WL Walkin its cool to rep ya hood but you was talking saying your hood looks more hood than mines (wilmington,de) and i aint see one boarded up house in your hood all the houses look nice i saw one corner store in this whole video no dark streets no alleyways but you said my hood looks sweet you trippin
@WL Walkin hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahshshshahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha East Village? May I remind you those aren't actual zombies at Zombie Burger.
For all the “Iowa has a hood” every state is going to have an area or areas of mostly minority’s low income poor schools and violence which is essentially “the hood”
Even though I understand what you mean Hood literally is short for neighborhood people Twisted the meaning I'm in the hood is simply saying I'm in the neighborhood
Exactly every state has a hood that’s how it is I live in a state that doesn’t have a reputation for gangs but they are around unfortunately I’m in Utah and there are ghettos but it’s nowhere near like Chicago or Detroit.
B.T WestSide yeah I agree. And even then, those places really aren’t anything too bad especially when compared to other midwestern cities and metro areas. Omaha has a lot more rough parts than any city in Iowa. Waterloo really isn’t too nice but that’s also just a bunch of college kids and poor people, not really a hood.
I live in this area where you were driving. You can get violence but it’s not as much as Memphis, Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Detroit, and many others.
WL Walkin I live right off 6th and university so what are you getting at? It’s not the nicest but it’s no where fuckin remotely close to Chicago, Detroit and other “hoods” like those.
Stop it.....I'm from Des Moines Iowa....this is the west side!!!!! But what you need to come to my hood on the east side!!!! But my city ain't no punk .... Both sides of town gets it in ...... Shout out to the DMI.....love my city
i find it oddly ignorant that he drives around "hoods only" instead of good and nice places, he must not realize the ignorance on youtube that he is stereotyping...maybe he does and just do not care..which makes him a typical youtube trash..
It is. We live in the middle of a suburb of Des Moines. Each house on this cul-de-sac has about an acre of land. When we moved here 35 years ago, the street had a lot of kids same age as ours. There is hardly any traffic so the kids were able to bike, skateboard, etc., in the street. Now, 35 years later, kids are all grown and gone and it’s very peaceful here. In the mornings, my husband opens the patio doors and just sits and listens to all the birds chirping. At night we have all sorts of animals roaming the neighborhood. We’ve had deer wandering around our yards and walking down the street. Lots of bunnies and squirrels. We have a pool and currently have a group of ducks paddling around the water that’s on top of the winter cover.
Waterloo has drop outs an snitches that try to get a fresh start so they move to those places to keep a low pro Lol and that's facts. Fake ass thugs. I would say outta 500 "gangsters" maybe 10 are solid an that's Southern Cali people, but they don't last out there. At least I couldn't adjust to some fake ass shit. I went for the money bounce back to Cali after I stacked chips. Notice to many fake thugs an drop outs that try to set up shop SMH
The worst thing we have here in Des Moines is the drugs , you can run into a lot of tweaked out people talking to their demons but not in this area though . It’s sad but not dangerous really . The parts by the highway are depressing this is just like the main African American neighborhood not even bad at all
Maple Leaf bro what? Night time is no different. That's Forrest ave right at the end, I used to fuck this chick that lived in the apartments behind that brick building on 22nt and Forrest (it's like some African store now) and I was always out side smoking and never had a problem. It's not that bad at all g. I literally live there.
I grew up in Beaverdale in the 2000s. It was a decent blue collar neighborhood that is nestled by a some of the places you drove through. My Grandmother lived around one of these shots, I had friends living on some of these streets, I went to church in the drake neighborhood. I remember growing up, we never considered any of this a 'hood', just an older part of town, with older houses. Becoming an adult and interacting with suburban raised people, I soon realized that they viewed these areas with fear, judgement, and distain. It was a big culture shock for me. Now I see a lot of those suburban millennials moving into these areas and I have to wonder if they also hold a deep seeded prejudice against the community they are injecting themselves into.
Yeah those yuppies have moved into South Philly by the droves, pretty much ruined the whole area by making everything too expensive and running the Natives out. The ones who are still left the yuppies call us " the left overs "... these same assholes have blm signs on their door and they all love Biden.
Moving to Beaverdale from Phoenix in December. Grew up in a blue collar family in Detroit. Mixed neighborhood and we all got along. I'm a 55yr old Gen X'er
I grew up in Ankeny but my grandmother lives off of Forest in the Drake area. She had a foster home and specialized in high-risk youth (behavior issues, drug addictions, abuse victims, juvenile's on probation, etc) and I spent a lot of time there when I was young with kids who had seen it all. I absolutely love the area and have never felt scared in that neighborhood, but having a lot of very privileged high school friends, it was always interesting to see how anxious they were to travel around the Drake area. If I hadn't spent so much time there as a kid, I probably would be the same way, but I agree with you, huge culture shock when you see how afraid people are... I often look back and am so grateful that I had the exposure at a young age to be more aware of what goes on in "the hood".
Great video. What's missing is a comparison video of this same route in early, mid, and even late 70's...idk how Des Moines did it, but the despair in many neighborhoods that once was acute has been run out of town.
This is funny to me. I lived in Des Moines for about 10 years before moving to L.A. and I know there were definitely areas in DSM that I didn't go to. But I mean, pretty much any city has bad neighborhoods. I've seen so much worse though like South Central. LOL
For the most part this video did feature the worst parts of Des Moines, it turns out Des Moines just doesn't really have any really bad areas. Probably the most dangerous parts of the city are kind of near the botanical center and maybe mercy hospital as well but they have mostly newer complexes.
I'd say the Drake area, the area west of 6th ave, south of eucild and down to university avenue, and Evelyn Davis Park are DSM's "hoods". Still live here, and we have had an uptick in murders and shootings over the years unfortunately. But all and all it's pretty safe. And except for a couple of show complexes that were only built in the past few years, I wouldn't say the mercy hospital area has "newer complexes", it's a crap hole with mostly houses in very poor shape and crappy complexes.
I live in Beaverdale now, but when I went to Drake in 2010, I often get text alerts about drive-bus. Usually past 23rd street towards MLK. Des Moines is a very safe area tho.
I'm looking for a good peaceful place to relocate lol, I think I might have found it! Never understood why some people want their city to be hood, be proud of your peaceful city!
I live right behind Creative Visions (the 4 way stop at 3:00). Glad to see people getting a good view of our hood instead of the drive bys and drug deals.
I remember when I used to stay on the east side of Des Moines. Not really a bad place, since there are plenty of other worse off places in southeastern Iowa.
Carter Johnson lived on East side Des Moines and southeast Iowa (currently) Burlington is way worse. broad day shootings dudes carrying guns out in the open once the sun goes down and shooting almost every day
Des Moines is pretty quiet for the most part. If you are looking for places nearby-Kankakee,Ill is grimy as fk,ofc East St Louis,up here in Minneapolis the north side would give you a good video.
My gf lives in this area, it can get a little sketch after hours but you can drive through at 12:00am and there’s a 99.8 percent chance you’ll get out just fine, probably the worst that can happen is you hit a big pot hole on the smaller streets
I live in Southern California and that is the nicest hood I’ve ever seen! Beautiful! Come to LA and you’ll see some real scary hoods. I would live where you are showing.
Depending on your definition of hood, it's because in iowa it basically means the poorer side of town, but because more often than not we try to look out for each other even those neighborhoods are still pretty peacefull, untill you get into areas where drugs have started taking over sadly.
I’m from LA too and people from other places say our “hoods” look beautiful lol.. keep in mind there’s hoods everywhere, even in Hollywood, The Valley and the beach cities. However it’s way different than hoods I’m watts. I think every city has nice and bad parts.
So you're telling me that the Southside suburban area is "the hood" lmao I live on the southside, bro. Clearly you've never been to the Drake side of Des Moines.
13th ave, Mondamien,Forrest Ave,College,Washington,MLK! Forest park,Goods park,926, Cheat on hood, Ponderosa,University( the carwash). My Home. Born and raised.
Hello there, Iowa born and raised. Lived right outside of Des Moines for 18 years. There is no hood in Iowa for any of you wondering. We have an extremely low crime rate, and little to no violent crimes. Most crimes are drug related. Des Moines is extremely peaceful and for a city of 200k the police force is pretty small. All in all Iowa’s a great place to live but just because we have low income neighborhoods doesn’t mean we have a hood. If you ever pass through we Actually have some fun stuff to do. PaPa John Sculpture Park downtown is really cool, Adventureland is a good way to kill off a day or two (it’s a theme park/Water park), and in the summer the farmers market can be fun too.
Damn, that's the hood? You need to visit some of the places I've been to. West Detroit, Overtown/Liberty City/Opa Laca and Florida City in Miami. New Orleans, Buffalo and Rochester in New York, now thats hood.
Only half way through the video but have to ask... What the hell are you driving, and where did you learn to drive? Cutting corners looks like the cars have to wait for your turns like people do for a semi....
Shout out to Des Moines, Iowa and all of Iowa! When I was in Waterloo, Iowa a few weeks ago I filmed a video of me driving through the streets of Waterloo, Iowa, check it out: ua-cam.com/video/6BBUIBonS5k/v-deo.html&lc=UgxCe3AJwl25vfuGZC94AaABAg

how u gon turn left on the main street then cut it off? I felt like thats where the action would be. You can tell its an urban area but I dont feel like that was really the "hood".
Wow the layout and the architect of the houses really look similar to the Chicago suburbs. And I thought Iowa was nothing but corn LOL. Hey charlie, havent talked in a while. Still making those Hood videos lol. can you record seagulls and crows in Detroit if u get a chance? i know you do a lot of miscellaneous videos. Thanks and take care

come to Norristown in Pennsylvania just outside Philadelphia, and shoutout your Cheltenham video I always am around that spot lol I'm from that area, not too ghetto compared to these other videos
Maybe because I'm from NY, but I always think of Iowa as farmers and nice, quiet small towns. It's gotta be better than the elitist NYers here. They think they are great.
What is this bro. I heard Iowa was corn fields. But then I see hoods of Iowa it peaked my curiosity. Right I'm watching this ....this looks like a random town in NY...inbetween Albany and the City.
this has got to be the most peaceful hood i have ever seen
I grew up in Des Moines and yes it is.

Looks like a very safe community
This hood nice
CharlieBo313 You gotta do one in Omaha, Ne. You'd be surprised, I'm sure
I bought a pair of sunglasses on that corner where the stores are at the end
Those "slums" would be nice neighborhoods in Detroit.
Should went to waterloo iowa
What neighborhoods are the hood in Waterloo? I live sort of close by
come to Norristown in Pennsylvania just outside Philadelphia, and shoutout your Cheltenham video I always am around that spot lol I'm from that area, not too ghetto compared to these other videos
Watch out for that tweeker on a pink 10-speed at 630 in the morning carrying a case of nat. Ice!!
You in an army tank?
Jajaja
You gotta go to Southeast DC sometime lol
this hood makes compton look like sesame street ive seen people riding there bicicles on the roadway here
Maybe because I'm from NY, but I always think of Iowa as farmers and nice, quiet small towns. It's gotta be better than the elitist NYers here. They think they are great.
Des Moines isn't a small town
lol
Des Moines metro 600,000+; that's bigger than the cities (proper) of Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Tampa and/or Kansas City.
Roger Wilco
Bigger than Minniapolis? No way man...
Highest literacy rate in the US for a while and those corn farmers have money. Pioneer, Monsanto, etc etc.

SK is straight terrible. They’re about 2 notches above GWAR.
What is this bro. I heard Iowa was corn fields. But then I see hoods of Iowa it peaked my curiosity. Right I'm watching this ....this looks like a random town in NY...inbetween Albany and the City.
observation...it had rained. They don't call me Einstein for nothing....lol
All places have 'hoods' but in comparison to some places Des Moines looks pretty quiet, peaceful.
Rembrandt van Rijn it is!!
peacful asf but full of meth
There ain't nothing good about this at all, just driving around town is what it looks like.
you should have done iowa city or waterloo
I saw my old house within the first 10 secs of the video 😂
Ayyyy I could walk there from my house.
Looks nice enough, like somewhere that you can live in peace and raise a family. And there's nothing wrong with that.
It looks like SHIT who are you kidding! Then again any time a "certain" group of people move in it always goes to shit.
