This is quite nostalgic for me. Had a '93 VW Golf with this engine as my first car back in 2007. It was quite reliiable despite the high mileage and slow enough to prevent me from crashing it.
These engines will never die. My father has Fabia 1.9 SDI, and I believe that engine is the same in both of these. It's slow and sluggish but it will almost never brake.
The 1Y (1.9d) is unrelated to the SDI. This is indirect injection, the 1.9SDI is direct injection and shares most of its components design with the 1.9TDI

I#ve got the 1.9 TDI engine code 1Z in my mk3 convertible. It has a turbo but isn't common rail and just has an unregulated diesel KAT and a tiny EGR ratio. It never soot down the engine and it have a good fuel efficiency. Its 90HP are more than enough for me as well and it makes fun to drive. I just upgraded with a cruise control (also original parts) b/c except in the US VW never sold this car with cruise control, so I've imported the parts for it from the US :D Works great, love it and I've got the ca 2009 ^^ - still driving it daily ^^

Does it really have 1 million km or just 300000? The mileage counter has a "total" that is displayed in the upper left corner that dissapears when the car exceeds 299999 km. So the car might just have 299999km + the number that is written right now
or 600k + what is on the dash or 900k + what is on the dash got a Golf 3 Bon Jovi with 66666 km on the dash and 600k "hidden" it was fun capturing that moment

My grandad owned one of these, his was a 97 diesel red estate. Unfortunately it gave up a few years back as the engine completely gave up. I found these pretty cool despite being a 90s car it has such a lovely interior but found the seats quite hard and a bit uncomfortable but being an old car it would've had a lot of usage. The main part of the car I love is the engine sound while it accelerates! The speed of the car itself isn't too fast but it depends on who drives the car but the one on this video is perfect and looks very powerful too! 👍
The GT/GTI seats are marvelous! My 1.4 has them, i am the 3rd owner 2nd owner was my godfather he said he has no idea who put those in. I made a 500+ km road trip no breaks and I didn't feel very tired, super comfy.
It won't go 135km/h. My mother had a Citroen Dyane when I got my drivers license and It wouldn't go past 120km/h. But it's not about the speed(obviously) it's about the lifestyle. I had a lot a fun taking corners with that suspension. It was like cornering like a bike but in a car!

Golf mk3 is turning km at 300000, the clock is back on 0 km. So if reading is curent at 17700 it could only be 317 thousand 617, 917 or 1217000. 1.1 mil is not possible.
@@albundy7076 they don't go on zero after 300k km, they show just these lines, basically the odometer bricks itself and you have to replace the whole cluster, cars with electronic odometers never go back to zero. Maybe someone changed the gauges earlier than 300k km, did you think of that?

We have the same engine and same year of Golf III. Ours is a Pink Floyd Edition Special, but the decals got painted over sadly due to rust issues when we had to repaint. Really great engines, indestructible and very easy to work on, with access to everything. Our engine currently has about 460k kilometers and still works like brand new. Thanks for doing this review, I couldn't find any with thw same engine and year specifically on UA-cam lol, and just seeing the car has 1.1m kilometers shows just how reliable that strong 1.9SDI is. Great video!
This make me feel nostalgic for my car. Was a White Mk3 Manhattan (the lowest equipment in the market from the golf's) 93 with the old 1.8 Single point injection (90 HPs or less) and was heavily mistreated by the early owner. Remember when I archived 175 kmh for the first time, makes me feel soo strange an good at the same time.

How do you know it's 1 million km? AFAIK, those golfs roll over to 0 from 299999, and the word "Total" disappears from the cluster. So, it should be showing 2xx,xxx km on the odo for 1 million km.
What a difference, i had an 1995 VW Golf III 1.6 75hp AEA with around 130k miles and it was nowhere as slow as this. =))) Great performance tho for such an road veteran.

How do you know it's 1 million km? AFAIK, those golfs roll over to 0 from 299999, and the word "Total" disappears from the cluster. So, it should be showing 2xx,xxx km on the odo for 1 million km.
Curently odo shows 17708 so it is either 317708, 617708, 917708 or 1217708. You can not ad up curent km to get 1.1 mil.
