Ed worked out at my gym in Manteca, California in his last years. He also lived in Manteca. I have photos of us working out together. Even after multiple heart-attacks he continued to come back to the gym (against Doctor's orders) and do Dumbell Kickbacks from the END of the rack. I wish I could post photos here ~ we got to spend a lot of time together just prior to his passing. He was very young at heart.... literally ALL of the time. Super cool dude. You could sit down with him, Google his name, click on "images" and he could tell you where he was and when the event was.... with literally hundreds and hundreds of photos. The things he told me about Arnold were incredible. As a matter of fact, Arnold would call Ed once a year just to see how Ed was doing. He wouldn't talk on the phone, he would just wait to hear Ed's voice. This is what Ed told me when he was 82. Ed was supposed to star in Franco's place in "Pumping Iron" but Ed wanted to play with the women and goof around too much, so they put Franco in there.....but they still wanted Ed as much as they could get him. The famous photo of him and Arnold sitting on the bench together... Arnold with his hands out like he was explaining something or describing something to Ed.. what Arnold said to Ed (according to Ed) was: "Do you wanna workout or do you want to work out?" Ed had so many cool, cool stories about his life. We met originally at a gas station, both of us driving Black Corvettes. Ed's Vette was much older than mine and so was Ed, but when we hit the freeway, we were neck to neck.. him in his Black C4, me in my C5Z06. Ed had no fear... no matter how old he got. He wasn't afraid to die and the heart-attacks didn't scare him. He was really something.
Thanks for this Tommy. Because you have so many priceless stories, anecdotes given to you by Ed, I believe we would all be better for it, Ed included, if you were to write them all down. You write well and I know they will be deeply appreciated and enjoyed by everyone. These storied are Golden and shouldn’t evaporate with you. As far as posting pictures here - you can do that as a series of stills strung together in a simple movie. Windows has a free video editor and perhaps someone can show you how (apologies if you know already) otherwise I could show you - easy. Ed’s never fails to give me shivers every single time a watch a vid. You could put all your anecdotes and tastefully edited pics, with music, narration etc. in a dedicated channel made by you, here on UA-cam. Good luck.
I studied Ed's posing before I ever went on stage, even for my 1st show. I credit Ed Corney for all the credit & recognition I was giving for my performances as best poser. It was his technique I used on stage throughout my career. I ALSO....would like to send my Congratulations to the CHAMP as has just been "Inducted" in the Bodybuilding Hall of Fame, Labor Day 2015! CONGRATULATIONS Eddie!
I echo every word of Rocky Sellers. I studied Ed's routines, this one in particular, and I won best presentation in the 1st contest that I actually won. I even had the Kenny Rogers song "Lady" as my music. Thank you Ed Corney the best poser of the golden era. And a great pair of arms.
This is why it's called the golden era. This routine inspired me when I competed in the 1980s. In fact I stole most of this routine to the vocal Kenny Rogers version an I won best presentation at a show in 1984. Happy days.
Ed Corney is the best poser in all of Bodybuilding. He just had something that no one else had. Even Arnold said of Ed, "now that is posing". All bodybuilders should study Ed to understand the "flow of the craft".
@Johnny Cage Not really, just that he was real encouraging. I first met him over and Russ's. I just worked out with him while I was working night shift. He liked to train at about eight AM. I would come straight from work. I wasn't able to train with him when I was on my regular day shift. Oddly, some people love working out early in the morning. Years later I worked with a guy named Rick Zumwalt, that was Sylvester Stallones training partner. He invited me to work out with them but they would work out at about six AM at World's in Santa Monica. No way was I going to do that. I lived in Chino at the time.
My cousin loved youre routine i come back to this cause it reminds of how much he loved ur posing n he jyst passed thank you Ed n this is for you Stevie I love n miss you
They aren't going to because it's too sophisticated and you need a body that has the same controll over the muscles like Ed Corney displayed here. These transitions are no joke. You can emulate frank zane, that's just studying the poses... But transitions you must FEEL.
I have been participating in and following bodybuilding since the late 70's. To this day, Ed Corney and Mohamed Makkawy are the only bodybuilders whose posing routines still give me chills. Pure art. RIP and God bless sir.
When someone asks "what is bodybuilding?" Show them this. It epitomizes the beauty of the human form at its peak, as the sport was intended to do. Corney is a class act.
Al tho ed didn't had the best body, with his posing he hid all his weak points. He was holding his pose for atleast 5 seconds! And nowadays nobody can even hold it for 2seconds
What I like the most about his posing routine is that he took his time in every pose to give his audience actually have a good look at what he is presenting. Also his attitude in his posing is with full confidence that translate with the music so well! For example his pose at @2:50! Such confidence with a very powerful pose. To me it’s a pose that basically says “I’m taking the crown bc it’s fckn over” Truly remarkable mr Corney
Ed Corney one of the bodybuilding greats. Absolutely 💯% Best 💪🏆🥇👏 posing routines ever that graced the many stages he had competed at. I remember meeting him at his very first show he was promoting in the Bay Area California. I was just in my 2nd year into the sport including competing at that time. Ed Corney was very inspirational and overall a genuine kind person. We had great conversations every time we ran into each other at the gym or at shows and he was funny too; we would be just laughing away sharing jokes or making silly comments. He is so missed R.I.P. Ed Corney
R.I.P Ed Corney, 85. He passed away on 1st January, 2019. One of the greatest known poser in bodybuilding history. He will forever be lifting in heaven.
Ed could present his classic physique with style and grace...this is how a great piece of b/building art should be presented with great artistic lines and movement
MY STEP DAD EDDIE CORNEY IS THE BEST. I LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU. POSER IS THE BEST.. AMONST ALL THE OTHER TALENTS YOU GIFTED. YOUR VOICE IS SO BEAUTIFUL IN YOUR LIFE.
Que musica y poses tan hermosas!! No sabia nada de este tipo.... pero luego de ver su rutina wow!! Me declaro su fams y es mi motivacion por encima de mis culturistas favoritos 😮
Everytime.... I just get emotional watching Mr Corney pose.... He is.. Was.. Always be a extraordinary poser.... Just memorising..... Rest well, Mr Corney.. Thank you for craft and always a legend 4 me
I knew Ed in the 70's when he was the bouncer at Mr. MaGoo's in Campbell, CA. He was a great guy. Saw him get in a few fights and he just crushed the guy's like a beer can, but one time a boxer kept moving and it looked like he was going to win, until he backed up against a car and Ed was able to crush him.
He was the manager at our gym when he wanted to be and was such a quiet nice guy. Ed Corney was a natural. I saw him pre and post stroke at the gym and never heard him raise his voice once nor did anyone around him besides the ladies.
If I was one of the judges, by the end of his routine I would have given a standing ovation, probably be crying as well. Walking up stage and shake his hand. Thanking him for his perfect posing routine and choice of music.
He is not the only one who made bodybuilding an art. Look at the posing of Arnolds or Serge Nubret.Bodybuilding back then was beautiful and epic. Nothing like todays freak show....
He was 65 in this video???They should give a sandow for lifetime achievement award.I'm just short of 52 and getting back into bodybuilding after a 10 layoff and its good to see videos of older guys still doing it it gives me the motivation to train harder.
man....that was AWESOME! I like how there was almost some kind of story, perhaps even a little sadness, reflected in the posing. I think this beats posing to 'rage against the machine'!!!

If I go out one day I want to be spoken about like this. Ed probably loved this
Wow great story and read. Thank you Sir

This song is a cover of Kenny Rogers' "Lady", in case anyone was wondering!

Thanks mate shazam is not working
I couldn’t find the song at first, I stumbled upon it today though. The cover version is by Ernie Watts in his Chariots of Fire album.

You're right. I always thought Frank Zane had better posing but since Arnold said it about Ed...

Do you know who the artist is that has covered this song? I’ve found so many others but never this one.
The spiritual side of bodybuilding! Nuff said.
completely agree

Ed Corney is the best poser in all of Bodybuilding. He just had something that no one else had. Even Arnold said of Ed, "now that is posing". All bodybuilders should study Ed to understand the "flow of the craft".
I used to work out with him at Gold's Gem San Jose in the early and mid eighties.. It was an honor!!!

What is your age?
@@Arnold_Thelegend I'll be 68 next month, but I've been into bodybuilding since about 1967.
@@benvoiles3505 Do you mean Russ Warner? I remember a weightlifting store on The Alameda in San Jose with that name.

Every posing coach in bodybuilding should be using this.

Man I watch this routine all the time. I can’t stop watching it. His transitions are so smooth and fluid...great song too, I love that sexy sax.

First time I saw this I cried
Look at how steady he is while flashing all those poses.
The Legendary "Master Poser" Ed Corney! You will be missed :)
he was 44 years old in the making of pumping iron 1974-75
Yea and this is from Mr. O 1983. So he was probably 52/53 years old here. Insane
What I like the most about his posing routine is that he took his time in every pose to give his audience actually have a good look at what he is presenting.
