As much as I want to see Max have a challenge, Oscar is NOWHERE close to where he can fight Max. McLaren has been on the pace to make a good car, don’t get me wrong. However, the skills Oscar has shown is limited compared to Max’s skills because he has 8 seasons to show how big of a menace he is on track for everyone. I feel like if he were to fight Max, he would need to have a couple of good seasons and prove that he is the better driver than Lando Norris. Until that point, the closest challenger is Lewis and Lando, with maybe Charles if Ferrari finished getting their heads out of their asses.

When will people realize that the most important thing in F1 is pace. Piastri can only challenge him if Mclaren has a way faster car than the RB to the point where it can compensate the deficit of pace between Piastri and Verstappen. However, if the Mclaren is indeed that fast, any top 7 drivers on the grid can challenge Verstappen in that Mclaren.
Mental fortitude is important, but only to a small extent compared to actual pace. Yes, Piastri has excellent mental fortitude, but his pace is comparatively abysmal to the top guys in F1. Only Hamilton and possibly Alonso that have both the pace and mental fortitude to beat Verstappen in a car with similar speed at the moment. The conversation about Piastri needs to stay inside the topic on whether he can beat Norris first.

As long as Max has a competitive car, there is no other driver on the grid who can beat him. Maybe the other driver will get a few wins over Max, but through the course of a season, there’s no one out there who can be as consistent as Max. Saying otherwise is a) a disservice to what Max has accomplished since 2018 (yup, he’s been consistent since then), and b) overhyping Oscar, who’s still a fledgling and whose career trajectory is not something we can predict.

Only beaten once by in his whole junior career and that was by George Russell when he was also competing against other future f1 drivers.Disappointing that you get the facts of Oscars move to Mclaren incorrect. When Oscar moved to Mclaren it was all done through Mark Webber his manager. The Move to Mclaren was signed before the famous tweet and not after. Mark approached Mclaren with Oscar who was a free agent.
There was no fight over Oscar simply Alpine tried to undoe their mistake by making out a letter of intent was a contract.
Lando is a much better driver than Daniel so not significant to compare his performance against Max. I expect a minimum two year extension to Landos contract shortly after testing the new car.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves here, he has plenty of things to show before even starting to consider him as a competitor for a championship. He has to improve one tyre management, something Max had from the get-go. Max was able to hold off Räikkönen for over 25 laps in his first race for RB to win it, the perfect test of tyre management since any rookie could easily cook his tyres in such a defense and fall off rapidly. Then there is wet racing, he has to show something there too. Max showed how good he was back in a downpour at Brazil 2016, Piastri has shown none of the like. He has the mental fortitude on his side, better than Leclerc for instance, i'll give him that, but he has plenty left to show if he wants to challenge Max.

Nope, I think he'll retire before anyone even gets close. They'd have to be driving at his level or better, with a car at his level or better. Unless something crazy happens at RedBull Max is good to go for a longtime.

Don't forget that there at least three other drivers that he needs to beat to challenge max. Charles is still my pick it's Ferrari that needs to improve, had Ferrari been a competent team closer to red bull in 2022 not just a faster car at the start, charles would have beaten max that year. Charles still beat carlos while having a worse time with the car.
