It just blows my mind that songs like this were once able to become HUGE, reaching near the very top of the charts and selling over a million records. A decade later, this kind of song would have sounded so innocent and simple. Two decades later, with disco in full swing, this type of song would never have become popular. Now, nearly exactly two-thirds of a century later, the top of the popular charts would sound like music from an alien civilization to those who were only used to the music of 1958. Four-part vocal groups who did novelty songs with very simple instrumental parts are long gone from the Billboard charts.
