This is definitely in the top 5 of my all time favourites. What a joy to listen to this again! I'm showing my age now but I went to see these in concert with my family as a child. It would be around 1978.
Darts were the first group I ever saw live back in 1978 and they were just fabulous! I'm really happy to be able to see them again this coming September as they still play a few gigs every now and then. I can't wait because they really are great - even now 40 years later! Please do check out more of their songs - different members of the band do the lead singing! Unfortunately however, Bob Fish - the lead singer on this song - died last year after a short illness. 😥 Griff and Rita got married last year after all this time!
The animated backing singer in the shiny suit is called Den Hegarty and he has a crazy deep voice and a crazy personality to boot, he's more prominent on some of Darts other songs such as Come Back My Love, Duke of Earl and Daddy Cool.
The mid to late 70's were an interesting time as far as pop music goes. There was a plethora of different styles of music coming to prominence that you probably wouldn't have imagined. Sure, there was punk and disco, but there were also some interesting outstanding acts who, seemingly, managed to get attention despite their style of music being, let's say, slightly less than current as far as pop music went. Certain niches arose that the record buying public took to. Darts was one such group who made doo-wop popular again, for a year or so at least, and they were truly appreciated and regarded as a top-tier artist at the time. But, like everything, it didn't last too long. Which was a real shame. It was music from an earlier time, but it felt so damn modern at the time.
I always thought the best thing about Darts was that you couldn't tell what was coming next, because every one of the singers could sing lead!
Loved Darts since I was 13 love seeing them live with 5 original members xx they’re just amazing

*Den Hegarty!
He's a Psychology Professor!
@@jamespasifull my terrible typing, yes he is Den Hegarty, he was always my favourite member of the band, they had some surprisingly good songs
Den Hegarty solos on some great tunes too, I can recommend 'Why I Cry', especially the updated, longer version!
Wow! I'd forgotten about this song and group....brings back so many memories.
Nobody else seems to have mentioned it - this song was written by Griff Fender (Ian Collier), on the right.
So chuffed the someone is finally reactig to this brilliant group so thanks
This song brings backs memories of when I was a kid. RIP Bob Fish, an absolutely amazing enterainer and singer.
