- Spend an hour in EPCOT Center during its first year of operation! This great video from September 1983 has some really wonderful shots from all over EPCOT including the Age of Information show, Kitchen Kaberet, and a performance by the Future Corps band. There are also ride through videos of Listen to the Land as well as World of Motion. A few shots of CommuniCore and pans around the then-new park round out this fun restored home video!
I think this video contains the longest bits of audio of UOE’s original area music we know to exist in 2021. Amazing how impressive those structures were when presented how they were intended.
Disney really ruined such an amazing park, didn’t they?
I’m just glad they at least brought back the transparent spires in front of SE.
Couldn’t agree more. Makes me long for the original Epcot.
I haven't been to Epcot since 2002. We visited about 10 times between 1988 and then, (from England).
The original universe of energy music loop doesn’t exist
What's on full public display here is what truly made EPCOT a beautiful experience. The heart of said expereince has been ripped out, how tragic.
I was 12 in 83. I went to Epcot in 82 I think. We stayed at the Contemporary Hotel. My mom had to go to the gift shop in the hotel and buy me a bunch of Izod shirts because she forgot my clothes hanging in a motel we stayed in on the way down from NC. It’s funny what we remember about life happenings.
I was also 12 in 1983 and Visited EPCOT in January of 1984.
@@crunchbunch9547 that makes us turning 50 this year....oh boy, time flies! Happy milestone Bday whenever it is:))
@@susanlester1 Thank you, and Happy 50th Birthday to you!
The crowds compared to today...WOW! wouldn't it be nice if it was still like that at times.
Epcot Center opening cast member here. Wow, I can't explain the wonderful experience of having been a part of the first years of this park. I will never forget the memories.
What did you do in the park
I wish I had visited the original version of epcot. But the next best thing is watching these videos and listening to your podcast👍😺🥂
I'm really glad they changed the front back to what it looked like in the 80s.
This was my childhood. I was born and raised in Orlando. Great video. Thank you
That band w just brass are fantastic; wonder where they are now, anyone go into music they’re gifted
80s Epcot was Magical.I remember it very well. This is the best footage of Epcot I’ve seen from the early 1980s. Thank You.
We only visited it once in the 1980s, in October/November 1988. Also about 8 times in the 1990s, and finally in 2001 and 2002.
Fuck the park loop sounds way better then that same loop you hear all over Future Worlds
Right before Horizons opened. What a great trip this was back to the original and best EPCOT Center.
I first visited EPCOT Center in February 1986. “The Living Seas” had just opened. I was only 4 1/2 but the place just absolutely captured my imagination. I thought I had gone into the future. One of the happiest times of my life. I’ll never forget it!
October 1988 for our family. An amazing experience, especially compared to the UK.
Thank you! This was MY EPCOT Center experience!
It was so much a better time. I miss Disney World in the 80’s. I will not go back. Change, unfortunately is constant. Thank you for the video.
I was there with my family during the first week of September, 1983.
Georgia peach watching now. 🍑 🌎 Thx. Love it. 🎉❤😊
Kodak, Exxon, Kraft, AT&T, General Motors etc all sponsored their rides and exhibitions and it showed in the quality. It didn’t feel like product placement, it felt like a partnership. When they all left Epcot, Disney had to look after it.
Great stuff
I forgot about all the cultural performances…not having them now really is a loss for the park.
Awesome footage! Especially the SMRT-1 clip! I wish I could’ve experienced Epcot in its prime, it looks so beautiful!
Yes....it was very special.
LOVE: Omnibus. Grass & trees around World Showcase. Double speed rooms in World of Motion. Radok screens in Universe of Energy. Mr. Egg. Classic BGM. ❤️❤️
What? Nobody's looking down at their mobile phones! I WANNA GO BACK TO '83 AND STAY THERE!!
wow that was so cool sep 1983
They didn't film Veggie Veggie Fruit Fruit??? Just kidding. This video's a lot of fun and memories. Thanks RWDW.
Really had no clue the fountain was already dancing long before it became the Fountain of Nations.
Looks like there's some great footage here. I have to go back and watch the whole thing. I only skimmed for now looking for the Future Corps footage. I didn't see any. I did see a brass band at the 44minute mark. That was the other group, Future Brass.
Whoa! Lay off the churros willya! 9:47
46:30 - Nice Chicago medley by that roving band! Too bad my co-worker referred to them as 'Chicaphony'. Her loss!
EPCOT is dead.....you missed it. No fountain scraps can make up for the massive mistake after mistake that we have today. Its like a theme park version of
'Catwoman' Jocelyn Wildenstein.
Mind if I ask what you did to restore the 8mm film? I'm digitizing my family's films. While I have 720p rips thanks to my wolverine pro I'd love to do some cleanup. Heck I have a few films from the park in 1985 with parade video (no audio)
I'm realizing as I look at this you meant 8mm tape, not 8mm film... >
Have you guys attempted to restore footage from, say, Back To The Future: The Ride?
they are RetroWDW, not RetroUniversal!
Different parks, These guys focus on saving and restoring old WDW video. I will say that on most BTTF DVD/Bluray sets they do have "The Ride" included as a bonus feature.
It was waaaaay better
We all know Disney would just trot out that tired old “not a museum” quote to justify ruining Epcot. 🤣
That place really *was* a masterpiece and should’ve enjoyed constant improvements and progress into the future, not the “see-what-sticks” mess it became
Nobody on phones...
You realize this was before cell phones were invented?
@@zacharywinograd2647 The first mobile phone was invented in 1973. Satirical observations of the world in light of changing societal norms dates back even further…
Lmao everything is the same thing again at the beginning
No Norway or Morocco or African village
You seem to forget that this video is from 1983. They didn't have a lot in that park yet. Like they do now.
