Great video, I installed a new shift motor on my 1993 Explorer using your video and it worked. The only advice I would add is that when I first tried to install the new motor the triangle shaft would not align with the matching hole in the motor. I connected the power to the new motor when it was uninstalled to check that the dash switch lit up and the new motor worked. After that proved successful I tried to match the shaft and hole and they fit perfectly. Thank you.
Again many thanks for all the advice and help.. my son is coming around on Saturday morning to assist with procedure u have recommended.. again many thanks.. keep up the great work love the simplicity of your content.. 🚗🚗🚗
Yo igual lo hice en una Ford Explorer trac 2008 reemplace la grasa que estaba dura y seca por una nueva y funciona el 4x4 y se quito el error de la llave inglesa
Hmm... maybe they really are T15 and I was wrong about the T20? You made me curious, I'll check later today as I have a spare motor somewhere in the garage.
I was just mentioning it .. maybe it’s different on other motors if the have been changed.. anyway I tried the motor and fixed it as you video explained.. when I put it all back together and went to the dashboard and pushed the 4x4 button it worked 👍👍 but when I tried the low range button NO success 😢😢 my question is .. u mention in the video as to the diameter of the replacement washer pipe u used as being 11.5 mm in diameter is it possible that my new replacement piece is bigger in diameter as I think it measured at 13 mm diameter would this make a difference??? Again many thanks for your reply and help.. 🚗🚗🚗
First, be sure you are in N, not Drive, not Overdrive, not Park. Also, Low range must be engaged only after 4x4 is engaged. The fact that the piece is larger can influence the low range because the low range position is at the end and maybe the motor can't reach the end due to the larger bushin. You can ask someone to press the button and you can stay under the car or near it and try to hear if the motor is working from 4x4 to LOW RANGE. If you hear the motor working after someone presses the Low Range, it means that the bushin is too big. If you hear no sound, try to put the car in N and start the engine. If the car will not start it means that the NSS (Neutral Safety Switch) is dead (mine was) and that is why you can't go to Low Range. Another option is to ground a wire from the 4x4 module and see if the Low Range will engage. If so, it means the NSS is the problem (the "start the car in N" test is much simpler). I would first try to start the car in NEUTRAL and see if it starts.
@@Zvoneru Hi again ,, As always thank u for the information, so as mentioned tomorrow I will be doing the test, so now the question is where is the NNS located and how do I fix it if that is possible...

If you can, try to get under the car and listen if the motor works when you engage Low Ratio. If it is easier for you, you can contact me on Messenger.
Rubber fuel hose. 8mm internal diameter, 11mm external diameter. After I put it on, it streched to about 11.2mm. Used it before on another shift motor and worked like a charm.
hello, because mine when I want to activate does not activate any light of the traction of the 4x4 and low. how do I determine that the motor that I repair is defective? could you tell me.
Almost everytime is the shift motor, but there are ways to check the button or the 4x4 control unit. I will come back with a more detailed answer in a couple of days (I really lack time right now).
One simple test that you can do before taking of the shift motor is to test the shift module. Here is how is done: - on the left side of the trunk, take off the plastic that covers the jack and the rear window washer fluid - next to the washer fluid tank is a black module with 2 connectors (actually 3, but the 3rd one is on the other side, harder to see) - remove those 2 connectors (5-pin and 8-pin) - underneath that module, you'll see a small white button - turn ignition to RUN - press the white button: if the red led flashes 4 times the module is ok; if the red led stays on, the module is bad Please remember: in order to do this test the 2 connector must be removed and the key should be in "RUN" position (does not matter if the engine is running or not)
Really nice video. Thanks from sharing! My 95 Explorer Sport Trac 4x4 has 2Wd, Auto 4wd (I’m assuming is like 4 high also), and 4L. From park on neutral it goes into Aut4wd and will turn off no problem. But 4Low won’t engage and sometimes I play with till it does only yo get stuck in 4lo 😂 would tjgis be on motor side or vacuum side?
Salutare, imi poti lasa un numar de whatsapp sau ceva? Mi-am cumparat si eu recent un ford explorer identic cu cel din video si nu cupleaza fata deloc. Mulțumesc

So I finally got around to doing this and thank you for the video ,,,, alas the torx screws on my motor were T15 tamper proof.
Hmm... maybe they really are T15 and I was wrong about the T20? You made me curious, I'll check later today as I have a spare motor somewhere in the garage.
Checked again and the torx screws are T20 so probably yours were changed.
Thank you for the video!

What would be a good length for the fuel hose?
@@alexanderwebb680, 4-5mm would be enough. It has to be as tall as that metal stopper you'll put it on.

I don't have any experience with the second gen. It could be there motor or even the NSS (Neutral Safety Switch).
If it goes in reverse but not in drive what could my issue be....thank u
That is clearly a gearbox issue and I haven't got there with my knowledge. Search the www.explorerforum.com and you'll find some answers.
How do I test the module on a 4x4 93 ranger
There should be o little button on it. A white one. Press it and see how it blinks. I'll make a short video soon.
I've made a short video with the self-test option on the module: ua-cam.com/video/V99SM9v6ix8/v-deo.htmlsi=tJXx8hJrMoL5yAe_
