Hi I would like to thank you for the time and effort for making this video that was precise and accurate.
I was able to complete the entire task of replacing the idler pulley in our dryer.
It is people like YOU that have this knowledge to share with us that makes me proud of the generation that uses social media to empower others in an informative and helpful manner.
FYI I was in a panic mode after not having a dryer for approximately a week and then getting the courage to do this as a mom of a household with no one else available to do this task in a timely manner.
Thank You! We should all let Samsung know that this part should of never passed quality control when manufacturing these dryers and that all owners should be compensated for the replacement of the idler pulley.

I just had my similar model apart today. (There are many different models that are very similar mechanically..) Many of the rotating parts in dryers are designed to work without grease or tacky/liquid lubricants. Petroleum based lubricants are not the best idea in devices that intentionally develop high heat.. "fire bad!"
One of my 4 drum rollers (wheels that look like roller-blade wheels) was binding up a bit and causing a vibration (that went away when I tipped the entire machine forward or back while running), and I sprayed some graphite lubricant on all the shafts, along with cleaning all the lint and loose change and other crap that made it's way past all the filters and such over the past 5 years.
Watched your video to double check all the screws I took out and make sure I didn't forget something while reassembling it.
Good job editing and picking music that wasn't obnoxious.

This video was SO helpful! I have a samsung dv45h7000ew/a2. It started making an irritating squealing sound which changed to a grinding sound. After watching the video I purchased a new belt and idler pulley. I installed them and the dryer is working better then new. The whole thing took me 2 hours.

Thank you for such an easy to follow video. Finished the job in 30 minutes for less than $20. I actually found an idler pulley with a ball bearing collar, so no more plastic spinning on the metal collar. Hopefully that will stop it from melting. Stupid design of a part. But your video was top notch.

Great video, thanks for posting it. Like a lot of the commenters below, I had also heard you could replace the tensioner by going through the vent panel, but honestly, I cant see what I'm doing through there. A great video. Only comment I have is the top assembly does not need to come completely off. Just prop it up with a screw driver. This lowers the chance of accidently damaging the wiring harness connection or not hooking it up right again. Also the updated idler pulley system had a sealed roller bearing. It should last a lot longer than the original steel on steel setup. Thanks for your help! I greatly helped my process.

My newer Samsung dryer is like yours that has to be all completely pulled apart.
Earlier models had an easy access door for a 5 ? minute fix.
No way was I going to take the whole thing apart, so I took out the exhaust pipe, took my electric saw and made my own back door for the dryer, and easy-peasy, was able to replace the complete tension arm ($10 on ebay) .
It is the most common item to fail on the Samsung dryers.
Great money for repair guys charging $100 & up to come to your house.

    • @mohawk3371

Denver Flipperer these don't have to be pulled apart. Just remove the vent pipe and panel in the back of the dryer. This gives you perfect access to change the police system, and even replace a few other parts like the filter sensors.

Great video. I have the same model and mine started making noise after about 1.5 years and we do not use it a lot.
What a pain to have to remove all of these parts to get to the idler pulley!!
I was able to go through the dryer vent hole and pull the pulley.
You know Brandon I do not think there was ever any grease on the shaft/pulley. Mine had some rust on the shaft and the metal insert in the pulley, it was just about froze. I took some fine sand paper and removed the rust from the shaft and the pulley insert added grease and it is quieter and better than new.
From start to finish how long did this take you to complete this job?

  • @mohawk3371
    @mohawk3371 6 років тому +3

This is a good video. However I don't think you need to pull apart the dryer like that. If you had removed the vent pipe and panel, you would have about a 12 in diameter hole in the back giving you perfect to access to the motor and the pulley system. I just did this on my mine. The whole job took 20 minutes.

Just did this by removing the vent pipe from the rear. Plenty of room to work. Took me 5 minutes to remove the old pulley assembly by going this route. I think it was just 1 screw holding this in. Once removed, the whole vent/exhaust pipe comes out. Now just waiting for the new pulley to arrive. Be careful of the sharp edges of the sheet metal.

I have this exact model dryer only in gas. Yes you can replace the idler this way. However if you take it apart you can clean and grease the drum wheels, and replace the belt. Took me about 1 hour start to finish. Another tip you don't have to remove the top, it is hinged. pop up the front of dryer lid with flat blade screwdriver. lift it up a bit remove the wires from the wire holders and lean it back, saves a BUNCH of time, and headaches. 11 Philips head screws and its apart. I bought a repair kit off Ebay with idler, drum wheels, and belt.

Cool vid but you don't have to take the whole top off.You use a flat screw driver or putty knife to push in the 2 front tabs and the top is hinged so you open the top like the hood of a car.Alot of extra work in your vid and possibility of damaging crucial wiring that isn't necessary.

Do not have to remove all those parts. Just one part and one screw. Remove the vent in the back of the dryer. then one screw for the idler arm. You do not even need to remove all that to replace the belt.

For my DV48J7770EP/A2 model dryer. Tensioner pulley has dual ball bearings (but I still greased the shaft because I didn't know about the bearings until the pulley was off and at that point why not?). Highly recommend, replaced the belt too because if it's squeaking from a bad tensioner then damage has been done so why not spend the extra $5 since you're taking it apart anyway.
Great vid we have slightly different models but close enough that the vid was super helpful. AND kudos for showing the reassembly instead of just flashing some text like "reverse disassembly to reassemble GG I'm out!" Keep up the good work.

that is suck you need to disconnect those wires & dismantle every parts of the panel just to replace the pulley, i need to replace the pulley next week so i am confused OMG

Rob Bravo you don't have to do all of that. You could access the police system by removing the vent pipe in the back. It literally should take 20 minutes. Just remove 1 screw and the whole panel and vent pipe come out. This leaves about a 12in diameter whole in the bottom back of the dryer. You should have plenty of space to reach the pulley system, disconnect the spring unscrew it and remove it. All the stuff the guy did is unnecessary.

Ridiculous amount of disassembly just to replace a wear part.

thanks for the video, it really helped out a lot and now my dryer doesn't squeek. sometimes my poop would dry out in the dryer and look like some jerky. it's nice to see that I can start making my jerky poo again.
