That is the truest and wisest statement I believe I've ever read. I know I'm personally terrified of swallowing a pin, and while I don't think I'd die, I'm not exactly eager to find out.
I so want to create a tiny paper corset as a desk decoration, now. Or perhaps many tinier ones as Christmas tree ornaments. Yes, I am a bizarre human. I’ve always loved the 1890’s. My great-grandmother on my mother’s side was a young woman at the time. My family tends to have children quite late in life, so while I’m only 45, my grandfather would be 116, and his mother 155. It’s amazing to have heard first-hand accounts of how she dressed, and that she wore a corset into the 1930’s preferring it to other undergarments. Your mock-up has a beautiful shape, and I’m certain will be stunning when the final garment is complete. I eagerly await the next installment. Thank you very much for a bit of outstanding entertainment. Much love, and be well.
That is the BEST idea I've ever heard. My Christmas tree this year might just be filled with hundreds of tiny paper Symington corsets. That's such a wonderful connection to the 1890s. She sounds like she was absolutely amazing! I wish I had more firsthand accounts of things like that from family members, but the generations before me never passed anything like that down. Thank you so much!

That mockup is too perfect to be a mockup! I thought it was the final garment! Beautiful work on the corset and I can't wait to see what ensemble you make to go over it!

Just found your channel, love your videos, hope you pop back up to make more! I'm an 1890s-1910s newbie sewing enthusiast with some thrown in 1930s-1950s cloths because why not. I need to make a corset and am horrified to do so-still very new to sewing, so I keep procrastinating and making chemise (shifts, etc) through the centuries instead.
I love finding new costubers to watch. And I love your narrative style too. The humor, the honesty, the conversation style. Keep it up! (And now subscribed)
I love your commentary. It made me laugh a few times. I am American, living in Norway, and currently, hand stitching a new knitting project back because that seems highly logical for a cabbage material bag of not-a-damn-bit-spectacular item. Welcome to UA-cam. Can't wait to keep watching.
Thank you so much, I'm so happy you liked it! That is so cool! I've never been to Norway, but I really want to go one day! It seems like it's absolutely beautiful.
My initial training came from my Nana (trained as a tailoress). She taught me to sew over pins. My initial professional training was in fashion. They taught me mostly to machine without pins, but that if you have a tricky shape where you need to pin, to sew over them. And then I studied hat making at art school, and when we did the machine sewn part of the course, they taught us to - you guessed it - sew over the pins!
Hello! 😊 Those are what I have in my little fabric paper weights, and you’re correct they really can do wonders! I’m afraid I didn’t have very many when I made them last time, but once restrictions lift a bit more around here I’m considering going out and buying another box to make more! Though I’m seriously considering simply wrapping them in some scrap fabric and being done instead of sewing them up this time. I really don’t think it makes much of a different besides aesthetics 😂
i really like the mockup fabric! its so obnoxious its fantastic! im also working on a corset mockup and waiting on a new busk... seems we are in the same boat! love watching you!
It’s so fun, and it really is obnoxious 😂 Wow that’s exactly the same boat! I hope your’s arrives soon; mine seems to be lost in the endless sea of shipping confusion right now. Thank you so much!
The pattern looks so good, fits you perfectly and gives a beautiful shape! Looking forward to the next videos ;) Btw, you can quite legitimately wear some padding underneath the corset, it was done historically as well - and has two advantages over external padding: it makes the corset more comfy (being padded), plus the silhouette is smoother, as the corset smoothes the edges of the padding :D Historically it would be done, as corsets were bought in standard sizes based on waist circumference and you would just pad the rest to fit ;) Plus, I love that you sew across the pins, I always do that too, as I was also thought that in school - and it's so much faster :D :D
Thank you so much! Yes you’re correct, it is completely plausible to put padding in and still stay accurate. I am planning on making bust padding to go with this corset, but it turns out I really do just have enough hip spring naturally to go without the excess underneath for now. I totally did make it sound like padding under the corset was’t a thing though, didn’t I? I guess that’s something I’ll have to correct in a future video 😂 It really is so much faster to sew over them! Honestly I wasn’t aware that there were people who took the time to take them out until multiple years after learning to sew.
Best sponsorship ever. I've been using the same brand for 20+ years. Highly recommended. ;) Very good and funny video. Well done! Oh, and don't worry about the broken pin... I've managed to break so many that I always buy machine needles in bulk... ^^; so you're not alone...
Hi! I just started sewing recently. I made a 1850s/60s skirt in 3 days for an event, but now I'm working on a blouse from a big four pattern. So far I've learned cutting fabric is hard, how to sew pintucks inside out, how to seamrip pintucks out, and how to sew them the right way, lol.
Everyone has seemed to hop onto the 1890's corset wagon, so I shall too! Thank you for the inspiration and hope of successfully making my own corset! Off I go now to the Symington website~~
I relate to you so hard with that bug. The audacity! Also, hard at work on my own 1890's-inspired (definitely not historically accurate) corset mockup so it was great to see your process! I may or may not be studying it intently over the next few weeks xD
My favorite pattern weights for large projects are the two geocrystals I got at the gift shop at one of the museums I visited on my 8th grade DC trip and the many hot rocks that were made yearly in elementary school. It was everyone’s favorite every year. The teacher would put rocks in a toaster over and set them in front of us on a towel and we would melt old crayons on them. My mom was going to throw them out but I saved them just in time. My favorite are the ones we’re I got ahold of metallic crayons.
Oh I absolutely adore that, and the story is so wonderful! I just started using crystals as pattern weights this past month! They work really well, and they’re absolutely lovely to look at! 🥰
XD I was losin' it over your improvised fabric weights! The very best fabric weight I've ever had is also the very worst one, cause she sheds aaalll over my nice fabrics. XD yes, I've totally cut and sewn patterns and fabric by using my cat Jinx as a weight. She's gotten used to me pointing out where to lay and does so now pretty regularly. (She's disappointed that my current projects are too small for her to lay on. ) The mockup and hip spring refashioning look fantastic, and I'm so excited to see the real one!
That music about ten minutes into the video, while ripping the first mock up, that is one of my favorite choral songs, the most traditional summer hymn in Sweden. But, I'm so thankful for every new UA-cam-video that comes this weird time. Perfect to keep me occupied between and during all my hand sewing. I only sew by hand, just because I realized that I don't have money to pay for 200 projects in one year, by hand it takes more time so I save money💰. Right now a 18th century chemise and lots of hand felling
It’s a really beautiful piece of music! I was playing it in the background for a large portion of my editing. I’m so glad these videos are some sort of company during this time. I love that you do everything by hand! I absolutely adore hand sewing. That’s definitely a clever way to save money 😂
The power button really is in such an inconvenient place! It’s practically impossible for me to keep from bumping into it every minute or so! I’m glad to know I’m not completely crazy 😂
The pattern weights! The sponsorship! The creepy doll! I love it :D Add me to the list of people who may end up using this same pattern . . . I am currently watching all the corset-mockup videos I can find because I am soon to start work on drafting and fitting something for my asymmetrical and back-pain-afflicted self. (once my roommate and I can get over the weirdness and take my measurements)
Thank you so much! It is a great pattern! The drafting and fitting stage is... weird, honestly, but very rewarding! I’m excited to see how it turns out! 😊
I’m really happy you enjoyed it! I wish I’d had home economics, it isn’t really a thing in high school these days. You’re so kind! I’m certain you have wonderful skills though!
I have that exact same awl and that exact same seam ripper and I, too, have that same problem lol. I also have that same rotary cutter. It's got some grooves right over the blade where you can place the tip of your finger for more control. Looking forward to seeing the final version of the corset!
Glad to know I’m not alone in my constant mixups lol. I’m not going to lie, learning about those groves just changed my life. I just tried it and WOW did it make cutting easier! Thank you so much!
Unrelated to your actual project, but I love the pattern weight sponsorship. :P I just used a bunch of big rocks and mugs on my last project. I know nothing about the 1890s but this was awesome.
I found a small pile of rocks in my sewing room yesterday and I was so confused as to why I had them there, but then I remembered I had definitely been using them as pattern weights at some point! So glad to know I'm not alone lol. Thank you so much!
Ahhh! Bad girl! No sewing over pins!!!! 😝💖 I have done more victorian than I have most other periods, but I'm trying 18th century for a change. Working from the bottom up, starting with the shift! It is great to see what you are working on! P.S. I finally took the plunge and started my channel!
In my own defense, I usually at least consider taking them out for a moment before sewing over them anyway 😂😂 Oh I love the 18th century! I am completely the opposite, I’ve been mostly working in the late Georgian period for the past few years. That’s so exciting! Congrats and welcome to costube!!
I have just discovered your channel and am absolutely in love with your style! You make me feel so much better about not having all the gismos and gadgets too so thank you and keep doing what you do.
I’m so glad you like it!! I really believe there’s no reason why anyone should feel bad about not having fancy gadgets, and I’m happy I can share that in some way!
I do a lot of sewing for Cosplay and plan on sewing more of my own clothing as soon as I can stock up on fabrics again. I just recently finished handsewing a waistcoat/vest and a skirt for a Meriadoc Cosplay from _Lord of the Rings_ and am currently working on a cloak for my Keyleth of the Air Ashari Cosplay from _Critical Role_ Campaign One. It's a _Game of Thrones_ style cloak with a (faux) fur shoulderpiece, leather straps that cross over the chest and buckle in the back and loads of tiny embroidered leaves at the bottom. The cloak the character actually owns is made from real leaves, but I didn't want to use plastic leaves both for practicality and cost as well as environmental reasons. So it's fabric and recycled belts and fur from an old coat instead. The Cloak is my final piece of the costume, the rest - a tunic, leather bracers and a leather circlet with antlers is already all done. I am super excited to finish it because once it's done I will start on two more, very detailed Cosplays, one from _Star Wars_ and another one from _Critical Role_.
That’s all so wonderful! The cloak sounds like a really cool project! I have very little experience with Critical Role, but your description just brings the outfit to life! I absolutely love Star Wars, so your future plans sound very exciting!
Hello! That final mock-up looked amazing on you and I wish you god's speed on the delivery of your new busk. My current project is a 1950's swing dress but I have been working on it since January and have yet to actually start the sewing process :)
You got such a lovely shape ! Also : Hi ! So nice to discover a new-to-me costube channel ! I am currently working on a pair of 18th century "let's use all my scraps" pockets and a modernized pair of brocade stays.
Really enjoyed this video! Still contemplating my own first foray into the world of historical undergarments more complicated than a shift, but you've given me some added inspiration!
Honestly I only do it because I have some sort of personal vendetta against pinning patterns to heavy fabric. My rotary cutter and I are slowly becoming enemies though, so next time I might just grab the shears. Thank you so much!
@@ThreadedThistle but when you're using pattern weights (whatever kind they may be), you don't need to pin! Though you can't lay out all the pieces at once - you have to do one at a time. My pattern weights also are various items in my sewing room, btw. I find my phone and tv remote are the best ones.
@@LadyRebeccaFashions Yes, but I really like doing them all at once as well when the pieces are small. Random objects really can be the best pattern weights!
I'm also working on a corset at the moment. I think mine is an 1880s one from black snail patterns, based on aan actual corset from the time, might have also come from the Symington collection 🤔. I did some adjustments to make it work for me, so far giving more space in the hip area. I might have lost a lot of weight for no apparent reason, it means I need a new corset and I still have more hip or should I say bum? than a pattern expects with my other measurements.
Thank you so much! Random sewing room objects have always been there for me, so I was excited to share their great products with the world lol. I’m really happy with how the mockup came out!
I'm so glad that you are on youtube now. Saw you in several vlogs of costume college 2018 and 2019 and thought you were quite funny. What a delight to finally "meet" you!
Thank you so much! I honestly didn’t think anyone remembered me from those vlogs, so it’s been fun finding out otherwise. It’s really nice to “meet” you as well! 😊
Hello! You're mock up is gorgoeus. I love the fun print. Im currently working on Truly Victorian's 1898 Walking Skirt. Im in the beginning stages and it will be my second ever garment.
this video is awesome. im planning my own corset bc i want to swap to wearing one permanently so i have a lot of sewing to do to prepare to make the switch
I try to remove my pins before sewing over them, because people have told me to, but I tend to forget. On the other hand I am afraid of my needle breaking and hitting me in the face, so I wear safety goggles when sewing in busks... Also this video reminded me I should finish my mock-up for my stays, so thank you for that!
I am far more likely to remove my pins if I'm working with a nice fabric, but it's so easy to just keep going instead. I am also absolutely terrified of needles breaking and hitting me in the face! I often wear glasses of some form when I sew in busks or work with anything metal, and then I sew so slowly it's almost painful. Best of luck on the stays mockup!
Hello dear sewing friend. I found you through Bernadette Banner's costuming college vlog! I'm currently in the process of making two circle skirts from old tablecloths. I am ashamed to inform that they are made of the dreaded polyester and they are fraying everywhere! I can't wait until they are done so I can actually wear them
Hello! I’m so glad you found your way here! It’s really cool that you’re upcycling fabric like that, even if it is fraying-prone polyester. That’s going to be such a fun and rewarding project to finish!
A good tip for pattern weights from a sewing ingeneer: use gears! They are heavy, vary in size, behave extremely well near curves (!) and are quite decorative when cleaned and spraypainted. Ask nicely at your local scrapyard and you get as many as you want for extremely little money.
It's always interesting to see how other people fit their corsets and what changes they make! I think you achieved a very nice shape! I think though that you didn't need to shorten the corset - now it hits a strange spot under your armpits and creates a bit of bulk. So I would recommend you keep the original lenght.
I really do find watching peoples' corsetry processes to be fascinating. Thank you so much for the input. I really couldn't sit down comfortably with the longer length, as it was jutting terribly into my legs, but I was considering adding a smidge more height to the top of the corset.
@@ThreadedThistle Oh yeah, it's horribly uncomfortable if you can't sit so adjusting that was a good idea. You are right, you can just add some hight on the top and I think it'll be perfect!
WoW! That went surprisingly well! I am one of those working on a Worth gown. Just before the world fell down, I managed to get all the pieces I lacked (lace, mostly). I'm hesitant to make a corset. (I was traumatized while cutting out ten thousand boning channels when I was closer to your age) I absolutely LOVE the fabric you used for your mock up!! Beautiful! Happy Second Video!!!!
Oh that sounds like an amazing project! I’m so glad you were able to get it all in before this started. Corsetry is kinda terrifying, but I’m learning to love it! Thank you so much!!
I really enjoyed your video!! I completed my first 1890's corset about a month ago and I'm still trying to get around to editing a video about it, ahhh technology.... But I'm happy to see that others like you are successful in your videomaking and sewing endeavours! Keep up the good work
Thank you so much! Congrats on your first 1890s corset! Even if you haven’t gotten around to editing the video yet, finishing the garment is something to be proud of! At least that’s what I’m trying to tell myself with this next video I’m editing lol. Best of luck! Thanks again!
From the beginning of the video? I think it was from LOFT a while back. I usually try to hold back on buying new things, but from what I've been able to find through research LOFT seems to be pretty good about their ethics and sustainability, so I'm more likely to get something from them every now and again.
Hahahahahahahaha the pin hitting is hilarious!! Really like your videos, curious to see your other projects. I'm working on my new UA-cam channel as we speak, I'm encouraged to see how the sewing community embraces new creators!
I probably should have been upset when that happened, but I could not stop laughing. I've never seen a pin just give up and fold in on itself like that before. I'm so glad you like them! Best of luck with the channel! The sewing community has been pretty great with mine so far, it's really such a wonderful and supportive group to be in!
My current project is a dress that I realized about 3/4 of the way through that I don't have enough fabric for it. So I put it in the back of my closet to wallow in its shame out of sight. I'll probably finish it when I find it 40 years from now
Oh no! That’s really sad. I’ve definitely been in that same position though. Hopefully it’ll be less than 40 years, but I understand not wanting to work on it for a bit. Running out of fabric is just so frustrating.
@@ThreadedThistle it probably won't be 40 years :D I'll come back to it when I'm a bit less peeved. Maybe I'll take the whole thing apart and make something requiring less fabric who knows
Greetings, I am two weeks a bit late, but let me say, you have been incredibly inspirational. I am super sewing beginner.. I just finished a super simple late 18th century shift, that I now wear every night to bed. I love your videos, I remember you from Bernadette Banner's 2019 costume college vlog, and you were beautiful there, so finding out you started your own channel was super exciting and inspiring (as I have so much anxiety, that it is holding me back from starting my own). Regardless, I look foward to seeing more of your experimental sewing journeys as you have been an absolute joy. Thank you. P.S. Eleanor the doll is beautiful and I love her.
Hello! You’re not late at all, and that is so sweet of you to say. That’s a huge accomplishment! Honestly, even though they are supposedly simple, shifts are something of my own personal enemy, so I’m always impressed by people who willingly make more than one. After many years of sewing I’ve only ever convinced myself to make the bare minimum number. I’m so glad you like these videos! I absolutely love Bernadette, and honestly I was thinking about making this channel even all the way back during Costume College last year. I have serious anxiety as well, so it took a while to get around to it, but I’m so glad I did. Thank you again! I hope to see you around here more in the future!
I'm currently doing a mock-up using a free article or foundations revealed and I love it, though it's not historically accurate, as my first attempt to do a corset it's going pretty well, of course some bedsheets die for this process also I'm putting on practice dying with natural pigments, so this mock-up is turning into a really funny thing to do
I absolutely love Foundations Revealed's articles, they're so helpful! I'm so glad the corset is going well! I've always wanted to do dyeing with natural pigments, but I've only had limited opportunities to work with them thus far. They seem really interesting though!
I have an 1890s corset that I made in uni and I love it but it fits horrifically and I should totally make a new one but I have a list as long as my arm of sewing projects I need to do 😂 also I'm in love with the shirts you wear in this video 😍
Oh my goodness I 100% understand that. I have a pair of corded 1830s stays that fit terribly these days, but I put so much time into it I'm loathe to make a new one. Also I have about 1,000 project ideas I want to get to, and though another 1830s gown is on it, it's definitely not the top priority. Thank you so much! They're a weird little collection of things I've picked up over the years, but they can be pretty fun sometimes!
My sewing adventure at the moment is a pink lolita plague doctor. Because I (for fun) made a quilted plague doctor mask in pink fabrics, laces and flowers and now I want an outfit that goes with the mask. XD
Oh that’s so fun!! I’m really loving all the people who are making matching masks and outfits, and a plague doctor mask is soooo wild. I absolutely love it!
@@ThreadedThistle I love all the plague doctors I've seen. :D And when I found the quilted pattern, I had to make it myself. If you would like to see it, you can find it here on my instagram: instagram.com/angel_aaes/ It's the post where I have light pink hair ;)
My god, the mockup is really good, and it’s only a mockup ! I can’t wait to see how the actual finished corset will look like 😁 I love the colorful fabric you used for the mockup :) I really enjoy the fact that your videos are instructional and fun at the same time ! I really want to make my own Victorian corset now, but I’m not sure I will be able to 😅
Thank you so much! I’m pretty happy with the mockup, and I’m so excited to start on the final. I’m so happy you like them! Corsetry is super daunting, but it’s not impossible to learn! Foundations Revealed has some great free articles on their website about it, and it’s definitely something you get better at the more research and practice that goes into it. If you want to and you have the time, it’s definitely something you should try! 😊
Hello I love your work and admire your skill. I love the fabric you chose for your mockup, though personally I have to use white or else I decide halfway through that it’s cute and get attached to the mockup lol
Hello! Thank you so much! I usually use white as well for that same purpose lol! This was one of the first mockups I’ve made in a while from a fun print, and it was kind of a nice change, but I really am starting to get attached to it.
Thank you so much! I’m certain you’re way more talented than you give yourself credit for ❤️ I’m working on getting something new up soon! I’m really glad you enjoy it!
If your light board is one of those single sheets of plexiglass: you could be bumping the power button even just slightly, or the wiring could be wiggling.
Oh I was definitely bumping in to the power button the entire time. Once I figured that out I shifted how I was placing my hand on the board, but it's still going to take a bit before I train myself not to run over the button every five seconds lol
Thank you so much! I’m 80% sure I got it at the Loft Outlet a while back, but honestly I’m not sure. I should go check the tag, but it’s currently packed away right now 😂
okay so im kinda curious and i have a problem with my first corsetXD. i bought a very beautifull pattern from someone on etsy and im currently trying to make a mock up. when i had found my size and measured all the pieces for that side and sewed one half i came to the realisation that it coverd 3/4 of my body..... something somewhere went terrible wrongXD. my question now is what is a good thing to do with my mock up? i need to take out like 17 cm at each side atleast (this is after already removing one panel from each side) and im not sure what to do:P. so if you or anybody else has some tips i would gladly hear them:).
Very nice video, gorgeous work, etc, OH GOD PLEASE NEVER SEW OVER PINS!!! They can snap and fly in unexpected places (including eyes if you're unlucky!) or even break your needle!! Also the bug is a mood I live and sew in a basement and the amount of HUGE UNEXPECTED BEETLES I have to interact with is truly a nightmare.
Thank you! I’m very familiar with the dangers of sewing over pins, I’ve had a few friends come into broken pin mishaps over the years, yet here I still am 😂 Oh the bug was such an experience! I’ve since moved into an attic and let me tell you it’s only gotten worse since.
I would wear that mock up to a picnic! With a big picture hat. With a frilly petticoat. But, you have probably already guessed that I am a little out there. Still, it is really pretty.
I was wondering, how did you scale the pattern up to the proper size? I'm currently in the process of scaling up a similar pattern from the Symington collection, and trying to figure out exactly how to scale it properly has been the actual bane of my existence.
I’m so glad you like them!! That is such a cool project! I’ve seen original extant stays and corsets with that purpose, but I don’t believe I’ve ever seen anyone recreate one. Best of luck, I really hope it goes well!
Tragically I didn’t make any of the tops I’m wearing in this video, but there’s definitely patterns out there a lot like them! They’re all pretty much just blouses with bishop sleeves because I’m very predictable 😂 Also thank you, that’s so sweet!
Hahaha. Do not sew over pins. 40 years experience behind it. Put I still do it. I slow down now. I love your mock ups. Each was wonderful. Number three my favorite.

HI! I use washers from Lowe's as pattern weights! Get the big ones. They're pretty cheap and you get like, 20 per box.
Looking forward to the next videos ;)
Btw, you can quite legitimately wear some padding underneath the corset, it was done historically as well - and has two advantages over external padding: it makes the corset more comfy (being padded), plus the silhouette is smoother, as the corset smoothes the edges of the padding :D Historically it would be done, as corsets were bought in standard sizes based on waist circumference and you would just pad the rest to fit ;)
Plus, I love that you sew across the pins, I always do that too, as I was also thought that in school - and it's so much faster :D :D
I guess that’s something I’ll have to correct in a future video 😂
It really is so much faster to sew over them! Honestly I wasn’t aware that there were people who took the time to take them out until multiple years after learning to sew.
Best sponsorship ever. I've been using the same brand for 20+ years. Highly recommended. ;)
Very good and funny video. Well done!
Oh, and don't worry about the broken pin... I've managed to break so many that I always buy machine needles in bulk... ^^; so you're not alone...
They really make a wonderful series of fabric weights lol! Thank you so much! I’m glad to know I’m not alone!
Welcome to the sewing world! Cutting fabric is by far my least favorite part of any project. Those are all good and handy lessons lol 😂
The final outfit was so chic! Loved watching your progress and can’t wait for the next episode.
Thank you so much!
That top you’re wearing at the end! I want one so badly!
Isn’t it fun? I’ve had it for years.
(She's disappointed that my current projects are too small for her to lay on. ) The mockup and hip spring refashioning look fantastic, and I'm so excited to see the real one!
love the tops you're wearing in this video
Thank you!
I have the same light board and it turns on and off all the time too!
Ahh so happy to see another of your videos.🙂 Learned to sew in home economics, I’m 62, so back in the Stone Age. Wish I had your skills.
For pattern weights, I went to my hardware store and picked up 2-4 inch metal washers. They work great and are super cheap!
Ahhh! Bad girl! No sewing over pins!!!! 😝💖 I have done more victorian than I have most other periods, but I'm trying 18th century for a change. Working from the bottom up, starting with the shift! It is great to see what you are working on! P.S. I finally took the plunge and started my channel!
In my own defense, I usually at least consider taking them out for a moment before sewing over them anyway 😂😂
Oh I love the 18th century!
That final mockup is beautifull, I can see myself wearing it over a black or a white blouse.
Your mock up is adorable and looks so cute with that blouse.
Thank you so much!
Looks absolutely amazing! Your figure is to die for ♥
Thank you! The corset shape really does do a great job, I’m very proud of it!
Thank you so much! I’m hoping it’ll be here soon. Oh I loooove 50s swing dresses! Pre-planning can be a loooong process.
You got such a lovely shape !
Also : Hi ! So nice to discover a new-to-me costube channel ! I am currently working on a pair of 18th century "let's use all my scraps" pockets and a modernized pair of brocade stays.
Thank you so much, and hello to you as well! Oh I absolutely love pockets made from scraps, that's going to be so lovely!
WE STAN A QUEEN WHO DRESSES UP TO SEW AT HOME. also holy cow the shape the final mockup gives you is sending me!!
Dressing up for men? Never. I dress for Gertrude the Sewing Machine and her alone.
@@ThreadedThistle Gotta impress Gertrude, she's a very fancy lady
Exactly. And if she’s not proud of me, what was it all for?
So very very cool!
Really enjoyed this video! Still contemplating my own first foray into the world of historical undergarments more complicated than a shift, but you've given me some added inspiration!
I’m glad you liked it! Welcome to the world of historical undergarments! I wish you the best of luck 😊
It looks so good! My own sewing adventures have been put on hold for the moment but I've found another love in crocheting amigurumi :)
Thank you so much! That’s too bad about the sewing halt, but I’m happy you’ve found something else in the time being! That sounds so cool!
I am amazed that you cut such little intricate bits with a rotary cutter! You're brave. Also, your mockup looks fantastic!
Random objects really can be the best pattern weights!
three mockups?? im impressed... i had to convince myself to make even one proper mockup, lol
Ahh how exciting!
I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
So cant wait for the final
I'm literally just working on a corset from the same Symington pattern 🙈
I'm also working on a corset at the moment. I think mine is an 1880s one from black snail patterns, based on aan actual corset from the time, might have also come from the Symington collection 🤔. I did some adjustments to make it work for me, so far giving more space in the hip area. I might have lost a lot of weight for no apparent reason, it means I need a new corset and I still have more hip or should I say bum? than a pattern expects with my other measurements.
Hi, I'm new here and my current obsession is making a Symington corset! I'm excited to see this ensemble come together 😊
Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here! Symington corsets seems absolutely fabulous and I’m obsessed as well! I can’t wait to work on it more!
Also the bugs on the fabric problem is real for me haha! My windows are broken so bugs find their way in the room and like light colored fabric...
Ooooh it was a HUGE problem for me this summer. I’m so happy I’m not alone 😂
This mockup looks so beautiful! Can’t wait to see how the actual corset will look :)
Your sewing videos are great!
Thank you so much! I’m excited to work on the final! I’m really happy you like them!
this video was great, i loved your sponsorship deal lmao & the fabric for the mock is so cute!! it looks really great!
Hello! Thank you so much! Oh that’s an absolutely lovely project! I wish you all the best of luck, I’m certain it will be wonderful!
just found your channel and i love it! you just gained a sub.
I can do relate to getting sidetracked with other project ideas and I am currently working on making a corset
Oh goodness I do it constantly. That’s so wonderful that you’re working on a corset as well!
this video is awesome. im planning my own corset bc i want to swap to wearing one permanently so i have a lot of sewing to do to prepare to make the switch
Thank you so much! That’s a really cool endeavor! Best of luck, I’m sure it will turn out wonderfully!
@@ThreadedThistle thank you! im gonna need it bc im combining construction tecniques from various eras so.....
I'm so glad I found your channel! This was super interesting and entertaining. I loved that sponsor section lol
I’m so happy you liked it!!
Love this video and your style. Your personality shines through and it makes the video more enjoyable to watch :) Cant wait to see more.
Thank you so much!
I like the mockup material, you could definitely use it for history bounding.
It’s definitely really fun! I loved using it!
Need to know more about that red blouse!!!!! 😍😍😍
From the beginning of the video? I think it was from LOFT a while back. I usually try to hold back on buying new things, but from what I've been able to find through research LOFT seems to be pretty good about their ethics and sustainability, so I'm more likely to get something from them every now and again.
Hi,
Such a so wonderful entrepreneurship!!! Each garment that you make is artwork. Very good luck in your new channel.
Thank you so much!
I love this top! If it has a pattern please post!
The mockup looks great! I’m planning a late 1890s court gown:) like the ones Queen Mary of Teck wore when she was young:)
Thank you! Oh my goodness that sounds SO exciting! I really love how much 1890s is going on right now, it's just constant inspiration.
Threaded Thistle it is! The 1890s are just amazing😊
@@ThreadedThistle yes! And stays and corsets always take so much time to make for such a small garment that is rarely seen
Hello dear. Did you ever finish your final corset?
Please share where you got the cream blouse your wearing at the end?
It was from a collection Janie Bryant (the costume designer for Mad Men) did with for Unique Vintage a few years ago! I really love it!
Threaded Thistle Thank you, will definitively check on Foundations Revealed’s website and their free articles about Corsetry !
Nuts and or worshers works good also
I've just finished corset mockup #1, but I too am waiting for a busk.
We’re in the same boat then! The waiting is driving me crazy; I just want to get started on the final!
@@ThreadedThistle Same!
Did you ever make the final version?
Love this video! But how do you scale up the pattern?
I love this! Super cosy and non stressful corsetry video! I also love your style! How do you look so elegant???
Thank you so much! Honestly it’s mostly just the wardrobe saying that; I am very much not an elegant human being lol.

Your blouse is gorgeous! Where did you get it/the pattern?
Thank you so much! I’m 80% sure I got it at the Loft Outlet a while back, but honestly I’m not sure. I should go check the tag, but it’s currently packed away right now 😂
i'm working on chemis and it has been hard but i'm getting there
Sewing a chemise can be SUPER rough, I totally know how you feel!
okay so im kinda curious and i have a problem with my first corsetXD. i bought a very beautifull pattern from someone on etsy and im currently trying to make a mock up. when i had found my size and measured all the pieces for that side and sewed one half i came to the realisation that it coverd 3/4 of my body.....
something somewhere went terrible wrongXD. my question now is what is a good thing to do with my mock up? i need to take out like 17 cm at each side atleast (this is after already removing one panel from each side) and im not sure what to do:P. so if you or anybody else has some tips i would gladly hear them:).
It really would make a great picnic outfit! The colors just scream spring picnic outing.
I was wondering, how did you scale the pattern up to the proper size? I'm currently in the process of scaling up a similar pattern from the Symington collection, and trying to figure out exactly how to scale it properly has been the actual bane of my existence.
You give me life. Your videos are so perfectly quirky. I’m currently making some regency inspired stays for the purpose of breastfeeding/pumping milk
I’m so glad you like them!! That is such a cool project! I’ve seen original extant stays and corsets with that purpose, but I don’t believe I’ve ever seen anyone recreate one. Best of luck, I really hope it goes well!
OK but is there a pattern for that top you're wearing because I WANT IT
(also you're funny, I like you, subscribed
Tragically I didn’t make any of the tops I’m wearing in this video, but there’s definitely patterns out there a lot like them! They’re all pretty much just blouses with bishop sleeves because I’m very predictable 😂 Also thank you, that’s so sweet!
@@ThreadedThistle Ah well. I'll survive I guess :p
And bishop sleeves are awesome. Looking forward to your future videos.
Hahaha. Do not sew over pins. 40 years experience behind it. Put I still do it. I slow down now.
I love your mock ups. Each was wonderful. Number three my favorite.
