  • Latarjet Procedure Rehabilitation - Case Study (Latarjet Surgery)
    Quote from Wikipedia - The Latarjet procedure involves the removal and transfer of a section of the coracoid process and its attached muscles to the front of the glenoid. This placement of the coracoid acts as a bone block which, combined with the transferred muscles acting as a strut, prevents further dislocation of the joint.[3] In layman's terms, this procedure involves removing a piece of bone from another part of the shoulder, and attaching it to the front of your shoulder socket. The bone will then act as a barrier which will physically block the shoulder from slipping out of the socket, while the muscles which are transferred with the bone will give additional stability to the joint.

    Hey bro thanks for the video. I had the procedure done almost 14 months ago, i didn't do the greatest job rehabbing it at first but the last 4 month i start to, i've been going to the gym and lifting weights, probably more then i should, the last 2 weeks or so im getting a sharp pain at least once a day, it don't last long, maybe like 5 seconds or so, even if i'm not moving my arm, their just random shooting pains, do you have patience experience this?

    Like the serratus exercise with sit up,
    But little discussion, the scars and some Golgi dysfunctions may also be assessed to screen out neuromuscular problem after this intensive shoulder procedure.

      Neuromuscular testing is always important after surgery but we address dysfunction in a similar, mechanical manner.

    Just had surgery two weeks ago. I'm greatly concerned about not getting back to the exercises in weight training that I enjoy after reading some of these comments. My Dr. led me to believe that this was a pretty basic procedure and I'd be back at it in 4-6 months, but we shall see. Anything is better than the dislocations.

    I had a Latarjet done in October of 2020. I’ve gotten back to heavy usage on my bike, full strength pull ups, but have really struggled with chest exercises. I also have pain all the time still in my infraspinatus and teres minor area. My anterior deltoid pain was pretty bad early on when I did any type of military press movement, but it has passed. I think I have nerve issues when I fully internally rotate my wrist towards my stomach. But overall, I am happy with the latarjet procedure I think. I don’t know anything else 🤷🏼‍♂️

      Book detailed deep tissue massage therapy session. I did and it relieved a solid 95% of my discomfort. The muscles and tissue stiffen up and form “scar tissue” which restricts movement. Afterwards I felt great. I’d say book an appointment once a week for 4 weeks. Best of luck👍🏽

    Are pull ups safe to do after having this procedure done? I’ve had the Latarjet procedure done but haven’t been confident to do any pull ups. Any other exercises in the gym one should absolutely stay away from after this surgery ?

    • @OverheadAthletics

      That depends on how exactly they did the procedure. Once the bone heals it just depends on the stability of the joint. I would avoid any exercises that elicit pain or increasing discomfort over time. I’d also stay away from upright rows and Chest flies.

      I had the same problem after my surgery. as you can imagine after being in a sling and limited from movement for a length of time the muscles had become tight and restricted but with light weights and excercises to increase my range of movement it soon came right. Its hard to believe that not long ago I could not touch the back of my head, now I have full range again and my shoulder is sitting where it should when I do so. Just my 2 cents of positivity to anyone in the same boat who is worried about the same thing, there is light at the end of the tunnel

    Hi there! I'm 27 and I had Latarjet procedure in October 2021 after Bankart repair in 2017 which I failed in 2021. I did it even though I saw comments about potential nerve injuries when I made the decision. I do sports that's why I decided to have these surgeries, I hoped they would help. I can't believe that I am not able to flex my biceps at all, also I experience constant pain, totally regret having Latarjet surgery. My musculocutaneous nerve is injured, electromyography says I've got neurapraxia (axonotmesis). I keep exercising and thinking positive, but I'm so scared at the same time. Do people usually recover after such things? Is there any statistics or research about frequency of such complications? Thank you!

    • @OverheadAthletics
      @OverheadAthletics  2 роки тому

      Do not worry about the statistics. You are not a number. As far as recovery goes to do the right things do you have a good chance of getting back to what you might say is 100%. However not everybody gets back to 100% if you get close that’s a big win

    • @andriikysil9716
      @andriikysil9716 2 роки тому +1

      @@OverheadAthletics I’ve made a good progress in stretching and recovering rotation (~80% internal, ~50% external), but my biceps is still dead unfortunately, so I'm having a revision surgery on 02/17/22. My doctor says there must be something compressing the nerve, so we need to get rid of the assumed compression, but there may be several reasons for neurapraxia. Worst case, if the nerve is damaged/cut, doctors will take a nerve from my leg and I hope I will get my arm working in a couple of months. I can follow up here if you are interested, just remind me please so I don’t forget. You are right, I shouldn’t care about stats, I just wanted to know what to expect. Anyway, the only thing that matters to me now is to have a woking biceps and continue doing sports after all this recovery hell is over…

      @@yehhobaib2525 hey man, I’m still doing physio once a week and hitting the gym 4-5 times per week to do cardio and lift LIGHT weights - it’s a slow recovery man. My Range of motion is much better when lifting my arm but external rotation is still tight so I’m really trying to work on that via stretching. The arm still feels achy and sore but that’s normal because of the working out and trying to build it back up. As for how long you’re in the sling, I was in a sling for 8 weeks but at the 4-5 week mark I would remove it to do pendulums and shoulder blade squeezes a few times a day. I would also remove it sometimes to let my arm hang down and I would walk around the house a bit - having your arm in internal rotation for so long - especially with this surgery which tightens the joint up - leads to restrictions for external rotation. My physio says the recovery will take a year, maybe a bit more. The surgeon said I would return to sports in 8 months but he was wrong. Like I said, I’m back in the gym, but slow and steady wins the race bro. Don’t over do it and take care of yourself man. Eat healthy too - your body needs the nutrients.
