Never thought I'd see a well-researched retrospective on "Son of Kong!" I had no idea that Willis O'Brien's wife killed their children and herself during production! Insane!
Willis O'Brien deserved better. Also , Son of Kong is the only live action movie where a Kong character fights another mammal kaiju. I know in King Kong lives he meets a lady Kong but she wasn't his enemy. I'd like to see more mammalian kaiju in future movies.
I have always like this movie. It deals with the results of King Kong and trying to move on with ones life and that you can never really go back to the old neighborhood. The actors were great and closure to whatever became of Kong Island was answered.
We're okay with big special effect driven spectacle, but love us some character driven storylines to go with those effects! Looking forward to underground god damn monsters 😆
I saw Son of Kong for the first time when I was in 5th or 6th grade. I stayed home from school that day because I was sick, and Son of Kong was the morning movie on one of the local TV stations. Sure it's not as great as the original Kong film, but I'd still rather watch it than the Peter Jackson version.
Great video as always. With whether or not Godzilla IP will remain with Legendary being uncertain, we could see a new son of Kong soon as the direction of the monster verse.
I have a warm spot in my heart for "Son of Kong". Helen Mack and Robert Armstrong show real chemistry an give a good preformance in this film. Unfortunately I have to say Willis O'Brien wasn't at his best after the tragic murder of his two sons. And the production values just aren't there. You will note most of the Skull Island creatures are in reality recycled from the Earlier "Creation' or rejects from Kong itself. Never the less Koko is very well done.

This movie isn’t bad. A quality entry in the King Kong franchise. Agreed...the characters are more defined. Willis O’Briens’ work is phenomenal.!
Better than all the remakes, including this year farrago
I think sometimes the story from behind the scenes can out do the story on the screen.

I like your indepth review and background of the movie. Sometimes it seems studios set up their films for a box office disappointment.

There is a persistent rumor that Legendary is making a movie called “Son of Kong,” but it’s not confirmed yet.
Part of me wishes that Peter Jackson April Fool's Day video was real and he did remake this.

Always loved this film, too bad it gets a bad rap. Its focus on the human characters, especially Carl, has always held my attention.
