Not every call up needs to be undefeated
Most no, but if you are building to Ilja vs Gunther, then it is bigger to have him go in undefeated. With that said, I agree with Jey winning. But, Ilja should have been left out of the tournament. They did it with Bron. that way Bron doesn't have to lose.

Yeah there should be a case by case mindset for the trajectory the wrestler is going to go in. Some people could take a loss here and there after their call-up, but I agree that Ilja vs. Gunther is bigger with Ilja being unbeaten. It also would’ve been bigger if Gunther was still champion and unbeaten on the main roster, meaning that now he has to face the only man to ever beat him in WWE. As long as they don’t give anyone the Karrion Kross call-up treatment, then I won’t complain😅😬.
In no universe should Ilja be losing to Jey clean. That’s the fundamental issue. Like Jey is super over, and that matters, but he’s not a believable badass in the ring.

If the HHH-era has taught me anything so far it's that the term "Trust The Process" has never been more true. Initially I was upset Uso beat Ija, I still kinda am, but.....trust the process, there must have been a reason.
"trust the process" is gonna be over when they rush Liv champ, and have the same feud with becky vs Dmg ctrl like they did after becky vs Bianca WM. Dude loves ruining becky title runs. If becky loses to Liv YIKES, it means she doesnt have a new deal and Dmg Ctrl will injure her like they did when Becky hurt her should at WM vs Bianca.
They choose to keep Ija and Gunther away from each other, they're on the same side of the bracket, we didn't get them on Raw, we won't see them in Saudi.... why not?
Seems to me their saving that for somewhere else, they know the last match banged and how much history they have together. Ain't a single soul who saw the UK Championship match between those two who doesn't want to see them dial it back, Berlin maybe?

Tons of NXT matches have had people kick out of the standard H bomb. It's almost not even his finisher. I'd say his 2 finishers are a H bomb from the top rope, or torpedo moscow
Just to disprove the narrative that Ilja can’t recover from a loss I’ll mention this: around a year ago Ilja lost clean to Jd Mcdoughnah and also got beaten bloody by him 💀💀😭 yet he’s still taken just as serious, on top of this Ilja and Gunther’s next match will be a tiebreaker why have that on Raw and the match after on PLE? That literally kills the major story beat of the PLE match.

It’s more frustrating because Gunther and Ijia have a history and they honestly had some of the best matches in WWE. He’s one of the few people that made Gunter tap out.
all the more reason to wait for Ilja vs Gunther. Why put on some random Raw, getting interrupted by ads all the time, and for it to only be in the semi finals?? It’s better to build a great story and perform for the biggest and best crowd possible, giving them time to put on a phenomenal match with no ad breaks.
Gunther vs Ilja will main event Bash in Berlin most likely.
What I find really interesting is the fact the last four guys on Smackdown can be split into groups of two for Gunther and Jey. Gunther vs Randy/LA or Jey vs Carmelo/Tonga. However the final King of the Ring match I think should absolutely be Gunther vs Randy. It would be a fantastic match and is the most interesting pairing imo
Trips had just recently lost his world title so Lilian announced him as the 'Former World Heavyweight Champion' and he got pissed. Nice to know there's such a wholesome story behind that memorable moment.

The great thing too about Jey and the Uncle Howdy thing is that the Uncle Howdy stuff talks a lot about family. Jey has basically lost all of his family and it can be a thing where they try and convert Jey into their family. I think it could be a incredibly emotional thing where Jey reveals so much pain and loss from not being with his family and Uncle Howdy can all him out about the "YEET" thing being a front to his sadness and this can break Jey and push him to go back to his angrier side.
King of the Ring usually is a mid card tournament.
It's purpose is to elevate a few midcarders into the maine event scene.
Think about the winners. Edge when he was midcarder, Woods who's always been a midcarder unfortunately, Corbin, Regal and of course Brock in 2002 as a Rookie won it.

Less than a year ago, fans wanted Jey Uso to end Roman Reigns’ 1000+ day reign as champion. Now, people are mad that Jey (over as hell with fans and top merch seller) beats Ilja Dragunov, who was just called up to the main roster.
It’s like you haven’t witnessed Cody’s story for the past 2 years. HHH loves long term storytelling. Gunther and Ilja already have history but casual fans don’t know that as much, and HHH knows there should be a proper build to their match, and it will happen soon. If this happens next week, then it’s just a wasted opportunity to tell a good story out of it.
Btw, John Cena, who some people consider as the GOAT, lost his very 1st match against Kurt Angle. No one was complaining then, or criticizing the booking of an up-and-comer

Storylines and characters change. The entire roster changes and grows. This is how time works. That’s why people feel differently about Jey now than in the past. Time has literally moved forward lol
NXT isn't OVW, like, 1/4 of the people watching RAW watch NXT. If you're gonna treat NXT as "canon," then Ilja should be booked on a high level. This is very different to a John Cena nobody knew because OVW wasn't treated like that.

Best case scenario for Willow Vs Mercedes. Is that they are putting on a banger but Mercedes can't get the win, so Mercedes attacks her with a weapon. Gets the DQ. Turns heel and keeps attacking her. "injures" Willow. She's on the shelf for a couple months while Mercedes is named the new TBS Champion in her absence. Willow eventually returns to a massive Babyface reaction. Ends up going over Mercedes for the title. Mercedes moves on to the World Championship and Willow dominates the TBS division before dropping it and also moving on to the World title picture

Say if Hayes gets the win on Orton and Orton is humble and supports him generally as a show of good sportsmanship. Hayes then goes up against Tama and tries to run bloodline shenanigans w/Orton stepping in like "not on my watch" resulting in Hayes getting the win without hurting Tama's sorta beast reputation and initiates a feud between Orton and Tama going forward

Ilja is my 3rd favorite wrestler on the planet rn ( behind Gunther + Seth) but he shouldn’t have won, Jey is over asf and we can’t preach “ listen to the fans” for we want Cody but ignore them with Jey. Ilja vs Gunther happening in Berlin is perfect bc this next match will be a tiebreaker and also that Berlin crowd will be on the level of San Juan / France.

Gunther beating Jay will make him even stronger. Ilja is a newcomer and he can't beat Gunther now. Ilja needs to be pushed and have some toe to toe matches with lefends like a Orton, Aj styles or something like this to prove that he can beat Gunther. UFC champions defend their belts every 2-3 months because they want full training camps ahead of their fights and time to recover from their last one. I don't really get the comparison between UFC & WWE champions.

Complaining about Jey's "yeet" yet not once complained about LA's "yeaahh" which he probably just does as much, which I also enjoy. It's incredible crowd control and showcases their impact to the crowds and fans, Jey's yeet is literally his own "WHAT" chant, stop complaining and enjoy the moments and energy

while i haven't yet got to the part about Jey and Ilja yet I do want to say my original reaction was one of shock and disappoint ment however as I thought about it more, Jey winning is a good thing because what will happen is that (at least in my mind) is that Ludwig and Ilja will have matches where Ilja beats him and eventually it'll lead to him verse Gunther. As much as I wanted him to win feeding him to Gunther in just his 4th match is too early for a match of that caliber because we all know that will be a barnburner

Jey 100% deserved and earned that win against Ilja. I’m a fan of both of them as well Ilja just got called up and we can build a better story for him against Gunther in the future and the fact that they already gave him a main event match means they think very highly of him. Jey is a huge babyface star for raw right now and was the #1 pick for raw in the draft so it made perfect logical sense ❤
I would normally say wrong but the fact this because they don’t want to waste their first main roster scrap on raw makes me not be mad, I guess you could argue they could’ve made it the final or not have ilja in the tournament to avoid this but I’m honestly not as bothered as some people are

Ilja losing in a tournament is no big deal, the guy proved himself and will likely be more over because of his loss than he would've been if he had won.
Sometimes i enjoy yall but man sometimes the casual fandom can be annoying. From not knowing how to prounce Tama to booking a heel v heel final in the king of the Ring, it baffles me. I think the only logical final is Jey v Tama or Gunther v Knight or Orton.
Why did Jey pin Ilja? Because they are pushing Jey and it was Ilja's second match on the main roster. The better question is why he and Lyra were in the tournament,but Pierce didn't want to throw Bron Breaker into the deep end with The Sharks so early?
Pretty sure they just don’t want Bron to take an L, it’s actually being worked into a storyline so it was probably intentional.

Jey Uso was going to beat Roman by himself at SummerSlam and Roman had Solo helping him until Jimmy got involved.
Jey Uso was going to beat Gunther CLEAN before Jimmy got involved.
In kayfabe he can beat pretty much anyone clean except for maybe Seth Rollins who he did lose to clean in a World Title Match late last year and obviously Cody Rhodes.
IMO pitting extra content behind a paywall is kinda mean and scummy to do especially for the people who love the content but have a hard time paying bills and getting by. If it was more "personal" then maybe bc it's an "optional" thing instead of a "need to" thing.
People need to understand that everything a talent does in NXT matters very little when they transition to the main brands. I don't like to call NXT a development brand, that stopped being the case a couple of years ago at least, but to casual fans it is just that and that's why very few watch it compared to RAW and SD. Ilja as of now is what you would call an exciting prospect. I have no doubt that eventually he'll have a bigger run than Jey Uso, but that doesn't mean he should beat him now. If anything, and that's just my opinion, it was wrong for Ilja to beat Ricochet who had just won the Speed title. The Ilja vs Gunther match will happen, and WWE were absolutely correct to postpone that until Ilja is well established on RAW.
I really don’t think it’s a big deal. He had a good showing against the top babyface on raw. Ilja is someone who get stronger with a big loss. Look at his first match with Gunther in NXT UK.
