I'm pretty sure this will get buried but for ZF transmissions you HAVE to use genuine ZF fluid, if you use anything else like that Valvoline stuff the transmission won't be for long. Not that it matters anyways because hoovie will probably sell it in 2 months but still
People who speak badly of Maserati generally have never had one and do not know the car. They are great cars and, unlike what is believed, they are generally very reliable
@@josedealbuquerquejr.941 That's probably true, but this comment was more about Italian cars in general. There's no arguing they're amazing cars to own, but there's also no arguing that they're poorly built.
Always look forward to your videos very informative and entertaining. Hoping to see some updates on your new home and congratulations on your home and I do love that Maserati beautiful color
The gearbox is ZF 6HP26 and it calls for ZF Lifegueard 6 or 8 oil which is yellow. I see you put standard ATF oil in it, curious to see how it behave with it long term.
Radostin Velchev Even on power toys like ATVs I’ve seen the wrong oil do irreparable harm. I sense this poor ZF transmission running on the wrong oil won’t last long lol
whats the gearbox code/type?I think u just put wrong oil in it..all the zf 5hp or 6hp gearboxes use yellow oil not the red one 🤔 the red one is for Multitronic, yellow for tiptronic
I need a garage like wizard! I don't like working on "normal" cars as much. Been doing similar electronics repairs on my BMW. I love wiring, becoming a wizard of my own!
Lmao at 2:46 , Levante in Italian literally means being lifted or ascending. I guess it’s an apt name, because it’ll spend more time on a lift than on the roads lol
Reminds me of when I changed the "sealed for life" fluid on my E36 BMW... Having to have the car running whilst I was underneath was not a nice experience! But hey, got over 250,000 miles from that car... And it wasn't the gearbox that finally condemned it as beyond economical repair!
Erm... There's a good reason why the fluid came out golden, rather than red - a lot of zf auto boxes don't use traditional red ATF, they use different fluid, that is a golden colour and traditional Dexron type ATF isn't compatible! Did you guys check this one specifically before ordering/filling it?
Nah it was more like they ruined the legacy of the NSX with the new NSX and no one wanted to even look at it because of that. As the Lotus Evora 400 is far more of an NSX than the NSX now.
How cool is it that you have a Car Wheeeeeeee-Zard as your best friend? You guys are hilarious. And the Maserati is pretty bad ass too. Another great episode.
@@Azureecosse I'm not sure but the neon sign reminds me of the early 80s Electric Blue videos. I was just a young teenager using my dad's VHS video recorder!
Great show but I don’t think any ZF transmission of that era was used in a Mercedes automobile. As far as I know the transmission in question is the ZF 6HP26 and was used on BMWs and Jaguar models. It should be durable though since it’s rated by the manufacturer for 600 Nm.
Yeah, it truly is unfortunate you got rid of your NSX it truly is one of my favorite cars the older and newer ones. Very surprising the videos didn't get as much good feedback.
The ZF fluid is actually a clearish amber color, yours really wasn't that bad. Still a good idea to be proactive on it and you should be fine using the maxlife atf. The standard syn atf has a bit lower viscosity than the zf spec stuff. If it meets LT71141 it will be fine
The car manufacturer says gearbox is maintenance free. ZF says on their website that the oil should be changed. It's not hard to guess which one is right.
On the older Mercedes trans they usually need the speed sensor on the conductor plate, which is all 1 piece. (2 sensors built into the plate). The transmission computer plug that plugs into the transmission might have a little fluid in it, that could also be causing a failed connection.
So about 200 of the 288 comments are people correcting me about ZF being their own independent company, and Mercedes not sourcing many of their transmissions there. Anybody else want to remind me???

People who speak badly of Maserati generally have never had one and do not know the car. They are great cars and, unlike what is believed, they are generally very reliable
@@josedealbuquerquejr.941 That's probably true, but this comment was more about Italian cars in general. There's no arguing they're amazing cars to own, but there's also no arguing that they're poorly built.
the both o' yaz are relaxing and entertaining to watch
Every time your music plays I expect a faux marketing and training video from the eighties on the Turboencabulator to begin.
Always look forward to your videos very informative and entertaining. Hoping to see some updates on your new home and congratulations on your home and I do love that Maserati beautiful color
Must have that giant syringe! 😮
I just Bought a 2007 Quattroporte on the cheap. Now the learning begins.
You guys are the best to watch! Dream team!
Came here for the same reason. That's ATF DX3. Should use ZF lifeguard6 - regular Dexron will severely shorten the life of the 6hp.
I thought the old fluid being light brown was wierd. I've never seen red stuff go light brown like that, now yellow oil I could. Oops.
4:19 Brown shower? Bwahahaha!
(yes, I've had this sense of humor since I was 12...)

Labor-$80 an hour
If you watch-$100 an hour
If you laugh-$140 an hour
If you help-$200 an hour
You need an animated GIF of yourself dancing for the bottom corner of the video anytime the theme song plays.
I need a garage like wizard! I don't like working on "normal" cars as much. Been doing similar electronics repairs on my BMW. I love wiring, becoming a wizard of my own!
I loved your nsx videos! I watched most of them twice
Lmao at 2:46 , Levante in Italian literally means being lifted or ascending.
I guess it’s an apt name, because it’ll spend more time on a lift than on the roads lol
Hoovie PLEASE get a 93-96 Buick Roadmaster Estate. It’s got heated seats and might just be better than the other Buick you’ve had.
Did you guys check this one specifically before ordering/filling it?
its fine, just like LS swap was fine ;-)
"wizard"
Hoovie, I agree, the NSX is an amazing car. Must be an America vs Europe thing (I'm European/British).
Another great episode.
i watched it twice xD hoovie and the wizard compliment each other like a nice vintage wine and aged cheese
Your neon intro sign and music always gives me flashbacks to the 1980s
@@Azureecosse I'm not sure but the neon sign reminds me of the early 80s Electric Blue videos. I was just a young teenager using my dad's VHS video recorder!
"Oh Wizard you're so soothing"🧙♂️🔧
... makes fart noises... giggles
Great show but I don’t think any ZF transmission of that era was used in a Mercedes automobile. As far as I know the transmission in question is the ZF 6HP26 and was used on BMWs and Jaguar models. It should be durable though since it’s rated by the manufacturer for 600 Nm.
The wizard is the best and he's a nice guy with out trying! Hoovies cool also!
Yeah, it truly is unfortunate you got rid of your NSX it truly is one of my favorite cars the older and newer ones. Very surprising the videos didn't get as much good feedback.
I enjoy the videos with you and wizard.
1:20 Hmmmmm.... I don't remember driving to Kansas anytime recently.....
/yes, I have a W210 E wagon, in Smoke Silver
We'd all benefit by having a wizard in our life. Imagine being able to drive such an interesting car and trusting your mechanic!
Wizard as Bob Ross?
Happy little transmission, right there. Remember folks, there are no accidents, only happy Hoovie bills.
The ZF fluid is actually a clearish amber color, yours really wasn't that bad. Still a good idea to be proactive on it and you should be fine using the maxlife atf. The standard syn atf has a bit lower viscosity than the zf spec stuff. If it meets LT71141 it will be fine
I love that the Wizard is using a COW INSEMINATOR to change fluids... that just rocks
The car manufacturer says gearbox is maintenance free. ZF says on their website that the oil should be changed. It's not hard to guess which one is right.
The Bob Ross of automecanics - brilliant! he should name himself like that
On the older Mercedes trans they usually need the speed sensor on the conductor plate, which is all 1 piece. (2 sensors built into the plate). The transmission computer plug that plugs into the transmission might have a little fluid in it, that could also be causing a failed connection.
Finally a hoovie video
Wizard loves wiring, I loved trim work, everyone who at one point or another who has worked on cars has their niche
I realized the Wizard is a sick puppy when he said, "I love wiring."
Wizard + Hoovie is always a good combo
