Don’t know WHY you’re worried about presenting in public, Simon and Gemma you are both absolute naturals when it comes to communicating your ideas and feelings to the wider world. Keep it up!
Gemma, you are just normal people, that is really why so many of us are so interested in your progress. We can relate to how much work it is and how hard you work. Let me add that Emilia has really grown and matured over the past year.
I could literally sit and listen to you two talk all day. You had absolutely no reason to be nervous. Your way of conversing with people makes it feel like your just hanging in the kitchen (it's a Newfie thing) or living room with old friends chatting and laughing. You're two very special and down to earth people that I could see myself being good friends with, although my commute from Toronto might prove difficult. Lol. Keep on keeping on!
I subscribed to your channel after your first episode and haven’t missed an episode, I absolutely love the project you have undertaken, you two must have hearts as big as buckets and from what I can see you will never give up even when the tasks look like they are insurmountable, may you get as much joy doing what you are doing as I get from watching 💕👍
You had just the right amount of nerves before starting your talk. Three keys to doing talks like yours - know your subject, be yourself, be a little nervous. You nailed all three, well done :-)
I love you precious people. Its amazing how close you can feel and the love you can feel to people who open up their lives for us to see inside your life. Its actually very healthy because you walk past people every day and probqbly inwardly judge all the time without realising , hey ! Everyone u walk past has a story. A family, a life. So everyone, must have something that's love worthy about them.
We watch you not to see a car crash but to see the excellent work you are doing to save a national maritime treasure. If you didn’t do it, I suspect it would rot away and be forgotten. It’s getting better all the time.
All my admiration for your work. I´m sorry for been 70 years old and living too far away (in Argentina) for try to help you in this wonderfull work you are doing. Congratulations and please GO ON. Thanks por your videos
The only thing I would add to a presentation is afterwards you have a Question and Answer period. I am sure people will have lots of questions about your fantastic ship. I look forward to each episode, and love what you are doing.
You two are cawesome a fantastic roll model for your children showing them that life can be tough at times but no dream is to large to achieve I love what you are doing keep your spirits high and remember we all love what you are doing
Dear Gemma and Simon, That was great and do you know you brought tears to my eyes, I've followed your vlogs from the beginning and offered helpful advise and encouragement for you to consider. I owned a Dunkirk Little Ship for 15 years made three Returns to Dunkirk met Prince Phillip and Prince Charles on one of them. Dined at the House of Commons for the laying up supper after the Returns. None of this would have happened had I not seen Lazy Days and bought her a my digs while working on the Heathrow Express tunnel at terminal 4. LD was moored on the Thames just 7 miles away. I took the old girl back to Castleford Yorkshire where she was built in 1930, found the boat yard, went to the pub next door and chatted to the landlord, he phoned around and found guys who had worked at the yard and laid on a supper. The local paper came along, I had contacted the local radio station and they interviewed me over the phone, and a lady came forward, her dad built Lazy Days. On the way back down to the Medway we moored at the Goole Waterways Museum it had been arranged that we attend their open day, Bill my crew mate and I were interviewed now Bill had been a fisherman out of Grimsby, in the Merchant Navy and a marine insurance inspector, so know every port up the East Coast and every pub. We dressed LD overall and flew the Cross of St George from the Jack Staff, the museum curator pointed out that as we were the DLShip in attendance we could not fly it, I pointed out the museum had a silver model of Chico a DLS owned by Sir Malcombe Campbell and built in Goole and so there were two Little Ships. We were featured in the Yorkshire Post and the reported brought along a group of Dunkirk Veterans who had just attended a funeral for one of their mates, we saluted him with a large scotch and went onto salute a lot more. This all happened as I needed some digs it was not planned in anyway at all, similar to you so you have all this to look forward to. Men will salute your boat as you make Harbour and you for bringing her there. I was saluted while making a lock on the Thames, we stopped and invited the 3 generations of the family aboard. grandad and his grandkids went below and made use of the library of books. Later I received a letter from the kids school history teacher enclosing an essay from the granddaughter that had taught him the History of Dunkirk. It still makes me cry that me helping to save an old boat had done that. Wow how you have stirred me up, next year I plan to come over to the Uk, one meet up with my family. Two to crew my mates wonderful Dunkirk Little Ship, White Marlin. Three meet up with you guys if possible. Sorry if I went on a bit.
A great presentation, not in fact 'winging it' but talking passionately about the project and not God forbid reading robotically from a script. As ever, punching way above expectations. Inspirational !
I agree. But I think that would remove part of the charm of the job - they are working with the tide & weather which makes life harder, but more interesting. And where would the fun be in watching them move an 8by4 off a dockside onto the boat compared to the spectacle of them loading it into the little jolly boat.....
On seeing the videos I am amazed at the work you have undertaken, but given your business I’m not so surprised how professional you both are- just a big VW camper!😍😂 But seriously will you need to spend sometime on the hard side to complete the boat??
Wow, you guys looked amazing and did a brilliant presentation (what we saw of it). You are natural presenters and speakers. That’s why you have so many viewers, because we tune in to see you guys. Yes, we are interested to see the progress on the boat, and for me there is the local element with you being just down the road, but it is your banter and sense of fun that is the addictive element of your channel in my opinion. Long may it continue. ❤️
You three are loved and admired, and so many of us live through you vicariously. I imagine it's hard to grasp when you are working on the boat talking into a small black box, but the world is out here in awe of your family, your efforts, and your bravery. Live life to its fullest and bravo for taking that big step into the scary unknown. Its paying off in spades for you and all of us as well.
Have been following you since you bought that hopeles rotten old wreck, and I injoy your optimism👍, you are so natural and honest, love you both❤- don`t care about all the bad comments- these people do not have a happy life!!! Regards from A follower from Denmark. Hope to meet you some day.
You to are natural public speakers. Of course you were nervous. Everyone will be as this was your first time. You know what you are both talking about so you have nothing to worry about for future talks. Great job and it looks like you had a great day. Catch you soon x
People like to watch other normal people learn from their mistakes and overcome obstacles to succeed! We feel we’re learning with you and are part of your project if only to cheer you on. 👍👍🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🤘🏻🤘🏻
Superb progress and documentation of each step of your restoration of your vessel. Your upbeat attitude and ability to laugh at your missteps is inspiring! Well done!
Fabulous! 'Imagine the audience is naked' is a great way to calm the nerves until you get carried away and join in (the church meeting never quite recovered). Credit where credits due to the other ships, but they're doing it in properly equipped boatyards- you're doing it on the mud! Glad you had a lovely day out in the Lakes, it never fails.
A really nice vlog made without any retentions at all. So I keep watching your inputs with pleasure I have canoed hundreds of miles, sailed more out in Oman when I lived there for some11years - 75 - 86. But I envy you of your adventure If I was 25 years younger I would volunteer to worker with you! But at 85 next month that is just a very pleasant dream to drift off to sleep with Keep going -- it is fun to watch - quite brill
I have been watching and a subscriber since the first episode. My choice to subscribe was based on your obvious love for the history of the boat and your desire to save her. I know you will succeed in getting Sarinda up and running again. Good Luck, and here's hoping you will meet your deadline for the channel crossing.
First, Gemma, you clean up quite well. Second, thanks for taking us along. Some beautiful watercraft to be seen. Nice to see Chris Craft represented there. Keep up the good work, looks as though your talk turned out well. I like to talk, I hate public speaking. So i appreciate your apprehension. Best regards from Indiana, USA.
Thank you both for a brilliant video of your day. Loved every second of it . Have watched every minute of every video you make, including Amelia’s project. Thank you for your hard work in production and editing such wonderful videos. Stay safe and well, will look forward to your next instalment.
That was a proper steamboat! Nice job with your presentation, you did wonderfully. I'm happy to see you and your project getting more attention and exposure. Truly impressed.
Well you both clean up a treat, lol, enjoyed the vid, and well done the both of you with your public speaking skills, for both of you being nervous you both did very well like a couple of pros ye were, lol

Like many others have been watching you all since the first instalment, enjoyed the talk you both have no need to worry about public speaking keep up the good work 👍
Poop deck - French word for stern, la poupe, from Latin puppis. The 'head' is naval/marine term for 'toilet'. This is because the wind on a sailing ship tends to come from behind, so you go to the front (head of the ship) to create the smells and other unpleasantness, where it gets blown away from the ship. If you look at old-fashioned ships, you will also notice netting under the bowsprit, to facilitate doing your business with less danger of falling. In episode 9, Simon tells the children duff information - I couldn't let that pass. I'm from a Navy family and I've been a teacher, so I'm between a rock and a hard place. I'm thoroughly enjoying your family journey, thank you so much for sharing it. Your efforts are so admirable. I would love to tell you the differences between 'cleats, bollards and fairleads,' but I don't want to offend you in any way. All the very best, keep on doing what you do. Mike. xxx
Simon i have been married for 45 years, i have always lived by the following motto when looking at boats for sale, it is far easier to ask for forgiveness, than it is to ask for permission lol.
I'm glad you are getting a chance to share your work in this talk. But I've been wondering about is : when will Emilia be releasing another video about her dinghy rebuild ?
Well done you both did a great presentation and from my point of view watching your journey was about and still is about the end product and how you tackle the project elements on the way. I certainly didn't think about you failing, I assumed you had a vision and the only two difficult areas are finance and time and both can be extended as you wish so the end project is certainly possible. There are some projects on YT that I would expect to fail over time due to the lack of focus/skill/effort and research before tackling certain tasks but they are not you two, your passion to succeed is strong. Now the roof is on what next? Looking forward to the next task

Don’t know WHY you’re worried about presenting in public, Simon and Gemma you are both absolute naturals when it comes to communicating your ideas and feelings to the wider world. Keep it up!
Totally agree but I suppose it's like anything with public vs private, people feel awkward when it's randomers seeing you.
Gemma, you are just normal people, that is really why so many of us are so interested in your progress. We can relate to how much work it is and how hard you work.
Let me add that Emilia has really grown and matured over the past year.
Well deserved, and I hope that day inspires you to know how found of you all, thoes who follow you my friends.

Aww thanks Jay! It was very scarey talking infront of so many people! But you know us we can talk for Britain 🤣
You both did really well at public speaking.... it's not easy 👍🏻
At 64 I do lot in my life but you guys are amazing and show the world the attitude we should all have , work and the mental health too ,

Good relaxed talk, like the fact that gemma wore the pj bottoms and simon the top, just shows what a great team they are.
LOL I was thinking the same thing!
But their presentation was top notch!
Economising on expenses!
I just love your enthusiasm for the project, that I get you to the finishing line.🤗🤗
You,re beautiful people. Thank you for sharing this adventure

Think of it as a warmup for when you start getting invited to speak at the big boat shows! ;)
That was well done... I appreciated the links as well. Thanks!
Thanks for taking us along!! Great to see you guys getting recognition and notice! More success to you!
You two are cawesome a fantastic roll model for your children showing them that life can be tough at times but no dream is to large to achieve I love what you are doing keep your spirits high and remember we all love what you are doing

well done that was great, keep up the good work, you are opening up a lot of intrest.

Great talk, really well done.
I wish someone would offer up a dock to make it easier on y'all getting materials on and off. keep up the great work, I love how the roof turned out!
Exactly! Or better yet dry dock at a boat yard.
I agree. But I think that would remove part of the charm of the job - they are working with the tide & weather which makes life harder, but more interesting. You two shine up like a brand new penny! A fine job on your public presentation 👏

Well done indeed Gemma & Simon , your presentation was perfectly done , if it was me doing a public chat I think I would sound like a scorched cat.

Liverpudlians are natural entertainers. Everyone loves the accent.
Now you are celebrities....congrats to you both, you have, (still are), putting the effort in. Its a big commitment, particularly when you have children to think about.
It will all be worth it in the end.
Are you intending to travel with the boat or use it as a weekend home?
Brilliant. You didn't show the audience, perhaps they WERE naked. Well done both of you.
