do nerfs in pve co-op game, instead of buffing underperforming things, but i hope he got replaced/fired
I'd say solid action game, but shouldn't win that instead should multiplayer for those early months when we were all united under freedom's flag until SONY decided to be dicks to PC players and devs showed how ignorant they are. Bruh why the hell is even in the best community support category.
FF7 and Metaphor should win most of these. Elden Ring DLC getting in over Silent Hill 2 or Stellar Blade in the GOTY category is just plain silly. Personally I'd be happy with either FF7 or Metaphor winning GOTY.
tbh I just want FF or Atlus to win GotY once, I have a feeling FF7R2 might win the GotY award considering it's also the most nominated game alongside Astro Bot, but I'd rather Metaphor to win GotY over Astro Bot in case FF7R2 won't win.
I kinda doubt that sparking zero would win, because it was losing player counts due to the game being unbalanced, the game having some flaws and multiple issues, and the game having modders, hackers, and players who play cheap. I think the only way it could make a potential comeback and possibly win GOTY is if bandai put a bunch of patch notes on the game, balance out the things that are broken, and ban some hackers, all this BEFORE the GOTY voting process closes. Otherwise, it's cooked.
They changed it from best fighting game to just best fighting. They deliberately adjusted it so more non strictly classified fighting like games can be nominated. Which I think is fair if they want more budokai smash like games to compete in this category (or steal it)
@@Mori13011 No it is not. It's a DLC. There are no mental gymnastics to play here. By definition it is not okay and it is a disgrace. ER released 2 years ago and already won GOTY. Giving the same game the same award 2 years later is absolutely disgusting. Best DLC? Absolutely. But this is a joke.

FF7R has to win best music. It's too good!
Part of me feels like Geoff makes these weird decisions just so people talk about The Game Awards.
Rebirth is a game of moments. The story is very thin. It's a game that's mostly about it's characters.
Wukong should definitely win something

There needs to be a Best Expansion category and best Games As A Service category, since Phantom Liberty was put there last year and thats where Erdtree would of been withiut the rule change
i don't even watch the game awards. I just wait for the trailers to drop lol.
I would love for Max and the guys to play Space Marine 2. It’s absolutely perfect for them, plus imagine how hilarious would it be to see them panic as they’re overwhelmed by hundreds of enemies.
I never take Game Awards seriously, but now I really dont take it seriously
Honestly, so long as Rebirth wins best Soundtrack, best VA for Bri, and either Game Direction, Best RPG, or GoTY, I’d be very happy.
But if Rebirth doesn’t win anything it got nominated for, I’d be genuinely disappointed
a lot of WuKong shade being thrown around. Now I hope Multiverses wins

I’m disappointed Lethal Company wasn’t nominated for Best Audio Design, for half of 2024 I’ve been seeing videos of Lethal Company
While I def agree about the audio quality, the game released in 2023.
A DLC being part of it has cemented the fact that it’s super rigged, I already didn’t think it was legit, now I’m sure.
00:56
I’ve never been more insulted by a question this perfectly valid before.
If DLC can be nominated, Terry for SF6 should win GOTY
Also it's wild that Sonic X Shadow didn't get a nomination
I’m surprised he didn’t expect Wukong to be nominated for game of the year considering it’s immense popularity 🤷♂️

Really good original songs that are catchy, I agree.

Asking for 4-5 fighting games a year is a high order. They are trying to create interests in this event. They just have to understand some categories are going to be small.
Good Video Max.
DLC being Nominated in GOTY makes me think that is Winning and as good as it is, DLC shouldn't be anywhere near GOTY.
The game awards lost some credibility for me after seeing that pathetic industry judging jury
Max is blown away that the recent Dragon Age wasn't nominated for Best RPG? Oh, you sweet, summer child...
"they still make VR games?"
As a VR enthusiast that hurts. But also VR has hit a massive creative wall...
Max Dood: Usada Pekora is my oshi
....probably.
Devs are trash
Most of the playerbase moved on. I don't know what kind of a braniac top dev thought to do nerfs in pve co-op game, instead of buffing underperforming things, but i hope he got replaced/fired
I'd say solid action game, but shouldn't win that instead should multiplayer for those early months when we were all united under freedom's flag until SONY decided to be dicks to PC players and devs showed how ignorant they are. Bruh why the hell is even in the best community support category.
1:30 thats actually crazy
FF7 and Metaphor should win most of these. Elden Ring DLC getting in over Silent Hill 2 or Stellar Blade in the GOTY category is just plain silly. Personally I'd be happy with either FF7 or Metaphor winning GOTY.
WHO TAKES THE GAME AWARDS SERIOUSLY?*

Surprised there is not a "Best Punching Game" category.
I'd love to hear their logic about some of the decisions they're making this year. I'm the absence of explanation... it's because of money.
Hey Max, you missed a word out of your title.
"Seriously" "Who Takes The Game Awards Seriously?"
My Favorite Nominee Was Slacker Cats Regardless of not being In the running or a Video Game but that was funny to me though
Metaphore win it all for me
I look forward to this video every year.
tbh I just want FF or Atlus to win GotY once, I have a feeling FF7R2 might win the GotY award considering it's also the most nominated game alongside Astro Bot, but I'd rather Metaphor to win GotY over Astro Bot in case FF7R2 won't win.
I'm a huge MultiVersus fan, and I think it is beyond stupid that it is nominated again. (TGA not making sense? WUUUUUUT?).
I hope RE9 gets announced and that DragonBall Sparking Zero wins
Which I think is fair if they want more budokai smash like games to compete in this category (or steal it)
A DLC being nominated is a disgrace to the industry and a spit in the face to every game developer.
If the dlcs about the size of a game it's fair game and if people could put out better games it wouldn't be hard to beat a dlc with an entire game
It's not a disgrace to the industry, settle down lmao . it's just an awards show

I think it could be argued that not giving additional content that required dozens of writers, programmers, composers and actors years of grueling work full credit it deserves is significantly more of a spit in the face of game developers.

The problem with nominating Marvel Fighting Collection is that it's not just a Game. It's multiple games in one package.
