      @VIVANOFF Yes, and most police use ford focuses, doesn't mean it's of best use or of best quality( modern MB is luxury and finesse, not best quality). I mean, we see on this video about old german glory 1.9 sdi, just like 190D from MB, bulletproof, amazing engines.

    This is quite nostalgic for me. Had a '93 VW Golf with this engine as my first car back in 2007. It was quite reliiable despite the high mileage and slow enough to prevent me from crashing it.

    These engines will never die. My father has Fabia 1.9 SDI, and I believe that engine is the same in both of these. It's slow and sluggish but it will almost never brake.

      The SDI is the diesel engine without the turbo, and these engines can last longer than 1.9TDI ALH code

      The 1Y (1.9d) is unrelated to the SDI. This is indirect injection, the 1.9SDI is direct injection and shares most of its components design with the 1.9TDI

    Oh man, this brings back old memories.
    Back in the 90’s the diesels didn’t have common rail turbos, most were under 100 hp.
    But, I still enjoyed my golf3... she was very reliable
    Now, my 2.0 alltrack bi-tdi goes 0-100 in 5 seconds. Diesels have come a long way in the last 20 years. Thanks for the nostalgic upload

      If it is the 1.9D it is neither direct injection (and common rail VW introduced only in 2005 or 2006) nor turbocharged. Diesels have come a long way but Volkswagen killed them when cheating to be competitive.

      I#ve got the 1.9 TDI engine code 1Z in my mk3 convertible. It has a turbo but isn't common rail and just has an unregulated diesel KAT and a tiny EGR ratio.
      It never soot down the engine and it have a good fuel efficiency. Its 90HP are more than enough for me as well and it makes fun to drive. I just upgraded with a cruise control (also original parts) b/c except in the US VW never sold this car with cruise control, so I've imported the parts for it from the US :D
      Works great, love it and I've got the ca 2009 ^^ - still driving it daily ^^

    This car already has 317,000 km on it. When it reaches 300,000km it starts counting again from 0km and the word "TOTAL" disappears.
    But for an original 29 year old car, it's running well

    Does it really have 1 million km or just 300000? The mileage counter has a "total" that is displayed in the upper left corner that dissapears when the car exceeds 299999 km. So the car might just have 299999km + the number that is written right now

      It won't go 135km/h. My mother had a Citroen Dyane when I got my drivers license and It wouldn't go past 120km/h. But it's not about the speed(obviously) it's about the lifestyle. I had a lot a fun taking corners with that suspension. It was like cornering like a bike but in a car!

    One of my colleagues still has one. It only has the driver's seat and he doesn't even lock it anymore. He uses it to carry materials for his house. A few days ago he was transporting some huge stones to use around the pool in front of the house.

    My grandad owned one of these, his was a 97 diesel red estate. Unfortunately it gave up a few years back as the engine completely gave up. I found these pretty cool despite being a 90s car it has such a lovely interior but found the seats quite hard and a bit uncomfortable but being an old car it would've had a lot of usage. The main part of the car I love is the engine sound while it accelerates! The speed of the car itself isn't too fast but it depends on who drives the car but the one on this video is perfect and looks very powerful too! 👍

      The GT/GTI seats are marvelous! My 1.4 has them, i am the 3rd owner 2nd owner was my godfather he said he has no idea who put those in. I made a 500+ km road trip no breaks and I didn't feel very tired, super comfy.

    I did my license on this car. though I think it was the stronger 90 hp tdi engine. I've driven both engines and the turbo was a totally different world. So much more torque and a really lightweight car. Did 180 kph on highways but always loud af

    Are you sure about the mileage? I think those cars would turn the clock around after 300000km. So maybe 470000km are more realistic and still impressive!

      Golf mk3 is turning km at 300000, the clock is back on 0 km. So if reading is curent at 17700 it could only be 317 thousand 617, 917 or 1217000. 1.1 mil is not possible.

      @@albundy7076 they don't go on zero after 300k km, they show just these lines, basically the odometer bricks itself and you have to replace the whole cluster, cars with electronic odometers never go back to zero. Maybe someone changed the gauges earlier than 300k km, did you think of that?

      @@krecik2336 yes golf mk3 is turning the clock ar 300k to 0 km. If the odometer is changed thats a diferent story. But 17k km can not be added up to get 1.1 mil km in a original mk3 odometer. Its not just me. Scrol down the coments you will see

      @@albundy7076 okay, I thought they don't go back to zero, I was mistaken. But like I said, the gauges could be changed, what if the original gauge cluster broke at 500k km? If the gauges were brand new, counting from 0, then you can easily have 1.1kk km. Though the only proof for this mileage is some evidence from the owner, which we'll probably never get.

    How do you know it's 1 million km? AFAIK, those golfs roll over to 0 from 299999, and the word "Total" disappears from the cluster. So, it should be showing 2xx,xxx km on the odo for 1 million km.

      Curently odo shows 17708 so it is either 317708, 617708, 917708 or 1217708. You can not ad up curent km to get 1.1 mil.

    This make me feel nostalgic for my car. Was a White Mk3 Manhattan (the lowest equipment in the market from the golf's) 93 with the old 1.8 Single point injection (90 HPs or less) and was heavily mistreated by the early owner.
    Remember when I archived 175 kmh for the first time, makes me feel soo strange an good at the same time.

    I have the same engine (1Y, i think), on my old Ibiza with 250.000km. I hope i can do more km with it :). My first car, maybe not the fast or the newest but im glad with it.

      @@gaetanocusato1308 At this moment, I have done 275.000km. In these 25,000km I have only had to do maintenance. Oil and steering belt. Working good without bigs problems. :)
      Also, one close friend have the Polo with same engine, but 450.000km, and 0 problems.

    We have the same engine and same year of Golf III. Ours is a Pink Floyd Edition Special, but the decals got painted over sadly due to rust issues when we had to repaint. Really great engines, indestructible and very easy to work on, with access to everything. Our engine currently has about 460k kilometers and still works like brand new. Thanks for doing this review, I couldn't find any with thw same engine and year specifically on UA-cam lol, and just seeing the car has 1.1m kilometers shows just how reliable that strong 1.9SDI is. Great video!

    I love my Mk3, 293k miles and still returns 50+ mpg. Shit before the 5th gear swap it sat at 120mph screaming its head off without skipping a beat, I was amazed it could still top out. Deserves the refresh it got

      @@molnarrobert1893 that was a Mk2 possibility but for the Mk3 TDI we have 5 from factory, but we have a .658 5th swap from like the .810 or whatever it was from factory

    Die Tachos der frühen Golf3 Generationen haben nach 299.999km wieder bei Null weiter gemacht.
    Es könnte also auch durchaus sein, dass dieser Golf vielleicht nur 300k oder 600.000km gelaufen hat. Aber dennoch ist der alte "Einz-Neuner Saug Diesel" wohl einer der Robustesten Motoren im PKW Bereich und durchaus ein Kandidat, bei dem auch 2 Millionen Kilometer möglich wären.
    Allerdings kann er auch das Erbe des alten Strich Acht 200d antreten und ebenfalls den Namen "Wanderdüne" tragen.

    How do you come to the conclusion that the car has 1.1 million km? A Golf mk3 speedometer goes back to zero at 299,999 km. The displayed speedometer reads 17,704 km. At 1.1 million km there should be 200,000 km and before that he should have already walked the 300,000 km three times.

    you never hold high rpm on diesel engine.... change gear between 2,5-3,5k RPM. The whole torque and power is lower. Over 4k rpm its pointless.
