  • Someone mentioned their bike didn't come with a set of keys, so I decided to see if I could pick the lock on mine. I have no special tools for performing this task, so I just used stuff laying around in my garage. This was the first time I've ever picked a lock.
Here's a good video showing how a lock works. You might want to watch it to understand how a lock works so that you can get a better idea of what you're trying to do.

What if the key lock component is housed separately such that when the top cover four screws are removed, the key lock component is residing in a separate compartment housed in plastic cover adjacent to the main plastic casing? And battery is slided into the battery holder bracket of the ebike?

It's just a piece of metal I had laying around that I made into that shape so that it could fit into the slot. You can use a hair pin, a paper clip or anything that'll fit.

What bike do you have? Picking the lock is the only way I can think of.

@AYY IMAO no I haven't managed to find a solution yet, I'm worried now that I might damage the lock if I try and pick it, I really don't know what to do, it's either a ABUS or AXA lock, if you or anyone else can help me with any advice I would appreciate it very much, thankyou in advance. Great video thankyou.

@rushen773 hi no I have unfortunately not found a solution yet, I have taken my ebike to a kind locksmith who has attempted to pick the lock on the shimano steps grey plastic casing about 5 attempts he has had now, each attempt lasting about 30 minutes but he has not charged me any money because he has not succeeded. If you or anyone else can help me in anyway I would be grateful, I believe it's a AXA or ABUS battery lock thankyou.

The problem is that it is a disc lock that is pretty hard to pick so I had to drill the lock and get it open that way then replace the lock, hope u find a solution.

Can’t you just charge the batter while it’s attached?

Maybe you could bring it to a Trek store to see if they can do anything.

You can damage a lock by picking it and replacing the lock is hard. From what I hear.

Maybe they were referring to another type of lock? All I'm doing is pressing the pins with the piece of metal, the same thing a key does when you insert it, so I don't think that would cause any damage. Thanks for the warning!

@@JustEnjoyingLife73 Yanking the piece of metal out quickly can bend the wafers (they are not pins) and break the lock. The up-and-down wiggling you were doing right before the lock popped open is the right way to do it, you won't bend the wafers.

Oh, ok. I’ll have to learn more about those. Thanks!
