These are all you need.

not really
Renato Contreras itshouldbeaten
I thought it was a strong 8 - light 9 personally but idc I agree with him on 90% of the things he brought up in the review, I was just a little more enamoured by it I guess
yeah I get his gripe with smell the roses but I feel like the instrumental pallet other than that song is super different than his previous works
+godzilla12332 Hell yeah
Fantano is the kind of guy who just listens to what TheNeedleDrop tells him too.

I love Animals, what an album.
Brett Shirley WYWH, the Wall and DSOFTM too
Giyan Scheers I must be the only one here that thinks Meddle never gets any credit. Smooth record.
trdidion I have heard One of these days and Echoes a couple of times. They're great! Meddle is going to be the next album i'll buy
+trdidion I like Meddle, Dark Side, WYWH, and Animals. I think The Wall is way overrated, and everything else is somewhere between shit and average, with good single tracks here and there.
Brett Shirley what are your thoughts on their early stuff like piper or a saucerful ?
It's a GREAT album that grows on you. It doesn't just hit you right away with a bunch of singles, it's a well thought out concept album with a lot of soul. It took me about 3 or 4 good listens and now I LOVE "Broken Bones", "The Last Refugee", "Deja Vu" and I really like "The Most Beautiful Girl" and "Wait For Here". Most white supremacist despise this album because it bashes Donald Chump and of course people who are pro-israel despise Roger anyway lol

Wow what great lyrics, what a great album. I would give it 8/10, and I have only listened to it once so far. I am sure that it would be the sort of album that will grow on you more the more you listen to it. A real emotional journey.
Saw Roger on his latest tour, the two tracks he played from this album were very interesting and held up surrounded by classics... I'm going to get my hands on this one
In Downtown NYC this was actually advertised by spray painting a similar version of the cover-art on the pavement at random spots. Literally passed one of those sprays today.
Gowd What a bunch of pretentious assholes live in NYC. Am i right ?
Gowd They just did that for gorillaz in Philly too
heroinhero69 I'm fucking poor and I live there
Gowd Radiohead did it back in 2003 for Hail to the Thief.
In london too below warner kensington.. not sure thats his label tho. Hate waters too much to give this a listen, such a shame.
When I heard the chord progression of this album for the first time I immediately thought, "Pigs On The Wing."
One of the reasons this record sounds so good is because it was recorded on tape, not digitally
Billy Cobb didn't know this! Cool!
It doesn't sound good. It sounds over compressed as hell. The vocals have no dynamics. Go listen to the Final Cut and compare how the choruses on Final Cut will make you jump out of your seat. Here everything just sort of lies there. If you turn the record up loud enough to hear his words, everything else makes you want to turn it down. Nigel tried to mix in a volume knob, when we all turn it up to our preferred volume anyway. Mix it so we want to turn it up! Nigel does this with Radiohead too. Everything is too compressed because he wants his album to sound 'loud.' Rubbish.
The human ear is physically incapable of telling the difference.
Billy Cobb Yeah it really comes alive on vinyl.
Billy Cobb how could tape ever sound better than High end digital?
Melon can you interview DAMN by Kendrick Lamar?
Kendrick is gay Hopsin is the greatest

overall i can go with this strong 7 from Anthony... i love it if he has the same opinion like me :D

is this the melon we really want?
Very Blackstar-ish at places. But I guess Blackstar was quite Floyd-ish in ways too.
Blackstar is its own league. You can hear traces of old prog, while diverse himself with electronica and hip-hop.
You gave this a 3 and lil yachty a 9? WTF melon?
I love these comments
Revisited this album tonight. What an experience. It’s only been three-ish years but it’s aged extremely well. I think it might be my favorite Roger Waters solo album, although Amused To Death is quite good as well. This one is just more relevant at the moment.
How did you not mention "Picture That"?
c0rrupt c0ntent such a great song
I would say Broken Bones is the best song on the album but Picture That is definitely second IMO.
5:00 he mentions the song but calls it "picture this" rather than "picture that."
Broken Bones and Deja Vu are two of my favourite songs by Waters. They are in my top ten of Floyd too
I'm surprised you fail to give Nigel Godrich credit for his significant involvement on the production of this record.
Album of the year. One of the best of the decade. Incredible
100% agree with Animals being one of the best albums. It's quite a change up compared to the other albums they made during those years.
I really liked it , It was better than I expected . 8/10 for me .
Larks' Tongues In Aspic I think it's a 10 but you have to keep listening.
Don't forget people didn't get Dark Side when it came out either.
Really fine analyse. And there is another thing you didn't mentioned. In the context of the Pink Floyd albums, the war with Gilmour etc.., this album really gives the feeling that Roger Waters has finally the final word : This album really moves, and to me, it says : ok, finally, he is the master. This album is like his last tour de force (and bras d'honneur / finger) to those who laughed at him. And more important, it's an album made by someone who wants to deliver something meaningful before he dies. All is in the title;
Finally, this album is the definitive final cut of the Pink Floyd's albums. And now , try to listen to the last album by Gilmour, and you will know what i mean : Waters delivered a moving, emotional, intensive, dark, deep, meaningful album, helped with an intelligent raw and limited vintage production (thanks Nigel !)
Les impros du Lezard vert He is the master!
The Us and Them tour proves that!
Gilmour is just sleeping walking in the dark!
And he needs to wake up too! LOL
yep I watched video from the Us + Them tour...my god !
I am a huge Floyd fan and also enjoy most of all their solo stuff. It is clear that Roger Waters gave Pink Floyd their edge, but the sound was mostly Gilmour and Wright creating these layered soundscapes. Waters albums have been criticized for not sounding "Floyd" enough, so the call backs to some "Floyd" sounds were welcomed for me. Gilmour did the same thing on Division Bell, but to a greater extent. On the first listen I liked 3 or 4 of the songs immediately and then after about ten listens I liked the whole album end to end. I have few complaints, it felt short, the electric guitar was sparse as were the solos, and he didn't use some songs he had basically completed that he has done live over the years. Songs like "Each Small Candle," "To Kill the Child," "Crystal Clear Brooks," and "Flickering Flame," all which are great songs that with some reworking would have fit on this album just fine. Some spots of the album I wish the lyrics were a bit stronger and others I wished the music was a bit stronger. I am still listening to it because thematically and emotionally this albums is dense and requires many listens to really absorb the lyrics and understand their meaning. If you are a classic rock fan this is a solid 8 out 10.

Adam Hejze I Also was sure like a week ago but look where we at now.
Someone just has to ask him politely to review it is all. Anthony is human afterall
I fuckin adore this album. I finally got to have a Waters record come out in my life time that actually pertains to stuff which is relevant to me, which is just awesome. This had an awesome soundscape too, mainly because of that lack of a prominent guitar, which he uses like an orchestral instrument, and some really cool harmonies and well written string parts. My personal favourite was probably picture that, or maybe broken bones. I personally put it at like an 8 goin on 9. Great video as ever.
"I don't know what's more messed up: he's just copying himself or we're just copying ourselves". That's some good shit.
Incredibly good for a 74 year old artist
Retrace your steps, Fantano... believe in the suppleness your twinkly toes possess!
Animals is the best Pink Floyd album and I stand by that notion
Understandable have a good day
The Wall is the best but I hold DSotM and Animals as equal second best and just barely below it.
The wall is my favorite
DSOTM is mine
You're really gonna link to that Muse review at the end? Bold.

"Would you sell your story to Rolling Stone?"
I felt like this album had a feel alot more like the Final cut than Animals. Its like if roger wrote the final cut at 70 years old
Picture That is an incredible track. He sounds so pissed off. It's amazing.
Roger Water’s dad drove an ambulance during the London Blitz and went on to serve and die in the Battle of the Anzio in Italy. And all of this was before Waters turned even a year old
"DOGstony SHEEPtano"
Trulya masterpiece
I wish you had reviewed Gilmour's Rattle that lock when it came out a few years ago.
Something tells me Fantano wouldn’t have cared for it much.
When you think of what Roger has done in his 50 year career, it's really hard to get excited about this album. Roger was very lucky to be part of Pink Floyd. Since he left Pink Floyd, none of his solo albums come close to the glory days of Pink Floyd. I'd say the same thing about David Gilmour's solo efforts.
I'd rather listen to Piper, Meddle, Dark Side, Wish You Were Here, Animals, and The Wall for the millionth time before listening to any of Roger and David's solo albums. The chemistry and resulting great music were there when Syd, David, Nick, Rick, and Roger composed and performed together. Ask yourself this question: would any of David and Roger's solo work have gone anywhere if they did not have the enormous success of their collaboration in Pink Floyd before their solo efforts came out? I seriously doubt it.
I wish Roger and David would get over their differences and focus on a Pink Floyd reunion tour with the surviving band members. That's what the fans like me really and truly want, not the half baked, flavorless solo albums these guys continue to put out.
@Cofee: They have? Then when are they going to do a reunion tour, not just a show or two? I've seen recent interviews with both Roger and David and it doesn't sound like it's over. They're not at each other's throats like back in the '80's, but there is a thin peace between them.
You like Pink Floyd?
Disagree, just cus I'm a total Waters man. The Final Cut is my favorite Floyd record and I love this album too, his emotion and drive really makes his music.
I liked it instantly and am now developing a passion for it. It gets better with every listen. In a way I have to say it feels like the most balanced record he's made since Dark Side of the Moon I would argue about there being no surprises however I understand what you're saying is far as the music goes however every time I listen to this man's music even on all the old Elms I'm still finding surprises in the way that he manages to touch me and change my perception of the world around me

I LOVE this album. It's actually my first Waters solo album (I'm 47!!!), and just cannot seem to get enough of it.
Solid album, really didn't expect to like it as much as I did
I first heard “déjà vu” when I saw him live in October and since then I was hooked to the album. Keep up the good work you perfect melon
As for the musical instruments: I love the use of that good old Solina String Ensemble on this album.
Hi Anthony, would you ever consider doing a classics review for Animals?
Animals is my favorite PF album too. I got no community support, became an outcast and wandered the Outlands alone for years, and tonight is the first time I've had validation. Don't know if I can assilmilate into society again.

If you really liked it, you should have given it another point, especially considering his albums are growers.

The minute I heard Deja Vu the melody threw me back to listening to Mother, and it was pretty nice.
i was suprised how much i liked the new Waters album .... and, nice review!
Watching this from Israel. Hi Roger!!
Exactly my reaction to Roger releasing a new album >D
NOT HIS 5TH SOLO EFFORT IT IS HIS 6TH and they are all Excellent Roger Waters and his work with Pink Floyd he is a musical genius !
Anthony's face in the thumbnail like "Is this the life we really want?"
I find the argument ludicrous.
I have bad memories of audio tape that will never go away.
There's nothing more heart breaking than playing your favorite album on audio tape and having your player eat it.
And yes that includes TDK.
Vinyl and compact disc gives you the assurance that at the very least that will not happen audio tapes will not.
I didn't think you were going to cover this album!
Roger Water without Pink Floyd sounds like a bad Leonard Cohen
Finally! I have been waiting for this review since the release. I think this is the closest ever we can get to a Floyd scene. Terrific album.
no shoutout to nigel godrich for production?
People need to stop shitting on this album
I like it more than I expected I would. I still think Amused To Death is better despite a few weaker songs at the end, but I like the pace and intimacy of ITTL. I'm with you on the rating.
I agree with you. As an album ATO flows better, however i think this album has better individual tracks.
Absoulotly love this album. I don't mind it sounds familiar that's exactly what i wanted from him. Just wish there was a bit more electric guitar in Picture this instead of organ sound on chorus. But hey Waters is still a genius and always will be
I can't read the comments on Anthony's videos anymore. Y'all
need some new material. Idk how the same jokes get hundreds of likes every fucking video.
Fun Facts at least it's not Chris Stuckmann's community
Spot on - Amused to Death and the Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking were pearls...
In pros and cons of hitch hiking he goes insane, it's like the wall on steroids
i'm seeing roger live in 2 months, and am gearing up by watching lots of waters/floyd content as well as videos of shows being posted as the tour makes its way across america.he's doing songs from "amused to death" and "is this the life we really want" which i can't wait to see live. i know this video is 5 years old,but if you haven't listened to the album in a while you should revisit it. as with most of his work, roger is ahead of the times. "is this the life we really want" applies to us even more today than when it was released. in the new show he adds a verse to "the bravery of being out of range" that talks about it being 30 years later and little has changed. if anything things have gotten worse.
I saw him in Albany
Amazing show
How was it
@@keloonpa58.62 it was amazing. incredible stage set up in the round, and lots of good ol' pink floyd songs. i have a few videos of the night. just search for roger waters in los angeles on my channel.
i like that you put Drones on the endscreen bc that album went for the same themes in a less successful way
You need to do classic reviews on some of the big 4 Floyd albums. It would be glorious.
If you want to listen to Amused to Death, then listen to the 2015 mix for sure.
And in reference to this album, Bird in a Gale is probably one of my favourites on this record, behind Deja Vu and Picture That.
yo ugave this an 11 but DAMN only a 4?
Lues shit banter
I say this time and time again. Waters always has it down lyrically but he could never nail the musical part of his songs since his Pink Floyd days, hell even the Final Cut had it musically at times because of Gilmour. But this is to no surprise as he has always been a wonderful and powerful lyricist.
Use some of your ad money and buy a green screen square with straight edges already.
Will you please review Elder's new album "Reflections Of A Floating World"? Elder is most famous for creating a new frontier in stoner rock/metal with the progressive elements in 2015's "Lore", and the new album uses basically the same formula, but it cuts out a lot of the aimless filler which made up the middle part of "Lore". It's a great album, and, in my opinion, worth a listen.
Thanks Melon
The "her" in the poem refer the country. Mahmoud Darwish's Poetry are mostly about his love to his country.
I agree with what melon says, I like that Roger's albums are outspoken, political and he keeps true to his heart. This album in particular to me is the best of his solo work. I just can't seem to enjoy any of his solo work.
Please review the new Beach Fossils album. It's a lot different than all their other ones
For lovers of Animals era Floyd this is a real gift. So what if they say deja vu about it sounding like Floyd that's not a bad thing. Few songwriters can harness this level of serene and testosterone at the same time. People that only listened to DSOTM won't ever get into Waters solo stuff cause they are stuck in the mainstream consensus reality. Waters writes songs for outside-the-box free-thinkers.
well ALRIGHTY then! i guess i have to buy/listen to this as i am a lover of ATD which i bought from Ying Tan's interim project-Pacific Vinyl. i had heard there would only be about 2000 LP pressings and in those days of the dreaded COMPACT DISC (i never got rid of my vinyl and took my time to buy a good sounding cdp).
i will admit to you that i haven't always warmed up to your reviewing style, or at least most of the music reviewed, you knocked this one OUT OF THE PARK. i will get back to you after i have heard the music.
...hifitommy
I'd love to hear you review 2 King Crimson Classics - Larks Tongues in Aspic 1973 and Red 1974. The latter was a favourite of the late Nirvana Singer
Echoes in the background 👍
I would say this is his greatest work since dark side of the moon.
While he,d never admit it I suspect he needed the reconciliation of Live 8 far more than he,d ever let on.
Just to clear the air and move on without bitterness.
Although I'm really enjoying Is the the Life.... and think its a pretty good album (Anthony's 'Strong 7' is actually right on the money!) I can't help but think (musically, not lyrically, of course) we're listening to a 'work in progress' of a Floyd album circa '77 to say '82 and that all the drums, percussion, keys, bass, strings, acoustic guitar, tiny bit of electric guitar and Rog's vocals are already completed. All that needs to be done is add Gilmour's and poss Wright's vocal tracks.... and of course Dave's soaring trademark guitar and.... Tadaaa!.... a Pink Floyd album!!! It's the absence of hardly any electric guitar on this album that really hits home (subtle hint from Roger to David? Who knows!) when listening to it.
Lyrically though Roger is bang up to date and, although well into his 70's, he's not an happy bunny at the state of the world! Not one little bit!
what do the records behind him mean? Does he always put ones of significance for the review there or are they sometimes random?
Theyre all pink floyd albums
The final cut was just a album that was songs that weren't good enough to make the wall album, so Roger waters pretty much released it as a solo album with the PINK FLOYD name on it. Roger waters was the only member that called that a Pink Floyd album, PINK FLOYD never went cumput, they would go on to have 2 successful album's without waters, let's not forget that the last album, endless river would become the most preordered album in Amazon history.
You do realize only 3 songs on the finale cut were supposed to be on the wall, right? The rest is original.
Waters took the brain of Floyd away when he left. Unfortunately, now we have a brain with no beauty on one side and a beauty with no brain (now defunct anyway) on the other
