Ad Lib(erty): Connecting Musical Improvisation to American Aesthetics, Commerce, and Politics

Using the most fundamental tools (the 12-bar blues musical model, a Comic book about music and law, and the Constitution of the United States of America), students will immerse themselves into a universe of ideas that reveal fascinating connections between deeply familiar musical structures and principles presumed to govern everyday citizenry in the USA. By the end of the course, students will produce works [through their artistic medium of choice] that demonstrate their exploration of the extemporaneous.
