I’m sure you could get sponsors to either pay for or offset the cost of a new fancy boat yet you stick to your tried and true workhorse . I love the fact you’ve always kept it real in your videos / fishing. Form always follows function. As an educator and fellow fisherman I appreciate your approach.

John, I've been making and using Fish-Hair on my jigs for almost 50 years. I've found that carving out the stem/thread part of your molds to allow a little more flair/kick to the hair improves action. I've known guys that used small wraps of duct tape on the stem to do the same thing. Also, when tying on the hair, I wind the thread close to the end kick to preload more spring to the fish-hair. This further increases the "puff" action when worked through the water. Bottom line is artificial hair works fine. PM me if you need more clarification.

FYI John, they changed the size limit on porgies to 10”. I actually prefer them to be 11” to get a good fillet. I was out on a party boat we were catching the same size you were. There were some jumbo’s caught, but mostly average size.

Went out yesterday on a buddy's boat in the same sound that I fish. Been blowing NE for 7-8 days and was still blowing yesterday. Water was filthy. Jig disappeared within 3-4 inches from the surface. We definitely didn't have high expectations, but you can't catch them from the couch! 4 inch pink shine grub on the bottom and 3 inch white and pink swimming mullet on the dropper. I continually slathered Lip Glu "The Stink" on the grub every few minutes. Low and behold, I had three flounder in the boat before my buddy had one. The scent gel was definitely the predominate productive factor in this dirty water. I think things will only get better today and tomorrow. Great video on these bucktails!! I will never stop loving your scientific approach to the sport we love so much!!

john,,,as a flytyer there is so many great synthetic hairs available that it would make your head spin..ive been using all synthetic hair on all my fluking bucktails for 5 years now and would never use natural bucktail again unless im buying s&s bucktails but when the hair falls apart i use synthetic hair to re do them..its way way more durable and its all solid inside and not hollow like deer hair so the sink rate like you mentioned is very noticeable allowing you to use less weight...synthetics have so many more vibrant colors and you can add sum kinda flash as well with tons of different flashes out there you just use your imagination..enrico puglisi has sum really great synthetic hair and flash designed for saltwater applications..glad your back up north and have a great fluke season..so far here in nj the fluke fishing has been fantastic from opening day..

@@JohnSkinnerFishing I like that you have a top of the line trolling motor with spot lock, a good fishfinder that is not necesarily top of the line, and a beater boat that is servicable for the waters you use. I fish water so shallow a fish finder is not much use but I think a good trolling motor can really help keep the fishing productive.

not sure if you mentioned it as I had a lot of background noise while watching but deer hair is hollow therefor more drag and lift and I feel a little more action.

  • @rontruocchio5744

i bought a synthetic bucktail and i found it to not cast as far as natural hair. i think the reason is the natural hair holds the water and gives the bucktail a more streamlined shape and less air resistance while casting.
