It's not all negative in Columbia SC. I'm from NY and moved here from Florida. I live on the NE side over by Sandhill and I love it. Don't get it twisted these boyz will do something to you in The Met but only if you go looking for it.

Id rather be there than in the Portland Oregon area, I got news for u's.. I will make the move. I might not live here in this part, but I might too. I dunno. I just dont like excessive whiteness like where I am now. Id pick living with blacks + I been considered a person of color here too. Its been debilitating. Its broke me down so Columbia looks good to me.

I came to Columbia by myself. I just moved though. I’m from Detroit, which is a bigger faster city. Columbia is slow paced and small. I didn’t know anyone. The few people I met from going out, workin (briefly), or runnin errands were cool. I worked for law firm there. They was cheap, but okay people to work with. This isn’t the city to turn up in or get rich through employment. The most I made was $17/hr and I have a Bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctor (Law) degree. That’s why I left. I don’t think it’s dangerous. I am a young female and moved there alone without knowing anyone. I’m not saying it’s 100% safe. Like the other comment said if you look for trouble you’ll find it- that goes for anywhere. A lot of time people are afraid to go to new places because they scared they don’t know anyone. Moving to new places is not as bad as people think or what the media portrays. Travel, move, jump off the porch- that’s how you’ll grow. The south is totally different from up north. I’m glad I had the opportunity to move from my hometown to experience another culture. 💯
I want to come to Columbia as a matter of fact, I live in Portland and cant stand it. Its too white also. I dont like ppls attitudes. The south is calling me at this time.. just dont know when I can get down there. I will move where its more black if I gotta. and I feel colored, treated like minorities in this fkn place I'm in now so.. I mighta used this as practice incase I end up down low in Columbia. Wait and see.. I just know with covid, a lot of white people are exposing themselves and its something I dont wanna be around. Plus the protests night after night. Havent met new people. Its been bad 4 me. Im just at the point idgaf.. ill move where blacks live if I need to. Been told growing up, oh dont go here dont go there but nothing awful has ever happened to me when I went to black places. I can name more white people have done to me. I had people planting seeds in my head since I was little though about it. to keep me in a whiteness I didnt want. I've grown to hate the north though, so much I will give the deep south a shot as well, I got nothing to lose I feel.
Now for jobs, im sure someone can get something, even if u wont get rich. Just something to get by on.
Oh and I have an uncle in the Detroit area as well. Been in like Lansing area for 3 decades or so. I considered on a mild scale moving there but I dont think I would. Its cold too.
