My first teacher was actually a trombonist, he knew nothing about bassoon.
Some of my favourite comments I received from him include:
- I think your phrasing could really benefit from some vibrato, you probably can't shake the instrument like you would on a trumpet, but perhaps you could use your jaw to affect the pressure on the reed?
- So to get the higher notes, you have to overblow to get the harmonic series, I know its not as applicable on woodwinds, but I think its still important you practice this.
- How do you clean a bassoon? (Idk mate, you tell me, I'm like 10 years old at the time you're asking me this)
