Yeah, Drogon's growth was accelerated by the return of magic. Magic was dying out when HOTD took place. Fortunately, good writing was alive and well back then
Dragons don't just "lose" their horns, they're part of their skull. Vhagar just never had big horns like other dragons, we can see that in hotd intro where she's portrayed with Balerion and Meraxes on that weird art.
5:15 Caraxes is actually a deformed dragon. But that deformity turned into his power. He has smaller wings on his legs for extra manuevers and is super agile & fast. His whistling noises are because of a deviated septum. And I also love the design of his tail. This long serpentine body and a very warrior like attitude got him the nickname, The Blood Wyrm!
They bred the fire worm and some other creature caraxes took on the serpentine 🧬 side which also would make his fire hotter hence him being more like the fire worm more than the winged creature
I feel like old dragons should be able to fly much faster, but less agile. Being large means you need more speed to fly which is also why Vhagar needs to run to fly, and when airborne should need to keep that speed to stay airborne.
Should of called the last stage elder. Since they are probably at there strongest and being old doesn’t make them that weak, maybe alot slower and some heart issues but saying elder dragons is cool to as there final form or life cycle
Yes thats why Aemond never pursued Meleys and Arrax got away almost every time until they were both ambushed! Vhagar has a lot of battle experience, which made bime tactically predict the enemy dragon and wait for an opportunity!
I’d argue that there is a stage between 6 and 7. As Vermithor and Silverwing being ~100yo feel like what a fully developed / full grown dragon looks like. I’d even call them ‘elder’ dragons as a precursor to 180yo Vhagars ‘ancient’ / old dragon form. As cool as Meleys and Caraxes are now, compared to how they’d look in 30-40yrs, it would be hard to call them ‘fully grown’ at 60yo
@@samanyupalthi nope he's in his prime, he's still smaller than Vhagar which means he still has room to grow even bigger than her since he's a male. Vermithor is about 100 years old, from what we can see dragons become old at the age of 150.

Weaker, smaller, and less fire power, but dragons in their prime are faster, more energetic and easy to anger and rise, more like a gun while a old dragon is like a cannon in comparison.
Good comparison will be 50 y.o. 6ft retired heavyweight champion vs 25 y.o. 5ft lightweght champion, results of the fight are quite unpredictable. I also noticed that dragons aparently do not regenerate their wing membrane (Vhagar's wings are full of holes), so dragons acumulate injuries and scars over time (Balerion never recovered from the trip to Valyria).
@@UnclePunchalot drogon did. atleast in the show. His wings were damaged in the arena in mereen but later in the show none of that can be seen. maybe they just heal slower or not at all when they reach a certain age
@@Hnke90 I think his wings were treated while wing-tears were fesh (before wounds turned into scars, so teared skin could be connected). @UnclePunchalot Drogon immediately fled to the wild, where he began to grow. I'm guessing he healed after his growth spurt in the show, sense younger dragons grow more rapidly compared to already older ones. I'm guessing that means his wing membranes just closed in as his wings grew.
just to be clear it was by no means the entire debt they had to braavos, they arent worth THAT much especially considering this was after the targaryens showed up on their doorstep with dragons and said if they're ever hatched they'd glass braavos. Really braavos risked it to try and lessen their dragon power while the targaryens tolerated only because they were banking them. There's also Aegon's dream to consider although dragons are great if you already have dragons, and you're pretty sure the bank cant hatch them anyways, making sure the realm is well funded and has a bank in their pocket for this eventual endless winter is a much better option.
Vhagar design is the worst in the show, I don't think is a good look for old dragon. The scales are supppose become to thouger by age, and not ugly leathery thing we see with Vhagar. Also is around 170 years. Balerion was around 210 at his death and would lived longer if not for his death trip to Valyria.
Drogon is big and people might think he’s really old but he’s probably around 10-13 yrs old… like the books say if a dragon has space to grow they will not stop growing so drogon was still very young in his size…
Drogon is for sure gonna be the largest dragon unless it some how killed before it has the chance to keep growing but it went back to its homeland with danys body so maybe resurrection game.
I don't get the limitless growing as long as they live. Even with magic being involved I wouldn't think that would be possible. Everything grow to a certain size with a few exceptions.
Some dragons reach full size at an early age. Like vermithor he was already big at age 10-14. Dragon is probably close to his ful size. He is small species dragon. There is no way he can reach same size as vermithor, vhagar or balerion.

In terms of physical strength
Not in terms of speed
More power and size, less speed and manoeuvrability
Old doesn't equal power. That's a false truth. Sure they're larger but that makes them easier to hit, slow to move and take longer to recover.
