The Simple Play That's Destroying NBA Defenses

- The Sacramento Kings have been on of the best teams in the NBA behind De'Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis, holding a top seed in the Western Conference.
Under their new Head Coach Mike Brown, the Kings have crafted an offense that makes it incredibly difficult for opposing teams to slow them down. Domantas Sabonis being one of the best passing big men in the NBA makes it work, and with Fox, Keegan Murray, Kevin Huerter, and really their entire supporting cast, they're primed to be a dangerous team in the playoffs.

sabonis is such a good passer and the kings have the personal to have multiple options and counters out of sabonis dribble handoffs which is one of the most simple actions but the kings are so hard to guard out of that and in general their offense is almost impossible to guard
Dearon foxx and Malik monk are the fastest cutters in the leage
I've seen that same hand offs from Australian national team when bogut was still playing.. bogut would even pivot his foot to make it look like he made a screen using his back while he's facing towards the basket ready to roll after giving a hand off.. its quite challenging though in fiba tournament as the court is smaller and defensive player can stay in the paint without 3 second violation..
@@VS-np3yq I mean bogut was a number 1 pick🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️bro was elite as fuck
Can we talk about how Keegan is shooting 41 percent from 3s as a rookie?
on 6 attempts per game as well
He's on pace to break the record amount of 3's for a rookie
And I believe leading the entire league in 3pt % for two straight months
Just dropped 30 with 8/12 from 3pt. He’s that dude.

As a Kings fan, in the span of a year Sabonis became someone I was angry we traded for to my favorite player. He is our best player right now, no disrespect to Fox. I love this team.
Why would you have been angry. He is basically a lesser jokic. If Murray can pan out it can really work. I know Tyler sucks to lose but held is meh
@@emsj86 tyler
He definitely is not our best player. Fox is definitely our best player. He's our facilitator and is the quarterback on this team but Fox is that guy
@@emsj86 Ya easy to say that now! The Kings were clowned at the time, it was called a horrible trade, and actually most Kings fan I knew were very upset. Looking back no not so much
@@conEso916 You need to go out to a few more games. Fox may have been the best last year but the offense flows through Sabonis. And the fact he's an all star and Fox isn't? Dude is objectively better
I always like the video before the ad even finishes. Best bball UA-camr.
super clean breakdown my guy nice video dude
Reminds me of C.Webb & Bibby doing these handoff plays back then! LIGHT THE BEAM!!!
I played college ball for Rick Adleman’s brother during those same years and we ran a lot of the same stuff they did. We didn’t run it as good but I wasn’t exactly C-Webb with the ball in my hands.
I still think fox is underrated
Should be an All Star
Considering he didn't make the all star team he's *officially* underrated
Sabonis raising the ceiling of players around him
he still is
As a long-suffering "Kangz" fan, it's nice that my feed is finally filled with positive content! Good stuff!
Great video. Thanks for breaking down all of that. You’re teaching me basketball!
Sacramento will benefit so much from a successful Kings team. It will really help the city so much. I don’t know but I heard Bam might be coming. I think we are starting something big. Multiple championships, hanging banners! Go Kings!
lets go alex with another kings video!
If you make a Kings video I insta click faster than usual :)
- Kings fan.
Does anyone remember when Webber would hang out at the elbow and hand the ball off to Mike Bibby for the open mid-range jumpshot? 😁
Succinct analysis with actual film. Instant subbed
we are going to see more of this with the Orlando Magic next season.. They are an off season of improvement away from being able to run this in multiple ways..
If the coach is creative he could really be running this through Banchero and Wendell Carter Jr, especially through Banchero would be great as he can do about everything
Totally agree with the analysis. If you have a elite scorer on your team and lots of role player, and to have an elite center who can pass the ball and read the defense well like Sabonis is A+... He has an average 7 assist per game (rank12). While Jokic has an average assist per game of 10 (rank4).. Only 3 assist difference per game
it’s funny i used to run this exact offense in 2k as the 2016 cavaliers and it was the most OP thing in the world. so many different options come from a high pick and roll / dribble hand off. it requires a lot of chemistry but this team is something special
LIGHT THE BEAM!
Feel mavs missed the boat bkt getting sabonis as that’s the type of player Luka needs. He needs a big whom can pass pick roll etc.
best video you made yet
I love this breakdown of such a simple play. Didn't know what "DHO" stood for until this season tbh. Oh, and when you mention Monk being frustrating, he is frustrating for everyone, including Kings fans haha.
that's why they hire Mike Brown. isn't that familiar Draymond hand off to the Splash bros, or the cutting player like GP2, JP and so on. The Kings' ball movement, always look for open man, turns good looks to great looks, no ISO hero ball, on top of great effort on D, these are all the winning formulas from the Dynasty. Literally the Kings found their own version of Strength in Numbers, but imo, the only thing they missed is Playoff experience.
It is half Golden State and half Denver nuggets offense.
I am sure that Mike Brown did a lot of study on the Nuggets offense
This reminds me of a "play" we used to run with a friend on 2K. I would post with the big man on one side of the court (4-1). And a shooter would come to get the ball in a handoff. Getting an unguardable middle range shot
first domantis is goat
I think it is a make it or miss it league. In the end, it comes down to which team scores the most. This requires a balance of offence, defence, ànd special teams.
I think this is why with Adams being out has coincided with the grizz slide. The Adams/Band DHO is a great half court option with Ja on the bench.
Ironically that high post DHO, post splits action is what they ran when they had C-Webb, Vlade, Bibby and Peja. Skilled big men facilitating for shooters and cutters along the baselines.
Those actions used to give the Lakers (and Shaq) hell. No wonder the league stepped in to help the Lakers win the series in 02
As a Thunder season ticket holder, I’ll see this up close on Sunday
I’ve always loved Sabonis’s game
MY Brooklyn Nets just hired Jordi Fernandez. I suspect he's gonna install a similar version of this offense for us. Thanks for breaking it down 🙏
Great vid, subbed
As a sad GSW fan, I will support our Neighbors from SAC in the playoffs. Hopefully they can overcome the Mavs and Suns.
Appreciate it bro just don't bandwagon 😉
@@nicholasvargas6397 trying not to😂 ur guys offense is so Beautiful😭😭
Mavs are worse than last season as a team. Kyrie isn't enough for all they've lost since last year.
I really didn’t like the Sabonis trade for the Kings at first but I was looking at the game too trivially. I thought Sabonis wasn’t going to be able to space the floor enough for Fox to operate because I thought it mattered. I was wrong, Sabonis’ IQ and playmaking ability really makes them go. He also is a GREAT screener, he gets defenders out of the play so many times a game and gives the ball handler a ton of options.
Im happy for the kings. Its been a long playoff drought for their franchise.
That vid from 3 months ago aging life fine wine rn
Nice video!
It's these simple plays that are ran into perfection that makes very tactical coaches scratch their heads.
Remember when the Greece National Team ran effective pick n rolls against the US in the Tokyo Olympics?
Same way the Celtics and Lakers used KG and Pau at that elbow and have guys cut off it or create easy 1on1 for the center down low. Great passing big changes everything
If I was AlexHoops I’d update my playlists 💯 💜🔥❤️🔥
Nash - Stoudamire used to execute best handoffs
Nice vid and observation and whatever happens this season and off-season, I think the Kings would master that effective half court plays , then who do you think among the prospects of the NBA and possible acquisitions on trades and free agency can help the Kings with that kind of system? To really make it farther in the off-season or championship if their game will continue to succeed.
Golden state warriors is so advance, they created a multiple hand-offs play, actually not just binary but multiple
Beautiful elaboration. Of dribble hand off move, how great it is if used effectively over PNR.. thank u
A dribble handoff also allows a moving screen that's almost never called
What' make it effective?
Mike Brown
Harrison Barnes
Both GSW personnel which knows the system of ballmovement
I mean it’s a simple handoff play leading to centers trying to guard the perimeter. Automatically a mismatch and opens up for cutters to the rim. If they add that ripple in it would be even more challenging to defend.
Sabonis is so skilled passing it works
I'm so happy and excited for this team.. playoffs will be fun soon
All you need is a big man who can drive, play inside, great mid range, shoot the 3 with regularity, and pass…
I like how on that chart portland is next to Sac just because Dame is Dame
If you can stop Fox in the midrange, you get a 50'ish efg% in your face. Most likely 45%, though, if you can push him outside 16ft. So basically, keep him out of the paint, and inside the 3pt line where his efg% is about 50. Except in crunch time. Then, just double him and get the ball out of his hands if possible.
And definitely keep him outside 10 feet, where he's shooting 57% between 3ft and 10ft on teardrops. But it beats the hell out of letting him get to the bucket where he's smashing 80% like he's frickin' Shaquille O'Neal.
In fact, would you believe Shaq never shot 80% inside 3ft? He was .745 for his career and his career best was .779. That's how freaking insane Fox is finishing at the rack. DeAndre Jordan, who never met a dunk he didn't like, only finished above 80% twice in his career and is .728 for his career average. Fox is .712 for his career. That's incalculable madness. Absolute insanity. He's finishing at the hoop like he's Bill Russell or Wilt Chamberlain.
De’Aarhim Fox 🦊 🙌🏾✅
Is their defense good enough for the post season???
Sabonis gives me Saboners 😅😂
JAKSJAKA yeah I feel ya bro
DHO or aka moving Pick.
I was looking for a moving screen comment. That’s why this play works so well. You don’t see it effectively used without incorporating a moving screen!
Moving screens and apparently even some hand grabs/pushes to keep the defender locked. I'm not slamming on it, because if it works for the refs/for the league, why not exploit it. But it would definitely not work in many other settings.
I'm rooting for Kings, hope they can go at least 2nd round of the playoffs
Plumee and the hornets do it too to a lesser degree
I hope the gm doesn’t ruin this team by trying to get a big 3 like the nets did
that game last night was crazy!!! Kings beat my Clips 176-175 in 2OT. Fox and Monk were cookin. Sabonis DHO destroyed the Clips. Best game of the season so far!!!
they beat em again earlier, 128-127
Thier similar to warriors offence because of coach brown
I say if kings can make a deal to get Irving they could make a run would have to give up a lot of picks
No one wants Irving
That would actually be one of the worst decisions of all time
@@henry7486 I would be *more* inclined to do it if it cost like 2 1sts and Harrison Barnes. Any young players are untouchable, and no more than 2-3 1sts. MAX. Most likely he doesn't get traded and signs somewhere in the offseason.
@@texastech56789 I actually think that could possibly make them worse. Why mess up the chemistry while they’re flying rn? they don’t even need Kyrie, they already have Fox, Huerter, Monk, etc and the best ability is availability. It’s 100% not worth giving away any draft picks for something so pointless but risky
@@henry7486 not to mention Kyrie could be out of there after the season. What the King's need is someone who can defend the paint. They have the offensive pieces, and while Mike Brown may have improved somewhat their defense, a personnel who specializes on guarding the interior is a nice addition if they want to move further into the playoffs
I think its like a golden state type of play.. like they used to in good old days.. but now warriors has advanced it so far from kings
it helps when defense is the worst ever
Playoffs are a different animal a lot less space more defense pressure they will probably get bounced round one
It's not skill, it's Sabonis IQ
Lets bring back handchecking 😮
NBA defense? I’m confused, I didn’t know the NBA had defense
WEEE ARE LIKE THATTTT
Go Kings!!! Fox! HTOWN!
Budget Joker :o
Light The BeaM!!!!!!!!!
Rockets need to do this with Sengun
The Pass?
Nba has figured it out now
All from Mike Brown. That's how the warriors use Draymond
I think you meant the Euro-step.
who remembers when moving screens were actually illegal
Silas should take some notes
Credit to Mike Brown.
the Kings run DHO like the Eagles ran RPO with Jalen Hurts.
Their coach knows
Sabin is can take dudes off the dribble from the 3point line…
What Nba defenses?
Mike Brown effect
this is Sabonis' team. he changed it when he arrived.
Simply, Zoom on steroids
dnah this shit is literally impossible to guard
Looks like 2019-20 seasons Miami heat they similar
Red velvet is Money 💰😂
Parang SPURS noon grabe yung play.
The NBA has no defense to destroy.
These shows how simple the game is with great funmental with talent players on a team but also how god awful the league defensive standard become 😢
Kinda reminds me of Denver nuggets offense lmao
required viewing for game 3
Give Mike Brown COY
LIGHT THE BEAM
It's because of their coach
Draymond Green offense
I still think fox is the real reason the kings so good and sabonis looks so great this year , it’s not the other way around
what about last year then?
@@rampampamrampampam had horrible team around him
@@rampampamrampampam of course sabonis and other teammates help but even when sabonis is out and Holmes plays as long as we have fox and rest of team he can beat anyone
Backdoor cut is lazy defense.
the play which destroys the clippers
how did u predict this? r u from the future? that game last night was crazy Kings beat my Clips 176-175 in 2OT
it’s called hit 5 the play
Anything can destroy an NBA defense lol
