    I was camping at Crater Lake 17 years ago. It was August, it was beautiful, the moon was huge, and it was 33 degrees at night. To paraphrase W.C. Fields, "One of the coldest Winters I ever camped was a Summer night at Crater Lake."
    Have fun at the meet up.

    "I opened up the hood and confirmed the engine is there." Awesome!! And that pretty much explains my mechanical abilities as well. Great video as always!

      Yep, same here.
      The ability to call and pay for a tow truck is one of the best mechanical abilities a guy can have.

    Marc, we had a breakdown and they towed us to the campground where we had the reservation, then towed the truck to the Ford dealership as well. You guys gotta get AAA. The Pollard's.......

    We're staying near Mt St Helens tonight and tomorrow night! Are you planning a meet up in the south sound area? Were' hitting the road southbound after Labor Day. We just hit the road full time on 4th of July, but hanging around till end of summer to give our kids a chance to find alternate daycare and to wean ourselves from having our grandson so much. You guys really inspired us and I used your list of must haves for setting up our very first ever travel trailer! We had never RV'd before, but you guys made it so easy to understand and confront the challenges. We're starting our own UA-cam channel too! Granna and Grandad's Science Travel Adventure! We're traveling the country and digging fossils, seeing neat geology, astronomical photography,and doing what we always wanted to do but waited till retirement to follow our dream! We're still learning the editing part too! You guys make it look so easy peasy, but it's not! You guys rock! Thanks for the inspiration! PS you should get a Pekingese for your next dog!! Our little Donut LOVES the RV life!

      Thanks for the comment. We're in Vancouver BC now. There are many dog ideas... but need something that will do well on a sailboat. We'll see what happens.

    My home state! I miss "Dutch Brothers!" My favorite is the "Anialator!" Crater Lake is 52 miles north of my hometown. Klamath Falls. lol! Great video! It's all so familiar! Google the story about Dutch Brothers. One passed sadly away. When I go to Peoria, Arizona, I get my Anialator..some day they will come to Orange County. 🌴👍Sorry about your engine trouble.

    The drone footage is my favorite part. Vehicle trouble is not fun! Out of fuel, I would say WOW but my son did that once on 183 in Austin at 4 PM and you know how busy that is! Can wait to find out what really happened.

    Hi Marc and Trish. If you're near downtown Vancouver tonight, be sure to check out the Honda Celebration of Light international fireworks competition at English Bay, starting at 10:00 PM. Several hundred thousand people will watch an amazing 20 minute show put on by Japan. The UK show is on Wednesday and Canada wraps it up next Saturday.

    • @KeepYourDaydream
      @KeepYourDaydream  7 років тому +1

      We'd love to do it. Any ideas on how to do it and not get mixed up in gridlock crowds until 2am!?! Lots to do tomorrow we'll need our sleep for.

    • @leonard7475
      @leonard7475 7 років тому +1

      If you're staying on the north shore, your best choice is to watch the show from one of the beaches in West Vancouver that has a direct line of sight with the barge, which is moored just off of English Bay, near Stanley Park. You definitely don't want to drive downtown. Transit will also be very busy too, so avoid taking a bus or skytrain. I hope that this is helpful.

    Thanks for another great episode.
    Just SO much fun!
    I’m amazed at how much snow there was at Crater Lake in the middle of summer.
    Mosquitos, ugh.
    Truck broke down far from home while towing the travel trailer? Yeah, I can tell you some stories.
    Being proactive about vehicle maintenance is the key. Also, AAA plus Good Sam or Coach Net. Also, make sure you have a credit card with a lot of credit left to use.
    Redundant levels of protection.
    Best Of Luck

    Bad fuel rail. Common on these engines. Quick fix is to unplug the sensor. It will trick the computer and get you going, but fuel economy will suck due to it running rich. Also, I would not put any load on the engine, like towing, due to the risk of cat failure.
    I love the videos and the upbeat attitude. I know how tough it is to stay positive in situations like this...

  • @toddhoffmaster6057
    @toddhoffmaster6057 7 років тому +2

    Sounds like you got some bad fuel at the last fill up and that maybe it has water in it or the fuel pump & fuel filter have clogged with debris and needs to be replaced.
    This is another great video from y'all. Oregon is beautiful...

  • @michellnav
    @michellnav 4 роки тому

    ugh....We had a Ford 150 that went caput on us about 25 miles outside of Paige AZ last year. It was a bad sensor that was shutting the truck down because it thought the truck was overheating...which it wasn't. About $250 dollars later & an overnight stay, we were back in business. Brings back memories of towing the truck & Airstream.

    When ever you open the hood of your vehicle I think 1.5 minutes is minimum to look at the engine; BUT the most important thing is to lean over reach in and touch & jiggle at least three things. Trish is a CHAMPION, as she was laughing while hefting the 5 gallon gas can,- of course you did have to hold your arm way out to film the action. As usual an excellent vlog

    • @KeepYourDaydream

    • @PatrickWagz
      @PatrickWagz 7 років тому +2

      +Ken Lynch Jiggle at least 3 things, AND it is an absolute necessity to grab ahold of the oil dipstick and SLING that baby outta the little tube. And then give that dipstick a very close inspection. (maybe even give the oil a sniff, gotta see if your torque converter is running a little hot and all the oil molecules are combusting at the optimal temperature). :)))

    Trish is right. By June you be lucky to find any parking (trailer or not) at Crater Lake.
    Having been to crater lake about 5 times, I would suggest arriving late May before Memorial Day. You won’t be able to drive around the lake, it it you want to park and go into the visitors center, it will be much more accessible.

    Those yellow lines are tone heeded. The week before you were there a helicopter rescue crew had to come and lift a young man out of the crater who was in the area where your family was. He was taking photos, lost his footing in the snow and slid over the edge. The area racks up 2-3 rescues per year.

    From I-5 heading to Crater Lake there is a small road you can take that takes you to the headwater of the Rogue River. It's just a little spring that pops out of the ground from under a couple large rocks and grows to become the mighty Rogue River.

    OMG!!! I was laughing so hard when you were talking about standing there looking at the engine! I was thinking oh maybe you did know what you were looking at but I never got that impression from your other blogs. Then you come back in the truck talking about the very thing I was thinking. It was hilarious 😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄💚. Thanks for the comedic relief! I loved seeing Crater Lake (of course it was in June). It was beautiful. I can't believe you left us hanging about what was wrong with the truck. As always you do such a great job, not only on the video, but on questions you always ask everyone. 💚💚💚

    I had to laugh at the mosquito camping. I took my son one time to Bannack MT (first territorial capital of my) and camped in a tent. It was a everything we could do to get the tent put up and get in. Then spent the rest of the night listening to them buzz around the tent. Never saw it that bad before. Pretty cool area for old west stuff. You've probably heard of vigilante' s well that's where they operated. Anyway I know how Trish feels about mosquitos :-) too bad the truck broke down. Hot over here still. We have stage 2 fire restrictions because of fire danger, which means no open fires. So far we've been really lucky and no smoke from the fires. So the park is still awesome. Enjoyed the video, might even have to learn to drink coffee :-) have fun at your meet up.

    Two years ago the end of June we had to get a tow out of the camp spot we were in. Spent two nights in that spot even though we were only supposed to stay one. That was somewhere south of Bozeman, Mt. $272 later after fixing an o2 sensor see were back on the road. We have so much trouble it's almost like mother nature doesn't want us to go camping, this year was the first of many we didn't really have too many issues, the furnace didn't work so we snuggled up pretty good, that was fixed on our new to us camper last October before we bought it so the guy we got the trailer from fixed it a week ago for free. Haven't gone out to see if it works yet but it should. Helps when your husband is friends with the rv guy too. 😉 I'm still working to get my husband to watch your channel, I think he'd enjoy it, but I told him if we ever get the chance to meet up and go to a meet up I would love to be able to do so.

    So sorry that you guys had truck issues! They must be resolved since you are now in BC. We've been debating about getting Good Sam for roadside, but we have heard of quite a few on UA-cam mentioning their long telephone wait times and difficulty of Good Sam to come up with a solution; then you mentioned the extra cost because the repair facility was not the closest and I just rolled my eyes. Once again, great video! Lots of great sites and adventures but everything came to a screeching halt when I heard "rice krispy treats", my favorite! Also loved how you had Trish filling the gas tank with that heavy gas can, she's one tough cookie! As always, you guys crack me up! - Rick

    I love your videos! Our plan is to start RVing within the next 18 months; not full time, however. I am thinking that your fuel pump went out. Nowadays, fuel pumps are cooled by the fuel in the tank. If you let the fuel level get down below-1/4 of a tank is what most shops and dealers recommend-regularly it drastically reduces the life of your pump. I had mine go out at around 160K on my Grand Am years ago and now I don't let the tank get below 1/4 very often. Mine gave up on me on my way home from work about 10 miles from home...On a full tank of fuel of course.
    Keep up with the great videos. I sit my wife's down to watch you guys from time to time. Do you miss not having a place to call home, I mean a house to return to every couple of months?

    • @KeepYourDaydream
      @KeepYourDaydream  7 років тому +1

      You're right about the fuel levels. I learned that during this ordeal and probably caused the underlining issues, but the solution was simple. We'll end up buying a smaller place that we can put on the vacation rental market and use it to regroup when we're home, but I don't miss the big house and part time job keeping it running :)

    We had a travel trailer for 9 years (2005 to 2013). We often found it easier to find open RV parking than regular passenger car parking here in Oregon. Cannon Beach is one prime example of that. Now when we take a day trip in our car, it can be almost impossible to find a parking space.

  • @madmac66

    What time of year was this? Many years back, before our son was born, one summer the Mrs and I drove a Mustang convertible up the coast from CA to Vancouver WA to visit friends. We spent a night in Fort Klamath, that looked and sounded pretty cool on an old paper map (this is pre internet days). What a mistake. Just a truck stop town; general store, cafe, and a sleazy motel. Oh and a cemetery. That was ALIVE with mosquitos. We got a few steps in and got eaten alive. Your stop at White Horse reminded me f that. Is that a southern Oregon thing? We did Crater Lake too. Hiked down to the water and took the boat tour around the crater. Really cool experience, well recommended if you go back. Also, if you go back, check out the town of Sisters. Really cute old western town worth a look. Cheers guys, another great video

    When you get to Southern Washington you need to check out Ape Caves near Mt.St.Helens. It is going to be very hot (for this area) and you will need a coat for the lava tubes. You can drop your trailer at my place which is ten miles north of Portland.

    My first thought is a clogged fuel filter. I have seen this dozens of times. A clog can be like a flapper that allows the vehicle to start but shuts down when the fuel pressure pushes the clog close and stops the fuel flow. The second is a clogged fuel line and the third is fuel pump locking up. Of course there is also the possibility of iced up fuel line but that is unlikely.

      Yeah, the boys use them daily in the RV parks, but Carson broke his derailer and chain. Caleb's bike needs service. The rain messed up Tricia's bike... so the boys are using my bike and Tori's bike. Thus, the 5 of us are not going on rides. I'd get them serviced, but the rain will just mess them up again. It's a problem!

    In Oregon you can pump your own diesel. But you can't pump gasoline. One exception to that is if you have riding a motorcycle. they usually just hand you the pump to do it yourself.

    Keep Your Daydream, what happened? Why won't your truck start? That sucks the fuel pump went out. I have a 1999 Ford Expedition and it runs great! We have had a few Mechanical Problems but it still runs great!!! Wish the meet-up was in Vancouver WA not Vancouver BC!! Have a great time at the meet-up!

    What a great episode and you handled this so well. We just purchased a used F150 (just over 100K miles) to get us started. I hope I never have to endure this type of situation but if I do, I hope I keep my cool as you did but more importantly, I hope my wife and boys handle the situation as yours.

    Glad you got your truck running and your back on road. I don't know what your mechanical problem is but with fuel injection, when you run out of fuel, it requires some effort to get fuel to flow once again. Looking forward to hearing what your problem was so we don't experience same issue.

      Wait, what is the one thing that changed before the "Fuel related" problem? You just turned responsibility for handling your fuel over to an Oregonian. Troy and Eric. Yup, they'll have you coming back again. Did they have a special on Fuel pumps this week? Next week Fan Belts!
      You never had ANY problems before this when you were doing your own fueling. Just saying.

      Yes, definitely get AAA! They have so many perks. They will even tow bicycles! They have an app to see discounts near you, concierge service when 100+miles away from home, 20% off Hertz, discounted or free passport photos depending on member level... and more! We have used them recently for towing and they were quick to help! And we live in the country! The rep was super helpful and the tow driver was even more helpful on choosing a trustworthy repair shop. :) Since we used up our tows we added tow service through our insurance just in case we break down again.

    Hi guys! We really enjoy your channel, and laugh every time we watch an episode. We are just now watching season 3, and are residents of Central Point (near Grants Pass). We would live to suggest you revisit Crater Lake in the late summer and do the complete rim drive. Camping there is awesome and the Lake is even a more incredible shade of blue than you can imagine. If you find yourselves in the area again, hit us up for hiking and camping suggestions!!! The mosquitoes are not bad at that time of year either. PS every time you said Tokatee Falls we laughed so hard. Your cute mispronunciations are a source of amusement for us.

    ha ha ha!! Tok Ahhh Tee Falls is beautiful. We had a VERY tough winter in Central Oregon this past year. Truly the worst many could remember....hence, more skeeters. :-( Be sure to see Tumalo Falls in Bend. Same thing - short hike. Can walk behind it. It's near Bend.
    HILARIOUS!! "How long do you need to stand in front of the engine with the hood up?" Right? Whaaat? It's not intuitive and part of our DNA?
