Great tips! This is so amazing! Wow! What a awesome display of perfection! Absolutely love your creations! Keep up the good work! Thank you so much for sharing!!!…
Interesting insight Chelsea! I think for me most often I’m not sure if a painting is done when either something bothers me but I don’t know how to fix it or I’m just niggled by the feeling that I should be a better painter! Usually I decide I can’t be a better painter than I am today and I call it done. I think one thing people can do is prioritize their goals. Is it more important to finish a painting and gain experience? Or more important that your paintings are of a certain quality? For me I figure the more experience I get it will help me get better and I would rather paint than not. Although I know plenty of people who would rather not be creative than do something that was imperfect. To me that’s a brutal and unpleasant way to live! Just because something isn’t perfect doesn’t mean it’s worthless! Human beings are incapable of perfection! Do the best you can and move on to the next one.
Amazing work Chelsea, I just love watching the placement of the different colours and the textures it creates. I have learnt a lot watching you paint. Thank you 🙏 🤩❤️
Absolutely hypnotic to watch you retouched the painting and talking through it. There is more than talking about art in your speech, there is a lot about mindfulness and reflection. I newly follow your channel to learn about oil techniques and must admit your advice are really worth listening. Great painting of this beautiful cat. I wish I could render the same quality when I paint my dog.
Love your delicacy and variation in colors of the white fur! Truly great to see how you build the fur up in such a dynamic and still insightful way. Wow!
If I couldn't view the video, the audio alone was full of invaluable timeless encouragement and information on the greatest decision any artist battles with. But the skill, impressionism, and choice of everything completely hits a home run into the grandstand any artist wows over. Bravo!
Great video! Volume was just fine for me. Sidenote: you can manually set the camera focus on the paper that way its not constantly focusing back and forth on your hand and then paper.
I so appreciate your calm, intelligent presentations. You don’t continually use umm and ahh instead of real words. I signed up on Patreon and plan to do a Chelsea Lang video blitz this weekend!
More excellent advice (and another brilliant painting!!). Thanks, Chelsea. Should anybody be interested, Degas once said that a painting is never finished: you just stop working on it. Mind you, Degas had a private income (as did all the French Impressionists, some more, some less); so, he could please himself with whatever he painted. That said, Degas was a master, of course.
I’m currently finishing a piece that I started back in early April. It was in “time out “ for a month or so before I started to working on it again. It’s turned out to be one of my favorite paintings.
"This painting is good enough." I love to hear you say this since it's what I say to my paintings all the time...btw, your cat painting is beautiful.!!
Your mental game angle on the painting process has helped me a lot. Do you think you could address abstract and nonrepresentational styles in a future video? I have both problems you mention towards the end of the video (both overworking and also moving on too fast.) How do I identify a problem if I'm not painting from a reference?
beautiful work , chelsea!! and really interesting insights to think about .. i'm norakag .. so nice to have watched this beautiful painting come alive 👍👍
Hello Chelsea ... as an "animal person", I am very impressed by the character that you have created in this painting; I've owned a white cat just like this one and you've nailed it. As credit to your artistic skill, you don't appear to have used any guidelines at all, and have created your image with large brushes that I would certainly struggle with to produce any detail. I notice in your other video clips that you seem to prefer larger brushes ... or maybe I just try too hard to achieve detail? Altogether, this is a very nice result. As Bill Nolan suggests below, you could set your camera on manual focus and perhaps take it back a bit to avoid repetitive focus pull. I've gained some good insight from this clip; clear and concise. Thank you.
this was incredibly helpful. i do have one question though. i am working on completing my portfolio for my program. i need almost all my pieces to pass so i may graduate. this pressure + not having teachers to ask about work with is making my work tight and honestly stressful. how can i combat this while knowing they are up to par? thank you so much.
Your cat ils so alive and mastered but the shape of the support is quite bothering me ; why did you choose It ? You are so sharp ans helpfull and well organised, I admire your cool and your kindness and huge talent : thank you for all 😄
I just keep painting until nothing bugs me about the painting. And, yes, I take a break when I’m starting to get tired and sloppy about thinking about my next brush stroke and color choice.
I love this kitten. Especially the soft pink ears that seem to have light shining through them:) As always, your insights are much appreciated!!
Watching you paint tells me that PATIENCE is one of the top 5 qualities to have when painting!!
Great tips! This is so amazing! Wow! What a awesome display of perfection! Absolutely love your creations! Keep up the good work! Thank you so much for sharing!!!…
...it's finished when it doesn't annoy you anymore.
Than never?
I love the light and transparency of the silhouette
love the videos love the commentary!

thank you, your brush strokes and shades of colors amazing. Pushing me to my painting board to change my approach and style. thanks 👍
Absolutely love that kitten.
I appreciate the way you suggest different advice for painters with different tendencies.
Very insightful, well explained, and practical.
Great video! Volume was just fine for me.

You when it’s finished when you’ve captured the mood and the feeling you were after when you started the painting.
I so enjoyed watching you paint this beautiful kitten. I’m struggling with getting lost and over painting. Thank you for the tips.
this cat's eyes are incredible..thanks for sharing your process.!
Beautiful loose strokes. Intensely watched. Now to put in work as I am too tight. Love the cat.
Gorgeous!
Wow just amazing... love your big strokes look... painterly look is more amazing than realism look... really inspiring
Beautiful.....at first your shapes were so flat and undefined but you obviously knew where you were going with it......great talent you have
Fun to watch this video, especially how you painted over and over on the cat's neck!!

Beautiful! Many thanks for sharing your great talent.

I like how you paint with words and the white cat too.
Hey, I don't know if it's just me but the volume output is really really low
It's just you I think. It's totally fine for me and a few others I can see.
it's a little low for me, but can hear well enough with volume up all the way
Yes volume is full blast still hard to hear.
it really is comparatively low
The volume is significantly lower than the add volume before, but it is loud enough when I turn it up.
HERMOZO 😍
Maravilloso.
I love your work and thank you so much for the valuable thoughts ...
Very realistis cat, super!
beautiful work , chelsea!! and really interesting insights to think about .. i'm norakag .. so nice to have watched this beautiful painting come alive 👍👍

Thanks beautiful
Wow... super ...
Wow!!!!!!
An artist once told me:” A painting is never done. You just know when to stop.”
Your cat ils so alive and mastered but the shape of the support is quite bothering me ; why did you choose It ? You are so sharp ans helpfull and well organised, I admire your cool and your kindness and huge talent : thank you for all 😄
for me i can tell that my painting is done when im already satisfied when im looking at it hihi
Молодец, я бы так не смог.
I think of this video often
I just keep painting until nothing bugs me about the painting. And, yes, I take a break when I’m starting to get tired and sloppy about thinking about my next brush stroke and color choice.
What medium is this?
Appears to be oils the way the paint blends.
The Easy Answer: It's finished the opposite way it's started. No more brush strokes! 😂
I meditate your drawing
nice
What about tips or a video on how to paint from a terrible reference photo? How to make it look better
I am wondering that, on what are you painting on? It's definitely not a canvas .
Panel ?
Your never know she doesn’t seem to answer any questions at all
I usually know I’m finished when I get the feeling I want to toss it into the paper shredder. Good days and bad.
nice video but hate the camera blurring effect
You are DIFFERENT.
You Dnt wait to the Paint its dry..!?? I dnt like that tecnic... i paint and i use Acrilic Like Oleo...easy to dry And more
You never know :D
You'll know when it's done
...then you'll take it back off the wall from over the fireplace and paint on it again. Then you'll know... again.
I dont get the stroke of dark under the chin...????
I would have liked to watch you painting the cat… but your camera kept going in & out of focus & it was blurry for a lot of the video ☹️
poor audio..
Audio is too low. 👎
Its good but i hate that people call everything a "peace "..ugh
