I own two Manix 2 XLs. I have installed titanium ball bearing cages in each of them. The Manix 2 XL definitely takes the same size ball bearing cage as the Manix 2.
Great to hear they are going or are available. Go ahead and show the catastrophic video then the well made one. We can learn as much if not more when seeing the problems another person has. Just a thought. Look forward to hopefully seeing both. Stay safe and keep your blades sharp.
I just got my first Manix a little over a week ago and right from the start mine developed play and very soon thereafter became loose enough on one side that every time I touch it it shifts and makes a little ting noise. I know it’s a nitpick but it’s literally the only thing keeping this knife from being one of if not my favorite. Especially since my micarta scales came in earlier. Now it’s just the lock. So, as soon as I saw the notification and the title of your video I pulled up Flytanium’s site and ordered me a brass one. I just Hope now that I’ll be able to get the damn thing on once it gets here and not screw somethin up to the point of having to send it off and pay someone else to cleanup my mess. Haha. Anyways, thanks for the heads up merman! 🧜♂️👍😁😆
Try taking it apart in a large plastic bag. Or maybe a trash bag that you can see through. It'll keep anything that goes flying from getting lost.
Gorgeous knife BTW. 😍👍👍
I do it in a big bowl. I'm notorious for losing parts.
If you're following this video I've found a few things that can go wrong that aren't explained. First the scales have a flare and you'll special tool to remove the scales properly although you might be able to remove the scales normally. Second when putting the blade back on you can actually just press it against the D screw part and slowly twist it from behind until it slips in. Third and this last one has happened to a few people but I'm not sure if it's a consistent issue but with the ball cage it takes a long while to get the screws tension just right but it mainly has to do with the 2 screws on the back and not the one that controls blade play so if the lock is getting stuck alot try loosening the screws on either side and play around with the tensioner
These make a huge difference. Bought 2 of the blue Ti and 2 of the Silver Ti. The coloring of blue looks great.
On the lightweights, the scales are riveted together so you could if you want to go through the effort of drilling out the rivets and ordering the hardware that fits.
where?
TheScottyp1 “where?” What do you mean?
@@Nozz_959 i meant where did u get bhq didnt have it but i went to flytanium site and got the blue ti
TheScottyp1 oh gotcha. Yeah I got the cages from the Flytanium site as well. I ordered a bunch of hardware from McMaster Carr to find the right screws to replace the rivets in the LW and see if it will work.
@@Nozz_959 good luck with that lol.
Man I'm glad I picked up a manix2 recently , very cool thanks metal complex
Got it fri morning And it is well machined . And pin that brakes on plastic one . It is titanium. My plan is to use the stock plastic one and keep the titanium as a backup
A super fantastic upgrade from Flytanium! Sounds like filming the Manix 2 is the elusive fish of the sea.......All great pointers!
I will get a video up. I HATE taking it apart... but I've figured this $%#@er out...
@@metal_complex You are a trooper and we all appreciate this!!!
Just ordered one . Was on the fence. Will put it in the box as a cheap insurance policy. Thanks buddy
I broke an omega spring once and a spring in a BM OTF knife. It kind of turned me off from any spring lock system but I’ve been thinking about a Manix 2 lately because of the design
It's a great knife. I have three different versions and an xl. The manix and Shaman are my two favorite spydercos.
The plastic actually doesn’t bother me never had problems with it I do like the titanium look more though
Ha! I ditched me assembly video also. Too many swears.
Mine was so bad. It was like watching someone fight a tree with a wiffle bat.
FlamQ Dbltap I’m a professional comedian and Irish. Comes naturally.
An update it shipped out the same day . That is all ways a good sign
Thanks Man. Looking good! I'm pretty sure you're first, to get one on video.
I started to go a bit crazy, when seeing the thumbnail pic. Before I watched the video. Wondering why you didn't go with the copper cage.
When you swap to the new inbound scales. Are you planning on switching to satin hardware, to sorta match the Ti cage?
I wish I had known you were going to get different scales for this one. I would have sent you a special little kit. Which includes a ceramic ball and a slightly weaker spring.
👍🔪🍺😎
I'm going to keep the black hardware (just to emphasize the ti cage). And that's interesting! I didn't know they made a ceramic ball for this!
I've got all kinds of tricks you don't know about, @@metal_complex.
😁
I've got your copper clip about done too. I just to tumble a finish on it. 👍
Awww. I wanna see the bloopers.. 😂😂😂😂 don't cut yourself!! 👍👍👍👍👍
Great video. I was on the fence about this but I think I’ll get at least one now.
Somone please explain to me why you need balance in a folding knife? Its not a balisong.. Not a sword.. Its a folding pocket knife for crying out loud
To me, it's a feeling of control. When a knife is balanced, it feels lighter, and easier to manipulate. Might just be my imagination.
Who the hell keeps thumbing down your vids?? How could you not like an upgrade vid?? OOOOH WAIT!!!! I think its your wife!!! Were you suppose to toss out the trash instead of upgrading your Manix!?!? lmao!!! MYSTERY SOLVED!! LMAO!!! Great video my friend..
Lmfao 🤣
Spyderco probably makes so much money it’s kind of infuriating that they chose to cheap out over a very small piece of metal that would have made the manix 2 that much better out of the box
well ill be... order for my bladecenter exclusive, and my first, manix2 is coming my way now.. ordering costum hardware @bladeswelove... might just ad thud sucker to.. great timing bro 🤘😎
Will this void the warranty?
As far as I understand, your warranty stays intact as long as your disassembly doesn't cause a failure. I.E., if you strip a screw or break something while taking it apart, it's voided. If you get it back together and everything works fine, you're ok. Check with Spyderco to be sure though.
I never worried about the plastic cage until I watched this.
Oh shoot! These look dope.
Rockscale Design makes awesome Ti scales for the Manix 2.
i guess you can‘t put it on a lightweight manix because they‘re pinned shut? ;)
Watches video... Looks at owned stock manix 2... orders new cage and brass scales immediately... waits for epic knife build...
Lol!
Can i use it in Q ball spyderco????
I will probably do this upgrade but I think the price ($40) is outrageous . For a small part your spending 40% of the value of the knife to replace a .10 cent part. $20-$25 seems reasonable. Dude must be taking advantage that NO ONE else offers this item.
I think $40 is fair. Most people will be ok with it.
It's a very delicate machined part. The most difficult to produce of the whole knife.
Interesting didnt know they were making those
Is that titanium cage the gold anodized one?
Did you grind the jimping at the end of the handle? What did you use? Thanks much!
No it's still factory
You should definitely edit the disassembly video down into a 2 or 3 minute blooper reel lol
That's an idea...
Did installing the titanium button make it easier to close?
I know they take a bit to break in h it does it make it smoother to close the knife?
I have 2 manix’s and the button is stiff as hell on both of this can make it easier I’ll definitely buy it.
Ty:)
I'm wondering the same
No. It's pretty much exactly the same
@@zackcollette9406 I find it way easier to open and close in my experience.
The XL drops like butter and the normal Manix 2 it’s no way as harsh on the fingers and it does make it a much better experience all around to open and close compared to the plastic.
Is there a way to disassemble a manic 2 lightweight and out custom scales on it?
I honestly dont know. Sorry
Oof 40 bucks is a little steep especially because I’ve never had any problems with the black plastic and never heard of anybody else having any problems
$40 is more than I want to spend. I'd be happy with an aluminum cage at probably less than half the cost.
The copper or the brass is 34 dollars. The machining is cost of cage . If they could be cast the price should be lower .
Nice.
Lol, slicey dicey also will not show his video of the disassembly... coincidence??? 🤔🤔🤔
He messaged me about that lol. We both had the exact same issues 😅
@@metal_complex 😂
Too bad they only made so many, I can’t find one anywhere.
I'm in the same boat, I wonder if they'll be making more.
Sweet...
BB lock on the manix 2 makes it lack detent, blade can be thrown out without much effort
