Unpopular opinion. I really like the BL-2S system because you can blast it and it stays cool. Way cooler than even the VXL system running 2S. Very nice for the Texas heat. No fans needed. No cool down waiting period or frying your motor.
I avoid that issue entirely by not running Traxxas electronics. The vxl system is one of the worst brushless systems I've ever had the displeasure of running. Overheats even in the snow
@@demothsthe bl2s is way better surprisingly. The open fan was a stupid decision and makes it near useless for this purpose. Would be great in a 2wd where the motor can't pack with trash
I would be good with the VXL upgrades like the center aluminum driveshaft with the BL2s system. I have been wanting the rally for a long time but i always end up getting something like a 1/6 scale rc instead. I just want something i can run full throttle all the time and not worry about going 50+.
I got a great deal on a brushed car. I put my castle copperhead 10 and 4200 kv motor in it and i am constantly breaking rear suspension parts so i just made a big vxl upgraded parts order.
grabbed my VXL on release day. havent ran it yet, maybe this weekend. looks really cool, i am excited. i was going to transform my Rustler 4X4 to a lowered street car this spring. now i dont have to
If you stretch the budget for the vxl, then it's the better option, IMO. I know the BL-2S is better for kids and noobs but you can also put the VXL esc in training mode and run it at 50%. It's the best of both worlds.
It’s meant for packed dirt tracks or packed dirt not made for rock climbing lol found clearance is not an issue they have other cars for different terrain 😎
Bought the bl-2s before I knew there was a vxl on the way. I’ve already got a Tekno big bone center drive shaft and Robinson racing gen3 clutch to put in with a max10g2 140a combo but it sounds like I’ll snag the turnbuckles and drive shafts off the vxl when Jenny’s gets them
I was a mechanic for paradise hobbies in south Florida and I converted a slash 4x4 into a low cg rally car. Sadly the shop was sold, new owner shut it down.
We’ve had four of the original Rally VXL’s in the family for 10 years or so. Still kickin. We’ve had some great driveway racing action. May be time to replace them!
I like the look of the new Rally's, but I still have my old 1/10 Rally, custom built from a Slash Ultimate slider back in 2015. That thing is a beast and still runs great, likely because I keep it on the street. I wonder if the narrower track width would make the newer style more fun, though.
COmmenting here to say that in June 2024, Traxxas is selling the 2L-S as a combo with the battery and charger for 330$ all-in. I still agree that the VXL is faster/better/etc.... but if you're newer to the hobby, I have a feeling sales like this will happen again and it is a GREAT way to enter the hobby when you don't have anything already. I ordered a FIesta ST myself as I don't really have anything like it and I'm looking forward to tearing up my local dirt hiking trails with it when it comes in.
I like the comparison. I spent a ton of money and time making a brushed Rustler 4x4 into a VXL spec and if I could do it again I would just get the VXL from the start. All those parts add up!
I did the same thing man. Couple of years ago before all this fancy 2S stuff came out, but man I completely overlooked how the car is priced for the brushless version, then slightly reduced with BIG features removed to hit that lower price point for the brushed system. I spent waay way too much money on the Rustler. Had a great time with it and learned about RC so not a waste of time, but I spent way too much money for sure.
I did the same with a Brushed 2WD Slash. Upgraded it fully to a 2WD Slash VXL and later sold it as I had ended up buying a 4WD Slash Ultimate and have further upgraded that. I'm half tempted to go for the UDR, but my Ultimate Slash goes faster than the UDR and is almost half the cost.
I was heading to the hobby store to buy the 2S the day I got the email about the VXL release. My green Rally arrived today! I have numerous upgrade parts waiting to be installed when I get home. BYW I see you got a new Gladiator !!! 👍
Awesome.. Wish they either offered different bodies or an actual Fiesta rally livery... The Snap On version with the Nitro RX body is cool too but not available.
Great review as always👍 Between the two, that VXL is going to be a hard one to turn down. Even for a noob, dial the throttle down in the app and when ready, plow on the power😆 Traxxas picked a good time to revamp these beauties. Rally seems to be taking an uptick.
I got the BL-2S car. My friend bought it for me. I like it. It is very stable and goes about 25 MPH. Also, I was not able to flip it. I saw on the faster car you could flip it. I want my wife and my kids to drive it. I am going to upgrade the drive train to metal parts that Traxxas does sell. I got 3 parts and it only cost $30.00.
Ive just purchased the snap on version, i mean its nothing the same underneath, the front and rear turnbuckles are matchsticks, and its brushed 🤣🤣 .. i feel like shes gunna be pricey to match the vxl for sure
The BL2S is Perfect for beginners and Kids. Robustness is key and kids are Hard on stuff, so my thought is that the BL2S can handle what beginners and kids will throw at it. As for the VXL, its an upgrade to the BL2S so I think itll be great at tracks and keep up with the Slash VXL Ultimate.
Got the VXL model 3 weeks ago and not regretting the additional $100 cost. Agree they need to add mud guards etc to stop all the debris from collecting. The one upgrade I would recommend out of the box would be adding cooling fans.
