I love how he noticed his High School Sweetheart but chills and lets her notice him and when she does, she bugs out in shock. I always loved this video from when it dropped.
1983 I I was 18 yrs in love now we have 41 yrs together I could not live my with out her . The wost I had of bro being murder and lost moms beside that. Could do it no more. Hope we go together when the lord ask for soul? THIS BRING THE BEST I EVER HAD IN THIS LIFE TIME.
Paul Flattery I remember when this came out. I showed this to someone yesterday who knows Phillip but doesn't remember the song. We were in awe of the cinematography, who wrote this?
THIS was Philip Bailey's HOT Debut Song & Video as a Solo Artist that was Played on Hot Tracks in New York City, on Friday Nights in the Golden 80s, on ABC/Channel 7. I Wanted them to Play this Video Every Week; it was My Favorite.
🎉Not taking anything from my favorite group earth, wind and fire , Phillip Bailey was definitely the voice of the group his high pitch sounds Really could get your attention. Group like 60s 70s 80s sounds Stylistic, Enhantment, Dramatic ,Blue Magic and many more power group ❤ that Era music Richard Shackelford
@@revdrweathers: Yes! To this day, this is One of my All-time Favorite Videos as well. And I was a Sophomore (10th Grade) when this first came out.. Loved it Then. Loves it Now.😁🖤🖤🖤😁😁 Mr. Phillip Bailey. Sir, You Are in My Opinion, Still ,One of thee "Baddest' Voices in Sweet Soul Music! GOD Bless You Brother!🖤🖤🖤
Powerful video and song. She kills me in the end when she says, "Philip Bailey, do you still love me". She has those eyes and that look that could stop the world at that moment. LOL So powerful. I love the concept of the video. She became a movie star. His career halted by an injury so he became a taxi driver. Life tore them apart but they still loved each other.
I love this video. I don't want to sound weak, but it touches me deep down inside. The authentic high school photos make it "real" and not just a video.
Man idk exactly what age I was as a kid when I use to hate hearing this song....and it seem like Donnie Simpson would play it on Video Soul every night.....now its 2022 and havent heard this since the early 80s and now Im a 48 yr old grown azz man shedding some tears watching and listening to this video thinking of my deceased mother....listening to music like this compared to what ive been listening to for the past 15 yrs definitely made me wish I would have had a better understanding and appreciate and respected more of the music back then
This was a time where you could relate to the song and or the video. Today the only way you can relate to a song you had to have killed someone or getting ready to shoot someone or treat a woman bad. Back in the day these artist sang about love and how to be in love. If anyone builds a time machine back to the 80's let me know I'll be the first one in line...
I love this video, its kinda biographical..life goes on, but a man never forgets that special WOMAN. I KNOW what Phillip is singing about! This song cam out when folks sang about LOVE ya know!
this was one of my favorite songs by him. too bad we really don't have music like this anymore. for me, being a true rollerskater this is the kind of music that we look for.
+O. Valencia You might enjoy rollerskating to 'Mostly Mozart', a funky version of symphony #40, by Walter Murphy--the same composer who discofied Beethoven's 5th. There's also the British band Delegation, songs like 'You & I' will move your skates...guaranteed. : )
Freshman year in college. I ran the 100...9.2. Beautiful how she recognized him n both played it cool. The ending is always good, no matter how many times I see it.
Years ago I used to waitress in a club that had a big screen for playing music videos. When this would come on, I had to stop and watch the whole thing. I love the story, especially the ending. . .so romantic. Tried to find this video for a long time, was so happy when I finally found it. Thanks for posting.
Eugenia Wright was the woman in the video. She passed away of pneumonia just three years ago. She played in Penitentiary II and was on two episodes of The White Shadow. She worked in public relations after her short stint with acting. Rest in Peace Eugenia.
I ran into my ex recently, I didn’t know who he was but he recognized me. I noticed he was very friendly and he knew things about me. I just thought he was being friendly. As I was leaving he stopped me and continued talking to me, Then I realized who he was. We still love each other 20 years later.
OMG!!! I thought this was a forgotten song and video! People thought i was crazy when i had told them of this video... Explained it to a tee... They said it never existed! It just never made it in the charts... There were lots of great videos back in the 80's.... Hot tracks, Friday night videos, Rubix cube, atari 2600, Highland park handball + Basket Ball, running with the crowd, adidas, puma, nike.... What a time to be a kid.... what a time to be young.....
I can't remember the exact year this was out but I was in high school my junior yr 1984 watching video soul with Donnie Simpson and seeing this video great voice of Phillip Bailey has !!earth wind&fire need I say more !!!
This is one of the best videos, the story telling and emotion are GREAT!. The look on her face at 2:43 is priceless! In a big city the chances of running into a soul mate are low (Unless God puts you position). You know it was Love because she came back. Goes to show you that money is nice, but God/Friendship/Love will give you happiness.
I've watched this video a hundred times, but I never noticed until now that there's a crack in the glass of the photo at 0:12 running directly between Philip and the woman. A very nice touch to make this video into a story. The crack signifying that they split up. It ties in nicely with the story of this song. Very nice.
I was already a huge Philip Bailey fan, but because of my love for track & field, this song really hit me in the feels! Back then I was a junior in high school with BIG dreams of running in college and going to the Olympics.
A huge Philip Bailey fan. I was a big fan of this video when it first aired on VH1, MTV back in the early 80s. Being a airline enthusiasts, I enjoyed the classic United Airlines, trademark brand in the back drop at LAX.
MAN I LOVED THIS SONG I REMEMBER CRUISING WITH MY CUZ IN HIS T-TOP CUTTLASS SUPREME WHEN WE BOTH FIRST HEARD THIS AND THEN IMMEDIATELY WENT TO THE RECORD STORE AND GOT THE ALBUM THAT'S RIGHT ALBUM.
THANKS for Posting this Video Naoto Hosoya ! I just read this and that is so sad. Not the only "character" in the video who isn't living still. One of the other taxi drivers was played by David Jove (aka David Sniderman)- another director I was working with - he died in 2004.
I love, love, love this song and video! Philip, singing this song; pierced your heart and you knew that your misdirected love, would come back to you! Just hold on and keep living! I love him!!! 🎶💞🎶
The part of this video I remember was he was sitting at a dimly lit counter outside somewhere singing. This is that video, so happy to have seen it and am now old enough to understand its meaning.👍👍
Naoto 1960 I have been trying to remember this video for so long, it seems that all the major catalogs don't want to. Thanks for the memories...life was still good back then.
Thanks for posting. If anyone is interested, there's a seller on eBay that's selling this CD for less than $20. This is a must have!! And there's extended versions of 2 songs. Check it out!!
Everyone, lets get back to the way God intended mainstream music to be percieved. This is beautiful art at its subtle best I LOVE IT ALL. With me we all will remember that just the way it is!
I have been looking for this song for years now! I am so happy that someone posted this video. It's a very beautiful song that brings back such good memories for me. I can't believe the song is unavailable.
I REMEMBER THIS VIDEO FROM HOT TRACKS USED TO COME ON FRIDAY NIGHTS ON CHANNEL 7...........LOVE THIS SONG ....NEVER GOT A LOT OF RADIO PLAY ON THE BLACK STATIONS IN NEW YORK.......
I remember watching this video in Switzerland when i was on summer break from college. I loved his voice and the song. Didn't realize that he was in my favorite bad EWF. Unfortunately, this song was overshadowed by Easy Lover where he worked with Phil Collins.
Thanks for the post. This was probably the first video I really loved. Maybe my favorite of all time. When the video matched the song. Had a story to tell. Kudos to the music and the video.
I love how he noticed his High School Sweetheart but chills and lets her notice him and when she does, she bugs out in shock. I always loved this video from when it dropped.
This is when you have someone deep inside your soul that remains with you
Phillip baby do you still love me ..... more than you ever know.
Great song. Phillip and his classic smooth vocals. The video also narrated a great love story. I KNOW. I can relate.😅

I produced this. Directed by Jack Cole. First video to incorporate dialogue not on the record. Won a Billboard Video Music Award.
Wow! Are doing more videos.
No, Jack is semi retired and I have been doing TV Special since the 90s.
Paul Flattery I remember when this came out. I showed this to someone yesterday who knows Phillip but doesn't remember the song. We were in awe of the cinematography, who wrote this?
The storyline is taken from a Harry Chapin song "Taxi"
The DP was Tom Grubbs, I believe.
I was in high school when this came out and still love it today. Class of 1988 in the house!

The happy ending Phillip REALLY got wasn't in the video's end - it was BEHIND THE SCENES AFTERWARD! wink wink :D
I love this video. I don't want to sound weak, but it touches me deep down inside. The authentic high school photos make it "real" and not just a video.
Remember when a groove was a groove, and when a video was an extension of the song?

My favorite part is when she asked him Phillip Bailey do you still love me?
Philip Bailey, do you still love me?
Woman, more than you'll ever know!
THAT'S THE BEST PART OF THE VIDEO...I USE THAT MY DAMN SELF😁

I've got to get this track. I completely forgot about his first solo effort. My collection does include his Soul on Jazz tracks which are very good.
Lawdy! It's been a long time since I've seen this video! Brings back memories of teenage years!😁❤
