SHOULDER STABLISATION BY CORACOID BLOCK (LATARJET PROCEDURE) - DR MATTHIEU MEYER - PARIS, FRANCE

- A coracoid bone transfer (Latarjet procedure) is proposed in the case of recurrent anterior luxations to restore shoulder stability enabling a return to the same level of sports activity as before. This procedure is carried out using a minimally invasive approach and provides reliable shoulder stabilisation even when luxations have caused off-track bone damage to the head of the humerus or the scapula.
Just had this surgery 5 days ago! The pain is honestly not bad at all and I’ve dwindled down in the intake of pain medication already. So far so good, I’ll keep you posted on the progress!
To all the people who are here before their surgery, I was in a very similar boat as you. I underwent surgery in sept 2023, as of today, jan end 2024, I have regained most of my movements, and the problem has gone away completely. What remains is regaining the previous strength, and I am undergoing an exercise regimen for that and future looks hopeful. I am thankful to my physician. Choose your physician wisely and once you are in good hands, this surgery works wonders. Do remember you have to work through the initial pain post surgery, but it’s all worth it in the end. What helped me during the “pain days”, was not skipping the exercise(it was light opposing forces exercises, where you put pressure on your muscles but don’t move your limbs), and it made everything easier. And of course family members, who cared and stood by my side. I wish you all the best.
Hi, Im getting this surgery in 2 weeks (I already had Bankart repair 6 years ago but my shoulder popped out again and broke bone). How are you feeling now?
@@1ukasvnhow you doing bro? I had two bankart repairs 7 & 9 years ago and my surgeon wants to do a latarjet now
@@FunkyXF pretty well, i’m 2,5 months post-op and I almost have full ROM (i’ll take me about 3/4 weeks for that).
Lots of pain first 2 weeks (get a shoulder ice pack from amazon) and lots of swelling.
Started PT a months afterwards, I’m a PT and coach as well so I kinda know what to do (also from my previous surgery) so I only went like 1/2 days per week but worked rom exercises everyday at home. First month was all ROM work and muscle treatment and then moved to light exercise with bands and little weights.
I now have my own training program, and keep going like once a week to PT and other day a colleague helps me at home. I exercise almost everyday.
Still a long way to go (full ROM, full strength, running again and contact sports on like 7-8 months post-op)
Take this guide for your rehab, it has been helpful for me as a patient and a physical therapist profesional as well: banffsportmed.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Shoulder-Stabilization-with-Latarjet-Protocol-Mar-2020.pdf
@@1ukasvn thanks bro! Yea im also doing lots of fitness, mobility and coaching on my own. Right now im 4 weeks post dislocation and im having full rom without a feeling of instability. Before my last bankart fix i was completly untrained and the shoulder was unstable af
Im trying to resolve it with PT first and use the latarjet as last resort as i don’t want to do it until i have sub or luxations in my daily live but i guess at some points i will have to do the jet.
Keep me updated and i hope your getting back to before asap!
@@FunkyXF great!! keep it up and get strong af to prevent those subluxations
I suffered from repeat dislocations after an accident and this surgery alongside labrum anchors have been the best thing for me.
Do you lose some range of motion?
@@AadithyanAppusyou probably lose like 5-15% range of motion in certain flexions some better than others , the surgery is risky but for excellent results of recovery and rehabilitation is followed to the T
Que concejos me pueden dar ? Ya que próximamente me someteré a una cirugía de hombro técnica de Latarjet, es riesgoso el procedimiento?;gracias
I’ve had 7 dislocations , one Labrum repair 4 years ago and two weeks ago I dislocated my shoulder again doctor recommended this surgery as a last resort. Getting this procedure done in two weeks
How has it worked? Good luck!
@@TheInmortalVerse I’m on week 3 . First night was horrible I was admitted into the hospital for the night and discharged the next morning. Meds helped alot . Pain is manageable after a couple days. 3 more weeks on the sling to go. I do feel a difference on my shoulder ! Thanks!
@@irvinggarcia8511Thank you!. And was very different than your labrum repair? Was that surgery less painful ? Or the pain lasted less?..
@@TheInmortalVerse Oh yes the labrum surgery was less much painful , I had little to no pain when I got it I was cleared within 3 months by the doctor and returned normally
I has the labrum repair three weeks ago and man, for me the first two days were hard , and still hurts a little sometimes. Let's see if It works..
Excellent graphics and explanation.
To anyone scared about this : It's 100% worth it. Did my left shoulder when I was 17, rehab took 6 months haven't dislocated ever since despite doing a healthy regimen of sports.
On my way to doing my right one as well.
I had this surgery 10 months ago. I did 14 muscle ups today!
I’ve had this surgery on my right shoulder and it helped me tremendously on returning back to sports, I’m a competitive jiu jitsu athlete and I also train mma too, I can do everything I need to now and of course lost some range of motion but that’s the sacrifice you make and it was worth it as I still have enough range of motion to stretch, reach grab for anything, unfortunately my left shoulder has popped out during training now a couple times and I’m trying to get myself on waiting list to get the same surgery again on the left shoulder this time, I’m only 23 and so it’s really young to be getting a second surgery but that’s how must trust I have in the procedure as from experience I know it’s reliable, it’s much better than dislocating the shoulder or sublux the shoulder everytime you put pressure on it or over extend it’s a pain in the ass I’d rather lose some range of motion and have good leverage of the shoulder without pain xoming
Bro I’m getting this next week how long is the recovery before I go back to training again
@@ibbygtf 7-12 months brother, you have to take it serious lots of rehab and strength building, also takes a lot of mental toughness to allow yourself to put your arm is certain positions again, but the surgery is perfect my arm never popped out since and I feel a lot stronger and more comfortable grappling now
which muscle/tendon did they transfer in this procedure? Was your internal rotation strength affected? And can you do shoulder presses?
@@ibbygtf what did your mri show that they offered the procedure? I have anterior instability for a long time but mri was not bad.Shoulder is still terrible.
@@GoodByeSkyHarborLive all my strength is fine, of course I got used to using my left arm now so predominantly my left is stronger now and I use more but in terms of bench press, shoulder press, supine fly, push ups, pull ups, it’s all perfect, my mri had bankart lesion and torn labrum also something else but I forget the name sorry and I’ve lost most those documents
got like ten dislocations and always returned the arm back on place alone. couldn't stand it anymore.
Now is one month since the surgery, pretty early but it feels a lot better, TG
Had this surgery 9 days ago, dam it hurt first few days, have some movement in my arm again, can't wait for full ROM
This is an incredibly painful surgery. I’m currently in week 2 of recovery and physical therapy is essential for of course movement but also pain management
Did you have bone loss and that's why they did the procedure?
@@GoodByeSkyHarborLive actually in my case I did not have bone loss, but the procedure was still recommended because I had two arthroscopic tightening surgeries that were unsuccessful in preventing shoulder dislocations
@@Monica17N were they capsular plication procedures?
Getting a tightening surgery in a few days. Not this one but the other one. Wonder how painful that's gonna be. They gave me oxycodone and it kinda makes me worry.
Kinda just hope I can still play warzone when it releases in a week lol
How is your shoulder now?
I had latarjet surgery on my right shoulder around 12 years ago.. ask me anything.
Hey how is your shoulder strength now? do you lose some range of motion?
@@bigsmoke2558 I lost some external rotation but it does feel a lot more stable. Since my surgery I've been able to bench press 265lbs, overhead press 135lbs and dead lift 400lbs. The only exercise that commonly inflames my shoulder is side planks.
Hey, just wondering did the surgery affect your bicep/bicep growth when you got back into the gym?
@@msmike101 others may not perceive a difference between the two in size but I can feel a difference in strength when it comes to curls. no pain or anything like that, just a few less reps (maybe 2-3) compared to my other arm with the same weight.
@BSpears it’s been 3 days post surgery was ur bicep in pain after surgery there is extreme pain when flexing my bicep and i feel like the actual bicep muscle has moved down my arm or It could be swollen at the bottom end
I'm 9 weeks from surgery, first 3 weeks were bloody awful and if I didn't use tramadol the pain would've kept me awake at night. Still now it's sore and weak and my surgeon recons it's going to be a minimum of 6 months before im over the surgery. Back to work as a decorator though and look forward to getting back into the gym and back into boxing. I hope my shoulder is going to be a strong as I hope from the op 🤞
Just had mine done 2 weeks ago it’s still in the sling but when I take it out to shower. It’s sorta clunky and pops around did you experience anything like this?
@@finessekid6684 I've just passed the 3 month mark mate and it's still a long road ahead! Still incredibly sore on and off although I do have a full range of motion now and can lift very light weights to slowly build the strength up. Gong to be ages before I can go boxing or hit the gym properly. I never got a clunky feeling.. it was just very painful for the first month. I still now get a click though just like before!
Hope your recovery goes well! Just don't expect to much to soon like I did 😅 it's a very slow and long recovery unfortunately pal!
@@finessekid6684 Mine is popping and still sore after almost 2 years. :/
@@nigeltan397 yes it started to fade away around week 4-6.. I almost have full range of motion all around except for my exterior rotation. Just got cleared to start with light weight a couple weeks ago.. I’m little over 3 months post op.. just keep up with ur pt everything will be good brotha.
@@finessekid6684 thanks brother. Was concerned about that. Appreciate the reply, bless
Realy good super
I dislocated 7 years after Latarjet and got a Remplissage 3 weeks ago. So there is everything done now what´s possible?
Did that remplissage help? What does it feel like after having it done? Did it cause any infraspinatus weakness?
You dislocated after the to laterjet?
I had these in both of my arms and i prefer the previous state with dislocation.
Why? I’m getting this procedure soon. Tell me more plewse

Hey guys.
I’ve juste had this surgery yesterday morning. Just wanted to tell you that this not as painful as a lot of people are saying.
If you have any questions you can ask me, I’ll answer you with pleasure 😊
Hi Ruby! Hope ur doing well
I also had the surgery 1 month ago, and m curious to know how do you feel right now (ROM,pain OR not!!)
Also How are things going with your phisio ?
Thanks!!
@@DiscoverTworld Hey man !
I feel pretty good. I almost recovered all my range of motion. The external rotation and hyper flexion (arm straight behind my head) still hurts me a bit.
I can do a few pushups on my knees and lateral raises almost without pain. I still have to wait 1 more week to start strengthening again my biceps.
My physio is pretty good even though I feel like I’m not doing enough proprioception at all and not even rotator cuff strengthening. But I do it myself at home.
How about you mate ?
Any updates on ur recovery?!
@@kiranthakur8793 Hey !
I’m doing pretty great now. I went back to boxing, and didn’t have any problem. I still have some pain on very few movements like handstand push-ups but other cases I’m doing great
Mine piped out 5 years later
With Latarjet? You have literally a wall in front of the shoulder, how did it happen?
@@simone9945 most likely had another freak accident, that’s usually how people with laterjet get a recurrent dislocation,
@@craigd2352 yes it is weird. If latarjet is done correctly with the two screws and bones healed together you have basically a wall with screws so you must have a really heavy pounding in the joint.
@@simone9945 yep although when I try to externally rotate my shoulder and it reaches its limits I know if something pushed it further I may do damage so I assume that’s what’s happened to this guy, and if it broke the corcoroid in another dislocation ouch I’d bet that hurt
@@craigd2352 you can't break the coracoid but yes it's the same for me. The screws they put block the joint so externally I'm slightly blocked too but it's the goal of surgery to block the joint from popping. This guy must have had a serious injury I suppose.
