    i LOVE that you placed the new pattern over top of the original so we can see the changes you've made. really helped me visualize the changes and consider how I could change my own sewing patterns. Great video! Inspiring me to try and make one, I just have to commit to a fabric and order the materials.

      Thank you! I’m glad it was helpful. I always keep the original pattern/first draft. And then trace it to make the alterations. That way you will always have the original to get back to.

    Thank you so much for this video! I am struggling with my first corset, trying to do everything perfectly 🙄 after reading and watching way too much information. I am so relieved to know that you wore that first corset for many years despite some quite major fit issues! Really encouraged to just finish the version I have now and enjoy that corset 😊 Also really helpful to see all the alterations you made explained so very well.

    I love your pins. They’re pretty.
    I’m glad you found the numbers.
    I love the colors in your pattern.
    The old corset was nice, but I understand needing to replace.
    The first mockup is nice.
    Back support is a good thing.
    That’s a lovely Coutil.

    For sure that pattern page gave me a scare hahaha, but I'm a sucker for historical accurate garments and corsets I find them absolutely beautiful, I don't think I'll be trying your pattern there are no measurements no way for me to duplicate it, there are probably many ladies that can do that easily but not me. Thank you so much for the great video really enjoyed.

    The White one is still awesome. What you could do is dye it with tea, it will make it about the same shade, just use light tea, then you can go darker. It won't place color on the sweat parts, so they should not go darker. It is still in amazing shape and gorgeous. HOW you figured out those lines, and made that into a pattern is beyond crazy. I am going to go by the pieces you made and just copy from the video. I am so glad I found your channel. I hope you made it through this darn virus!!!!

    • @Leeam

      Unfortunately the white one is passed saving. It is a poor fit, that hurts my back, because it is to small and to short for my torso. The silk is deteriorating due to wear. Putting the corset in angling of water will only make it worse with a the boning and busk starting to rust

    These explanations were lovely! I’m in the middle of making a more modern corset, and I was wandering if there is a way to make a corset without a center structure layer? If it is required what fabric would you recommend for that? I plan on using some calico cotton fabric for the outside, and A thin cotton for the lining.

    • @Leeam
      @Leeam  4 роки тому

      You can make a single layer corset. I would recommend a sturdy natural fabric like a sturdy cotton.

    I've been wanting to make this exact corset since I saw it on Merja's blog last year! Yours is looking gorgeous! I'm just curious what length busk you used. Trying to decide between 10 in and 12 inch, and I'm just trying to wrap my mind around the scale of the pattern on someone else while deciding where it should hit on me.

  • @clairezhangyx

    Thank you for making this tutorial. I’m planning on making an 1870s corset and this has been extremely helpful! I was wondering if I could ask one question: is there a reason why you added the boning channels instead of just sandwiching the boning in between the two layers!

    • @Leeam
      @Leeam  3 роки тому

      Thank you very much, the reason I did sandwich the boning is because the silk fabric is to thin and fragil to keep the boning in. There silk will endure quite some friction while wearing.

    Amazing video!! ❤ I'm having trouble with scaling the pattern, may I ask how you did it?

    • @Leeam
      @Leeam  4 роки тому +4

      I have used this method: pin.it/31FW8va you basically use one point in the original pattern. And then extent from that to any corner and multiple by the % you are enlarging it with. For example from the center point to a corner is 10cm and you are scaling up the pattern by 50% the new line is 15cm from center point to the new corner while going through the original corner... does that make sense?

    I have a few questions if you dont mind. Do you know why these domt cover more of the breast? Could you make it cover if you wanted? I know that would diverge from the historical aspect. Is there a difference between the 1860 and 1870 corset?

    • @Leeam
      @Leeam  4 роки тому

      oh goodness, i am by no means a corset expert. basically if you want them coverd you can. you can do whatever you want and or feel comfortable with (Within the law offcourse😉) i think the main part from 1860 to 1870 might be the curve...? since that is where the trasition starts from crinolin to bustles... but don't quote me on that.
