The biggest sin of this game for me is that the recruits can be the most normal Person, but as soon as they are DedSec, they have NO PROBLEM AT ALL with becoming the most hardcore criminals, beating up people, stealing cars and outright KILLING in the regular. One thing that continues to bother me about Watch Dogs: the very first game seemed to be setting up a through-line future-of-the-series plot hook over the course of the entire game with Blume and ctOS. How they were using the system to secretly monitor everyone's private lives, and were planning to do SOMETHING clearly nefarious and sci-fi-dystopic with all the behavioral information they were covertly gathering. It SEEMED to be setting up that plot, but nothing happened with an actually clever and timely sequel hook even after two more games. Hell, learning how much of our lives and opinions can be influenced by search engine and advertising algorithms after our own actual collective behavioral data has been harvested and sold to the highest bidders in the last few years, returning to that abandoned plot hook would've been even more timely than a weird psuedo-brexit-sorta-criticism.
the main sin is that they killed not James Bond at the start of the game Edit: I think he could be a protagonist just on the fact that we play as him and he has a voice
The dumb thing ubisoft overlooked in this game is the fact that if you find a really good character you juts keep playing as them, making the play as anyone redundant. Was really let down by WDL, it also ran like shit.
It isnot overlooked. It is the inherit flaw of recruit games. There is no point handle them after a handful of usefull recruits that you can powerlevel.
This is what I’ve tried telling people who seem to praise this games recruit system. It becomes completely redundant once you find a recruit you actually like since you have no reason to play any other recruits the only 3 recruits you need are a hacker, hitman/spy or a construction worker. Once you have those 3 I guarantee you don’t need any other recruits because the game isn’t that difficult either.
@@mandrovasab4335 Also ubisoft is very careful about making every mission possible with every character but that runs in to the same issue. If every chacter is capable of doing it why even bother choosing (not counting cheese tactics)
it isnt as black and white, there are characters who are better at the backstage like medics who can heal faster your woulded characters whey they are badly woulded or advocates who can free imprisioned characters from jail. of course, you can just recruit a ton of good characters and get the upgrades that manipulate the drones that the game starts to trow at you in the later game.

Here's a very British sin. Clan Kelly's slaves are apparently living off the dole (welfare payment ) And yet they go unnoticed by the Government and the general public. Has ubisoft ever been to England ? The dole is relentless if this game was accurate Clan Kelly would spend half the time ringing up the job centre and trying to explain why their slaves cant take part in a call centre course next Tuesday and why they'll have to reschedule their appointment despite getting more letters than Santa Claus pushed through the door on a weekly basis.

I going to say, I liked the first Watch Dogs but Ubisoft apparently thought it was the tone that was wrong with the game despite being pretty much the best part of the game and changed it completely for the second and this one looks half political and the other half half-assed.
The SIRS Home Office liaison wasn't a lesbian in my playthrough, she was straight. Either she's the opposite of whatever gender you first approach her as or it's random.

@@galacticreggie the fact that mainstream gaming press tends to praise them even after a decade of making basically the same games over and over and poorly prioritizing their devolvement. With a lot of terrible writing, errors and bugs and going in a direction of arbitrary completionism to fluff out "open worlds" with increasingly less actual player agency, so they can hamfist their bad writing. Like far cry 5 can't even be beaten, both endings are a loss. It's just another map full of bases to claim and silly collectables and side quests that are just excuses for minigames, occasionally interrupted by an immutable, heavy handed story the player has zero effect on whatsoever. I couldn't bring myself to finish it. Far cry 3 was fun cuz it felt new, even though I hated the plot. The cringeful "edgy" stories just got worse and more forced for basically exactly the same game mechanics, which are no longer near enough foundation for the whole shambles of a franchise to stand on. Or the sad anticlimax of the watch dogs property as seen here. TL;DR they kinda suck (also fuck Origin DRM), yet are hailed in the press as on the forefront of gaming innovation even though they haven't really innovated in like ten years. That's my take anyway.
God, literally every voice actor was insufferable. The Mary Kelly trafficker lady was the most cringeworthy performance ever. What kinda accent even was that??
the big issue is that they recorded the same lines with ~20 actors, then they used ai to modulate the voices and make more combinations. honestly the fact that the characters, their appearances, and their voices are all computer generated doesn't sit right with me. there's no compelling well-developed personalities like wd2 (and even wd1 to a lesser extent)
I feel like it's going to be a lot of typing at the wind but I wanted to get my piece of mind spelt out on a possible way Ubi could've made the Legion thing work: MAIN CHARACTERS - They're there and they're playable, but playing as one is like setting a campfire in a fireworks factory due to the strict security systems around the city and heat being almost impossible to shake off once you get it unless you run off in a shelter, so for the most part you're coerced into recruiting people who are able to walk around freely. In some parts of the story you will be forced to play them in order to have a character progression, mostly to act on a personal matter or inner circle business RESTRICTIONS MAKE BETTER CHARACTERS - Each operative is made more human by applying more or less restrictions on what they're willing to do for the cause, the easiest recruits to find generally have the most restrictions being unable of committing certain crimes and exposing themselves too much while the rarest are completely unrestricted in the actions they can do but other particularities are imposed onto them that restrict you from free roaming too long with them TIME IS IMPORTANT - Time is a mechanic now and one of those particularities I mentioned, some operatives will be unavailable for use at certain times of the day to at least imitate the fact people tend not to throw their lives away the moment they're boarded by some activist. The clock will run slower to allow you more time with a single operative and if you start a mission time limitations aren't counted but the potential introduction of time sensitive quests or time of day-based events will still make sure to make time relevant RECRUITMENT - To find a possible recruit in an area you either move up and down until you find a possible applicant or, well, activate a tower and you're periodically updated on new recruits. When you activate the recruitment process you're indicated to approach the person and give them a call, after the introductions you can decide to either control the character trough the recruitment process (randomized depending by their job occupation and skills) or auto-resolve and if they succeed they're good for use after 3 days to simulate Dedsec passing them trough their field guide WHAT TO KEEP - Some special recruits won't be put in a trial but rather Dedsec already knows their abilities (former MI6, expert hackers or militants), this has you accomplish favors for them like what's already in the game, similar in size to one of the favors you do for Raymond in the first SPECIAL RECRUITS - As mentioned above, these rare characters all have a significant story behind them and so are also held with greater regards in the number of voice lines they have and they're addressed by. Some may have a history with the Government and Albion which translates into you receiving side objectives when doing a mission to fullfill some of their interests SPICE THINGS UP - Like how you can invade the privacy of random civilians and hear their calls/read their messages, your operatives as you use them may happen to receive calls or messages partly to give them a soul and to also try and keep you entertained during low times (or high times, imagine being called by your wife in the middle of a chase and hearing your character try to find an excuse to discuss them later or maybe their phone rings in the middle of stealth) MERCS AND FIXERS - If you can't complete a mission with the operatives you have recruited and don't have the patience to find one but you do have a lot of money, you can hire a number of named fixers to complete some content. They have their own equipment, are paid by the hour and starting a mission with them also carries an added cost, completing a mission has them call it a day forcing you to swap away from them, and swapping from them will put you on a cooldown from calling them again MISSION FAILURES AND GETTING CAUGHT - Outside of crucial story missions, the game doesn't reload to a previous save in the case of failure but rather they will be apprehended and you will lose them permanently unless you have another operative that's able to, say, bust them out of the hospital from Albion surveillance or one of your other ops just so happens to be in proximity for them to intervene. If a fixer gets apprehended there's a 50-50 chance for them to be unavailable to call again until you complete the main story line, after that they will simply go on a very long cooldown and temporarily increase their employment price - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Something will also have to be done to give a reason for things to remain the same in the post-game, the idea of the war between Albion and Dedsec being unending with multiple randomized events still popping up is one, you don't want to risk having people 100% the game and then have nothing to do before they're even able to get halfway trough making their legion. There's also to point out the game is a train wreck in multiple areas, being unaccomplished in its main gimmick is only a small sin in all this and overall the game would've still been disappointing even with all these touches. The villains aren't in any way realistic, the stakes are so artificial the game feels like a saturday morning cartoon rather than a disturbingly realistic dystopia like the one represented in Watch Dogs 1 and 2, the logic behind it all is deeply flawed and you would need to delete a lot of the things which were said in the earlier titles for many things to make sense and they would still struggle a lot in doing so. Improving the "Legion" system would have at the very least made the game interesting due to this main gimmick but that's not the case.
Yeah, I really hated the first game's plot and Aiden's relationship with his family, but I really liked Aiden. I know he's essentially a Batman or Roschach rip off, but I still think he's really cool.
From what I've seen of the readable info in Sabine's evil lair, her motivations were similar to one of the Dave's from Watchdogs Bad Blood. She stands for the radical foundation of the older Dedsec, and wants to destroy the CTOS as a whole instead of using it. She had her allies killed because they didn't follow it's original principles of dismantling the system instead of just fighting against it. They certainly could of done a better job integrating that into the her actual dialogue instead of leaving her with vague lines that don't touch upon her motivation. Better yet, they could have given us a choice to decide if we want to help her or work against her. Makes more sense than choosing to let Skye Larsen live.
27:14 the dedsec operative in the first game says “we will be the watchdogs” on the news broadcast during the credits scene. or when they talk to aiden in “sometimes you still lose”. pretty sure it’s the former.
That's kinda what I thought. All the other villains, even Cass, at least feel like they have a place in the story or world (which is odd since 2 of them are red-hearings). Mary Kelly is just the typical villain psycho that just makes you wonder why literally anyone would work for her when she's clearly deranged with ZERO charisma
@@jameswest6232 if She has 0 charisma, She can't be like a far Cry villain. Those games RELY on the villain. The bad guy Is literally the First person the players sees in the trailers, not the protagonist.
sin removal 43-42 was honestly the best summary of the game. There is so much wrong with it and so much wasted potential, and it is made so much worse by the revelation half way through that they could have made something really cool if they didn't stash the interesting stuff away into 1.5 missions
I am just so tired playing for the rebels, can't we have a couple proper Empire stories T,T Good review as always. Gotta leave the choice for others though, because Miles and Valhalla are something I am actually interested in playing.
I played it with Aiden (who I love because he's pretty much punisher and I love punisher) and wrench (who's wrench) mainly Aiden because he had awesome abilities and to me the story made sense with him. The moment with Sabine where he kills her fits with Aiden. Doing this take back the city thing. It's stupid that a car salesman or janitor could be the one to do that badass shit.
I played it with Aiden too because he's my favourite and the phone trick he did at the end of Watch Dogs Legion to kill Sabine was a cool flashback to the ending of Watch Dogs one. I also edited Aiden to make him look younger like Watch Dogs one hahaha XD
Seeing how its a private security force using a terrorist threat/attack to rise and take control of a city (could have been the UK) really gave me COD Advanced Warfare flashbacks... sadly this game doesnt have a charismactic villain like Spacey.
Funny you mention an old man being given the SIRS phone, as I had my grandma character do that mission. When the phone was placed on the table she immediately said "I've already moved past flip phones you cheeky bastard!" Also, they name dropped the title of the game in the last mission of the first game.
Thank you, I'm glad someone finally else pointed out that despite it's flaws Watch_Dogs 1 was a good starting point to what could have been a good or even great franchise but was hit with the Unity treatment and instead of building on what they had they ditched it and 180 the whole thing. Hopefully on day Ubisoft sell the ip so a developer company who actually cares and can put effort and love into it will make watch dogs what it could be.
3:20 And even the job classes/tech don't really matter much because there's usually cargo drone or spider bot summoning spot nearby. Picking the right character for a job was basically pointless as they all played essentially the same. And let's not even get started on how dumb it is that Dedsec recruits any random schmuck off the streete, all of whom need barely any coaxing and completley trustworthy not to rat them out instead.
Here‘s my problem with these Gaming Sins videos. Quite a lot of the reasons are valid, especially the story holes (for example, Malik leading DedSec along while actively suspecting them to be Zero Day). But some others seem like nit-picking elements that could be explained with a little imagination. For example, Sabine going along with Malik‘s story about suspecting rogue SIRS agents or Emma Child to be affiliated with Zero Day. Logically, she wouldn‘t try to do anything to stop a red herring that was convenient for her. It keeps DedSec occupied with someone else, while she could be working on her own agenda in the background.
I think WatchDogs could get away with the line of site by saying the phones they use are limited in their range, so they have to be closer to what they have to hack. Also, they could have a system where you have access to a computer that allows you to have access to the entire city, but you need to access it with your phone so you can unlock it for computer access.
Forcing the player to make a choice that literally doesn't matter, without at the very least trying to make it profound (looking at you Bioshock), deserves more than 1 sin.
They reused the plot of the slave auction from the first game. Lucky Quinn-Mary Kelly. Both elderly crime lords Chicago South Club-Clan Kelly. Both almost run the entire city the game takes place in. Both abduct people and erase their public records from the CTOS system. Both auctions get taken down in about 3 or so missions and aren’t mentioned again despite being quite gruesome and important.
You forgot among the crashes the audio desync that bleeds into other games if u dont restart your system. Only happens with Legion & for a bit Valhalla.
Are these real British voice actors? The accents all sound like me doing a bad fake British accent, but I'm not British and can't say for sure that these are fake accents.
Another sin: if Malik wanted to take down ded sec, and he infiltrated them to do it, why not inform Albion who’s in ded sec, and pass on other Intel that would make it impossible for ded sec to continue to operate
@@matthieuleperlier251 that's what I heard. It's a shame because I was really looking forward for valhalla. From what I heard I think it's best for the elite edition or whatever to go on sale
I suppose also when it comes to the final mission where you race through London while the city around you goes to sh*t, is that how come Zero Day/ Sabine didn’t get Bagley to hack the “protagonist’s” car to run it off the road? She had multiple chances to kill off the “main protagonist” and complete her goal of a “Hard Reset” but decided to let you be able to have full control of a vehicle, that could easily be digitally hijacked, to get to Blume Tower and confront her? Plot Armour I suppose
8:12 You're going to lose social credit points for saying this. That aside, THANK YOU. Thank you for being someone who'll call these companies out for being "brave" with their attempted political rhetoric while also being nigh offensive to those they may or may not think they're "bravely" taking a stance for. God help us if they donated money to those causes (whoops, I guess they wouldn't be able to sell their games there anymore!). That'd require, oh what's this, a spine. They did this in Watch Dogs 2 aswell, taking DedSec from something related to actual terrorists to an all-inclusive college campus social group. (Personally I think a evil organization that is inclusive, ala the Galactic Empire in SW w/Rae Sloane, is more compelling)
You're not wrong to call out Ubisoft's hypocrisy (especially given what's been revealed this year), but there's just one problem: The game doesn't actually use social credit systems in its plot, at all. I have no idea where Dartigan got that from. And neither is the "European Processing Centre" a metaphor for China's treatment of the Uighur Muslims, but rather an anvilicious take on the Brexit-induced treatment of Europeans & immigrants, & the general xenophobia of people wanting them out of Britain (and it's both extremely blatant & half-assed, given this commentary never factors into the main plot at all, see Not Tonight instead for a better game that handles this scenario). I mentioned this elsewhere, but alas, it's Dartigan committing the same sin as the game: Putting the blame on someone else instead of actually addressing the issue.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla is actually a huge improvement over Odyssey. It doesn't have an overwhelming map with a bunch of useless padding and it balances the best elements of old and new Assassin's Creed games. Dartigan probably won't give it credit for that though. Ever since Kingdom Hearts he's just been overly cynical to every game he's played. I miss when this used to be more satirical like CinemaSins, now it's mostly just bitching for the sake of bitching
5:46 all the citizens of London in Watch Dogs Legion have government mandated optics installed that is the little micro chip on the side of all the characters heads. They mention it multiple times in the game.
You can tell with pinpoint precision where someone outside the grey, toothpaste-bland flavour writers triple A games are fond of using has collaborated when the goddamn AI has the best dialogue in the game(That someone would be Yathzee).
The proper sequel of this game is where the Drones and spider-robots used by these edgy gang-hacker Terrorists gain sentience and organize their own mini-uprising against their Human enslavers, foiling the Humans plans at staging their Human Uprising.

This is the most on point critique I've ever seen from Dartigan. Also, I watched his research gameplay on Twitch and was surprised to hear his voice in real time haha
Things i've found after playing this game: 1. Don't do recruitment missions. Just use the deep profiler and do the smaller tasks there. 2. A gun is the best melee weapon. Not batons, not bats. With a gun in your hand you could immediately execute someone after a bitch slap (or immediately if you're a hitman.) 3. Albion Elite Enforcer is the best stealth operative. They already got a special AR cloak, and you can stack it with the normal AR cloak. 4. If you wanna steal a car from someone, kindly insult the driver and wait for them to get out of their vehicle. Then politely steal their vehicle without having them hate Dedsec.

I must admit while I've kinda enjoyed Legion. I've not enjoyed it as much as I did with the original game and Watch Dogs 2. I think it's because that London isn't like the realistic versions of Chicago and San Francisco. Sure, the street layout might not be the same but as someone who can't travel over to America just yet due to funds, it was nice to explore realistic cities and I was looking forward to exploring London as I live in the East Anglia Reigon and never been to London except on a school trip years ago but it's just such an ugly version of the city. Too much neon and futuristic technology. I know the technology has always been pretty much futuristic with hacking line of sight mechanics but Legion just goes too far in my opinion. While not many people liked it; I miss the storyline similar to Aiden's of avenging a fallen family member killed by parties unknown. I just don't care about revolutions or helping expansive cities. At least in Watch Dogs 2; it was all leading to ruining Blume's reputation in some way. I'm just looking forward to Aiden's return alongside Wrench next year.

Edit: I think he could be a protagonist just on the fact that we play as him and he has a voice
You get to choose your own main character and customize them. This isn't a bad thing

Or the sad anticlimax of the watch dogs property as seen here.
TL;DR they kinda suck (also fuck Origin DRM), yet are hailed in the press as on the forefront of gaming innovation even though they haven't really innovated in like ten years. That's my take anyway.

For whatever reason it made me think of Cars 2 where Mator fucks his way up into becoming a british spy and everyome has an English accent.
the big issue is that they recorded the same lines with ~20 actors, then they used ai to modulate the voices and make more combinations. honestly the fact that the characters, their appearances, and their voices are all computer generated doesn't sit right with me. there's no compelling well-developed personalities like wd2 (and even wd1 to a lesser extent)
I feel like it's going to be a lot of typing at the wind but I wanted to get my piece of mind spelt out on a possible way Ubi could've made the Legion thing work:
MAIN CHARACTERS - They're there and they're playable, but playing as one is like setting a campfire in a fireworks factory due to the strict security systems around the city and heat being almost impossible to shake off once you get it unless you run off in a shelter, so for the most part you're coerced into recruiting people who are able to walk around freely. In some parts of the story you will be forced to play them in order to have a character progression, mostly to act on a personal matter or inner circle business
RESTRICTIONS MAKE BETTER CHARACTERS - Each operative is made more human by applying more or less restrictions on what they're willing to do for the cause, the easiest recruits to find generally have the most restrictions being unable of committing certain crimes and exposing themselves too much while the rarest are completely unrestricted in the actions they can do but other particularities are imposed onto them that restrict you from free roaming too long with them
TIME IS IMPORTANT - Time is a mechanic now and one of those particularities I mentioned, some operatives will be unavailable for use at certain times of the day to at least imitate the fact people tend not to throw their lives away the moment they're boarded by some activist. The clock will run slower to allow you more time with a single operative and if you start a mission time limitations aren't counted but the potential introduction of time sensitive quests or time of day-based events will still make sure to make time relevant
RECRUITMENT - To find a possible recruit in an area you either move up and down until you find a possible applicant or, well, activate a tower and you're periodically updated on new recruits. When you activate the recruitment process you're indicated to approach the person and give them a call, after the introductions you can decide to either control the character trough the recruitment process (randomized depending by their job occupation and skills) or auto-resolve and if they succeed they're good for use after 3 days to simulate Dedsec passing them trough their field guide
WHAT TO KEEP - Some special recruits won't be put in a trial but rather Dedsec already knows their abilities (former MI6, expert hackers or militants), this has you accomplish favors for them like what's already in the game, similar in size to one of the favors you do for Raymond in the first
SPECIAL RECRUITS - As mentioned above, these rare characters all have a significant story behind them and so are also held with greater regards in the number of voice lines they have and they're addressed by. Some may have a history with the Government and Albion which translates into you receiving side objectives when doing a mission to fullfill some of their interests
SPICE THINGS UP - Like how you can invade the privacy of random civilians and hear their calls/read their messages, your operatives as you use them may happen to receive calls or messages partly to give them a soul and to also try and keep you entertained during low times (or high times, imagine being called by your wife in the middle of a chase and hearing your character try to find an excuse to discuss them later or maybe their phone rings in the middle of stealth)
MERCS AND FIXERS - If you can't complete a mission with the operatives you have recruited and don't have the patience to find one but you do have a lot of money, you can hire a number of named fixers to complete some content. They have their own equipment, are paid by the hour and starting a mission with them also carries an added cost, completing a mission has them call it a day forcing you to swap away from them, and swapping from them will put you on a cooldown from calling them again
MISSION FAILURES AND GETTING CAUGHT - Outside of crucial story missions, the game doesn't reload to a previous save in the case of failure but rather they will be apprehended and you will lose them permanently unless you have another operative that's able to, say, bust them out of the hospital from Albion surveillance or one of your other ops just so happens to be in proximity for them to intervene. If a fixer gets apprehended there's a 50-50 chance for them to be unavailable to call again until you complete the main story line, after that they will simply go on a very long cooldown and temporarily increase their employment price
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Something will also have to be done to give a reason for things to remain the same in the post-game, the idea of the war between Albion and Dedsec being unending with multiple randomized events still popping up is one, you don't want to risk having people 100% the game and then have nothing to do before they're even able to get halfway trough making their legion.
CDgonePotatoes Honestly, a way better concept that what was actually given to us!
Loved all of this; well said!

Dedsec said “we will be your watchdogs” at the climax of the first game, so one of your sins at least is void

You're not wrong to call out Ubisoft's hypocrisy (especially given what's been revealed this year), but there's just one problem: The game doesn't actually use social credit systems in its plot, at all. This is the most on point critique I've ever seen from Dartigan. Also, I watched his research gameplay on Twitch and was surprised to hear his voice in real time haha
Very dulcet & soothing, huh?
Optics is why Bagley knows, it records everything you see, and optics is how AR tech is able to been seen.
Also how AR Cloak works
This game is just a big "we live in a society" meme
Things i've found after playing this game:
1. Don't do recruitment missions. Just use the deep profiler and do the smaller tasks there.
2. A gun is the best melee weapon. Not batons, not bats. With a gun in your hand you could immediately execute someone after a bitch slap (or immediately if you're a hitman.)
Ubisoft never fails to disappoint…
27:14 incorrect, in the first game at the end right before Aiden causes the mass blackout DedSec contacts him asking him to give them 30 seconds inside CTOS so that they will be the “Watch Dogs”
Bagley knows Sabine is Zero-Day, that is why he never used his godlike abilities to track down Zero-Day.
That bit about the National Guard immediately made The Division come to mind lol
18:39 I believe the Liaison changes sexuality each playthrough because during mine she was Only attracted to the male Operative I sent after getting rejected as a female character
It does
The moment that lady started threatening her employee for taking initiative, was that the actual fucking voice acting going on? That sounded ridiculous to me
I must admit while I've kinda enjoyed Legion.
Same
I beat 90% of this game with just the spider drone and it crashed 18 times and you can’t pick songs you want to play like in previous games
Stick to the first game. It's more fulfilling. Graphics are the same, too.
I was so hyped for this game I bought it day 1, I can’t begin to explain how disappointed I am😖
Man, that parkour in the background at 14:32
Perfect game to cure insomnia.
If whatever next game set in the US doesn't call their AI "Foamy" I'm going to be disappointed...
WATCH DOGS LEGION AND MAFIA DEFINITELY EDITION IS MY GOTY
Red dead 2 was the last actually good game I have come across
Game deserves at least 50 sins for naming the northern character ‘nowt’.
