Great story. As this information is censored in China, it would be great to see videos like this embedded with Chinese subtitles. It might not make a difference, but there's still a chance it could reach some people and help them wake up.
This is not censored in China, China belatedly exonerated him and posthumously awarded him the May Fourth Medal. He is well known and respected in China. However, he was not a whistleblower in a traditional sense. Here's what happened. On the morning of December 30th 2019, the Wuhan CDC emailed a notice to medical workers in Wuhan warning them to watch out for a new respiratory illness, a disease we now know as COVID-19, but was at the time the nature and cause of the disease was not fully understood. There was speculation, worry, that it was SARS (a far more deadly illness, fatality rate 8%, last seen in 2004). Dr Li (an ophthalmologist working at the Central Hospital of Wuhan) saw the Wuhan CDC notice, and at around the same time he received a medical chart of a patient treated for COVID-19, that chart mistakenly diagnosed the patient as having SARS. Alarmed, Dr Li sent a message to his friends on a private WeChat group (friends he met in medical school). He incorrectly told them SARS was back, his hospital had treated 7 "SARS" patients, he also asked them to keep the information secret. He forwarded documents to the WeChat group 1. The public Wuhan CDC notice warning Drs to watch out for a new respiratory illness, 2. A photo of a patent's medical chart that misdiagnosed the patent with SARS (Dr Li circled the word "SARS" in red pen). 3. A video showing the CT scan of the patent's lungs. So he mistakenly told a few friends that SARS was back and told them to keep it a secret, nevertheless people spread his warning. His error made people pay attention to the Wuhan CDC warning, but it was more by accident rather than whistleblower revealing a secret. Also, a few hours later Dr Li corrected himself, told his friends that the patents did not have SARS, it was a different coronavirus, but it was too late, the panic had started.

This is why science, must always take precedence over politics and religion. We may be from different countries, different cultures, but we are one human family. RIP Dr.Lee 💔
And yet there were so many people in the US who had the information and still didn't take it seriously. My aunt was one of those, and she died of covid.
Someday there will be some comprehensive movie series about that, as it happened to Chernobyl - hopefully at a time when official lies and propaganda will be a thing of the past…
Wait, you actually think there will be a time when officials don't lie and propaganda will cease to be employed? Good luck with that, I'm far too old and far too cynical.
Thank you for this documentary, from an old Doc in retirement. Back in late January of 2020, early leaks and the first, fragmentary reports of Dr. Li’s plight galvanized me. This was when the Trumpie “administration” was in full denial that there was any problem, at all. I began shouting online, at the top of my lungs. 1,086,675 official COVID fatalities later (four times the global mortality rate!), I haven’t really stopped shouting, since - Omicron is mutating at astonishing speed, and emerging Long-COVID data have me seriously alarmed. Like the concomitant disease of the last Great Pandemic o century ago (Encephalitis Lethargica), the individual and social costs of Long-COVID threaten to be enormous, and may burden us for the rest of this century.
6:50 It should be pointed out that the PCR test used to diagnose SARS-COV-2 did not exist before Jan 12th. After that date China started diagnosing massive numbers of hidden (mild / asymptomatic) COVID-19 infections via PCR, before Jan 12th Chinese Drs were only diagnosing severe cases,
Right so the CCP wasn't covering up the pandemic like the NYT claims. It was due to lack of information because it was a competely new virus no one has seen.
@@finnmcginn9931 PCR method testing existed since 1985. The PCR test for covid didn't exist until Jan 12th 2020 since you need to calibrate the PCR machine with covid's genome.

At the beginning of the pandemic I heard political commenters in Taiwan indicate that the reason why it took so long for Chinese authorities to disclose the facts is the Chinese negligence on transparency and a deeper assumption may be the officials on a higher level wanted to take it into control themselves and brag their achievements, kind of a conflict on political interests aspect.
It's things like this that make us a species seem hopeless at times. Those with power just care about saving face, reputation, and most importantly their grip over people.. Not caring if it costs the lives of others.

They've already did that. Also, that would hardly constitute challenging authority. The current power base is Biden, and NYT is politically aligned with him. Thus, shouldn't you be asking them to do a visual investigation on the Biden administration's handling of the Covid-19 pandemic? Wouldn't that prove that they are free and impartial?

The last almost 3 years, what happened to our Chinese society has been beyond any of our expectations for the worst. Maybe nothing has really changed for the government, maybe the pandemic simply revealed what our government really is to the ignorant majority of us. Now I have been abroad for the longest time in my life, I do not even dare to thinking about going back to school breaks. It's scary. The nightmares I've had, about being in forced lockdown, about doing mandatory covid tests on a daily basis, about fences and walls, about police arresting my family because I chose to speak out... How pathetic it is that I only get to see the last days of yours from a foreign media that Chinese people could not access to. But at the same time, I thank you people like you and Dr B. A legacy of heroism!!! Gone too soon but never forgotten.
@@finnmcginn9931 There’ll always be different versions, but time normally dusts-off a lot of stupidity…
一路走好,感谢还记得他的人
6:50 It should be pointed out that the PCR test used to diagnose SARS-COV-2 did not exist before Jan 12th. After that date China started diagnosing massive numbers of hidden (mild / asymptomatic) COVID-19 infections via PCR, before Jan 12th Chinese Drs were only diagnosing severe cases,
Right so the CCP wasn't covering up the pandemic like the NYT claims. It was due to lack of information because it was a competely new virus no one has seen.
Thr PCR test was invented in 1985. Anything else you'd like me to fact check for you
@@finnmcginn9931 PCR method testing existed since 1985. The PCR test for covid didn't exist until Jan 12th 2020 since you need to calibrate the PCR machine with covid's genome.
Thanks Ms. Xiao to reveal the last days of Dr. LI Wenliang. Both of you are heroes to help to destroy such an evil party eventually.
we should always remember dr.li who speak the truth, and i cry for him.
an amazing piece of video-based journalism
he is a hero and will always be
I stand with Dr. Li. 🇺🇸
Never give up VI. Thanks for the revelation on the good doctor.
Thx Dr. B for ur story.
Thank you.
Incredible brilliant brave work here outstanding thank you so much for sharing and for making this video
Thanks for making this fact-checking but still touching video! Salute to Dr. B and other brave healthcare people in China!
This is very well done. It's enraging that the CCP silenced his warnings. We should never forget that.
He died twice for his country. So sad.
He become so brave and have to be taken into consideration a hero for exposing the truth of the way severe covid is.
wonder what his reaction would be 2 years later seeing the destruction the virus caused
thank you
excellent video and research
A bit reckless and insensitive of nyt to not obscure his voice at all? Like it's so easy to identify him if one of his colleagues watch this video.
Who is the narrator for this video? They did a great job.
RIP HERO !
The graphics and editing are top notch!
The narrator, however, needs a pay cut XD
This man is a National Hero who was unjustified as a trouble maker of false information till later on it coast him his life and only then after dying of contracting covid - 19 his unjust country made him a National Hero. Shame on you China, Shame on you. The world or your people will never forgive you, a little too late. You could've done this man a hero so much better and at the same time improve your world relations but again you dropped the ball. Wonder why? Could've it be that you knew you knew about covid -19 and let it get out of control? Reguardless, you failed the world and you will never earn our respects for a while again. It's not your people China, it's your leaders. Stand up and do something Good people of China for the good of human kind, we beg you, take your Country back. It's only a few men, and it's billions of you.
Dr Li. A true hero. A HEALTHY SOCIETY HAS MORE THEN ONE VOICE.
Yes indeed.
so sad - RIP Li Wenliang. My god the AIR quality. We are doomed
its fine karen, the average global temp used to be higher before, all without human intervention. its called we were in an ice age
RIP Dr. Li 🕊🕊

A hero that gives his life for truth.
Rest in peace to Dr. Li. You are a hero to many.

Great job.
I report before during amd after all events
It's things like this that make us a species seem hopeless at times. Those with power just care about saving face, reputation, and most importantly their grip over people.. Not caring if it costs the lives of others.
The background music is very annoying.
Come on, for a better future!
RIP
beautiful video dear very nice beautiful Hospital
It's so weird that UA-cam doesn't auto complete Dr. Li's name on the search.
Coming from a medical family makes me so angry and sad to see the collateral damage from politics
great reporting team and great work, Thank you for what you did for Chinese people. The truth will be eventually known by the Chinese and the whole world.
China's silence of two people, young men, a long time, plus... two years ago
He's a real hero.
Haunting
An honorable humanitarian who cared for people more than his career.
Being a hero in one regard wouldn’t necessarily make him a “humanitarian”.
rip a legend
Sadly, most chinese have forgotten how CCP silenced Dr. Li Wenliang.
Thank you for this video.
WeChat monitor users’ voice for ID, is it not dangerous to Doc B by disclosing his voice in video?
I was thinking the same thing. He also revealed identifying information.
the voice had been modified
Great, now do one about Trump and how his mishandling led to millions dying. Show people that there's really freedom of the press in America.
American press has bashed him multip times already, unlike Chinese media that pretend that nothing is wrong with their glorious country
i dont think only trump could save the millions by predicting this virus s outcome .. you may go search fauci s dirty dozen..
Dr Li Wenliang, since you left, it took me some time to see, what kind of lies and what a facade that we Chinese people were living in. I want to live like you and speak about truths until the day I die.
RIP Dr Li Wen Liang🕯
用汗流浃背的眼睛微笑
I got the vaccine and 2 booster shots and still got Covid 3 times, maybe my symptoms weren’t as bad as they could have been if I hadn’t gotten the vaccine. What’s interesting is each time I got Covid the symptoms grew less and less each time. By the 3rd time I had Covid I barely had any symptoms was comparable to a mild cold.

I hope one day the world will find out the truth, who is accountable for the death of the millions.
I remember watching this happen slowly over the news that I was watching over before coming to Korea in 2020, worrying and trying to take care of the people traveling with me and not knowing if it was going to blow up or not. Then we got to Korea and all that China hate in the U.S. happened and family members had no idea that this had happened in China just a few months ago. No one knew, because no one cared to look if it wasn't happening in the U.S.. It was so.....heartbreaking and it ruined how I saw every person in my life. Apparently, I'm the only one in my family who cares about what is actually going on in a crisis. Can't trust anyone else to care enough to look and see. Can't trust people to even care what is true and what is not, let alone to tell the difference between the two. Scary, that they don't care if it is a lie, that people died just to get that information out there.
Somebody definitely needs to go to jail behind all this!!!!
While his death is tragic according to Wikipedia he only told a small group of people in a private chat group about it and then actually told them NOT to tell anyone else.
False. He told it publicly.
@@sadikadhaan4595 This is what Wikipedia says:
*Li asked the WeChat group members to inform their families and friends to take protective measures whilst requesting discretion from those he shared the information with; he was upset when the discussion gained a wider audience than he had hoped.*
So it seems he did NOT tell it publicly but my initial post was also slightly inaccurate.
Not saying that everything on Wikipedia is 100% factually correct though.
May he rest in peace.
@@aperson2730 anyone can edit information on wikipedia
@@yl6743 Except this is confirmed through multiple sources. It wasn't Dr li who shared the post and he did tell the group not to share this info.
That's why narrator said he never intended to be hero. He just wanted to tell his friends and family. That's it. I don't blame him. It's human nature.
