Man, I can't believe how Dean Parks just slays that song on the Acoustic. Tim sounds awesome as well, what a performance. I've watched this about 20 times.
Tim we share a similar story. I worked in Hollywood for years doing small studio production and had seen Dean around town over a twenty five year period but we never meet. Back in 2009-2010 I had a Guytron 100watt head and the two open and closed back 2x12 Cabs for sale in Craigslist O.C. Dean called one day and said he wanted to check it all out. He drove down to our house and I suddenly realized Dean Parks was in my living room and I had to demo the amp for him. Thank God the wife got a picture of us together .He is a lovely man and is so humble and down to earth. He used the new rig on the Crosby Stills Nash tour I believe.
I love the little shy acknowledgement of how big a part of your life Dean Parks was. Sometimes I think that he doesn't get how big he is in the scheme of things! Thanks for incidentally showcasing him!
I'm a vocalist ...this is what we call a "singy song" ... it is absolute joy for the vocalist... but not so easy for guitar..."if i could change the world ...You would think that i was really something good" ..Probably the most relatable lyric every put to paper.. Beautiful work, Mr Parks... You are def. In your authentic purpose. thanks Tim
More Dean Parks, please! Love watching two masters go over the classics. Life is short, take advantage of opportunity. There is not enough Dean Parks on youtube - Dean and You make an Awesome masterclass
Wonderful. The sheer humility of these two is something to behold. Tim's smile at 'The Master's' harmonious G at 2.15 is priceless. Obi Wan Parks needs no flamboyance...the magic will find you!
such beauty in the simplicity of dean's solo. that quick little dissonant couple of notes these guys have such perfect time tim sneaking in and out all over the place what a pro
So cool to hear the story behind my favorite song. I've always loved the sound of the acoustic guitar in that song and man oh man you can tell right away it was him. Incredible.
this is the ultimate kind of video for working dog guitar players who just want a glimpse into a real guitar players world. Thanks for this upclose, personal, and instructional video.
@Time Pierce Guitar, there is nothing like that sweet Tim Pierce tone, period. I loved the Michael English Gospel album you played on. I was absolutely sold that you were an amazing musician and did that album so much justice!
Dean seems like the nicest guy on earth. He is like the brain surgeon you would want working on your noggin, no bedside manners, but all business and the absolute top master at his craft. Hahahahahaha
So great when I can see a legend and take a lesson at the same time... I must have rewinded 50-ish times working on the song before I actually watched the (excellent) video all the way through. Thanks, Tim. P.S. I am one of Tim's Masterclass students, and I can tell you all firsthand - the content is SO worth it. So, one guy's endorsement, FWIW.
Dude, Dean absolutely KILLS. You can just hear, like, if you were to make an algorithm that played acoustic guitar backing perfectly every time, you'd basically model it after Dean Parks. Seeing this is all I need to know why he's a legend
I always thought that Eric Clapton song was unusual, not really his style of lyric writing, so this reveals it - Great post and how wonderful to be able to see inside the esoteric world of session playing.
I watched this when it first came out and am watching again because it's so good. I love the D#-E lick Dean plays in his solo. It's perfect and sounds awesome.
Nice track, and really appreciated the interview chat at the end. Great and yet humble story about Dean playing guitar for James Taylor in South America too, what an honor.
Dean Parks! What a Legend! I met Mr. Parks in 1982 when he was playing with Koinonia at the Backed Potato...a true gentleman and fantastic musician. Thanks for this Tim & Dean! 😊
A thang of musically inspired Artistry and beauty...this vid made miy day as I struggle w living in a homeless shelter and turning 71 in March...while still awaiting my first job as a psychotherapist- having graduated in 2017 at age 65
Oh, my God! Even as a life-long fan of EC, I never thought much of this song (this was in the soundtrack of some John Travolta movie) until today. Beautiful.
I was 10 years old when this song came out and those opening chords were one of the things that inspired me to learn guitar. 27 years later I'm finally getting around to learning it!
Amazing to see. And really interesting how Dean totally sits _inside_ the pocket, while Tim sits slightly _ahead_ of the beat. At times the gap is huge! (Relatively speaking)
Thanks Tim, great pairing. As they might say in the wine shops, 'maple with rosewood accents and a spruce finish." Another humble, gentle man with a huge talent. I can see Dean with JT fitting right in.
Oh My God.... What an amazing musical treat by the amazing musicians...... MAY GOD BLESS ALL THE MUSICIANS AND THE WHOLE WORLD..... May the world be filled with love, beautiful music and beautiful peoples.....
Watched Dean Parks vid years ago where he showed off his Strat with DeTemple pickups...the next day I sent my Strat to Mike DeTemple and had him go through it...that guitar sounds as good now as it did then, only need to change strings. Dean is great!
Saw Dean Parks with Crosby and Nash about 13 yrs ago...blew my mind...all the riffs were perfect CSN and Y sound..it was like Stills was there! What a player!
3:30 am can’t turn it off …I am trying to learn to play guitar at 59 and I always discover a great (guitar)song in the middle of the night, but cannot practice it bc every one in the house is asleep..thank you 🙌🏼🎸
I can understand why Dean is the go to guitar man, he has just such a wonderful laid back and lovely relaxed style of playing, I think as singer I would just Trust his musicality without question, you know what I mean ? he obviously instils a trust that's almost telepathic from musician to vocalist, musician to musician. As a person that plays and sings and I get to play and sing with some of the best in my regional area in Australia. That truly is hard to find. Thank you guys I just learned how to play this lovely song along with you.
Hi Cheryl . I saw and liked you Comment . I am from Australia 🇦🇺 Also . Can you help . I need know how Dean Plays those little Turnaround Bass runs . Notes Ect . It’s to quick for me to work out . ,. ? Thanks
This is so full of music, technically not overloaded with thousands of notes but still brilliant. Well I am bit jealous of those guys having one of you guys as a personally guitar teacher. Thanks for sharing, it is always a pleasure to watch your videos, showing us what it means to do music while playing guitar. God bless you guys!
definitely changed the world... not even Chett Atkins thought of that kind of composition ... so wonderful that this can be done from home these days with the technology in the living room..
This is the real talent behind all those take my money records... thank you Tim for letting us in the musical wonderland. God bless you and stay healthy.
I discovered Tone-Talk just about a month ago and it is how I discovered Tim. Great episode that was! I didn't want the music to stop on this video! I could listen to it for hours
This is what I pray Heaven will be like... sitting in and playing with the likes of Tim, Dean and all the Greats, while God is tapping his toes and swaying to the music. If it is, then take me now, Lord. Thanks for posting, Tim...
I've learned so much from this one song....both in ear training and applied theory. It really makes you a better guitar play, if you just stick to it. Amazingly, its also very forgiving----lots of things work even if you're not playing it exactly like these two great professionals.
3:02 is where my mind gets blown every time. I don't have an electric guitar and I always think that I can't play cool licks on an acoustic that still sound awesome and powerful, but this proves me wrong.
This is wonderful, I love musicians interviewing musicians, you seem to get the best from one another, even better with guitar in hand! Thank you Tim, (I very much enjoyed your Tim and Pete show with Lari too...)
Man, I can't believe how Dean Parks just slays that song on the Acoustic. Tim sounds awesome as well, what a performance. I've watched this about 20 times.
Tim always looks like he’s having the best time of his life whenever he’s playing. That’s when you know you were made for something.
Know what you mean
WOW!! This is a HUGE treat Tim!! Thanks for getting Dean to do this!
Yes! Thank you all so much!
ua-cam.com/video/txaa1XjNtcQ/v-deo.html
Definitely! I have watched this video numerous times. Dean’s playing is amazing
This version is so good it made me forget there were vocals on this song.
2 super modest great guitarist, humbly thanking each other, while setting the bar as high as possible. Peace and Maximum Respect
2:08 - Gotta love the synchronized hand wave!
That is so cool, thanks for pointing that out!

It’s amazing to sit in the room as two music legends jam and then chat about the old days. Thank you Tim.
He left the tuner on the headstock. Beato's havin a STROKE!!!
In your authentic purpose. thanks Tim
One of my favorite songs when it came out. Great to hear it again after years, from the guy that actually played it.
More Dean Parks, please! Love watching two masters go over the classics. Life is short, take advantage of opportunity. There is not enough Dean Parks on youtube - Dean and You make an Awesome masterclass
Tim's tone is absolutely gorgeous...
That tone he gets with his fingers. To die for.
After all of my years in LA, I met Dean Parks at Winter NAMM in Anaheim in 2019. We hung out for about an hour. Nobody recognizes him!! Great guy!!
Dean sounds and feels incredible on that acoustic guitar track!! His articulate touch makes his tone sound so beautiful on that acoustic!
the minute his fingers touched the strings you can hear its the fingers and guitar that played that part. *goosebumps*
I NEVER tire of listening to and watching this clip. It’s inspiring to watch both of you playing together.
Tim you're a national treasure, thank you for sharing. That was really amazing hearing/seeing you and Dean playing.
Wonderful. The sheer humility of these two is something to behold. Tim's smile at 'The Master's' harmonious G at 2.15 is priceless. Obi Wan Parks needs no flamboyance...the magic will find you!
Two real gentlemen. So nice to see how friendly they are.
such beauty in the simplicity of dean's solo. that quick little dissonant couple of notes
these guys have such perfect time

WOW!! such a pair of humble musicians!!
Wow indeed! The "legend" Dean Parks, so smooth ( playing) & so unassuming. I am humbled, just watching.
I can't believe this 2 masters man I wish we had these videos in the early 80s...Roland J Gutierrez from Magdalena New Mexico USA.
I've been a big fan of Dean for many years. Suprised to know he did this tune...a true masterpiece thanks Tim
Brings out sweet memories. A good song from real musicians, never knew it's origin like this. Thank you both!
So cool to hear the story behind my favorite song. I've always loved the sound of the acoustic guitar in that song and man oh man you can tell right away it was him. Incredible.
Great video. Thank you
The guitar music is absolutely beautiful. I've listened to it about 50 times. Thanks.
Thank you Tim for showing the brilliance of Dean Parks musicianship and mastery of this great song.
this is the ultimate kind of video for working dog guitar players who just want a glimpse into a real guitar players world. Thanks for this upclose, personal, and instructional video.
I love the work of these two awesome guitarists with JOE COCKER!
2:20 Dean nod to Tim .... go ahead and solo !! AWESOME
Very much enjoyed this video. I love the humility of both of you as players, it's why you have lasted in the industry!
humble, and a huge talent. the two guitars sound great together. thats 2 people listening to each other and giving the song what it needs. superb
Great track - stunningly well performed. Thanks for sharing such wonderful skill and talent.
The lead line from 2:30-2:40 is just dripping!
Agree Harold. Do you know the Notes I can’t work it out🤔
@Time Pierce Guitar, there is nothing like that sweet Tim Pierce tone, period. I loved the Michael English Gospel album you played on. I was absolutely sold that you were an amazing musician and did that album so much justice!
Thank You Dean, this was a rare treat to watch this being played by The Man and the guitar that laid it down.
2 of my long time heroes playing this wonderful tune. Divine.
Dean seems like the nicest guy on earth. He is like the brain surgeon you would want working on your noggin, no bedside manners, but all business and the absolute top master at his craft. Hahahahahaha

That had to be a great gig, come in and sing and play lead over a great rack. All the work is already done!
You win the internet with this one Tim and Dean! Magnificent!!!
I forgot how beautiful that song is. Also Nathan Easts bass line on this. Is about as perfect a line gets.
Dean is a brilliant player. So under appreciated. His solo was great- beautiful and understated.
.
What a legend! Glad to see he's still around and playin' up a storm. Great episode! 👍
Musical and elegant , open, and simply sophistication
the electric is so subtle it creates a magic feeling complementing that acoustic, amazing
I watched this when it first came out and am watching again because it's so good. I love the D#-E lick Dean plays in his solo. It's perfect and sounds awesome.
Beautiful, deep , mellow acoustic guitar sound.
Dean Parks! Is THE Man.
Oh lord! that was amazing. So relaxing heard you guys.
This is an example of perfection.
Great video. Props to Gordon Kennedy and Tommy Simms for their writing skills on this song.
Nice track, and really appreciated the interview chat at the end. Great and yet humble story about Dean playing guitar for James Taylor in South America too, what an honor.

Yes and if I could have re-done my part I would’ve laid it back absolutely
Thanks Tim, great pairing. As they might say in the wine shops, 'maple with rosewood accents and a spruce finish." Another humble, gentle man with a huge talent. I can see Dean with JT fitting right in.
I have long been a fan of Dean Parks and really enjoyed sitting in on this graceful catch up.
DP is not what I expected! These are gentlemen both, and huge talents. It's great to see mutual respect.
Oh My God.... What an amazing musical treat by the amazing musicians...... MAY GOD BLESS ALL THE MUSICIANS AND THE WHOLE WORLD..... May the world be filled with love, beautiful music and beautiful peoples.....
His solo on Rita Coolidge's We're All Alone is one of my favorite guitar solos of all time.

Two great guitar players!! I can see the admiration of one another's guitar abilities!! Great Playing!! Thanks Tim for posting this! Best always, jp
Dean, thanks for all the great music over the years. I’ve enjoyed so many of your tracks and additions to favorite songs.
