That's why I simply stopped playing any kind of GTA online or red Dead online hell I uninstalled GTA 5 just because it's a shit hole full of kids with there father's credit card and grown man acting like small children it's pathetic as for red online I played for the first week no sir I deleted my character never been back since as for rockstar living you IP addresses wide open for people to find you I say you just got those poor fools shoot they stepped on my property by Tennessee law I have the right to shoot to kill

Not trying to spam but rather to show you are right on the point of the issue. However, the gamers that use botnets often have no issue DDOSing VPN connections in my personal experience.
Also, intentions aside I don't have the desire to fight the "UA-cam" conglomerate to do what you do so successfully but maybe you will be willing to help in my... no, "OUR" cause.

If Rockstar was slapped with a class action lawsuit they would get dedicated servers within the day.
It is very difficult to prove damages when the loss is in an experience or play time. Hopefully our legal system catches up to technology, but for now this is a hard issue to explain to a (likely elderly republican) judge
Vlaicu Draciel lawsuit doesn’t solve anything and you’d be taking take two interactive to court who have a dedicated professional legal team and near unlimited amounts of money, so no, Suing them really wouldn’t do anything and they’d probably never put them in purely out of spite, also suing someone takes a long time, there would be no servers within the day sadly, the process could literally take years
Also you waive your right to sentence them to a lawsuit when you accept their EULA so good luck explaining that one in front of a lawyer

They made so much money off GTA 5. The fact they didn't correct their mistakes from GTA Online with RDR Online shows all they care about is money. What's the bare minimum service they can get away with while maximizing profit. User experience is not considered beyond "how much can they put up with before they totally stop giving us money?"

GTA 6 absolutely needs dedicated servers! Not only would it fix the privacy issues with DDOS attacks. It would most likely fix a lot of issues with infinite loading screens, desync issues, etc. Rockstar is the biggest game studio out there and can afford these massive budgets for their games, and devote their development time to their online services of those games, yet they can't put in dedicated servers to improve the experience. It's terrible.

I've actually stopped playing for quite a bit due to all the bugs, cheaters, etc. Just knowing I paid top dollar for this makes me uneasy to say the least.
On his last point, instead of leaving your router unplugged for a couple of hours, keep it turned on, and monitor the traffic that's coming in from the outside. If you can log the IP address of where the DOS is coming from, you can report it to your government agency and use the log as evidence.
But don’t they spoof their iPs* it just shows a random IP?
@@jdavis6053 I'm not sure what you mean by iPads, since most DOS attacks are normally carried out by a home desktop or a server. You can't spoof a DOS attack through a proxy server or vpn, since you cant tunnel large amounts of internet traffic without overloading the proxy server or vpn.

@@jdavis6053 No, not for a DOS attack. Even if they have a dynamic IP, their ISP still keeps a log of who was using which IP at a certain time. Additionally, like I said before, you can't hide a DOS attack through a proxy server or VPN, because you'll end up attacking the proxy server or VPN.

Very great explanation of why this happens, you nailed it.. I still don't understand how a company that big at this point still uses old servers knowing how many people are playing there game(s).. I've been doxed 4 times since release and not once before playing this game, they might as well put your IP address on the screen when you're playing! I can't believe they play it off like it's not an issue.. so basically everyone should have a VPN in order to play.. completely ridiculous.

Yes I get DOS attacks on GTA online on a regular basis by cheaters/hackers, as they are so common now, that its rare to find a session without a cheater.
Thank you SlyRecon for exposing some of the corruption and incompetence of Rockstar. They made nearly $15 BILLION off of GTA 5/online, and still won't fix connection issues, nor most the major bugs in the game.... so I doubt they're gonna do anything for RDR2... so I may never buy it, as I'm waiting for them to fix it.
wish they added a singleplayer/offline mode into Gta online so i can play it without internet lol but they will never add that :(

I'm a literal nobody when it comes to "online fame" of any sort and even I've been DDoS attacked twice just for killing someone who got salty and petty. (Edit: In GTA Online)
The second one lasted for half a day. Every time I put my router on, I immediately received so much incoming data it cut my connection within a minute. That was a long damn day. :S
It's ridiculous that Rockstar, who is swimming in cash at this point, can't even bother dedicated servers.
I used to look up to Rockstar for delivering quality. But recently, that image of them has been faltering quite hard. Both because of shit like this and how they can't even balance their cashcow's basic gameplay. Oh and how every fix that benefits players in-game currencywise is delivered within a day or two, but gameplay breaking issues linger on month after month. Such fucked up priorities.

They gave you a report option...and we all know that works as good as setting up a camp in tall trees...they will not ban anyone cause they loose money. They want as many players on their servers as possible...thats why we still have animal spawn issue, because rockstar idiots will not limit the server on 15 players and solve the problem...that would mean investing more money on more servers and they dont want to do that...a multi mil...bilion company cant invest in their own servers...🙈 thats how much scumbags they are im truly dospointed and im looking to start a new game

Ironically Rockstar isn't the only company that does this. There are a lot of videos of people scaring the heck out of people on a number of online games pretending to be some warlord half way cross the world, and not doing what they say in game, then they will start naming the user and their address. It's kind of a prank but, it's quite obvious that Rockstar isn't the only company doing this when many other games, including the last Ghost Recon game in particular people were doing that prank in. There isn't any other way they could get that kind of personal information so easily if said company wasn't doing it.

I've got a bit of experience in cyber security and i will state the following:
Since your primary convern is the fact that you are being DoS'ed I would suggest to disable ICMP in the inbound rule of the router. This is only a first precaution. If you have logging enabled on the router you should be able to see the logs that should you what type of DoS are you taking (ICMP is my guess for script kiddos) , maybe your ISP will be able to provide a few logs for this if you are not . Remember, if they can see your IP adrress, you can see theirs, so I would go further a bit and blocking them (if you don't want revenge ;) ) as such you will get connection losses in GTA V but I think it's better than to stay without a network for a half a day.
Furthermore you have mentioned that your router stops fuctioning after the attack, have you tried removing the input voltage cable (dunno the name / not english myself) and putting it back after 30 seconds? That should be plenty of time for the capacitors to discharge.

So so true. This is a great video. I’ve been concerned about this for months. I play with my son who is preteen aged. He has had adult players track him down and send messages saying they know where we live etc using our IP address and they have sent death threats for defending himself against the common griefer posses. Rockstar is asking for a lawsuit if/when something actually happens that can be proven.. thanks for the video!

I used to use my phone as a router to counter the DDoS attack by running my home wifi through my cellphone while using a vpn on high performance mode with the privacy settings set to maximum and developer options enabled so I can monitor the power consumption temperature of the phone and the GPU and CPU lag just in case
I've always had crappy internet, but I've had no idea rockstar online games had this kinda P2P type connection where ur IP address gets leaked. Now I'm having second thoughts playing online

It’s a numbers game, a huge issue for Rockstar seems to be the players who grind (like me), non paying customers that get to endure all of the issues of Rockstars system, that were conveniently and undoubtedly chosen to present obstacles to potentially paying customers. The income is there because the players are there, so if there is no financial incentive to improve the game, than that means the logical choice is to do little or nothing about the technical quality of the servers or the game mechanics itself. Whatever servers they use now it’s not good for the grinding, progression oriented player because there is currently no reliable way to overcome the largest obstacle which is another player at moments where you are at a disadvantage.
one time i was in gta online and met a modder, at the time i was quite curious about what mod menus can do so i asked him "What powers do you have?"
and they said "many things, *even able to trace an IP* "
I play this on xbox and me & a friend of mine what we do is when we realize the server is going funky, we go around looking for the person who is affecting the server and we keep going at them until they leave. Works almost all the time

One thing for the ppl that think about buying a VPN for a PS4 and even for playing this broken Game, as i did cause ppl booted me for using just normal stuff in the Game they didnt like or they cant handle. Keep in mind if you think about buying a VPN this weirdos just boot every other friend of you and just chase you 20+ vs 1 Player, or just stress the whole Lobby to just disconect everyone even the Guys with a VPN. Dont buy it for that reason, just my Personal experience. Also if you get jumped by this people over recent Player List just block them on PSN to stop them jumping and booting you.
Thank you for addressing this issue, i have been booted offline over 50+ times probably more since i started playing RDO. Many people i know have also been IP banned because of this on-going problem.
I hope that Rockstar watches this video and considers fixing this because i believe this will destroy Rockstar Online games if allowed to continue

Dedicated servers would also greatly help with the modding issue on PC. Right now, whatever the client does is true since there's no server to check, so they can just teleport around, spawn in animals, and use unlimited explosions and there's no server to check if there are any errors with that.
When i play Red Dead Online i always get disconnect from the servers.The most frustrating one, was doing a mission, when i was in the final cutscene, i got disconnect from the Rockstar Servers. Now, i gotta do the mission all over again.
Wouldn’t turning on your VPN when going online mask your IP address so no other players know your location?

there are 2 types of ips static and dynamic, some isps use shared dynamic ips between users, a static ip is the most vulnerable because you can't change it unless you contact your isp and you need advanced protection for your devices, a dynamic ip could be easily changed by restarting your router, the shared one is the most difficult one to hack because it is used by many users at the same time so it's harder to reach your device, but the downside is you can't forward ports for games and some applications because if a specific port is open it'll be open for everyone using that ip, and the ping is a little bit higher on shared ones

So So So disappointed from Rockstar They Have rushed Red dead so much I remember being so addicted to read dead 1 online spending hours and hours grinding Gang hideouts in Mexico and just enjoying myself for hours and hours on end knowing the next lvs you could get new weps and new horses even a zebra donkey I couldn't believe my eyes you could even have a ox as a horse and that kept me grinding and grinding away no Gold to skip 85% of the content or payed to win ways just good old fun and enjoyment same goes to gta 4 endless hours of driving around on gta 4 online no shark cards no flying ops mark2!! …………… Just good old endless fun I completely understand they need to make money but fuck me they have made 2 dames gta 5 and red dead 2 that have become best sellers after the night of the realise..... Shark cards and gold have ruined these games over the years and I'm like yourself I love Rockstar games to bits by far one of the best gaming company's out there today but to be at there Level of following and greatness and the last 4-5 years they have turned so lazy and seem to just not care about the people who have given there company the money to grow and make these kind of games There's nothing I like more then coming home from a shit day at work and logging onto gta or red dead but then to be blown up my flying bikes and stupid shit. Then to log onto red dead and have 0 animals and nothing to do then to grind moonshine its so boring and it hurts me deep down of how lazy they have got look at gta 5 and red dead story modes 1000000000000x the best story's I've played to date and how much time and energy it took me into this story of love and care that I have to Rockstar but it comes to online and they ruin it I don't understand they must see all of this negative feedback and take a step back and realise fuck we need to do something and quickly. if I worked for Rockstar I would fire so many people and get My focused teams to get motivated and put passion into there jobs like they used to they need to start realising without us the people that play there games there nothing and its such a huge shame to seem the company I love so much crumble bit by bit and the worst part is there letting it happen and its such a shame I really hope they sort everything out and they get back to how they used to be and this part of you explaining with the ip addresses its truly shocking as I said before they have turned lazy a Rockstar 4 years ago would never ever let this happen it really shows how greedy company's have got for money and have there games are taking a huge tole for it Great videos man very sad to watch all these videos and really makes you realise of how much they don't care and give you some robot reply when you voice your concern for them via a Rockstar ticket I really hope they pull there finger out there ass and make gta 6 the game that everyone wont leave within a couple of months..... again great video sorry to vent my stress just very annoying they don't seem to understand lol....

I couldn't agree more. And it's freakin sad it has to be this way. If I didn't like the game so much, I would have stopped playing month's ago. But I still play in a futile hope, that it will be better one day. Though I might be dead due to old age at that point!!

Servers can turn out to be costly for them but the bare minimum they can do, is have some kind of proxy so that connected players don't speak directly to each other.

I recently too had to contact Rockstar Support. It was a problem in GTA Online and the support I got was so bad and incorrect I had to find a solution on my own.
After writing to them more than 2 times on the same unresolved issue, they just started sending me random guides on how to fix problems on games I didn't even own. That's how little they care.
It's pathetic that they can make BILLIONS of dollars, be one of the richest developers on earth and still not buy dedicated servers for their games. This needs to be general knowledge. It's the only way to change it

I had a similar issue where I contacted rockstar support about red dead online and they responded with an automated message about gta online and after writing back to them saying its about red dead online and has nothing to do with gta they responded back with the same message as before
