The Panasonic Lumix S1H video camera is amazing and very cinematic for sure! I thought I'd upload this quick video I made answering a lot of questions I had about this camera in case someone else has the same questions. Let me know in your comments below what you think about the camera as well as which lens Autofocuses the best: 1. either Lumix 24-105 mm f/4 or 2. Lumix S Pro 50mm f/1.4 3. Also let me know which Autofocus Speed/Sensitivity settings you think work the best!
My thoughts are that this would be the perfect camera if it had Autofocus as good as Canon/Sony, but it's not totally horrible either - just not always reliable. I have in the past used Canon, GH5 cameras for my personal Music Videos, dogs, family, and as part of the film projects I do as a drama teacher where I need children to autofocus easily by tapping the viewfinder. I want a very high quality cinematic looking camera that also has good Autofocus and this is the best most affordable cinematic camera, although not cheap. I had lots of questions about how well it worked with Autofocus in both Human/Animal detection mode. Yes! Unlike Sony which only has Autofocus for Animals in Photo mode, Lumix S1H has Autofocus for Animals in both Photos and Video! I was excited to find this out! And I think it works very well! How well it works for humans, is still a question for me. Hopefully Panasonic will get their act together and make Autofocus a priority for those of us who need to use it for various reasons. Another thing it does (that the GH5 does not do) is you can change the priority of who/what you are prioritizing the Autofocus on simply by tapping the screen with your finger. (Canon has that feature I loved as well). So let me know your thoughts below!

Randy B Thank you so much!! It was fun. I filmed it in 6K, but when I uploaded it on UA-cam it was only in 1080. They used to do 4K. Not sure what changed on UA-cam about that. I have been away for a while. Any opinion on which lens you like better? Or settings?
@@ElizabethSouth I think the 24-105 is definitely the quickest focusing, but once focused the 50 is hard to beat. They both have wonderful clarity, but I think the 50 is slightly better? Maybe? :-) At least with the lighting in your classroom. Would love to see the differences outside at dusk and also midday? Hint, Hint!

It's leagues better than the gh4/gh5, but thats not saying much. If it were me, I could see myself getting super frustrated when editing my video to see the camera constantly pulsing like this.
If you need better autofocus then try 60p. You can then edit it to 24p or 30p(drop frames) or slow it down. The autofocus should be better
I also noticed those slight ambient color shifting happened at 00:17,00:39,00:51,2:19,3:27. if lighting is consistent during your video shooting, this can be easily solved by setting whiteballance manually.

Profis needs profi technoque - that's clear! I think you have chosen the best that´s on the market right now and that's good. We look forward to your unforgettable videos! And by the way your video is not only entertaining but also very informative! The "animal function" is probably needed in the case of fast movements of animals. In other words - I don't need this feature for a turtle. Right?
Elizabeth South ´s Fan Club If something doesn’t move, you could probably tap to focus fine without it. But for any animal that moves at all, even slowly, it recognizes it with a box that follows the animal. I don’t think the camera would focus on a turtle anyway. I think it’s mostly for dogs and cats and birds. I’m not sure what other animals it may do. I would have to try it out.
nice gear! actually I'm considering puchasing this camera too. when you shoot this footage, did you set the shutter angle at 180 degree? to my eyes, the motion blur is a little flickering
Autofocus is not problem of the camera, problm is in making, because they made this camera with contrast base autofocus

Awesome! I really love it. It also takes some really great photos. I got into it because of my own music videos and I was interested in making my own with a really good cinematic camera. This camera is even Netflix approved for making TV shows/movies. And it really does a beautiful job. I have the 50 mm 1.4 lens that really does a fantastic job. I’ve used the Canon cameras which are great. And I have the GH5, which led me eventually to this one. So I just did a lot of research by googling the best cameras for cinematic looks. This camera has lots of great low light capabilities and incredible depth of field with stabilization. It just looks great. One reviewer said that back in the day this would have been like a $40,000 camera for all it can do. I wish the autofocus was as fast as the Canon, but it really isn’t too awful either. And when you use the camera, it just makes everything look great! Thank you for subscribing!

Pretty interesting video! I think that 24-105 has the best autofocus, I didn't see any improvements changing the values of sensitivity or speed, just more problems. Do you will shoot your next videos with S1H? Because I've seen your youtube channel and it lacks of recent videos, so I will wait to see some examples of your music videos. @@ElizabethSouth you're welcome! Did you know that today was presented the 1DX Mark III? Just a preview, but it could be a better solution for autofocus. I own a EOS C200, but it's so heavy that I use it barely, maybe a 1DX MK III could be a better choice, but I've read that before the end of 2019 there will be some firmware updates for Lumix cameras, maybe also for S1H. Cheers! :-)
Danilo Del Tufo I saw that but the 1DX doesn’t have Animal detection and not as video centric. Plus, I already have the Canon EOS R which is fantastic! Getting that would be too similar. The LUMIX has so much more to offer. If they would nail the autofocus, it would be the perfect camera!
I'm a Lumux GH5 / GH5s / S1 owner. I love Panasonic. Saying that, for your needs and uses you should have bought a Sony A7 lll that has great AF & low light
No IBIS on A7iii plus limited codec options.
With my eyes, The stripes were a huge distraction, my eyes started to water. The stripes always seemed to be out of sync and moving oddly I just could not focus well on much else.

Ensian Blåfugl Aww, haha! Awesome! It’s a great camera. I also used it on my “Into the Unknown” video with the 50mm lens and the autofocus did very well. No fast movements. 😂

Yes, I agree! I do hope they will continue to improve the autofocus though. They probably will. But still an amazing camera. Yes, cinematic.
It seems it’s slow with catching up, as if it can track you reasonably well in good light but the actual adjustments take a while.
I bet it falls apart even more in low light because that’s going to be all the data they can use to base their focusing on. There’s only so much you can do with phase detection, even if it’s backed by artificial intelligence.
People say continuous autofocus is for amateurs but I disagree, it’s great for the new style of shooting video.
As long as Panasonic is not performing well on that front I am keeping my wallet closed. Hopefully they will use their investments in time-to-flight sensors or phase detection in the next wave of cameras.

6K is 24p. The autofocus won't be where you want it until you're recording at 60p. 120p in 1080 should be even faster, probably faster than Sony.

I think I agree. However, I do use the 50mm for my music videos if not moving too much and it has more bokeh which looks more cinematic. But I agree autofocus is way better on 24-105.
