Never heard of her before her voice is stunning, didn't know she was so young aswell, to be such a fan and speak so elequently and passionately about these Jazz artists is great to hear I like the amount of young artists getting into Jazz nowdays it leaves me with a good feeling for the future of Jazz it's in safe hands 😊
@@madhavraghu OK what are you guys the fucking spelling police jesus, I wrote on my touch screen phone quickly so it might not of come out perfectly who cares
She is literally picking everyone one of my favorite albums. Each time she pulls one out, I feel like I'm in a weird twighlight zone episode :) Great taste!
Most of her albums that she picked are artists that my parents love and respect. They are jazz musicians and love the artists she picked. I've only known about Laufey a couple days ago after seeing this video and now I am obsessed. I love her Jazz style. It's like Jazz meets Indie. I can definitely tell she was influenced by Norah Jones and it makes sense why she picked that album. I also showed this to my former music theory professor because she also mentioned Bill Evans and Shostakovich. He loves Bill Evans. If you have not listened to her new album, you must! Her songs and arrangements are absolutely gorgeous
I was always captivated by Laufey's voice and I could never put my finger on how to describe it. But when she mentioned that others have said she sings like a cellist, I immediately had my 'aha!' moment because yeah, it's true. I believe that's why I adore a lot of her songs, esp Fragile. She sings like a cellist and I love listening to the cello.
Laufey and her sister are such darling and very talented young people. I love all of Laufey's choices, esp. Chet and Pops. But, all these artists sign and play with such incredible feeling, phrasing, dynamics, a beautiful amount of texture.
by being a swiftie, im so surprised that laufey is a fan of taylor too! im a fan of both of them and i didnt really expect laufey being a swiftie. I LOVE THEM BOTH UGHHHHH
She's figured out a way. She seems like a nice young woman and a good musician - but we'll see if she ever gets beyond the slavish imitation stage of her career.
very cool girl indeed, love most of all her choices, she seems like a romantic in her choices,i was not familiar with her at all but now im going to check her out, talent and sweetness seem to have surrounded her, wish her much good fortune👍🌻💙🍁🍂
I'm surprised that as a cello player she doesn't mention Scott LaFaro's bass work on Bill Evan's "Village Vanguard Sessions". For me his bass playing raised these recordings above most of Evan's other works.
one of the great things about whats in my bag is discovering new artists i have never heard of laufey but they come across as i nice person and great performer the description of the bill evans live album with the glass and cutlery noises in the background was awesome
What a well-spoken, thoughtful woman with a curious mind and wonderfully diverse taste! A lot of respect... and I'm now going to check out her music. (and on a personal note: If you ever need an album cover, I'd love to do some artwork for you!) Cheers!
Fitzgeralds Songbook recordings especially the Cole Porter and the George & Ira Gerswin songbooks are great. And try Thelonious Monk if you are into jazz.
I love your music, your voice is absolutely fantastic and super cosy. I haven't liked jazz before, but now i begin to feel this type of music, slow and cosy ones
You are a great artist, you inspired me to learn 'I wish you love'. I am a tin pan alley ukulele artist and jazz singer 63 years old. I love your original music, but I would love to see you do a cover album of jazzy Chet Baker type songs. Please don't lose your teeth like Chet! You have such a sweet smile. when are you coming to Japan (where I live).
Chet Baker, while on the hunt for drugs, got beaten up so badly that he sustained permanent damage to his lips and teeth and lost his "Embouchure" (subtle but critical ability for lip/tongue seal on brass instruments). Didn't play well for years after. Finally, his technique improved but he never really shook off his drug habit. Tragedy.
If you want a good “rebellion” symphony, Shosty’s fifth is fantastic. There were so many censors, that he made a completely sarcastic, “F-you” symphony that “followed the rules.”
I loved go to music store and Buy albums like Liszt simphonyc poems, Bach Richter Sacred music and guillou pipe organ spectacular and Ibarra Hauk Organ symphonies, maybe due that I like Laufey
I really never listen to the radio today , i listen more to the alternative stuff, electronica and just spotify.I have never heard about Laufey but i have seen her acting on the tv and i knew she is a celeb here in Iceland. I am Icelandic and somehow i have missed her existence.
The most a person's voice has ever sounded like a cello in the history of music is probably Edmundo Rivero's recording of Milonga triste with Osvaldo Tarantino's orchestra, especially right before the chorus (about 0:50, 2:05 and 3:15 in the video): ua-cam.com/video/Jk70rR1J0dM/v-deo.html
She is one of my favourite artists of all time a long with lamp and mitksi shes the reason i got into jazz im glad shes getting the attention she deserves
I love that she pulled out Billie Holiday first. The first Laufey song I ever heard immediately reminded me of Billie the way she slid so easily from note to note.

I like her choice of records.
It seems refined.
Her music gives me the feelings like listening to standard numbers.
Most of her albums that she picked are artists that my parents love and respect. They are jazz musicians and love the artists she picked. So refreshing that Laufey's taste in music isn't the usual predictable picks and is something far more mature and musical....she has a good ear.
I was always captivated by Laufey's voice and I could never put my finger on how to describe it. I love this woman! super talented, multi instrumentalist with absolute gorgeous voice.
Not surprised to hear that Ella Fitzgerald is a big inspiration for her. When I close my eyes and listen to Laufey, I get the same vibes as with Ella.
Laufey and her sister are such darling and very talented young people. I love all of Laufey's choices, esp. Chet and Pops. But, all these artists sign and play with such incredible feeling, phrasing, dynamics, a beautiful amount of texture.

Even her speaking voice is so pleasing, and when she sings... forget it. The complete complete package.
Classy selections. Can’t go wrong when your musical taste is solid.
Taylor Swift? Solid??? 🤣🤣🤣
@@ariescustom do you work at Championship Vinyl by any chance?
@@ariescustom An unfortunate aberration in an otherwise really solid selection XD

I listen to her everyday now after I watched this vid. Love her voice, her musicit puts me in the best place of peace and romance...Bless Amoeba.
I just discovered this young lady yesterday and so glad I did! This generation's Nora Jones for sure! Love her music!
Laufey’s singing voice melts my heart ❤️ Takk!
I thought this would be some dumb video about all the random crap she has in her bag. So glad it's music she loves. That's awesome
I love Norah Jones too, she has incredible taste.

She is adorable, talented smart and I am very in love with her.

Nice selections! I'm not surprised by her picks. It's obvious that her sound and style are informed by good music. 👍🏻
Me and Laufey have the same music taste I’m in love with her!!
Thank you for bringing life back to modern music with your own original sound. Beautiful and talented Bossa Nova singer.
Got the Chet Baker based on your recommendation. Its great
Yeaaaahh she is just amazing ✨, I am glad she is getting the attention she deserves ❤️✨ Jazz is not dead ✨❤️
I’m in love with laufey. I love her sm

Such a special person - humble, charming, beautiful and what a voice. Megastardom looms
Never Heard of her, but what I hear sounds GREAT, very RETRO!!!!!!!
she's a little off about some of the musical history behind her picks, but...they are great records.
4:10 OMG THE ALBUM NAME IS IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU AND SHE ENDS UP ALSO NAMEING A SONG THAT ON BEWITCHED:GODESS VERION
I am in deep love. This has been my most important musical discovery of the year. This girl is a freaking angel *_*
I LOVE your sharing Laufey!! I am gonna expand my obsession with Jazz :) thanks for hosting the interview
It's funny that jazz is more popular outside of the country where it first developed
Great video. I love when the presenter asks follow-up questions.
Don't you just love it when the algorithm pops up with gems.
Subbed. Looking forward to discovering more of your music 🙌🤙
Fitzgeralds Songbook recordings especially the Cole Porter and the George & Ira Gerswin songbooks are great. And try Thelonious Monk if you are into jazz.
Her picks are great, now I just want to sit and talk music with her haha
Laufey’s music taste is so lovely! ❤
I love your music, your voice is absolutely fantastic and super cosy. I haven't liked jazz before, but now i begin to feel this type of music, slow and cosy ones

I love Laufey even more now that I know she's a Norah Jones fan!! Great video

Can’t wait for her to go up in the world
i could listen to her talk for hours she’s so comforting
she's so right her voice is so similar to ella's !! laufey might be the new generation of jazz
I’m not surprised she’s a Norah Jones fan. Norah was the first person I thought of when I first heard Laufey. Her voice is mesmerizing.
I love the way her name is pronounced. (which btw is icelandic)
If you want a good “rebellion” symphony, Shosty’s fifth is fantastic. There were so many censors, that he made a completely sarcastic, “F-you” symphony that “followed the rules.”
a hidden gem for those who discover her
10:00 she talks so cool (:

like, I'm like, really into Shostakovich and stuff
SHE MADE A COVER OF "IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU"!!!!
YESSSS
Very classy for her age. Inside she is like my fave aunt from the 70s who spoiled me with cake and lemonade.if only she didn't like Taylor.
Laufey deserves the world
Did a bit of a double-take when she pulled out that Playboy thing... Then I realized Hefner was a big jazz buff... Oh okay... 😂
Oh this dork
She’s like picking like albums that she likes, and like I like, like some of them
😄
Finally someone who is super interesting! When she sings, her voice is heavenly
dont knwo who that is but very attractive
I feel so lucky to know that we both have similar tastes.
A sweet young lady. ❤
I really never listen to the radio today , i listen more to the alternative stuff, electronica and just spotify.I have never heard about Laufey but i have seen her acting on the tv and i knew she is a celeb here in Iceland. I am Icelandic and somehow i have missed her existence.
Laufey has such a pretty smile and her taste in music is immaculate
She has got to be one of the loveliest people I've ever seen. She has a beautiful child-like openness and sense of wonder to her.
Love her sm!
I hope laufey meets Sarah Bareilles soon 🥰🙏
Great album picks. I have a few of them on vinyl. I do still need to get that Chet Baker though.
She s great. Beautiful picks. Gonna check her out. Thanks
We have similar favorite music. Im not a singer but am trying..

Love people like her, those that aren’t consumed by themselves but appreciate the good in the world.
Chet Baker, Ella, Louis and Nora Jones simply invite on a magical journey of vocalization

I love that she pulled out Billie Holiday first. The first Laufey song I ever heard immediately reminded me of Billie the way she slid so easily from note to note.
This is the first time that I fall in love at first sight, damn. I’m not even trying be funny. This is crazy.
She says like a lot. Does she write songs, cause how, like, does she write lyrics w/o 20 likes in the song?
if it's not for the pandemic...i will never be a fan of Laufey😭😭😭
