The Rally ST looks so cool imo....I just got one today, I thought it would have been a little faster than 16 out of the box, but no sweat we can always make it rip!!!!! That's part of the fun working on them...great speed runs and done accurately!!👍👍
Hobbywing xr8 pro 4s 200a esc with sensored 2600kv motor, add mod 1 gearing and watch how fast you'll be.
It is geared for bashing.

Thats really impressive! I had a slash vxl 2wd that only hit 38mph with a 2s , may of gotten a few more mph with more space but 33 with a brushed ?! That's awesome

I’m in the process of building a custom rally car out of an Arrma Typhon TLR. I believe it’ll be the rally car Traxxas should’ve built. It’s a shame theirs wasn’t brushless. I had to watch this video though. Amain suggested I just buy this when I told them what I was doing with the TLR. I just laughed. Very cool car, don’t get me wrong. I just want a Rally RC that’ll hit speeds over 60mph. I just wish someone made one like that from the factory. Oh well, that’s what’s great about this hobby! If you can dream it, you can build it. I really enjoyed the video . Thanks for sharing!
I actually just bought a typhon to do the same thing😂 I have a castle brushless system and it already hits 60, I’m just finishing up the body and it should be perfect.

Depends on what some would want to do. For a regular rally RC track its maybe already too fast.

i bought the VR fiesta version about a year and a half ago, speed was like yours, so like you i wanted some more...
i went ahead and fitted a Velineon VXL-3S motor+esc in it...
ehm... i have to run it at 50% throttle to not break the original drive shaft as when i run it at 100%, that thing litirally deforms at full throtlle. also, im not sure what speed im getting but im sure its hitting around the 60-70 mark, if not a bit more.
sure the 'upgrade' wasnt cheap, but if you want to get more speed its well worth it.
did i mention that its hard to control at those speeds? :D

What is the highest pinion gear I can run continuously that won’t damage the motor but has a higher count than the stock?
We all have Rally rigs as well and my buddy put the 28t pinion in his and on the 2nd lap burned his motor up. FYI
I remember having a brushless motor with a double battery set up
It was INSANELY FAST , it would pull wheelies

Why are so many people blinded by speed ? Much more important is HANDLING ! I bought a FIESTA ST for RC Rally Racing ( equivalent to SCCA TSD Class ). Suspension, tightness, precision and accuracy of steering, double-thickness speed-run body, super slickery high gloss aerodynamic bodies, aerodynamic wheel covers, wheel well covers, a real spinning gyroscope coupled to TSM, AUDRINO controlled front air dam and spoiler are things racers should be MOST concerned with ! Servos need to have minimum latency and transmitter sticks need Hall Effect Sensors. Voice alerts and voice/thought recognition control would help things as well.
Interesting what you ssy about speed. In my opinion, All cars now days need to be sendt out in orbit around the globe to be fun. And one thing I realy tired hearing is, brushed is for beginners. Played with rc cars the last 30 years. Started in the early 90's. Speed is easy fun, but rc hobby is so much more than that. But we see for sure, the produsers riding that speed wave at full steam. All my traxxas cars are brushed. I'm actually making a brushed Hoss these days 😊🏁
@@originalrcfun7368 I agree whole-heartedly ! RC is so much more than RTR wheeled groundies with brushless motors and LiPO batteries ! My first RC was a BIG GUFF replica; escapement, nitro, 465 MHz with radio tubes in both transmitter and receiver ! Today I do ground vehicles ( most with electric motors one wind powered land yacht ), power and sail boats, aircraft and quads :)
Im more worried about acceleration. Rally cars arent meant for top speed. Its how fast they get back up to speed.

Hey, new to the hobby so I’m a little lost lol, drove mine yesterday and went over a hard sand jump and after the car is making a grinding noise and the gear inside the stock motor or like the white spinning gear u can see thru the little hole in the motor like doesn’t spin or catch sometimes but the big black rod in the center always spins, and no matter if I go in reverse or forwards just a loud grinding sound and sometimes it takes seconds for the car to like “catch” and then it starts moving but the grinding never stops if I try to move at all, even rolling the car on the ground only the black rod spins and the motor doesn’t do anything. any idea what the problem could be? Thank you
Sounds like you need a new motor! It’s hard to tell for sure but it sounds like the cooling fan in th motor came off or something of that nature, new motor is like 20 bucks, make sure u keep them clean and oiled!
Does it have any issues overheating?
pay attention to your motor temps, there's a fine balance between pinion and spurs to not overheat your motor or esc, having your gearing to low will cause the motor to get hot being maxed on RPMs all the time, having the gearing to high will cause it to get hot because it's pushing a lot more current trying to keep the motor up in rpms to the gearing, Gotta find that happy balance where the motor and esc are happy and your speed is well... whatever the motor and esc are happy at. Unless you just plan on doing speed runs, But why buy a rally car for speed runs.
I would love this car if i can get it doing 50 ish mph on 3s with acceleration being good and not having it pushed to the limit

Where did you get your battery?
16 mph!? No wonder when I bought it I immediately went back and bought a better motor for it, making a 300 rc 450 dollars. I also upgraded the drive shaft to a nice blue aluminum instead of the plastic stock.

yes a 30 would fir
Depending on your spur size you should be able to fit a fairly large pinion with a 76t spur i was able to fit a 36t pinion

No unfortunately we dont... its a fairly simple process that you can figure out with a quick search. Let us know if you still need help after that 👍

Any downside to having the 28 tooth and everything else stock? Like will it wear or break anything in the long run.
It could overhear your motor possibly if you don’t let it cool down. Honestly if I were you the 17T was the most fun and that’s what I would use if using the stock power system. Any higher and it effects the acceleration and braking.
But to answer your question no it will not. I’d 100% upgrade to a brushless power system if you are ready as well. 👍

The plastic mostly breaks it's better if you put most of the stuff metal bc you can crash and the axel can break or the turning gear and the suspension can break if you do something dangerous to it
All it needs is a 3200kv motor, esc, 4x4 slash slipper to run54t 32p spur and a 20t 32p pinion and a 3s battery

I just typed the wrong comment it's not a spur gear its a pinion gear. Just put Traxxas 5639 34tooth pinion gear on a Traxxas Rally with a stock spur gear ok?
That combination actually does not fit
If you are wanting to fit a 34t pinion you will need to opt with a 76T spur gear
I was guessing 15 when I seen it drive around. Instantly thought, holy moly that is slow. Weak battery?
Nope, fully charged 2s lipo, just slow gearing for a underpowered 4x4 car
The reason Traxxas never stated it’s speed is because, NO ONE would buy it if they new it only went 16MPH stock out of the box! 🤔(I guess that’s why you never see them anywhere.)
My recommendation lower a Slash or lift a 4-TEC.

No you cannot… from the factory it is only a brushed system. Only 2s capable.
I have it I hate it way to slow for me even with 28 tooth pinion

It gets a little warm on the highest gearing but not too bad. In the end it’s still a brushed motor
They will overheat with lipo batteries but heat sinks fixes that problem

Did the fastest combo and the speed is there but not the acceleration. It also over heated my motor. Beware if you guys plan on doing this

Also in the video 🤦🏼♂️ it went 33 with the highest gearing I used. I’m sure it could do 40 with a fully charged lipo because it was pretty much dead at that point.

Everybody is so one dimensional thinking on literally everything now days. Strait line speed is all they can even comprehend… this is not a drag car… neither are slashes… traxxas MAKES a drag car… Traxxas MAKES a crawler Traxxas MAKES a trophy truck… Traxxas MAKES A trail truck… this is a TRACK RALLY CAR…. Indoor or outdoor course racing specifically designed for rally racing…. Not balls to the walls wide open drag or roll racing. Want that ….get an arrma limitless… this is a budget friendly rally course car… people want it all in one package but don’t have the $$ to put the fufillment where the want is…
