As someone who just finished their degree and dissertation, the best advice is to delete social media completely - makes you realise how much more time you actually have
And how emotionally stable you can be. When I was on social I was aggravated all of the time. Still am, but the people on UA-cam are not a part of my life so it's a lot easier to just say "ugh, I'm gonna go do something else". I tend to scroll until the bottom of the feed because their alithogram wants me to consume crap. The bubble they've got me in is horrific.
Ive really been trying to do this!! Unfortunately its harder than i thought, i didn't realize how addicted i was to my phone till i tried not using it for like, a day, and i couldnt stop feeling uneasy and uncomfortable the whole day, most of the time i would just daydream in class and think about what i would do when i go online again-- 😭
may not be ur usual vlogs - but this was something that i needed recently, helpful for me for sure! listening to other people's recommendations on how they do stuff is always so interesting to listen to, thanku jing!!
thank you!!! there aren't enough videos like this that cover academic style writing. what is just as important as the information and evidence you are using is the way that your essay is contributing to existing academic works, so i really appreciate your explanation about trying to decipher this 'conversation' between authors.
Hey love 🥺 I saw your comment and STG I had the same issue and I had a babe help me from insta and she’s been the best thing ever. If you’d like I can link y’all
As a university student and intern, the Pomodoro method has been a game changer for me lately lol. I realize I’ve been practicing it for a long time subconsciously, but this time I’ve actually started to pay attention and put it to use to help me with my studies. You’re so right, in college the essays look a lot different. It can be hard to formulate one especially when you’re used to the 5 paragraph mold. Lots of tips and tricks in this video that I will use/consider in the future.❤Great video, thank you!
I love literally ALL of your videos! Your vlogs are my favourite, and these are super helpful. As a current high-school student working hard to bring my overall average up before my last year finals. I love more creative work, so essays tend to be a little bit of a struggle for me. Not only that but motivation always kicks me! Because, like you, I work best under pressure or a time limit. These tips are so helpful thank you!! 😊
This was the most helpful video I've seen 😭!! Honestly, I'm terrible when doing my essays and I'm in my first year of college but hopefully, I will do better 🫡 !
Hey love I had the same issue too until I came across a certain babe on insta that helped me with my essays🥹 the best decision I made!!!! MY GRADES ARE THE BEST!!!
dude you are literally a life saver. I'll be studying at oxford all year starting in october, and I've been super nervous about acclimating to the independent reading/essay aspect of the tutorial system, but this has been so helpful! I write essays in a very similar way to you, but the addition of the charts was absolutely genius and I'll definitely be stealing that lol
all the best for the rest of your studies jing! really enjoying following your journey 😊 also really wish you'd NEVER leave the UK so you could keep vlogging about life here. wishing you so much luck!
wow this was super helpful! thank you so much! writing essays scares the heck out of me even as someone who has finished their undergrad, and going into my masters this will be very very helpful. i usually take notes but by the end they’re so cluttered and messy that sorting through them has always been a pain. this is so uncluttered and simple yet very effective.
I'm currently studying English linguistics(and will be studying language technologies and computer science) in an university in Korea. I've been asked to write some essays in my electives and majors, and it has been quite difficult for me as I'd never done this before.😅 Thanks for providing so much helpful information!!
This is basically how I write when working as a freelance writer. I try to avoid the 2,000-word assignments, though (LOL). I also do more handwritten notes, just because that's how my mind works... and I'm kinda an old lady. But, I compile my sources (which I normally get to choose as a paid writer), take my notes, let the argument take form, create my basic outline, and then type it all out! I can do a 500-word article, complete with research and note-taking in about 2 hours if it's a topic I'm familiar with. I've had some real beasts, though, where I accepted a lengthy assignment on a topic I knew NOTHING about, which added several hours of research to the task. Great video, with really sound writing advice!
omg we have the exact same method of tabulating notes (the tri-column table of author/ main argument/ notes) and same workflow from tabulated notes -> dot-pointed essay structure -> writing it in prose in separate google documents!! it is incredibly cool to see that the technique i thought i coined for myself is actually one that's also recognised by very successful students :)
This has just totally changed the game for me. The tables you created are so coherent compared to my current notes as a first year (aka a total mess.) Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for your sharing, I’m also an outlining person but still struggling with figure out the correct method, glad to actually see the useful tips
Thank you so much for this video it is so helpful!! I hope you can do more videos like that to help us (or at least me)! A lot of people here talk about studying and all but don't really show you how to do it so thank you again ❤️
you never know how happy i am to encounter this video of yours. i feel like taking notes like all those study-gram people is not really my thing and i'm still wonder what methods i needed and this is what i need!! i love when you devide reading-main arguments-my notes, i think thats really useful especially for someone who study social science because we need to come up with other/our argument (at least for my preference) to understand the topics better❤ my questions is how long did you usually spend to make notes in 1 subject?
A literal life saver! I’ll credit you for any success I find in my classes. I’ve always struggled with writing and found myself lost at where to start and how to go about the process, but this is very intuitive and makes so much more sense than the 5 paragraph method. The 5 paragraph method is alright and all but when it comes to a 10-15 page essay it just doesn’t cut it anymore. Truly, you saved my grades!
OMG, this is really helpful! Thank you very much for sharing these tips. I'll start implementing your techniques, and I have a feeling they'll save a lot of my time.
bro these tips are actually life changing😭 i also struggled with the 5 paragraph mold that teachers drilled in my head💀 when i got to college my professors literally were concerned for me lmao😭 tysm!!
Hi I’m currently still in high school and I’m wondering if you have any tips or helpful ideas for someone wanting to be a politics or international relations major?
Also, it makes me feel much more confident in my essay writing skills as an American who always ignored the standard 5 paragraph essays we learned. We have very similar styles of note taking! I will definitely try and utilize the google doc table feature more.
These kind of contents are what I want for uni students bloggers 😢 I want to know the real assignments and how each students accomplish them. thx a lot for sharing your tips!!
I literally love you so much and you're one of my fav youtubers an watching your videos give me such a happy and warm feeling when watching them I don't know how to explain it lolll but I hope you have a good rest of your day/night :)
I literally watch your vlogs everyday while having breakfast, it sort of have become a habit now... even if i think of watching some other videos, I always end up jumping on to yours, lol..........
Ive seen so many study tips videos but this is literally the only one thats helpful - thank u sm sis. I also find it way easier to have notes on readings than having to scramble around to find things in the articles themselves. The only thing I hadnt done was to add a summary of the article (which I will do from now on !! ). But uh, if anyone has extra tips for humanities please share
i missed watching your videos, i was so happy when I saw that you made a video that I love you so much that I came across your videos somehow and got to know you 🍥💌🦋💖
Oml these are my life death and breath frfr im dying im over 6 months behind and I have 2 months if that to finish even with my extension and its killing me frfr. This is back breaking tysm for this frfr I have adhd but most people don't believe me (?) for some.. weird reason? it really doesn't make sense to me I have no idea why. So yeah work never ends even on the weekends your videos give me life frfr bc I'm not put together at all even though I'm a star student. You're a role model frfr🙇 I'm gonna go die now to try and cram 11 assignments for today. I wish I was smart and talented like you! But tell me; do you worry that with this (strange) AI thing looming on the scene with all of the massive writing ability that so many say it has/will have, that even your *very best* writing efforts will be made to look amateurish by comparison? I don't think I've ever had someone explain how to write a humanities essay in a better way than this before lol! Thanks for your tips, they were very helpful
Could you talk a bit more about how you create an outline? I'm trying to help my kid but my method (I write down all my info on 3x5 cards, then rearrange the cards on my desk until I perceive a logical flow) does not seem to work for anyone but me :)
I can't STRESS enough how helpful this video is, like literally. The step-by-step and specific examples really made it easier to understand. I hope you post more content like this. Tips on being strategic, productive, disciplined, and more. 🥹
hi! YO I've never had anyone explain the difference between marinating or distracting breaks, but the distracting breaks I take have been the bane of my existence. excited to check your playlist out!
Engineeeing student here, partially chosen major because I can never put my mind to write essays or sit down and read. But the concrete workflow you use to write college essays makes it feel a lot less pie-in-the-sky lol. Maybe I should try a humanities class in the future and actually not fail it again 😅 The Pomodoro method is cool too Ill definitely implement it in future studying as well. Thanks for the video.
Wow, this was super helpful! And if anyone has tips of how to translate this system into more STEM sciences like biology (thankfully we have very few essays) then I would be forever grateful!

About the essay- the best way to do is 4 paragraph essay, 6 lines for introduction, 8 for development 1, 8 for development 2 and 7 for conclusion
