I think the reason why she's so good is that she not only speaks the language and maintains being the same person but she kind of switches how she speaks based on the different cultural backgrounds of the language. For example she said sorry so many times which is exactly how japanese women do it. Thus, she is actually trying to connect with others very quickly with whatever she speaks and avoids deep identity based communication. It's a great tip for people learning because if you make the initial connection on a surface level it makes the learning more enjoyable, but if you get deep and try to explain your identity it can be hard for others to follow your thought process. Basically if you get too serious in any language people tend to shy away from you but if you keep it surface people are attracted to you because its fun.

André Gonçalves I am pretty sure that they both have incredible talent and skills to learn and speak in foreign languages, but tbh, Ukrainian and Russian part (as a native speaker) didn’t impress me at all. I’ve heard a few general phrases which are very often used by polyglots as a structure - it is a beautiful language - I don’t speak it well - I want to learn it, etc. And if you watch videos with other people who claim that they are polyglots, you will notice (even with subtitles) how they talk about same or close topics over and over again.

It’s better to learn 2-3 languages and speak fluently so you can always rely on your skills, rather than dozens of them at a mediocre level. Not sure about other languages but her French and Russian for instance are very basic. Survival level to buy an ice cream and that’s it. What the point of impressing people for these ‘polyglots’? I personally speak like 4 or 5 foreign languages and only English pays off by far.

Before learning language was text book or what you regurgitated second hand. She displayed typically a young Japanese teen with her hand gestures and facial expressions, amazing. I noticed this too with the other languages she spoke. The Vietnamese was amazing, most people say it sounds like playing a record backwards lol, I agree but still very fluent!

The impressive part is that they are 13, with maturity they will properly crystalize their pronunciation, before they even reach the end of their cognitive development. Though girls do mature much quicker than men, and seem to exhibit much earlier signs of intelligence, so I would say it's all very believable. I would recommend they learn whatever they want left, and then focus on reading greek and roman literature before the brain solidifies too much.

She may be my favorite person on the planet- a complete sweetheart with amazing language skills. She uses the word “friends” loosely, many are brief internet encounters. It’s like saying you speak a language when you only know a few dozen words and phrases. But Don’t judge, she is amazing.

"Speaking finnish" is a stretch, she used 6 words (of which 3 were the basic "Hello, how are you?" greeting), and if I hadn't had the english text to tell me what she was trying to say, I would not have understood any of them ("Terve, mitä kuuluu?", "Tervetuloa", "Suomi", "Suomalainen"). Claiming any sort of fluency - "I'm mainly fluent" - is like claiming to be a programmer in a language when you can write a "hello, world" program.

Fun fact I learned a few weeks ago when I was doing research for a character in a book I’m writing: young kids can actually learn and become fluent in multiple languages faster than adults because it’s easier for them to process and absorb. When you get older it’s harder to process that information. That’s why it’s ideal for most foreign speakers to learn English or other languages at a young age, and why by preschool or kindergarten some students are already bilingual in their native tongue and the language their school is taught in. I wish I knew this sooner so that way I could’ve started younger lol 😂
