    Really good summary, thanks. I’ve been doing Audax for about ten years and never knew it started in Italy. When you said about ‘routes being lovingly prepared by local cyclists who want to show off the best of their own country’.....that’s it in a nutshell. I just hope post lockdown it can recapture some of its laid back sociable nature.

      Thanks for your comment. I agree with you! The social aspect is very important. Riding with friends, mates or new acquaintances is definitely part of it. ATB👍🏼

    Nice to see some of the iceni Velo guys and the awesome Iceni Velo Kit that looks so professional. Just realised the Mr Swindells lives in the same town as me, I will look out on my bike rides for him so I can say Hi!
    I must try an Audax at some point next year now I'm gaining my fitness back.

    • @divum

      Arh! The indefatigable Mr Swindells gets around the place! A man-cycling-machine!
      Thanks for the kit compliment - yes it looks good on club rides. I'm glad I may have helped to inspire you to do an Audax!
      Keep working at the fitness and good luck.

    I did my first last month, local event was 115km but by the time I'd ridden to the start & back added up to 145km - 1,800m of elevation though...
    Signed up to a local 200km next month, then when I looked at the route plan it's nearer 3,000m - reckon 3 cafe's 🙂

    • @divum
      @divum  3 роки тому

      Thanks Rob for your suggestions! I don't think John needs any advice, cos he's a man-machine when it comes to riding! He just rode 326.42 km (in March) at average speed of 32.2 kph!!!! 10 hours on his bike.
      But for me....YES I agree with you,,,😁

  • @johnp6404
    @johnp6404 4 роки тому

    Excellent summary. An average of 15kph. Sounds easy hu! Don't be fooled, particularly on the long ones where some sort of kip is necessary really...and the clock keeps ticking. My tip is NO FAFFING at the controls. Time simply drains away at the checkpoints so - off the bike, stamp, eat, drink, continue. go-go-go. In the UK, garages are audax savours but do not rely on these in Europe.

    Nice video and well done. My first Audax was a 100km DIY couple of weeks ago. Still hoping to get a 200km ride in before end of year, but depends on favourable weather, and it will have to be another DIY for now. What camera(s) did you use?

    Sorry another question; I can understand the minimum speed of 15kmph but why a maximum of 30kmph

    • @divum
      @divum  4 роки тому +2

      I believe they impose a maximum speed mainly to dissuade racing. But also to create expected windows of opportunity at the check points. It allows Marshallers to plan when to get to & open a check point and when to close it.
      Thanks for the questions and thanks for watching 👍🏼

      Here are the stats according to STRAVA! !
      203.95 km
      7:32 moving
      9:11 total time start to finish
      27.1 kph average
      180 average power

      @Paddystyx 4 роки тому

      DIVUM cheers for that. That changes my view if I was going to try one. I’d have to up my average speed a good bit. I think I’ll have to get back on the bike more often, 😂. I really appreciate your video and your reply. All the best in the future and thanks.
