Most likely a splinter must have stuck beneath the fabric of the tyre causing multiple punctures; Nevertheless it was wonderful and you guys brought all the fun with you. You could and should enjoy more of these in the future; In the meantime, hope you made a safe return home. Take care, see you soon Juliet! 😄 🌞 👋
The thing I love about audaxes is finding new routes near me that I'd not seen before. It's so easy to just retread the routes you know and like, and to find that there's a road that's even nicer is just fabulous. I've also discovered a fair few really lovely country pubs. Win win.
Loved the cunning ploy of “puncturing” near a pub, twice😂 Your laughing and smiling were fantastic, enjoyed your sense of humour👍 Can make any ride feel like a breeze😊 Thanks for sharing🤘🏼
First audax in your local area... I knew you'd be eating your own words. That's the beauty of riding audax as you discovered they really do explore and open your eyes to new lanes and ways to get about even in your local area. Aside from those punctures - you definitely enjoyed it!
Done my first audaxes this year and really enjoyed them. Great way to get motivated. Much cheaper and more friendly than a sportive. Some use an e-brevet phone app to record the controls instead of a card. But why so many punctures?
Looks fun. I’ve been tubeless for about 3 years and definitely never going back to tubes. Whatever the tubeless haters say, in my experience it is way, way more reliable than tubes. I count the distance between punctures in thousands of miles.
I have liners in my tires with tubes. I haven't had a flat since I put them in. But I think if I hit something on the side wall it will puncture the tube!
Or dax and brave et but thankfully no one minds just enjoy the rides. Once though you achieved a super randonneur there is always the opportunity to become an anciens and do it all again on a trike
I was put off trying an audax after an experience a few years ago when a friend and I were doing a sportive and got a bit lost in a town. We stopped to ask a nearby group of cyclists if they were also doing the sportive, and the woman closest looked at me as if I'd insulted her. She said icily "No, we're doing an audax" and turned her back, and the rest of the group ignored us entirely. I was given the impression that audax people thought they were a cut above and it wasn't for the likes of us lowly sportive types! Perhaps we should try one and hope to meet a nicer bunch of people 😏. Glad you enjoyed yours though, despite those pesky inner tubes! 😊
I've given up tubed tyres, weekly punctures and sometimes multiple per day if e.g. glass stayed hidden in the tyre belting. One year on tubeless and never been stopped on a ride.
Frustrating...Had to change a girlfriends flat 3 times on a short ride before we finally discovered a very well hidden thorn that was imbedded in the tube. Not visible from the outside as it had worn off flush with the tire casing and the inside showed no evidence except to have firmly rubbed the inside for the 100th time and barely felt it's little point barely sticking out. Needed a microscope to have seen it. It was larger once removed but what a problem it was. Always find the corresponding place on the tire that matches up with the the damage on the tube and look and feel very hard.
You and Sam look so happy, it’s lovely! Xx
Thank you xx

Great to see Audaxing get a bit of exposure. If its any comfort I DNF'd an audax last weekend too. But had fun doing it.
Looks like you both had fun despite the punctures👍🏻👍🏻 Hope you have a wonderful day!!!
Thank you, we did.
The audax is very nifty idea -wish we had something like that here! Cool ride!
Love your videos around beautiful Devon😊
Thank you!!
Stickers and stamps and type two fun! Welcome. ☺
Yes Jules great to see more of Sam, looked to be enjoyed even if you had to cut it short x

But why so many punctures?
Agree it’s better than a sportive!
I think it’s because sam borrowed the bike from someone and the tyres had perished. Not sure
That was a nice spin 🍺
Bleddy punctures. Really unlucky. Love Audax! more crazy and audacious the better.
I was first back to cricket club. Go me lol
Well done, how long did it take?
@@JulietElliottsChannel 4 hours. Bit slippy in the lanes.
Was a fun route
That looks like a fun day on the bike ! Sorry about the outcome !! 😢 BTW purple is your color !!
You had fun; that’s the main thing!
I want the do some audaxes in Belgium next year.
Do they have them?

We agree!

Terrible admin!!! I'd have chosen the pub!!!❤
Welcome to the dark side! I attempted my first PBP a few weeks back. A DNF but awesome experience.
amazing, will you go back and have another go next time?
@@JulietElliottsChannel I'd love to have another go. Need more practice with sleep deprivation and heat training in case it's that warm again.

sorry to hear that. Not my experience at all!

agreed, same here
Thorns?
Nice to know someone has skinnier legs than myself. 😁
Ha I know 😆 Those skinny legs are very fast at getting up hills tho!
@@JulietElliottsChannel
So are my toothpicks!
Cheers!😁
Folding chairs have better legs.
Looks fun - except for the punctures.... Go tubeless Sam!
It was a borrowed bike. Tubeless for the win!
You should have just swapped wheels and sent him on his way 😂 Anyway, tubeless is the future. 👍 PBP 2027?
I think he was happy eating pizza and dunking beer!
Yes, that’s the plan!
6:40 waaaait a minute, so he got another "puncture" ... while sitting ... at the pub? Okay got it. (Sam wins this round.)
Haha well… he didn’t notice till he’d drunk the half and we stood up to go to the ferry.
@@JulietElliottsChannel haha (okay) but keep an eye on this character, henceforth to be referred to as _Way Too Clever Sam_ 🧐😛
😆 sounds like a first 100k! Have him REALLY earn it next time and ride the rest home on a flat! U know, for knowledge! 😆 💪🤪
Audi Cars used to be pronounced in Scotland in the 70's as AW DAY ...no use on your audax pronunciation ! 😀
Lets go tubeless next time!
Finally 😂 you're not a proper cyclist until you Audax 😊

First here, for the BLA BLA BLA 😂.
You should make him walk home
The correct pronouncation is "odax" (simple O sound at the beginning) and "brevé" (simple é sound, don't pronounce the t at the end).
…and beguinning is pronounced Guinness! 😂
What the fuzz? How many punctures on one ride? I've never ridden a road bike, but also I got 2 punctures in 4 years of riding 🤔
I think the tyres were old and the bike had been in storage. Sam borrowed it from a friend
Lorra lorra punctures, as cilla would say.
