The dream he had about trying to go toward the light and he was pushed away because it wasn’t his time is so heart breaking. We live in a very sad world.

When I was 15 I was in the hospital. There was a boy in there who had HIV from a transfusion. He passed the day my doctor gave me a day pass away from the hospital. When I came back his bed and belongings were cleared out. I cried so much that day. I wish I knew his name. I prayed so much for him. I thought he was getting better because one night the nurses took him for a walk around and I was there for 3 months but that was the only time he walked. I was praising God and thanking him but then 2 days later he was gone. It's not fair.

Blood donation
It’s so heart breaking. I’m just crying watching this. I’m pretty sure he’s in heaven as he was very calm facing death.
Two of their boys died, one lived (All three hemophiliacs who caught HIV/AIDS from their blood transfusions). The one who survived is married with children now, he lived long enough for some better drugs to come along. He'll always have HIV, but the drugs hopefully will keep it from from turning into full blown AIDS.

Poor kid. I remember this time when there were so many people suffering with HIV/AIDS. I remember back then being told you were HIV positive was like getting a death sentence. Over the last 30 years though, medicines and treatments for HIV have greatly improved. A vaccine is still in the works and there is still no known cure but we are a lot closer now than we were at the time of this newscast.

My first husband died after years of factorate injections, being a haemophiliac… I wrote a book about it, published in 1989 - Stigma: An Aid’s Widow’s story, (Jo-Anne Cohrs). After three nasty bouts of pneumonia, Ataxia finished his brain functioning…and he died after a short marriage full of one infection after another.

I just found out Randy Ray died a few months ago. His parents said his health began to rapidly deteriorate in the months leading up to his death back in May. But, they didn't expect him to die so quickly. Randy may have died from another illness besides HIV. Nowadays, people with HIV are able to live longer, healthier lives due to modern medicine. However, just having HIV may put you at a higher risk of other illnesses including cancer. The only difference is that you're less likely to develop and die from full blown AIDS.

Okay three brothers with Hemophilia required regular infusions of Factor 8. Blood donations weren't screened and almost guaranteed that those using the products would become infected with Hepatitis and later HIV. Not only weren't the donations screened but paid plasma programs in prison systems made it even more likely. The CDC wanted blood bankers and pharmaceutical companies to use a Hepatitis B test as a surrogate for the virus that causes AIDS. They refused. Blood shield laws largely protected them from criminal and civil lawsuits. After screening was in place and the product was heat treated the pharmaceutical companies chose to sell their entire supply before making the safer option available.
The Ray Brothers were successful in using the administrative appeals process of the 1971 Rehabilitation Act to return to school despite the wishes of the local school board and parents. So when they returned to school the neighbours set their home on fire.

When we were kids(late 80’s early 90’s) my Mom donated blood 🩸 at a local High School 🏫, in the upper class part of the county at that, and they had to toss the majority of the donations because they were HIV positive. Ricky Ray died too soon. I just found out the youngest brother Randy died back in May. His parents said his health began to deteriorate in the months leading up to his death. No one really knows whether Randy died from AIDS or something else. The only ones who do are his family and those close to him. May all of the Ray brothers RIP. 😔💐
Of course someone knows the cause of his death. It simply hasn't been reported to the general public.

this is the tragic price of valuing feelings over lives. I couldn’t believe my eyes 10 years ago when I read that they were going to allow gay men to donate blood because it is their “right.” why on earth would the ability to donate blood be a right?
I guess it's the same way people with bad genes think they have the right to keep having sick children that live lives of suffering whose treatment then must be paid for by other people. When they had the first child with hemophilia they should have stopped. Their daughter while healthy will still carry the trait that she can pass on.

The progression of the disease can vary a great deal. Yeah he otherwise had good preventative care and probably access to AZT but the "cocktail" wasn't really available until about 1996.

Someone's getting sued
Blood shield laws protected blood banks and pharmaceutical companies from many of the lawsuits that were brought forward. Blood was considered inherently dangerous. The Committee Of Ten Thousands settled with them later. By then many had died. The families recovered money for their dead children. Which helped because many had gone broke trying to care for their children as they died.

They were three emophiliac brothers who contracted HIV from transfusion: Ricky, Robert and Randy. Even though two of them lived longer and Randy passed away this year in 2023, I can’t really imagine the pain they and their relatives went through. Heartbreaking and unfair.

I can't imagine the pain and suffering and intolerance the Rays had to go through because of their son's illnesses, and now they have lost all 3 of them. The Rays seem like such a nice loving family who believe in equality and justice for everyone. However, I noticed from the 80s footage that the father had a few different Confederate Flag baseball caps and would wear them in public within being criticized. He also seems like a very kind man who would never have any of those hateful thoughts against certain groups of people. Did the Confederate Flag have a different meaning back in the 80s, or was it just as controversial as it is today? If anyone who grew up in or lived in the south in the 80s can tell me about it, please reply to my comment when you get a chance.

My first blood transfusion was at 19 in 2011 and my 3rd one by 2012 and 3 more after that ,my last one was in December 2019 when they told me I need it I wasn't sure what is was and when they said I could possibly get HIV /aids I was like no no no and they said I need it bad and I need alot over 2 liters. So I looked at it as I have no choice because it was life or death . First time I was in anemic shock . Later I wasn't so scared but no once does it NOT my mind . I don't want to get this and I pray he recover in peace 🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺may God be with him everyday amen 🙏
They test blood for hiv for aids back then was different. I pray you never catch him aids and chances are you never will.

Hemophiliacs from this time didn't really get whole blood or plasma transfusions. They received infusions of Factor 8. The distinction matters. Blood and plasma donations have screened donors and tested for the virus long before the dates that you have provided. Screening and heat treating Factor 8 largely solved the problem back when the Ray Brothers had already been infected.

It wasn't a blood transfusion but infusions of Factor 8. It is a protein found in plasma. Pooled plasma from risky donors greatly increased the chances of Hemophiliacs becoming infected with HIV and Hepatitis. One Factor 8 treatment comes from the blood/plasma donations of thousands of donors. Hemophiliacs often treated twice a week. More if they had an injury or a "bleed". The CDC tried to get blood/plasma banks and pharmaceutical companies to begin screening and treating the plasma used for Factor 8 sooner and they refused. Too much money. They kept selling the infected product after the other options were available.
