    This is the first time I’ve seen your UA-cam channel. I have already liked and subscribed! I have a beautiful 306K in two-tone fawn and brown. It’s the older sister of the 319K. I have been able to find and purchase the full set of Fashion Discs. There are over thirty of them! My 306 travelled over 760 kilometres (about 472 miles) by regular post to reach me and required some repairs when it arrived eg retiring, soldering of motor brackets, upgrade to lighting etc). I bought a large bottle of Singer sewing machine oil and after cleaning out decades of dust and grime, oiled it until everything moved so smoothly that it was like new.
    Now it sews so quietly and smoothly and it has unbelievable strength compared to the mid-80’s Husqvarnas I was using.
    If you are able to buy a set of fashion discs (the flat ones NOT the top hats), combining them with your 319’s piano keys will give you hundreds of stitches with which to experiment. Look on eBay. That’s where I found my big set of discs.

      Where did you get your sewing machine from and why did it travel so far? Could you not find what you wanted locally? I am intrigued. I love vintage sewing machines. I am wondering what I am missing out on.

    On the 319, the top lever changes the needle position from left, to centre to right, not the bottom. The bottom lever which is numbered is the stitch width. If you have the width set to higher than one, and then reset to zero it will reset the needle to the position selected with the top lever.
    On the ZZ if you set the needle position to the left, the ZZ will start from the left, ditto right or centre. Fabulous system.
    Get yourself a set of cams. With this machine you there are 30 decorative cams, plus you can combine the stitches using the typewriter controls. Any combination of the typewriter controls can be used. If I'm counting correctly, the Singer manual for this machine shows something like 90 different stitches that the machine is capable of.
    Oil it regularly, extra oil will drip out through the "feet" on the bottom, put a piece of newspaper in the bottom of the case to catch any drips, change the grease for the hook gear (unscrew the cap to get to the gears) grease the top gears and this machine will be sewing 100 years from now.

      Thank you for this advice! I have used this as my main machine for many years and I hadn't realised that about the needle position/zigzag. I really must look into getting a set of cams although it's unlikely I would use many of those 90 stitches. Alison xx

      @@loveandstitchesstudio You're welcome. This is a great video. The 319 really is a wonderful machine and yours is obviously well cared for.
      The manual for this machine is 117 pages long and it has everything you need to know about using the machine and includes lots of sewing instructions. Here's a link to a free downloadable manual:
      www.manualslib.com/manual/1052690/Singer-319.html
      You may not use many of the embroidery stitches now, but after you've looked over how the built-in stitches can be combined, you may well find uses for them. One way or another, you'll be able to use the full capacity of he machine.

    Lovely comparison video, thank you. I obviously have a foot firmly in the Singer camp because I found myself wanting it to “beat” the Janome in all categories! 😂 Btw, the one fashion disc for which you would probably have a legitimate use is the number 3. It does blind stitches. A full set (26, I think) of fashion discs will typically cost a lot but you can find small sets of 4 discs far cheaper, so keep an eye out for the one that includes the 3. I got very lucky last week and picked up a 319K for $50 AUD (probably ~£25) in the two tone mint green in extraordinarily cool condition, complete with full set of fashion discs, variety of different presser feet including the ruffler, manual, treadle cabinet, even the original cardboard box that the motor and pedal came in! It even has the original motor belt which was a matching green, but needs replacing. Anyway, long way of saying I enjoyed your video! Many thanks

    I love my vintage 319. I have other machines but he was my first machine, he let me alter clothes in High School, alter garments while at university (I was poor and had to tailor my own clothes from thrift stores). While I have more modern machines now I cannot make myself part with my 319.

    If you had all the fashion discs and all the feet for the Singer 319k you would quickly discover that is far superior as it can sew with many more functions and it can sew anything from leather to canvas to voile and everything in between. It's book teaches you many sewing techniques as well as how to service and even repair problems . The Only drawback I find, is that it uses a different sized needle than other machines ... it has a shorter shaft so it is very important to use the correct needles.My mother bought this machine in about 1960 when I was only 6yrs old ...my 3 older brothers and I all learnt to sew on it and I was fortunate to inherit it when my mom passed away. Modern machines are very user friendly (i do own one) but in my opinion will never stand the test of time like these old machines have. from Melene Lewis

      use a modified bobing case to use regular needles

    • @melotone3305
      @melotone3305 9 місяців тому

      You can use the bobbin case for a /singer 20U and related bobbin. There are several videos on UA-cam about this. Only stick with the 306 needles if you want to be 100% original - which is a worthless persuit unless you are trying to submit the machine to a technology museum. Nobody, repeat, nobody cares what needles you used. Again, look at those videos about using the 20U bobbin case. Absolutely NO reason to make any modifications - grinding, filing, bending, etc - to anything. I've done this on two 306 models (without the piano key selector on top). Live long, and sew!!!

    The Singer is a magestic machine. I think you can alter the stitch length and width on the 725s? I'm looking at buying the 725s as I like mechanical machines, I just think they'll 'hopefully' stand the test of time...Would you recommend your 725s? x

    • @loveandstitchesstudio
      @loveandstitchesstudio  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, you can alter both length & width. I do recommend these machines, the functionality is great and I find that often people will buy all singing all dancing sewing machines and use very little of the stitches/functions. In my experience students do not quickly “outgrow” these machines either. I hope that helps your buying decision. I’m happy to answer any other questions you might have. Alison xx

    • @Sooz3112
      @Sooz3112 3 роки тому

      Exactly, that’s what I don’t want…to pay for all the extra bells and whistles-things that I just won’t use. I think I’ve only been considering an LCD computerised machine because of my ‘current’ foot injury. I just hope I can cope with the pedal 🤞🏻. The Singer is such a beautiful machine x

    These older machines were built to LAST A LIFETIME!
    Not so with today's plastic cases, gears and handles.
