2024 Lexus GX550 Overtrail Plus.....3 Week Ownership Report from current Land Cruiser Heritage Owner
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 чер 2024
- Today we discuss my initial ownership impressions on my Wife's brand new 2024 Lexus GX550 Overtrail Plus. As a current Lancruiser 200 Series and 5th Gen 4Runner owner it's been interesting to compare it to it's Old School siblings. The big question is will it live up to Toyota's past reputation of producing some of the most reliable vehicles on the planet.

Info about the gas tank was helpful. If it’s an overland trim, that’s a frustrating development.
Can't wait to get our GX OT+! Been waiting quite some time for a Nori Green 😄
Good choice!
Yes please give an update after your cross country trip. Would love to know the real life highway mpg, among other things.
I had the GX 460 and I average 16 MPG.
Smaller tank, less weight. Smaller tank, less range. Less range makes people not so hesitant about EV ? Still like an ICE. I would rather tradeoff the tech for a larger fuel tank.
Thanks for the video. Much appreciated
Great video Why2K! Greetings from Sunny SoCal! I'm 3 weeks into my OT+ and enjoying the rig as well!
Couldn't agree with you more on the corneal camera ( my term)! Jeez almighty, good to hear that feature can be turned off!
Safe travels to Montana! Subbed!
Thanks so much! You can turn the camera off in general settings (sprocket), driver assist, driver support. Then there's 2 buttons to turn off the driver monitor.
Looks nice. In my radar. Watching this engine issue roll out and hopefully get resolved.
I’m watching it too, as I have one reserved, but I am pretty hopeful that it’s not going to be an issue with the GX. So far, it isn’t included in the recalls-they seem pretty narrowly-scoped to certain years of Tundra and LX600 static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2024/RMISC-24V381-8150.pdf and it’s been in the LS 500 since 2017, which seem to be pretty highly-rated still from JD Power & Assoc.
*no wood wheel 😢 Honesty if Toyota won't import the LC300 GRS hopefully they'll be a LX600 with the same 3X lockers as the GRS but with the genuine/classic lexus lux. CAN'T sit in a new lexus and have it fell "less lux" inside vs the GX460, LX470 etc*
Looking forward to your update, I have ordered a black Overtrail (we only get one type of OT) here in Australia, also concerns about the fuel tank size, will probably buy an extension tank.
I think aftermarket is gonna get on that sooner than later. Hopefully yours comes in soon!
I don’t understand this engine. Barely if any fuel savings, questionable reliability. If you load up with people and gear and actually go on a trail, mileage/range is going to plummet even more.
Love your honest review, I’m sure after refinement the three-point 4 L TwinTurbo will be the most reliable engine out there. The over trail definitely seems to be the trim to get, which is what I’m looking forward to in the winter.
The power of the engine is much improved so I hope so!
Congrats and enjoy it in good health. The board certainly approves. It is a looker for sure
Dude you couldn’t be more wrong on the fuel tank capacity. It’s NOT 15 gallons, it’s 21.1 and that’s official from the Lexus website. I also confirmed from other reputable long standing. Websites. How come you wouldn’t do your research and find out exactly what is the capacity or specific numbers are? sounds like you’re just guessing while you’re making the video.
interior build quality seems to be significantly inferior to the lx600. Didn't remember the 600 having any wiggles in the shifter or excessive uses of plastic. That thing was one of the most solid vehicles ive ever felt. Hoping they fix the V35a-FTS issue soon!
No reason to put premium fuel in that vehicle. Even if the manufacturer says to. It will run perfectly fine on regular gas
Thank you. I’m trying to decide whether to get one.
A few comments. I’m disappointed to hear how poor the mileage is coupled with a small tank
It may be your mic, but it sounds relatively noisy on the road and, at times, the ride looks bouncy on the video.
Ride is a little bouncy, but kinda to be expected with body on frame. Wind noise was due to cross bars on roof rack which we’ve since removed. Tank is actually 21 gallons after further research but doesn’t get you far at 14.2 mpg avg in city. I think it should do better on highway it’s rated at 21 mpg. We shall see.
What recording setup do you use? It's really great and crisp quality all around!
Insta360 Go 3 with detachable camera that has a hat clip for POV 👍
@@Why2k So good! Well done... and thanks for the video review😁
It took Toyota forever to put big tanks in the tundras in 2016 at 38 gallons
“Got it for my wife” “Let’s drive it on a residential street and highway” too funny
why
Not sure I understand
Did you PPF the GX? Windshield PPF? Create your Lexus App account without incident? Talk about Tailgating...The F250 grille is hiding! Need better shots of sand bar parking lot. yes try Camera option set to ON for Traffic Jam. Not in ECO drive mode when starting from a stand still?
tank 21.1
voice command to get to seat controls?
No PPF. Lexus app was easy for my wife to setup Not in eco. Haven’t tried voice command for seat controls :)
HA you're not wrong with the KIA comparison. I demoed a GX last weekend, I have a 22 Defender and am thinking of trading it in for a GX 550 before the warranty expires.
Edit: Btw google says the GX550 has 21 gal and my Defender has 23 gal. From my experience the tank isn't that small and I use it as a work vehicle.
Getting around 14.2 avg around town….range showing around 280 when full. I can’t get more than 13-15 gallons in it with 60 miles reserve. So that seems about right. I’m used to getting 18-19 gallons in an suv when the gas light comes on. Regardless of the tank being 21 gallons I think a 330-350 in town range would be better, maybe their range estimates air on the side of caution making tank seem smaller than it is. Regardless, 23-26 gallons would be a nice improvement for extra cushion. My Landcruiser gets around 300 total range and lots of people do extended fuel tanks in them. 21 gallons isn’t that big when you factor in the economy is worse than my v8 cruiser around town. Hopefully on highway it will get the quoted 21 mpg. Overall it’s a good truck though and things should get a little better mpg wise once motor fully breaks in. I would imagine the Defender drives more “carlike” being that’s it’s a unibody?
The road noise is quite loud. Are the front windows acoustic (double glazed)?
Yes they are. The noise is from the cross bars on the roof rack which we plan to remove.
@@Why2k Ah makes sense. I hear OEM roof racks/bars aren’t always the best to begin with.
The board approves
So we’re all in?! ❤😊
Better watch out for the bearing issue in the 3.4 turbo
How is the HVAC for the backseat without the overhead A/C vents in your heat/humidity?
Haven’t sat back there to comment. People who have sat in back so far haven’t mentioned anything yet.
Also a Florida resident, and why Toyota stripped this feature out of the Overtrail still stumps me. Of course, it’s in the old GX460, even with the off-road package.
@@CeeJay591 that is the one concern for me living in the desert SW with temps in the 110 range.
@@MedEng801I have a black Overtrail base with moonroof delete , yesterday was 101 with a heat index of 114 here in Ohio and the backseat was comfortable with the A/C on full blast with recirculating on.
@@CollinAlbert-zt6cc thanks for the update, that migrated concerns about the kids and pets staying comfortable
How bad are those tires noise on the highway?
This is the only concern I have on the over-trail.
Don’t even hear them.
GET THAT RECALL IN
Nice the engine is still running.
Blown engine and shoty quality and less we forget transmission issues. 😮😮😮😮😮😮
YOURE DRIVING A TIME BOMB
What sort of gas mileage have you been getting?
14.2 avg so far all in town driving no interstate.
Hoping they fixed the problem when they made the GX implies they knew there was a problem & didn’t do anything about it or notify anyone until RECENTLY?!? SHAME on them if that’s the case…
Small tank & bad efficiency aren't convincing.
ITS A TOYOTA WITH A LEXUS BADGE
Sad day when the lexus quality goes to this (crap) questionable engine, squeaky plastics, buttons cave in, fingers going through lmaoooooo etc. sad sad sad
I agree with you. It's Beautiful car, and I was thinking about buying it, but I'll pass for now because it's missing:
1. Third row seats don't have enough room. Why not give it the same third row seats as the TX
2. When third row seats are up, there is not enough cargo room.... look at TX as an example. It has 20 cubic feet
3. Hate the bump in the center seat
4. Toyota Sequoia has more luxury material than GX, I feel like I'm being cheated
5. KDSS should be on all trims
That’s why you never rush to get a new model right away. Wait a while to see what the common issues are
@Mr.International82 what do you consider to be awhile?
His comparing Offroad SUV with a tesla and BMW 😭😢
Just expect to get 10 mpg lol
More like 14 but it’s ok 😅
So every reviewer I've seen ordered this for their wife. Do any men drive this car?
I would drive it but already have a 200 series Landcruiser :)
Only the men who wear dresses.
@@JoBiatchSuch a killer post from a ‘dude’ named, “Jo.”
Why so much plastic?
Thought there was recalls. Engine failure
Tundra recalled. Not lexus gx
OT+ review…on pavement 😟
That color though....the green and earth are the only 2 colors the car looks good on.
